Reputation
Nicodemo the boy was an earnest, eager to please young man who loved his family with all of his heart despite his confused and broken nature. He was full of adoration and naivety.
That all changed as he grew in to his skin, his potential, his power and his fate.
Master Darque is a nihilistic, cold, calculating, determined monster who knows no emotions but those of hate, envy, rage and desire. He craves only absolute power and ascension. Nothing and no one will stand in his path not even his own humanity.
Biography
Nicodemo and his sister Sandria were born and raised in the early 19th century. Their mother died in child birth leaving the twins in the custody of their father who trained them in the dark arts and raised them on his plantation in Louisiana.
Their father was an insanely driven man obsessed with discovering the lost heavenly dimensional city of Lyceum. He turned his own children in to conduits of magical energy using the forbidden Grand Veves as tattoo markings in to their flesh, an act that furthered their already considerable powers.
On their Eighteenth birthday the father decided his children were strong enough and initiated the ritual to open the gateways to Lyceum. During his he tried to sacrifice Sandria and then Nicodemo, the young man lashed out at his father but found himself too weak, as his father was a master of the occult and far more experienced, Sandria's plight spurred Nicodemo on and he used his natural gift, a gift that allowed him power over death-energy. Slaying the plant life, animals and slaves within the vicinity he bolstered his sorcery and was able to defeat his father then using what essence remained he healed his sister.
After this the children destroyed the plantation, the only place they knew and walked in to the world. Sandria despite being saved by her brother grew that much more fearful of him, he possessed a dark and destructive power that terrified her…
This act did not go without notice and a powerful New Orleans mystic was drawn to the threat that is Nicodemo and with her coven, the precursors to the Abettors they sought out knowledge of the young man and began to take measures in which to contain the sorcerer should he stray.
Nicodemo a boy no longer and now a man was obsessed as their father with the mystical world. He sought out those who know more than he did and met Anton Quigly, a man who at the time was host to enough power and experience to impress Nicodemo. Nicodemo was eager and willing an apprentice under the agreement that Nico give him his sister, Sandria. Sandria soon turned on her brother's mentor and in response he killed her, Nicodemo in turn killed him and restored Sandria's life. This is the second time he was forced to save his sister's life.
Traveling once more in an attempt to gain supernatural rapport with the world Nicodemo took on many tutors and underwent many ventures in the discovery of the arts, their gifts and his considerable knowledge allowing them to always turn a profit and survive the trials placed upon them. His sister watched Nico's growing occult understanding and his continued loss of humanity, her fear culminated and she ran from him, escaped in to the world for years until he was able to track her down.
Sandria had watched Nico's growth in power at the cost of his loss in humanity and her fear culminated and she fled, alone for her first time she became a nomadic healer who worked tirelessly to help others until she met a man she fell in love with and soon had a child to. This child was born with issues, dying at birth and things only grew worse as she sensed her brother near. Nicodemo attacked Sandria's lover and she was forced to make the greatest sacrifice, her own child's very soul. She infused the infant's lifeforce in to the baby's father and created a weapon against her brother, a man who now called himself Master Darque.
Darque apparently won despite this and used his powers to once again try to revive his dying sister but failed. Or at least so he believed. Leaving her for dead he departed and found himself no longer tethered to the world of man. His studies sent him abroad, his search for power continued and he forged himself a dark empire. A collective motley of despicable and power made who would do his biding…
Unknown to Darque his sister survived thanks to the Abettor's leader Anjenetta Grampion who was able to cloak the girl's existence from her brother, even despite their mystical link. The Abettors had yet another weapon to use against the threat of Master Darque.

Character Details
Nicodemo the boy was an earnest, eager to please young man who loved his family with all of his heart despite his confused and broken nature. He was full of adoration and naivety.
That all changed as he grew in to his skin, his potential, his power and his fate.
Master Darque is a nihilistic, cold, calculating, determined monster who knows no emotions but those of hate, envy, rage and desire. He craves only absolute power and ascension. Nothing and no one will stand in his path not even his own humanity.
