Claim to Fame
Stealth armor wearing vigilante and hero, picking up the jobs other heroes won't do…or who aren't aware that the job even exists in the first place.
Reputation
Dragnet's existence has been more surmised conclusively proven. Raids on gang hideouts, the occasional clash with a supervillain attempting to punch at those below his weight class, and the passage of information to other superheroes have demonstrated a similar modus operandi and an almost singleminded devotion to secrecy.
Biography
Frederick Jager was never anyone special, just a kid with enough talent that he avoided outright mediocrity. Just smart enough to be considered above average, only just athletic enough to be a bench warmer on the track team, the kind of person you passed on the street and murmured a hello, but couldn't remember what he looked like later or what he might have said in return. Upon graduating high school and fulfilling his general education community college requirements, he began drifting. His family was comfortable, but they didn't have the money to send him to school. Frederick himself had no idea what to do with his life, and seemed to fear an inevitable future as an aimless youth. Here was no Lost Boy, or a kid that was a victim of the environment, but a young man with no guiding light or mentorship to push him in the direction of something greater than himself. This, coupled with the need for acceptance, and to be of value to someone, led him to do a very stupid thing.
He joined a gang.
It really was nothing special. The sort of Metropolis/middle class New York crust types that were playing at being hard to masquerade in place of their fragile egos and sense of entitlement. In perpetrating small scale robberies, breaking and entering, and petty vandalism, he had found a talent. Was he a fantastic criminal? No. That was his greatest advantage, because while his colleagues got pinched, or something went not as planned, Frederick was utterly beneath notice. He was 'that guy' or 'one of them'. Even as a low-level gangster, Frederick had perfected the art of being mundane to an art form. If things had stayed this way, he might have actually stayed a criminal….the life wasn't fantastic, but it gave the occasional thrill, and being Nobody Special worked for him for once. Unfortunately, things always change, and never stay the same.
Meanwhile, in the domain of those who were actual, full-time, very serious criminals, an organization called Intergang decided to expand its minion pool. To do this, they issued a challenge to several crews, offering membership and patronage in exchange for one little job. It was one warehouse, how hard could it be? Frederick had his misgivings, but his partners jumped at the chance, thinking this was their ticket to the big time. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. Intergang's true purposes were revealed as seven crews simultaneously came upon the warehouse, engaging with each other and an automatic defense grid which was incredibly lethal for what was supposed to be a simple job. Against his better judgement, he and his fellows continued to advance into the warehouse…only to run into the other sole surviving crew, which were actual hardened, trained professionals at This Sort of Thing. His gang was wiped out, Frederick ran like hell.
Except that in his haste, he had grabbed the nearest box he could find: in it was a suit of body armor that looked entirely too advanced to be just laying around.
His original plan was to sell it, or barring that just rid himself of the thing. Bad things happened to people who kept this stuff lying around, and already Frederick was hearing things. About bounties on his head from various sources. Hoping to keep his family out of trouble, he actually put on the body armor, made a scene, and generally went out of his way to have anyone who might take a shot at him follow him out of Metropolis. After that, he layed low, relying on his trademark ability to be forgotten to slink amongst the poorer neighborhoods of any city he stepped into. Gotham, New York, these were perfect places. Here a person, even with the tech Frederick was lugging around (And still couldn't sell), could disappear. Unfortunately for him, Frederick grew a conscience while on the lamb, and growing curiosity about what he had stolen lead him to explore, and to tinker. It was called AIDOS, an advanced personal armor designed to provide protection, dynamic camouflage, and offered a suite of weapons and tools for the needs of the user…and a great deal of moddability. Frederick, being just technical enough to know he was out of his league, decided to wait until he found someone with greater technical chops to see what the upper limits of this customization was. He decided to disable some of the heavier and outright scary looking tools, restricting it largely to a camouflage and non-lethal weaponry role. It was in one of these tests that he foiled his first mugging. Even with the AIDOS and his neophyte criminal/combat skills, it was difficult, but he managed to succeed. Then, he vanished just as quickly from the bystanders eyes….
