Things have been so busy between Burning Human and the Nest that Bobby and Nancy haven't really had time to see one another. So tonight, despite the fact that there's a bunch of work and planning to be done. Bobby insisted on taking her out for Chinese food in Manhattan. Golden Dragon, wonderful little place in the middle of China Town. And yes, they'd have to bring some of that work with them, but at least they could look at it together without thirty other people looking over their shoulders.

Bobby's gotten dressed up just a little bit for this. Nice shirt, slacks, sports coat. He can clean up, he just usually doesn't. He's looking over the menu right now, sitting next to Nancy rather than across from her.

*

Nancy hasn't had much opportunity to dress up nicely lately. Not with all the hard labor at the farm. School starts in only a couple more days and she is happy to take this chance to relax with the one person that can always make her smile. She reaches across the table, slipping her hand in his.

"How has the festival been? I wanted to go to the concert, but not till I can pull my power in just a little tighter. I don't want to accidently kill someone who's power keeps their heart beating or something."

She looks at the menu, giving Bobby's hand a squeeze. "Do you like spicy food? We never really talked about that." Ah yes, the awkward moments in a relationship where you have to actually find out about what the person you like likes.

*

"It was okay. Lot of keeping drunk people from fighting each other. Last night though, ugh. There was a huge mess at the last concert. Some guy in green and gold and the honest to god Hulk had a cage match. I think they're still cleaning it up…" He shakes his head for a moment and then smiles.

"But other than that, not too bad. And yes, I love spicy foods. Which one were you looking at?" Bobby leans over to look at her menu even though he has one himself.

"How have you been? Sorry things have been so nuts lately."

*

Nancy's eyes go wide. "The Hulk was there? Did anyone get hurt?" Her brow furrows with concern. Ever since she stopped being aloof and pretending she didn't care about people, she finds she cares about everyone. It's a little weird.

When asked about her preference, Nancy smiles. "I love szechuan, so I was thinking the shredded pork with black mushrooms. That and some rice and I'm a happy girl. Until it's time to go to bed and I'm groaning in pain, that is." She laughs, "Not that that has ever stopped me from doing it again and again."

She gives Bobby's hand another squeeze. "I was … a little bad. I took in a couple of those Kougerrands and had them exchanged. Bought myself a new cello. Carbon fibre. It's sooooo awesome!"

*

Bobby laughs. "We'll do that then, and the General Cho Chicken and maybe some egg rolls and call it good, then." He squeezes her hand back. "Some people did. There was a lot of things going on but it wasn't as bad as it could have been."

He takes a deep breath and lets out a contented sigh. "New Cello huh? I can't wait to hear you play it. Maybe we should do music night sometime at the Nest. Guitar and Cello?" Sounds like fun to him. A server comes and takes both the order and their menus.

"So…" Bobby produces some paperwork. "We've got to figure out some financial stuff. I think that maybe Beth, Becky, Jason and Kent are the guys we should send out to classes first. Maybe see what they're interested in taking. And… you know I hesitate to ask this, but… what do we think about maybe looking for the other Nutates?"

*

"Music night sounds like a great idea. I'm sure that you and I aren't the only ones that can play. And now that the Moms are doing so much better, they are starting to appreciate music again. Mom listened to me practice for the first time ever without screaming at me. Seems the part of the brain that is affected by music is where the brain damage occurred first. It does more then just music, but that was yet another side effect." She rolls her eyes and shakes her head. The Ubermensch program was nasty with side effects for the mothers.

She looks over the paperwork, nodding her head. "Maybe if Jason has something to lean on, other than his power, he won't feel so compelled to use it all the time. Although, I've noticed he's using it less and less. Oh, and Becky is starting to wear down to his efforts." She smirks at that.

Leaning her head to one side, she ponders. "Well, there are the M-Series. None of their powers are that great, but we could help with their mothers at least. And there are five more Nutates that we are missing."

*

"Poor Becky. Or poor Jason. I can't decide. She'll be a handful for him even if he does manage to snag her." Bobby chuckles as the rice arrives ahead of the rest of the food. "And yeah, those are the ones I was thinking of, mostly the missing five but if we can find the M's… well it doesn't matter what the powers are. They may need help, right? And that's what we came together to do."

The 'rescue team' is largely focused on other things now, but he and Nancy are in it for the long haul.

"Oh… one other thing. I'm a bit worried about Gwen.."