Arcane Arts |
As a homo-magi Nicodemo is naturally gifted in the Dark Arts. His application of the universal magics is testament to his advanced abilities, his first spells without tutelage were levitation, death-energy manipulation and pyrokinetics. Through the advancement of time he has expanded on these powers to and is capable of amazing feats with psychokinesis, fire magics and of course necromancy (*see Master Necromancer). His vast array talents do not stop there.
His gifts extend in to mental-ism (especially persuasion and domination), conjurations, evocations, prestidigitation, summonings, diabolism, tattoo magics, runes and a plethora of other spheres.
Limitation(s): Benchmark of (1-11). With the exception of flight, lesser mental-ism, pyrokinesis and necromantic abilities all of Darque's spellcasting requires verbal and physical activation. The previous list only requires physical action and/or gesture. |
Darkforce Manipulator |
Through mystical domination Master Darque has learned to manifest and wield the extra-dimensional energy known as the Darkforce. This black opaque substance can be used as a form of teleportation, shadow-molding and limited materialization for the creation of constructs, armor, weapons and similar.
Limitation(s): Benchmark (1-9). (*see Darkforce Pit advantage) |
Master Necromancer |
Master Darque has yet to meet his equal in the vocation of Necromancy. His natural and almost limitless potential in the field is uncanny and terrifying. He has shown the ability to not only summon entire armies of undead but also mutate them in to more powerful creatures, extend the lifeforce of others, sense the living and dead, divination, spiritual commune, conjure and manipulate ectoplasm, absorb, redirect and use the spiritual essence of others in to various uses (like healing, regeneration or empowerment), control dead matter, accelerate aging, induce death, induce pain or rot in the living (or unliving) and of course reanimate or even resurrect the deceased.
Limitation(s): Benchmark (1-14). Consent or permission where required. The more powerful necromantic uses demand a lot of energy consumption and much of Darque's powers are not usable on other PCs or important NPCs. |
Sage Of The Occult |
Obsession and a sharp intellect has driven Nicodemo to excel in the academic portion of the occult. His knowledge is expansive and covers a vast area of fields from alchemy, augury, divination, ceremonial magic, astronomy, astrology, cultural studies, Voodoo, Zen, theology, theurgy, rituals, diabolism, psychology, holistic medicine, philosophy, mathematics, physics, history, mythology, religion and so on. The man is a polymath when it comes to all things Arcane and even many of the associated studies.
Limitation (s): Benchmark (3-6). |
Supernatural Being |
Mystical augmentation, enchantments, Veves and death-energy empowerment have altered Master Darque's physical body to levels beyond human. He can lift just over a ton and endure punishments that would kill normal men, is effectively immortal (as far as lifespan), is resilient to extreme conditions and heals at an accelerated rate (though he does not regenerate). He also possesses sharp stronger than bone claws at the end of each finger that can be used as weapons in close enough proximity.
By means of the Veves, insanity, occult study and psychic conditioning Nicodemo's willpower is unbending and absolute.
Limitation(s): Benchmark (7: Strength, 6: Durability/Healing/Resilience, 7: Mental Fortitude) |
Brethren & Minions |
*The Brethren
A human collective of wealthy elite who all serve Master Darque. The five heads of the Brethren are Gloria Vega (Shipbuilding), Leland Paige (Politics), Gregoire Rosso (Commercial Fishing) Martin Swain (Petrochemicals) and Thomas Sabatine (Oil Refining) these individuals speak to Master Darque through Lionel Devereaux. The Brethren are the driving resource portion of Master Darque's expanding empire.
Underneath the heads (not in a ranked structure) there are Brethren agents just like Lionel Deveraux with their own special tasks, members such as Mademoiselle Noir, Mr.Twist, Hook, Welt, Vise, Nitro, Bolo and an assorted number of others.
