the Partisan and the Seraph

July 11, 2014: To save the victims of the N-project from Hydra, the Partisan must recruit someone who won't kill.

Upper Manhattan - New York City

Not known for its tourist trade, Upper Manhattan is generally considered to start at the base of Central Park, along 59th Street, though you're just as likely to hear New Yorkers tell you to look north of 96th Street. It's one of the most affluent areas in the U.S., a center of business and commerce and upscale residences ranging from the mansions of the Upper East Side to the high-end condos and luxury high rises of the Upper West Side. While its most northerly neighborhoods may not quite rival the two sweeping swathes of ritz and power that flank the great park, even traditionally poor Harlem has seen considerable gentrification over the past two or three decades.

Running With The Devil

Buildings under construction are excellent places for illicit meetings, especially when you're meeting strangers. Plenty of exit points if you're not afraid of heights, right? So on the 33rd floor we find the Partisan, standing amongst bundles of re-bar and various construction stock left discarded on this thus-far un-windowed office building. She's actually kept her carbine slung for the moment, as she leans up against a partially finished beam.

Below the city is slowly putting on her diamonds, as the afternoon sun rapidly settles below the horizon. There's more than a bit of a breeze, but well there's a proper thunderstorm potentially rolling in this evening so all thing's considered it's quite fine weather really.

The sound of sandals brushing — leather sandals? Who wears leather sandals in buildings-under-construction anyway? — is followed by a slight sound of movement, and a cough. A slight fuzz of light dissolves to reveal the Seraph. Angelo is not dressed like a doctor; he's wearing some kind of Greek kilt thing and leather sandals and carrying a big stick, and that's it. The tattoos are much more visible, gold with its own inner fire, traced over his body in a sort of magical alternative to the strange cyber-tracing that Aspect carries.

"You wanted to meet with me?" the alleged not-angel says.

Partisan peers at Angelo, and well no joke it's a little rough to figure out what the fuck she's thinking with that gas mask on.

"You wanted to help liberate test subjects, well time to put your money where your mouth is. It'll be hazardous, you'll need to stick to the plan and whatever happens you keep your mouth fucking shut. These people have to vanish, we already have a plan to expose their crimes in public. So yes, there are conditions. Are you game?"

"Wow. You really do like to be in charge. I'll tell you what, wolf. I'll listen to your plan, and I'll tell you if I find any holes in it, and I will cooperate until the second we encounter the enemy and it all falls to shit, and then, I'll do what I can to keep it from falling to hell. If you can live with that, I'll be OK."

The voice isn't quite the same as the doctor's earlier - it's a little hollow and a lot less human-sounding.

"I've been at this, for a very long time. I'm a career soldier, as is my associate and you're being asked exclusively for your healing capabilities. We expect many of the test subjects may be in a, delicate medical state. Moving them may cause undesired complications, which could result in their death. I need a nurse maid, not a fucking Monday morning quarterback. If your ego is going to get in the way of the professional soldiers, doing professional soldiering then you can feel free to leave right now."

Part just shrugs right there. Sure, being at war for a hundred years tends to make you think your an expert.

"You can do good work and stick to the plan, or you can walk right now."

"Yeah, yeah, I've heard this before. You sound just like SHIELD. I'm not challenging your creds as a soldier. I am challenging your approach to this situation, but not very hard, because I happen to agree with it. This is a dangerous situation. I am NOT going to get in your way, but frankly, if someone there is innocent, you may not be able to tell, but I will. And I will tell you when that's the case. I don't have to like the fatalities, and I won't cause any if I can avoid it, but I do want to get those people out, alive and well. If I didn't I wouldn't have bothered coming here, I'd be talking to someone else."

He looks her straight in the eye with those portals-to-light that serve him for eyes of his own.

"The Hydra foot soldiers are largely brainwashed, but most of them agreed to it. The higher-ups are more corrupt, and they generally chose it. So any misery you have planned for them, they've brought on themselves."