*

"Well, she's the first girl who doesn't fall for his baloney. I think that's why he likes her. He actually has to be genuine. It's a nice change for him." She nods when Bobby says that the Nest was created to help people that need it. Not just mutants, but anyone that has suffered from human trafficking. "I have a copy of all the files on my work computer at the Nest. The M-Series should be relatively easy to find. And what's wrong with Gwen? What happened?"

*

"Well we were looking at dogs today. You know, for companionship and for helping guard the place? Nothing deters folks like four or five dogs and there's plenty of people to help take care of them." Bobby sighs and shakes his head. "Nancy I thought she was going to cry when she saw them. I talked later to the therapist Doctor DiLucci recommended. He told me it was an issue he'd been working on with her but couldn't say more."

Food arrives and Bobby helps pass out the plates.

"She seemed pretty shaken. Not by all the dogs. Just the shepherds… and the malamutes…"

*

Nancy nods and smiles to the waitress as the food arrives, putting the paperwork away so it doesn't end up all saucy with szechuan. "So, Gwen is having a rough time with larger dogs? Thanks for letting me know. I'll talk to her about it tonight. Girl to girl. She might open up to me, or she might not. But it will be good for her to know that someone wants to listen."

The plates passed, now it is time for the food to do the same. Nancy scoops healthy dollops of food and puts them on each plate.

*

"I think you should. Besides, she looks up to you. I mean, they all do, but she really does. And she was with you when…" Bobby still doesn't like to think about what nearly happened to Nancy. And he doesn't know the half of it. Bobby serves himself and just eats for a few minutes in silence. "So, back to the other thing… I was thinking, Hydra was operating the Nutates out of that hospital. Even if they were abroad, they'd probably return there if they had hooks in them. Or somewhere near there."

*

Nancy still blushes whenever she is reminded how the people at the Nest look up to her. She doesn't feel she deserves it, which makes her work all the harder for them. It's an amusing bit of cylindrical behavior. Nancy enjoys the meal for a bit, loving the burn from the pork and mushrooms, chasing it down with green tea.

"Well, one of them has pretty much an empty file. Shane. He's like Beth. They just couldn't find him. That leaves Jenny, Geoff, Sam and Ben. I've been reading up on them. Sam hasn't been seen in over a year and Jenny was about to be taken in because they have her little brother as an incentive. He's with us now, but still. She doesn't know that.:

*

"Hrm. Odds are good that Jenny at least is somewhere in the city. But if they hadn't made contact yet the most she may know is that her little brother is missing." Which makes Bobby feel bad, honestly. She's probably pretty tore up about it, especially if Hydra thought she cared enough to use her little brother as leverage. "I'd suggest taking him with us but… maybe not at first. I don't want to risk exposing people to more danger and it's possible people like Geoff or Ben or Sam are still 'loyal' you know?"

*

"I find it hard to imagine that anyone could be loyal to Polyglobal. They treated us like lab animals. Every week, go in get yer blood test, sit for a psych eval and then the monthly extra tests for powers. Try to move the cup with your mind. So glad I never have to do that again." She ponders the idea of Jenny and eats slowly. "Well, we could go to her last known location and just ask to talk to her?"

*

"I'm glad you don't either…" Bobby says gently, taking Nan's hand once more and giving it a squeeze. "Let's do that. Tomorrow. We'll both drive out there and see who's there. Beyond that… we've got some detective work to do. Maybe I can get some folks to help out though. Or maybe you can. You have the cellphone number of an Alien princess after all…" Another few bites of General Cho Chicken follow.

*

Nancy snorts softly. "Yeah. I suppose alien technology might be able to find the missing Nutates where Hydra couldn't. That's actually a really good idea. I'll ask for a beam up tomorrow night when we get back from our drive." She nibbles a bit and then gestures with her chopsticks. "How have things been going with Roberto? What's working for him like?

*

"Not too bad. I set my own schedule, get to make time to help people, direct my own research. So long as I'm actually doing productive things I'm kind of my own boss. And Warm Bobby's not bad at all. A bit… er, lusty, but hey his friends seem to like it. And he hasn't tried to snag you so I'm not worried. Be a bit more worried about that Darcy girl trying to steal you." Bobby winks and grins. Yes. He'd heard.

*

"I think Roberto knows that there are certain boundaries you don't cross. I mean, he still flirts with me, but it's not really serious flirting, you know? Mostly it's just teasing." When Darcy is brought up, Nancy has to laugh. "Look what you got me into. Wake up up at 1 in the morning and I end up some woman's love slave. Oh, and defending your honor. She thought you might be gay."