Something else changed in him when he stopped that mugging. He felt strong. No, he WAS strong. He had knockout gas. He had concussive weaponry. He could pick locks and see in the dark and he could disappear! When Frederick wore the AIDOS, with its faceplate hiding his identity, and the options he would never have had as a normal hood, he felt brave. Taking great pains to conceal his identity, and often to try and make his work appear the beneficence of a more famous and more capable vigilante. Sometimes he tried to help out with bigger threats, but for now he prowls the streets, trying to avoid too much attention and helping where he can. The few people who actually care about such things have labeled him Dragnet. His increasing reputation is a concern, but he can't stop. For once he was doing something good for other people, and the AIDOS picked up where his own lack of supernal training or natural abilities lacked. Being a vigilante was hard, but it was the first thing he felt…good at. It felt nice.

Character Details
The vigilante and the young man within are two different people. Dragnet is cautious and methodical, but tries to help where he can. There is however a strong limitation to these heroic impulses: an almost fanatical impulse towards privacy and secrecy. Because underneath that armor, Frederick is meek and unassuming, a borderline coward who is extremely aware of his limitations. He relies upon the armor not only as a means of protection, but as validation and armor for his sense of self.
Larceny |
Pickpocketing, grand theft auto, breaking and entering. Frederick is not a master criminal by any means, but he does have a few years of experience under his belt. |
Forgettable |
Its not a mutant power or a metaphysical talent, its just the way Frederick is. Outside of his armor, he blends into crowds seamlessly, and is often dismissed from memory after all but the most in depth encounters, or for those with particularly strong memory skills. It has allowed him to preserve his identity and slip from place to place with relative ease. |
Resource Gathering |
Temporary employment, emergency rooms that don't ask questions, salvage, Frederick has become a master of finding things off the grid. Note that this is environment specific and requires time and effort corresponding to the size of the area he is working in. |
Technical Skills |
Frederick is not Tony Stark. However, spending two years with a supersuit does force you to learn a few things. Frederick now has a solid (if not intuitive) grasp of computer science, mechanical engineering, chemistry, and metallurgy. |
Modular Design |
The AIDOS is surprisingly easy to modify for all of its sophistication, allowing new hardware and software to be installed, and for replacements to be crafted. While this does not increase the speed or the resource demands of new or replacement additions, it does reduce the likelihood of rejection and the time taken for the suit to compensate. |
Fabricator |
Within the chestplate of the AIDOS lies what is arguably most important component aside from its reactor. The fabricator is a colony of nanorobots that are able to break down and convert materials at the atomic level into ammunition, affect armor repair, and produce single use items such as medical supplies. Some limitations do exist however: It cannot convert inorganic matter into organic matter or vice versa, it requires time for material conversion and creation, and it can only perform one task at a time. It can produce utility items, ammunition, or repair/create new armor, but not all three at once. NOTE: Primarily used between scenes or as scene prep. |
AIDOS Stealth Technology |
The AIDOS employs dynamic camouflage, along with auditory dampening technology and temperature matching technology make the AIDOS exceedingly difficult to detect. However, it is highly energy intensive and when weapons systems are engaged, power is rerouted, reducing its effectiveness to standard camouflage. Furthermore, the systems effectiveness gradually diminishes over longer periods of time (thirty minutes), as the suit does begin to heat up and its power usage becomes more readily detectible, and deactivates after three hours of continuous use. If no further use of suit weaponry takes place and was the reason for the break in cloaking, the cloak will begin to restore itself after five minutes. If utilized until break of cloak, it requires an hour to recharge. |
Body Armor |
AIDOS employs a multilayered but lightweight composite 'smart' alloy that Frederick has dubbed 'nanokevlar'. Able to absorb most calibers of small arms fire, it is also capable of limited regeneration and able to reinforce breaches with layers from other segments of the suit if it is possible and sufficient resources are present. |
Sensor/Communications Suite |
The AIDOS provides enhanced sensory and extrasensory output to its wearer. It can dampen ambient noise, enhances hearing by a factor of ten, and allows a zoom of up to x100. Furthermore, it provides the user with infrared, ultraviolet, and radio perception, as well as advanced tactile sensory data. The AIDOS also by default encrypts all outgoing data and transmissions. |
Physical Amplification |
Wearing the suit increases Frederick's strength and agility by maximum human (Captain America) levels by amplification of output, while simultaneously increasing the hand-eye coordination and stamina of the user. However, in times of emergency or extreme effort this output can be further increased by means of stimulants injected into the bloodstream. Although the cocktail is designed to become inert fairly quickly, but a combination of limited reservoirs and built in safeguards against overdose prevent use of this system to a handful of uses per day. |
