Nancy walks out of the kitchen as all her candies need time to cool. "I told you guys already," she calls into the kitchen as she makes her way to the tv room. "I don't turn 21 till Friday. They are just plain candy." There is a series of BAMFS in the kitchen.

"And don't forget to turn off the light, please," Nancy calls out, thanking them when they do.

She flops onto the couch, debating going up to her bed to watch tv, but too lazy to go up the stairs in the summer heat.

*

Soft whistling comes through the halls as Bobby also seeks refuge from the heat. There's a brief light in the kitchen as he fetches a soft drink, which flicks out a moment later as he comes into the sitting room. It was apparently casual day at work because he's in jeans and polo. No lab coat today. When he sees Nancy a smile lights up his face.

"Hey there." He says, coming to find a seat near her. "Quiet night tonight."

*

Hearing the whistling, she already knows who it is. Bobby is always whistiling, just like she's always sucking on a candy. She is smiling as he enters the TV room. She flips through the channels and since the little ones are asleep, turns on some Robot Chicken. Time for some good old inappropriate humor. "How was work today? Do anything fun?" And by fun, she usually means she wants to hear him talk all sciency and nerdy.

*

It's really nice finding someone whose eyes don't just glaze over when he talks about work. Knowing she rather enjoys the fact that he doesn't dumb it down for her only makes it sort of impishly fun. Glancing up as the signature chicken comes on he chuckles. "Haven't seen this in a while. Yeah, we were working more on that polymer based superconductor I told you about a while back." He goes on for several minutes explaining things about carbon bonds, thermodynamic properties and temperatures measured in kelvin.

*

Nancy listens, giggling as she twists the lolly in her mouth. She has told him repeatedly that she has absolutely no clue what he's talking about, but she loves hearing it all the same, loves hearing how enthusiastic he is about it all. She moves her feet so he can sit down on the couch with her, though if he does, her feet go instantly into his lap.

*

Bobby does and he doesn't seem to mind. It does take him several more minutes to complete a 'satisfactory' explanation of what he did at work today. When he's done he takes a long sip of his drink. He gives her a grin and rests his hand down on her shin, right about where his lap would be.

"So what did you do today? Anything fun?

*

"Fun? Well, I can hold my power in to my sleeping level now without a problem. I don't feel nauseous when I do it, but I do have to remember to do it. So, it's not my natural place to be, but it's not a huge pain in the ass now like it was a month ago. And… I've been working on letting my aura get bigger. When I'm really mad, it gets pretty big. I'm seeing if I can get it that big without being angry." She rubs her feet on his thigh and smiles at him. "S'good to see you again. No news yet on the attack on the hospital."

*

"I get the feeling that these kind of things take time." Bobby pats Nancy's shin as she rubs her foot on him. "Good to see you again too. Just hangin' out? It's been a scorcher today." Fortunately Bobby has an instant chill ability, but if he doesn't want to be obvious and most of the time he does not, he can't use it.

*

"Well, you would know. You were here for a whole summer to learn control too, as I recall." She isn't really watching the TV. It's more idle background noise then anything. And yeah, it's been a real hot one. I'd ask you to cool me off, but you can't with me so close to you. Although… one day, I'll have to have you over to be my AC unit."

*

"Y'know I could go to the kitchen, freeze a wet cloth and bring it back. The ice is perfectly real once I make it. It'll stick around inside your field." Kind of like the guy who made it. He doesn't seem to have any problems there whatsoever. One might wonder why.

"And yes, I was, though I meant more, I get the feeling planning attacks like that takes time."

*

"Oh! Oh yeah. It probably does. I've never actually planned an attack, I just go along for the ride and shoot things. I got some new toys though, for this fight. All sorts of non-lethals. Oh… and a car. Don't suppose you noticed the new Charger in the garage?" She starts to grin wide, doing a little wiggle dance on the couch.

*

Bobby blinks. "The black and green one? I was wondering whose that was." He peers at her with a grin as she wiggles into the cushions.

"Car? Do I want to know how you got a car? Not that this isn't pretty cool. I'll bet having your own set of wheels is gonna turn out to be handy in pretty short order." Much as Bobby likes driving Nan around, and he likes it a lot, the fact is he can't be there all the time.

*

Nancy nods her head, grinning smugly. "I got it by having survived for 21 years in New York without ki… dying. My foster brother got it for me. Along with all the weapons I have in my room. Seriously, if Cal finds out about all the weapons in my bedroom, he's gonna plotz." She sits up then and moves over to sit up close to Bobby and nods.

"It will be nice, but… does that mean I don't get my cool chauffeur anymore?"

*

"Jer, right? We gotta meet sometime." Bobby gives Nancy a grin and tips an imaginary hat. "What, and stop getting chances to hang out with you? Not likely. You let me know if you need a driver, I'll as often as I can be."

