Claim to Fame

Magma is one of the younger class of mutants, and despite having a powerful mutation, tends to fly under the radar.

Reputation

Amara has a reputation as a somewhat quiet and standoffish member of the X-Men. She's there when she's needed, and is fairly good as a leader on the technical end of things, but tends to fall short on the inspirational side. Like most of her age group, she's fiercely protective of her "class," and can always be counted on if someone is in trouble.

Biography

Amara was born in the lost nation of Nova Roma, a city of ancient Romans hidden deep in the Amazon rain forests of Brazil. Her mother died when she was a child, sacrificed in one of the ancient mutant and psychic vampire Selene's rituals to maintain her youth. Her father was First Senator, which meant that until she reached her teens, her life was quite comfortable. At the age of fifteen, to save her from Selene, her father sent her to live with many of the other young woman of Nova Roma and the Amazon Indians outside the valley where the city was hidden. When some of Xavier's mutants ran into her and others in the jungle, they were captured by Nova Roman legionnaires and returned to the city, where Selene attempted to sacrifice Amara to fuel her powers.

Instead, when Amara was cast into the heart of the volcano, it activated her own powers. She returned to New York and Xavier's with the other mutants, there to begin training to understand and control her powers, as well as to learn the ways of the rest of the world. Until she was eighteen, she trained and studied. At eighteen, she enrolled in college at NYU, studying for a degree in political science while continuing to help with the X-Men as she could.

Now, about to graduate, it's time she start to think about what comes next…

Character Details

Though Amara is outwardly composed and in control, she's privately a very passionate person. She's very aware of appearances and perception, which can make her come off as shy or standoffish. In reality, she was simply raised to believe that how one comported oneself was not only important, but reflected on one's family, history, and future. She takes her responsibilities very seriously. She's intently curious about the rest of the world, given her sheltered youth, but at the same time she can sometimes be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of sensory input to be found in the modern world.

Relationships

Image Name Relation Information
nopic-m.png Doug Ramsey Friend Doug is one of the young mutants who attended Xavier's at the same time as Amara, and a long-time teammate. Despite a few…questionable interactions in the past (not really Doug's fault), they've made amends. He's one of the few people Amara feels genuinely comfortable around, and who gets to see what she's like when she's not trying to make a good impression.
nopic-f.png Illyana Rasputin Friend Another of Amara's early friends and teammates. Amara didn't used to trust Illyana entirely, but after a few missions and close calls, she came to accept the girl at a teammate, and with that comes absolute trust and loyalty. She may still be wary about some of the things Illyana can do, but after spending a few years as roommates at NYU, she's less nervous about them. So long as there's a sock left on the door before any big spells go on, because really, who wants to walk in on that?
nopic-f.png Nancy O'Neal Friend A new student/visitor at Xavier's, and one of the first Amara's met since coming back after graduation to decide what to do with her life. She may be unsure of Nancy's loyalties, but she's even more certain that the Institute is the best place for her.