*

Bobby rolls his eyes. "What? Just because I won't take advantage of a drunk woman?" Not that Darcy isn't cute, but A) She's not Nancy and B) Even if Bobby were that kind of guy, it would have been wrong in the state she was in. "Love slave, though mmm? Do I need to go freeze Darcy or just take you back so you can be mine?" He's teasing now because the notion of Nan being that way for anyone is kind of laughable.

*

Nancy laughs, winking at Bobby. "Ooooh, gonna steal me away from the Sass Mastah? Tie me down to the bed for your own greedy self?" She leans in, kissing her fingertips before passing the kiss to his nose. "I think I could live with that plan," she tells him impishly. "Yeah, I told her you were totally devoted to your girlfriend who is incredibly hot and super nice and talented. And rich. So, if she asks you about your girlfriend, cover for me, would ya?"

*

Bobby smiles. "I think that sounds like a good plan, don't you?" He kisses Nancy on the nose before giving her a proper one. "You don't want me to let on that the super nice, incredibly hot girlfriend is you? I mean I don't really see who else it could be, you know?" He takes Nancy's hand and holds it between the two of them, eyes shining with mischief and affection.

*

Nancy looses herself in Bobby's eyes for a while, the food forgotten. She then realizes just how sappy she is being and pulls her hand away with a laugh. "Nah, let her suffer a little more. It will be funny when she finally sees the two of us together. So, this is my last year at Juilliard. And then I am heading back to school again. Never thought I would be saying that. But I think music night is going to have to happen. I'm loving the idea more and more as I think about it." She reaches across to Bobby and caresses his cheek. "Next time, we ask for a both so I can sit closer to you."

*

"Let's make next time soon." Bobby smiles gently. "We've both been busy and will be again, I imagine. No sense in wasting time, right?" He seems quite fond of Nancy's pale grey eyes, and has, now that he thinks about it, for some time.

*

"Maybe we should make an official date night? I mean, hanging out with you in your apartment and only getting out of bed for food, water or the bathroom is all great and fun, but this going out like civilized people has it's up sides. Like being able to show off my new boots." Nancy steals the last black mushroom off Bobby's plate, popping it into her mouth. "Though, someday, I want to go on a vacation with you. A cruise in the Bahamas or something. Do all that stupid tourist stuff like shuffleboard."

*

"I'd like that." Bobby laughs. "We'll work something out. Maybe a Christmas gift to ourselves, hrm?"

He looks down at Nancy's boots with a smile. "Mmmm. I like your Illyana-inspired sense of style by the way. It looks less intimidating on you than it does on her. Uh, don't tell her I said that, though."

*

Nancy considers the idea of a Christmas present for herself so large as to be not able to fit in a gift card. She's gone from pauper to Prince in just one summer and it still has her reeling from time to time. So, instead, she focusses on the boots.

*

"I think she'd be more insulted if you said I was more intimidating in them. I always wanted to buy stuff like this, but on my budget, I just couldn't afford it. I've had to tone things down now that I'm at the Nest. I have given myself a *reasonable* paycheck. I don't want to abuse the system."

*

"That means that they were right to pick you, Nancy." The ice nerd smiles a bit more broadly. "We need to find some administrators, at least one, to handle the legal/paperwork end of things. Maybe your Brother Wolf or Miss Potts can suggest something?" He waves a hand. "Anyway, we're both gonna work hard, but there's no reason we both can't enjoy being rewarded for it a little. Now, enough of that…" He grins. "What do you say to a late night movie?"

*

Under the table, Nancy's boots are playing with Bobby's slacks playfully. "Someone that knows about all this stuff better then me would be good to have around. I've been mostly relying on Gus. He's awesome at this sort of thing. I could see if he wants to take the job of administrator of the farm as a more permanent thing. Give him a paycheck too."

At the mention of a movie, Nancy grins. "Can we see Guardians again? That movie rocks!"

*

"Rockets, don't you mean?" Bobby's aware of Nancy's fondness for the critter. "And yeah, we can, I think that's a great idea!"

He playfully taps her boot with his shoe and leaves a few bills on the table. He's been paid a bit better since he signed on with 'Berto. "Okay. Well, shall we?"

*

Nancy grins. She used to have a raccoon in her stuffy collection. Before they all got blown to bits. Now, it's just Archie the Owl. But she has a Bobby to cuddle with in bed at night now instead, so she's stepped up in the cuddling department.

Dinner finished, Nancy stands up and links her arm in Bobby's and smiles up at him. "We shall. Lead the way, Mr. Drake. I'm all yours.”
