Claim to Fame
One of the original members of the X-Men team. That's the only thing she wants to be famous for.
Reputation
Jean has the reputation as a typical do-gooder, rule abiding and mothering types for most. She goes above and beyond for friends and family, even risking life and cheating death to do so.
Biography
Short and skinny cliff notes, Jean, at a young age, witnessed the death of her best friend. Trying to pull her friend back from the brink, Jean caught the eye of the Phoenix force, who in turn saved her life. Being catantonic for two weeks after her powers manifested at such a young age, Professor Xavier managed to place mental blocks upon her and brought her to his school of higher learning. She was an ace student, through studies and trainings, she became one of the original members of the X-Men.
Through various trials and tribulations, and being possessed by the Phoenix Force and 'dying twice', she continued to live her life as best as she could, returning to school to earn her Bachelors and Masters in her chosen field. She took a sabbatical to France after graduation and a bit of work, returning to her place amongst the X-Men this time as a School Counselor.

Character Details
She's calm, kind, generous to a fault. She's lived both sides of the track, so she understands each and every view point and remains a logical, focal point when needed. She's sweet, as well, but is also like a ferocious being when her loved ones are threatened. At times she could seem reserved, aloof, a bit lost even. But she's also studious, and lover of all things educational.
Telepathy |
When Jean's powers prematurely manifested, she joined with her best childhood friend upon her death and merged consciouses with her. This caused Professor X to block her telepathy until she was at an age where it would grow naturally and be easily controlled. Being an omega level mutant, she's able to use her telepathy in varying ways. She can read the minds and communicate with animals, manipulate and control thoughts as well as physical functions of others, enter into the minds of others, communicate telepathically with others, create illusions, penetrate and create psychic shields to protect or harm others.
She can also create psychic blocks within anothers mind. For instance, if someone suffers a traumatic event that they can't possibly get over without the help of a therapist/psychologist or any other means, she's able to block it out and make it seem as if it never happened.
When it also comes to manipulating anothers mind, she can cloak a large amount of people to make them go unseen to the naked eye. Even though she can hide a mass amount, the real trouble starts with how many minds she can collectively deceive. |
Astral Projection |
Jean can astral project herself into the astral plane or as a means of travel on the physical one. She can still communicate with others while in this form, as her willpower alone allows it. Since this skill is apart of her telepathy yet considered a stand alone, she's able to use that gift while incorporeal. |
Psionic Blasts |
Jean can project and fire psionic blasts that can damage the psyche of her opponent. The only draw back is, that it isn't physical, and the level of power she uses is dependant on the person or foe she's fighting. If she mis-guesses, the person could recover easily. But if she puts her all into it, there is a chance that she may actually commmit the act of murder. |
Flight |
Jean is able to fly through sheer telekinesis, manipulating nature and the forces around her to gain heights unimaginable. It's only when she's left without a way to fly, say, stuck in a room or cage or box, enclosed spaces with limited amount of sources surrounding her is when she'll be grounded. |
Psychic Pyrokinesis |
Being bonded with the Phoenix, (in which she is no longer), allowed her to gain the ability to manifest psychic fire. This fire often surrounds her in the form of a phoenix or phoenix raptor, influenced by her time possessed or 'inhabited'. This fire surrounds her like a shield and protects her when she calls upon it, and is able to physically damage a foe with it's claws or beak, slap of the wing, etc. The psychic fire will possibly at times never manifest, unless she's truly angered or in serious danger. |
Telekinesis |
There are varying ways that Jean can use her telekenesis. She can bind objects to keep them from moving, she can levitate herself and at least three other people up to 50 tons, she can manuever objects and set a path, and also go so far as to choke a person, total Darth Vader style. She can pull, she can push, she can manipulate others movements (WITH PLAYER CONSENT), she can create a telekinetic blast that can physically injure a person or damage an object, as well as crush. She can also use weapons without touching them through telekinesis, and more importantly, create telekinetic shields which block and protect herself and others from harm. |
Empathy |
Her empathy is possibly the reason as to why the Phoenix was drawn to Jean in the first place. Jean can empathically control, manipulate and alter the feelings, sensations, and emotions of others. (PLAYER CONSENT REQUIRED.) |
Masters In Psychology |