Combat Software |
The AIDOS's combat and scenario modeling software deserves special mention for its skill package. Though Frederick himself is only the most average (borderline mediocre) combatant, the suit has been able to compensate via its ability do 'download' itself into his muscle memory while it is worn, allowing him to react as if he has several years of training in close quarters combat, marksmanship, and tactical assessment. |
High Impact Explosive Mass Driver System |
The AIDOS employs a miniaturized mass driver cannon as a retractable shoulder mount. The cannon fires high density tungsten rounds built around a micro-reactor. These rounds are armor piercing, and the energy contained withing will either explode upon penetration or when it has exceeded a preprogrammed distance from its initial target, delivering the explosive power found in contemporary shoulder fired missiles. Magazine Size: 6 rounds |
Knockout Gas Cartridges |
Each of the suits gauntlets houses a small launcher that fires a cartridge filled with a cocktail designed to incapacitate the average human in a matter of moments, depending on how fast they breathe it in and how large the area in question. Metahumans or mutants with a resistance (But not immunity) to toxins or drugs will find their reaction times amd alertness diminished, but can often quickly recover. These cartridges can be fired in grenade-like fashion or dispensed directly from the gauntlet in a matter similar to mace or pepper spray. Magazine Size: 8 cartridges |
Shock System |
Operating on a similar principle as taser, the shock system of the AIDOS is installed into the forearms. Microfilament wires can be fired up to fifty feet and administer a shock designed to incapacitate biological targets. A more powerful shock can be administered through physical contact with the shock system outlet. Magazine Size: 4 cartridges or 2 charges |
Dazzler |
The AIDOS is equipped with a pair of tuneable laser dazzlers that are able to reach a maximum of 2500 meters. It is able to not only induce temporary blindness, but can ablso overcome electronic countermeasures or surveillance systems. Systems can be specifically designed to be shielded against the full range of wavelengths of the dazzler's diodes. |
Disproportionate Rogues Gallery |
For someone who has little problem avoiding notice and an armor that is built around stealth and misdirection of the senses, the Dragnet persona seems to attract more than its share of attention. Those who created the armor have not acted overtly, but they are no doubt looking for their stolen technology. Both HYDRA and Advanced Idea Mechanics are interested in the micro fabrication and stealth technologies, and the New York and Gotham underworld do not particularly care for young upstarts with such an ability to move undetected. It will be a race to see whether Frederick can continue to improve his skills and equipment and master the armor before he attracts still more enemies with extensive resources. |
Nomad |
Frederick is a professional vagrant. He has destroyed most of his identification, never sleeps in the same place twice if he can manage it, and is more likely to get his parts via junkyard scrounging than from organizations or companies more suited to catering to the needs of the technology he wields. While he is not destitute and lives fairly comfortably for someone with no permanent address, basic essentials are still the primary focus of his existence, and acts of heroism must be weighed against survival needs. |
Electromagnetic Vulnerability |
Although the AIDOS does possess some inborn countermeasures, the high level of sophistication of its systems means that disruptions that do occur can disable some or all of its systems. Electromagnetic pulses of sufficient power can shut down the AIDOS entirely and force a hard restart, which can take several minutes to half an hour. |
Biofeedback and Dependency |
Frederick does not know it, but one of the reasons for his performance gains in a comparatively short amount of time is that the suit is 'attuning' to him. While this has compensated for much of his shortcomings, the risks are tangible. Unrepaired damage to the suit can manifest in phantom pain, long periods of time without AIDOS use can lead to periods of depression and manic episodes. |
Limited Resources |
The AIDOS's ability to produce equipment, ammunition, and reorient its armor is limited by time and raw materials. There are no clips to swap in: when a weapon runs out of its designated ammunition for an encounter, its out. Repeated or longer missions mean that Frederick must be exceedingly careful about resource consumption and ammunition expenditure. |
Too Human |
Without the suit, Dragnet is just a guy. An ordinary guy with a few skills and tricks, but normal all the same. |
It isn't All In the Manual |
The AIDOS had no manual, no documentation, no primer on its use or the full utility of its features. The suit still throws Frederick curveballs, and while the occasional new feature or discovery could be welcome, it tends to be less so in high stress situations. |
Meek |
Frederick would like to be a good man. Perhaps not a shining hero in the traditional sense, but he would like to think that he would be able to stand up and be counted and do the right thing. Unfortunately, he is also rather meek and a borderline coward. The AIDOS is not only his tool for fighting crime/evil, it is also a profound psychological crutch. |
