Jericho doesn't get out much except really for one thing. Running. He does his running typically early in the morning and never takes the same route twice. Paranoid man is paranoid but it's kept him alive so far. Today, it's the Bronx. Right on the line were nice meets not-so-nice. To his right, gentrified, manicured homes. To his left, well, it's not skid row but it's only a few steps removed. In any case he's on mile six… maybe seven. Not quite halfway done today when the shattering of glass gets his attention. Ordinarily this isn't something that concerns him but… well this isn't a nice neighborhood and people with families live here. Looks like it's coming from that large… mmm, group home? Or something. Right over there.

*

The Eleanor Bishop Memorial Women's Shelter doesn't get a lot of visitors early in the morning. In truth, it doesn't get a lot of visitors in general. This morning, though, there's a purple mustang pulled up around the side of the building, where Kate is in the process of carrying bags full of donated clothes into the washroom to be laundered. Her own laundry, that never gets done. But the clothes that get donated to the shelter? Those are a priority. With her head in the trunk, she almost misses the sound of glass at first, pausing her rustling to listen for a repeat.

*

When Lucky wakes up, he finds himself laying by the side of the road, with a small newspaper covering his face. The whole previous night is nothing but a blurr as so many nights are for Jason, and he feels like he's spent days in a tumble drier. He stumbles into the first open building looking for a phone.

*

Jericho is, for a moment, just curious, just wanting to make sure it's nothing awful happening here. Break ins aren't uncommon though you'd think a Women's Shelter wouldn't be a lucrative target. Not that it stops some of these creeps.

It seems it's a bit worse than just that. From inside there's the unmistakable sound of a woman's terrified scream that sends Jericho into a sprint and toward what seems to be a broken window in the back.

The scream is a definite answer to the mental question of 'did I just hear something?' Kate jerks her way out of the trunk, though not without snagging a bow and quiver on her way. It only takes her a moment to burst in through the side door and sprint toward the source of the sound, arrow nocked and ready.

One moment Jason's hands are completely empty, the next he's holding a rather nice looking revolver held low in both hands. There will be plenty of time to get over this hangover later, for the time being he's got to get to the source of that screaming. He's off into a full run, diving rather ridiculously through an open window, as if he where some sort of action movie character. For a second he's not even sure if he's in the right buildings, but he hopes he doesn't get a night in jail for entering.

*

Inside Jericho has come in through, apparently, a bathroom. The scream came from one of the main rooms. It's not pretty, from what he can see through the door even as his traces flush red and he sprouts claws and near-demonic red eyes (as opposed to his otherworldly normally amber ones).

In that main room is a large, hirsute, almost yeti like creature holding a terrified looking brunette by her wrist as she desperately tries to tug away.

"Rick you shouldn't be here! Get away from me!!!"

*

Yeah, that looks safe enough to shoot. Kate doesn't even hesitate when she steps into the room to find one of the residents under attack. Arrow is already nocked. Breath in, pull, aim, watch, release. It's like time slows down as she fires at the creature's wrist, hoping to get him to let go of the woman.

*

Instinct and training kicks in for Jason, and he can't help himself as his body goes into autopilot. He falls onto one knee taking aim and firing off two earth shattering rounds of .357 Gold Dot JHP, each one aimed for the back of a kneecap. Where he in his right mind maybe he would have asked something about the situation, checked with people to make sure it wasn't a costume, but right now he's not in his right mind. Despite not having fired a gun in who knows how long it somehow comes back naturally to him, as if he'd never left the army.

*

Jericho comes out as Lucky fires, all red trace glows and claws. He jumps and rakes them into the back of the really, ugly… bad boyfriend? Something like that. Right at the same time Kate's arrow goes through its wrist, releasing the woman and Lucky's shot explodes through the kneecap. It/he stumbles and goes down on its wounded knee with a cry of pain. Then it looks up at Kate…

And it looks pissed.

*

"Try it." Kate already has another arrow nocked and aimed, standing firm as she stares down…well, whatever or whoever that is. She doesn't look away from it, but she adds for whoever else has showed up and taken out kneecaps: "Do me a favor and take it easy on the gunfire in here, yeah? People'll panic and it'll get a lot more dangerous."

*

Leveling his revolver at the creatures center of mass, Jason sits quietly waiting to see what could happen next. All it would take is one more pull of the trigger one shot just at the creatures heart, and this would be over in less time than it took him to get up this morning. Instead of pulling the trigger he sits quietly listening to the environment around him, his eyes locked on his target.

*

"Whatever you say, you little snit of a girl! No one takes from Rick!" Clearly, this guy has some issues. He lunges at Kate though not suuuuuper well given the bullet through the one knee. Right as he does Jericho darts in to slice a tendon off the other leg but it won't matter if someone doesn't do something more. Someone, like, perhaps the other two people in the room.

*

*TWANG* Kate releases the arrow she had nocked, aimed at Rick's shoulder. In the same motion, with smooth, practiced ease, she sidesteps that lunge, reaching out with her free hand to use his own momentum to twist him into a throw. Of course, since she didn't actually look toward the source of the gunshots…that sort of means she's flinging him at Lucky. Oops.

*

The creature comes flying right for Lucky, and instead of rolling out of the way, or firing off a round, he drops his handgun to the floor with a clatter, carrying on the fallow through. He doesn't catch the creature, as much as keep his momentum going, in the direction of the very window he had arrived from. It's interesting how quick his reactions are, not superhuman, but still nothing to mess with.

*

Thud The wall, indeed the building shakes. Rick, whom or whatever he is, groans and doesn't move. He's had enough it seems. Though this doesn't prevent Jericho from walking over and kicking him in his squat, muzzled face. Now he's well and truly out. "Well, that was exciting." The red-traced man says as he looks back at the other two in the room to see who he's dealing with, before the rest of the building wakes up and rushes into the room. Which it is in the process of doing.

*

"Dammit," Kate sighs as chaos starts to break out inside the shelter, sleepy women and a few children peeking their heads out of the doors while a matronly woman comes out to see the mess. "It's okay, Dotty," Kate raises a hand reassuringly to the woman. "Go ahead and call the cops, but let them know it's been handled."

*

Cops. That one word rings through Jason's mind and he knows it's time to go. He can't be around when the cops show, but as he quickly collects the spent shell casing with a gloved hand he looks towards the rest of the room. He looks haggard scarred, and covered in cuts scrapes and bumps from a very rough life, but there's that feeling that if he wanted to he could kill a man with the right look. "I was never here" His voice a low baritone with a heavy layer of gravel to it that says he does a lot of screaming.

*

Jericho really shouldn't be seen by the police either. It doesn't tend to end well. "That's my cue as well. Good luck with big fuzzy and angry there." The hacker nods as he shuts his traces off and gives Kate a nod, vaguely recognizing her. "See you 'round…"

*

"Right. Never here." Kate eyes Lucky as he makes his escape, then sighs when Jericho runs off as well. "It's okay, guys. Everything's good. Go back to sleep, we'll take care of it," she assures the women, gently guiding them back toward their rooms. Time to figure out how to explain this one…
