Biography

Steven Rogers was born in 1920 in Brooklyn, New York and for all intents and purposes lived a fairly non-extraordinary first part of life. He grew up and went to school within the borough and graduated from High School, which meant something different back then. By the time he finished school, unfortunately, his parents had died. Steve was forced out into the big city on his own.

He made a life for himself working as an artist for the Works Progress Administration. FDR's public works program hired all sorts of laborers to kick-start the economy and Steve's job in particular was to re-touch paintwork throughout the city. It was not glorious work, but it was a paycheck. Steve also freelanced as an artist for comic book companies as a way to earn some extra spending money.

It wasn't a great life, but it was what he had and for the most part he was happy.

On one of his trips to the movies, Steve witnessed a life changing event. In those days, many learned of news from the war front via clips at the movie theatre. Steve was shocked to learn of the atrocities of the Nazi party and resolved to do something about it.

The next day he marched into the recruiting office in Brooklyn, ready to go and defend America and, really, humanity. Steve had always considered himself a patriot, but the treatment of the Jews by Nazi Germany pushed him towards fervor.

He was promptly denied for being of poor health and slight frame.

Two weeks later he went to the recruiting office in Queens.

He was promptly denied.

The next time he headed up to the Bronx. When he was about to be rejected a third time, he happened to come across Dr. Erskine who was recruiting volunteers for Operation: Rebirth. After an interview, Erskine grew to believe that Steve Rogers was the perfect person for his serum.

Steve underwent an extreme training regimen of mental and military tactics training. At the end of the 6 week process, Erskine began the physical portion. In a scene out of the horror books of the late 1800s, Steve was strapped into an iron contraption and injected with the super serum at various points in his body.

Unbeknownst to Erskine and the military strategists in attendance, their group had been infiltrated by a Nazi spy. Once the intruder saw that the serum worked, he assassinated Erskine and attempted to make off with the serum, only to be caught and be forced to hand over the serum.

Equipped with a specially designed shield made from steel and vibranium, Rogers was sent to the Eastern Front where he quickly earned the moniker Captain America. He led a small platoon of soldiers through death defying feats in both France and Germany, and is often credited with shifting the tide of the war against the Nazis. His good friend, James Buchanon ("Bucky") was part of the unit, and for four years the pair made defeating the enemy their daily business.

After Germany was defeated by the vice-grip of American and Soviet military might, it seemed as though Captain America's mission was over. His final mission, however, would be his most important. The Nazis had developed an experimental drone plane designed to be flown onto American shores and detonate. Both Captain America and Bucky arrived just in time to catch up to the plane as it was taking off in an attempt to prevent it from detonating. While the pair gained control of the plane, Bucky was able to disarm it. The move came at a price, however, because the plane had been booby trapped and explosions began to ring out everywhere. In the destruction, Bucky was assumed to be killed, and Captain America went down with the plane, landing somewhere above the Arctic Circle.

The Americans assumed that the missing Captain and his sidekick were both dead.

January 2014

Though details on how they came across the information are scarce, SHIELD agents flocked to the north once it was believed that not only was Captain America's body found, but that it had been preserved in ice. Using state of the art technology, SHIELD operatives 'thawed' out the Captain's body and were able to revive him.

It was nothing short of a miracle.

Overwhelmed and without an idea of what to do next with his life, Steve agreed to work for SHIELD in an attempt to make the world a safer place for Americans and for people across the world. Steve's return is not widely known in public circles yet; he's still dealing with the repercussions of being dead for 70 years. He lives quietly in Brooklyn, but makes frequent trips to Washington for briefings and when called upon, he straps on the shield to make the world a better place.

Character Details

Captain America is an inspirational leader dedicated to the ideals of democracy and protecting the world from foes who would aim to harm America or its people. He is proud of what he does and the patriotic spirit that led him to volunteer for the Army back in 1941 is still alive and well. He is straightforward and honest to a fault. People may not like what he has to say, but they know that if he says it, it's how he truly feels.

Steve also has feelings of being displaced. Having been dead for 70 years is tough to take for a person and he feels very much like a lonely fish out of water. There's also an intense amount of guilt he feels for allowing his friend Bucky to perish.