"There are between fifteen and thirty test subjects, and Hydra will go to extraordinary lengths both to safeguard from us taking them and to ensure that they get them back. We are too few, too poorly armed, and too poorly equipped to accomplish this task cleanly and efficiently. What we do have is a degree of surprise, but primarily we have the capacity to inflict more violence on a shorter timescale than they do no matter the differences in manpower. It will be profoundly bloody, violent and a fast. Innocents will be wounded, if not by us then certainly by Hydra. I just need someone to give those poor fucks, a fighting chance at living free."

Lifting a hand, the Partisan unclips her helmet and rolls off that helmet to reveal… Well she's beautiful, a red head and looks fairly serious.

"Now, as for the plan?"

Ange gives a bit of a frown. The eye of Ra on his chest begins glowing, and then fades, and he shrugs, and says, "I'm listening."

Partisan dips her head into a cigarette with a pleased little sigh.

"They're holed up in an old hospital. We have two helicopters, and a bus. From the air, we will assault the building floor by floor leaving patients in place. You and potentially one other, will be tasked with making them ready for transport. After we clear an escape route out the ground floor, we load those who can move under their own power onto the bus. When this phase is complete, we load the helicopters hopefully not to capacity. Priority patients, go on the birds. They will fly a race pattern to a secured landing sight, then one bird will return to the air to cover the bus at range. From there, we have arrangements to see to their care."

"Who's the potential other? What can they bring to the game? I can add some magic to screen the escape from Hydra, if you want it. I can tell you up front, though, there'll be at least two who need to be wheeled out, based on what I got from Bob," the Seraph says.

"Which is why we have large birds with flat floors. The other is, well I don't want to go into detail until I know where they stand. They've not gone, public with what they do yet and they're young. I don't want to put out something, that could eventually get back to them. You'll know before we go though, and you wouldn't have a problem working with them. So lets park that there, for the sake of their privacy at least temporarily alright? They still have to decide what they want to do with their power, but I suspect this will be a life altering event for them."

Partisan puffs casually at her cigarette with a shrug, "We'll call you when we have a date, get everyone together and go over the plan in detail. We'll stay overnight maybe two at most, to keep gossip under control. Then we do this."

"Sure. But I hope they've got something that'll work well for evacuation transport. If I'm busy healing, I can't herd. And my shields are limited, so we'll need backup for the guys who come from behind," Ange says.

"Also, I can pretty much heal anything short of death, but only so much in a short time before I have to wait a couple hours to recharge, so you know my limits. Expect three, maybe four serious heals, and every one of them is going to have drugs in their system that I'll have to purge, and maybe a few trigger-able suicide traps."

"You will either be healing or moving, we'll compartmentalize movement when we sit down and go into depth. Battle space management is something I've done for a very long time, so have some faith that we'll have a workable timeline and contingencies in place when we go. If necessary, we can evac with short helicopter ferries until the bus is full. Once I'm done here, I'm going to go start mapping out alternate landing locations nearby, and along the planned route just in case."

Finally flicking that cigarette aside, Partisan folds her arms casually over her chest.

"Anything else?"

"Yeah. You just changed hosts? And that's a freaking weird question to ask, so I apologize if it's rude, but then, I didn't really expect you to be not human, when Aspect first told me about you," Ange says.

Partisan shrugs.

"Something like that, it's complicated and it's sad and it's terribly tragic and this is very far from the time or place to go into it. Suffice to say, you won't be healing me and I won't need backup no matter what they've got in there. Forty on one is pretty typical sorts of odds for me, and I take damage pretty well."

"I already knew I couldn't heal you. Might be able to give you a boost if you get too drained, though," the Seraph says, speculatively. Then his voice changes again, becoming hollow and a bit spooky.

"Don't worry about the assassin or Bob, they're not going to come back to haunt us any time soon. They're being retrained."

Partisan lifts a hand.

"I don't want to know, nor should I. Compartmentalize that shit, I'm just a soldier right now. A soldier who has places to be, and things to do. I'll get ahold of you as soon as we have a firm date, alright? Rest well, and keep your mouth shut in the meantime. We'll be in touch."

"Just letting you know they're not going to leak. And don't worry. The Doctor won't talk about anything he shouldn't," the hollow voice says, and Seraph lifts off the ground, wrapping in light and vanishing.