Another pat on her leg and a short chuckle as something on the TV draws a bit of a laugh from him. "I was wondering if maybe you wouldn't need one anymore, but I guess you answered that question."

*

Nancy grins up at him as she takes his arm and wraps it around a shoulder. "Baby, you can drive my car," she says and then boops his nose. She chuckles at the stupidity on the tv screen. "So, you going to sleep in the mansion tonight?"

*

"I was debating that. Possibly. It's a forty minute drive back to the flat, after all." Bobby says with a chuckle, grinning at the boop on his nose. He seems quite happy to have his arm around her shoulder and gives Nancy a little squeeze. "Though if you needed outta here it'd be worth the drive I think."

*

Nancy gives Bobby a sidelong glance and a smirk. "Well, I don't need to be out of here, but I was thinking of visiting my mom tomorrow. I haven't seen her in over a month. She's likely gonna be really bad, but… Think I could crash on your couch? The doctor that is taking care of her is in M-Town."

*

Bobby gives Nancy a grin. "Well, in that case, maybe it's worth the drive. Where is she staying anyway? I thought you said your apartment got burned down…" He was sorry to hear that though it's a good thing that her mom managed to get clear.

"Which doctor is it anyway? I'm familiar with most of the clinics in M-Town. There aren't all that many. Legal ones, that is."

*

"It did. That's why she's staying somewhere else. I don't actually know where. Yet. I didn't think it prudent to ask until he's ready to take me there. Knowing the safe houses of a person is.. touchy."

She goes to turn off the TV and then heads into the kitchen, decanting all her freshly made lollipops. "Something about the C Clinic?"

*

"The Avenue C Clinic?" Bobby says, rising to follow Nancy in order to continue the conversation. Well, among other excellent reasons to follow Nancy.

"Possibly Doctor DiLucci. That was the clinic we were thinking about going to for the other thing anyway. He's taking care of your mom?" There's a pause as something occurs to Bobby. "Wait… he has safe houses?"

*

Nancy nods her head, wrapping the lollies in cellophane, doing it like it is second nature to her. "That sounds about right."

She laughs then and shakes her head. "Not the doctor. My brother. Jericho. You met Partisan. Jericho is cut from similar cloth, though not so scary. So, if he lives like that, you think he can just have a regular home?"

*

"I guess not." Bobby makes a face. "Must be rough, though. Wonder how they do it? I'm not sure I'd deal with that real well, to be honest Nancy… though maybe I should learn, mmm? So he's watching after your Mom? Oh right, you mentioned him, but I think you called him a friend and not your brother. Sorry. I got confused."

*

Nancy lets out a sigh and turns, leaning against the counter. "He's not my real brother. Just like Partisan isn't my real mother. But they have taken care of me. They are family. Like this place is family. They, for whatever reasons, have helped me make sure I get to see my 21st birthday. Speaking of which… Friday night… Don't know if you have plans…. just saying."

*

"I actually don't beyond, you know, hoping to celebrate said day with you. If you don't mind, that is." Bobby kind of figures she won't mind, but hey, it's her birthday and she can plan how she wants to. "Got any ideas of what you'd like to do for the big day?"

*

Pushing herself off the counter, Nancy closes the distance between herself and Bobby, slipping her arms about his waist. "I know that tradition states that one goes out and gets drunk on the first night they are legal, but I was thinking you and I could go somewhere … quiet. Maybe a little romantic? A picnic maybe and watch the sun set in Central Park?"

*

Bobby is not, mixology talents notwithstanding, a guy who really drinks at all beyond the occasional beer with friends.

"Sure." He says with a quiet smile, his own arms finding their way around Nancy's. "I think that sounds like a really great way to celebrate." And he's got a few ideas for cake… Gonna take a bit of experimentation to get it right though.

*

Sighing happily, Nancy rests her head on Bobby's chest. "Thank you… for not being afraid to come near me. To touch me. And… thank you for sticking around, even when I try to push you away. I know I'm not easy to be around, but… I like that you're a stubborn S.O.B."

*

"Some things, and definitely some people, are worth being stubborn S.O.B's for." Nancy can hear the grin in Bobby's voice as he gives her a gentle squeeze. "And you're very, very welcome Nancy. And you always will be." With her field he's not even cool to the touch under his shirt, though to be honest, it'd be worth pulling his cold all the way in for this in Bobby's opinion.

*

Nancy has never said it, but she wouldn't mind the cold. Not that she'll ever feel it. Around her, he's just normal. And in that regard, so is she. She looks up at him and stands on her tiptoes to steal a quick kiss. "I'll race ya to your house. First one there doesn't have to sleep on the couch," she teases, punches him in the arm and then makes a break for the garage.

*

Bobby blinks and then grabs his keys from his pocket and is out the kitchen door practically on her heels, grinning madly all the way.