Jean is a college graduate from Metro College, receiving her Associates degree in Psychology. Over the years, she's managed to return to school, attending to Columbia and receiving her Bachelors and Masters degree in the same field. With her education, she's able to help people and students alike in their daily lives, without relying on her powers to do so. She could also, using her book smarts, turn the tide of a conversation or battle by quickly studying an opponent by using manipulation tactics, although she's never had to resort to it. |
Unarmed Combat |
Being trained through cobmat during her time at Xavier's, Jean is a proficient, unarmed fighter. She can hold her own in situations that call for using hand to hand combat, and while not being the best, she can use her powers of telepathy and telekinesis to enhance her strength and skills. |
Xavier's Institute |
Being a teacher for her, paid the bills. But it also was her lifes work. When you do what you absolutely love for work, it all makes life worth living. She's elevated herself from the ranks of teaching to become the schools counselor, using her degree, natural skills of empathy, and lifes experience in helping students, new and old adjust to life and things that may affect them. |
X-men |
This one goes without saying. Being part of the X-Men has its great advantages. They're family and friends, sometimes under one roof and sometimes not. Either way, she knows she has a friend in all who align themselves with the rag-tag crew of misfits and loves them all to bits. |
Eidetic Memory |
Due to her being a telepath, her eidetic memory developed over time. She can recall precise dates, conversations, faces, anything that's commited to memory or something that has happened in the background she can recall. Except when she killed all those people. She tries to forget that. |
Once A Teacher |
Jean's able to slide back into teaching with ease. Even though she's currently serving as counsel to the students, assisting with grades and school placement, she's able to take over as a Substitute Teacher in most subjects in variety. And yes. That includes combat. |
Control |
While her extreme amount of control could be an advantage, it's mainly a disadvantage for her because she always, and usually has no choice but to maintain it. Imagine if you will, that you're in an arena full of screaming fans. A match is being played out before your eyes and those hundreds of thousands manage to filter into your head all at the same time. It hurts, its disorienting, and it could kill if you let it. This is why her control is a disadvantage. For there are times she wishes her mind could wander, to daydream freely like anyone else. To dream awake, to imagine, to let your mind soar.. she cannot. And often times, it gets her down. |
Nightmares |
Having the Phoenix possess a person could be magnificent, and times, not. There were things that she has done, things that she possibly wouldn't say aloud that keeps her awake at night. She has nightmares occasionally, often times waking up in a cold sweat, or not sleeping at all because she could feel those memories nipping at the surface. Sometimes, she could block it out. But even on good days, it's hard. |
Insomnia |
Another side effect to her nightmares, Jean suffers from insomnia. When this happens, she keeps herself busy. Studying, reading, cleaning, probably making breakfast for all of the children in attendance at Xavier's. Either or, she can't sleep at times and it greatly affects her the day after. |
Billion Times A Murderer |
You don't get possessed by the Dark Phoenix and not kill. Unfortunately for Jean, she murdered an entire solar system. Or.. was it her? While her memories of the event are in tact, and she loses a lot of sleep over it, there are times where she makes herself believe that it truly wasn't her. Either way, she's hunted. And one day, someone will come to collect. |
The Hunger |
Another thing that she sometimes tries to walk away from. She knows what true and cosmic power feels like. She knows the emptiness, the need for more and more power, the hunger that builds and grips you tight, that raises a person from perdition. It's almost like heroine, that feeling. And there are times she remembers the taste of it so vividly that she has to hole herself up somewhere tight, and obsessively busy herself to forget. |
The Phoenix's Host |
The Phoenix Force is one of the oldest known cosmic entities that represents life that hasn't been born into existence. It's immortal, indestructible, and is a child of the universe. The Phoenix has the power to cut and regrow parts of the universe, or burn away what does or does not work.
Jean Grey's mind can transcend the physical realm and resonate with the Phoenix's energy. This is why she will forever and always be a potential host as long as she lives. Or doesn't. Being a host to the phoenix, no matter how powerful she becomes, will always be a drawback. Her human emotions always effect the cosmic entity, which often times turn her dark. And while she's not currently connected to the Phoenix Force, Jean will always be prone and drawn to its possession, manipulations, and it's pull. |
Family |
Family. There's nothing left. She had a sister, a brother in law, their children. A mother. A father. All gone. There is a pain in knowing that hurts worse than any other, knowing that you're the only one left. She feels this deeply. Perhaps it comes with the nightmares that she feels. But, the people who knew her, who truly knew her before everything went wrong are gone. And this kills her. |