*Dead Runners
The Dead Runners are Master Darque's fanatical cultists. They are men and women who believe the Darque Lord is a god and each is willing to sacrifice themselves to him at any given moment. Every one of them receives his personal Veve (the Darque Veve) and at any point in time whilst anywhere on the same dimensional plane be snuffed out and have their essence transferred to their master. Dead Runners are little more than expendable living batteries to Nicodemo. Most he deems unfit to be Brethren become Dead Runners.
*The Eaters
Special crafted Darkforce-dead energy zombies infused with starved souls. These abominations are black chitinous armor plated monstrosities covered in spines, blades, claws and jagged sharp teeth. They are strong enough to peel off flesh, snap bone, rend metal and withstand even gunfire. They are not without limitless numbers as each is handforged by the Darque Lord himself. |
Darkforce Pit |
Located in Metropolis the corpse of a 'God-like' creature from the Darkforce dimension created a black pool of almost endless Darkforce energy that has proven to be an outstanding boon for Master Darque. It is here upon the bones of the beast he has created his sanctum. |
Geomancer |
Master Darque has learned to 'speak to the Earth' much like a Geomancer is capable of doing. This unnatural rapport is a stolen gift and bound to him by one of his many Veve markings. |
Homo Magi |
The gift of magic comes from the blood. Nicodemo is one of the fabled lost race of sorcerers - the line of the Darque unfortunately was lost with their father. They are the last of their kin. |
Resources & Wealth |
Power. Material possessions and wealth are symbol's of power. Master Darque has a considerable fortune of his own and runs several powerful companies through his Brethen. Money is no issue. |
Veves |
Nicodemo's body is covered from head-to-toe in tattoos dubbed 'the Book of Darque'. Forbidden markings that have been ritualistically engraved in to his flesh. The first and most powerful were gifts from his father Nicodemo has steadily added more. These arcane sigils serve various purposes from augmenting his spellcasting to increasing his physical capabilities. Each is bound with their own specific Astral entity or spirit.
The Veves on his body glow and dim with the states of his power. When he is strongest or casting they emit light, when weakened they become normal looking tattoos. |
Albino |
Nicodemo's skin his white. White as snow and he is as bald as a vulture. Very bright lights are distracting, disorienting and can even be painful. Physical contact is even uncomfortable and this condition cannot really be hidden. |
Blighted |
Master Darque is a tainted individual who exudes a constant aura of negative life energy. Plant-life tends to die around him as do small animals, those who are ailing can become even sicker and the wounded find themselves slowed in their recovery. |
Boogeyman |
Master Darque is a killer, a sadist, a vampire, a monster and a horror story. In Louisiana he has attained the status of Voodoo monster and in hushed whispers his name is spoken. On a superstitious level he is a devil or a death god on a legal level he could very easily become a wanted man in connection with countless atrocities. |
Death Energy |
Necromancy is highly expensive in it's use. It requires great demand and that sacrifice is it's opposite, life. Life is a valuable commodity even a sociopathic madman like Nicodemo knows this. |
Enemies |
Over his lifetime Darque has made more adversaries than he can count. He has killed more people than he can remember and he has brought upon himself the attention of some very powerful groups of people, for example, the Abettors are a coven formed specifically to battle him. They're a continual thorn in his side. |
Obsession - Power |
Anything for power. Anything. Even sacrificing his own siblings, children, loved ones. He believes god is a failure and man is meant to ascend and challenge the deity. New power is more power, no matter the source, Nicodemo "Master Darque" is always on the path of evolution no matter the cost. It is his singular drive. |
One Eye |
Master Darque is missing his right eye. He can rely on his supernatural gifts to be aware of his surroundings but having a singular visual piece is limiting in the obvious avenues. He will never be a sniper. |
Twin Sister |
The only person in all of reality that Nicodemo ever loved, his sister Sandria Darque, his greatest betrayer. She died as far as he knows. She is not deceased just masterfully cloaked and as long as she lives unknown to him he will always remain vulnerable and tethered. She denies the Necromantic ways and cares only about healing and doing good. The exact opposite of him. The Abettors hide her and she aids them in their battle against Master Darque. |
