Lights Out 1: Meet and Greet

Summary:
September 4, 2014: X-men: Red and the Titans gather at Casa da Costa for a much-deserved party.

Da Costa Penthouse

A grand penthouse with a largely open floor plan and minimalist architecture, this home is designed to rely as much as possible on natural light. Tall plate-glass windows dominate every exterior wall. The furnishings are modern and chic, and pale hardwoods and white dominate the color scheme. The decor is less refined, with framed movie posters and Brasilian futebol memorabilia giving a sense of the occupant's interests. There's a high-end entertainment center, a sprawling kitchen, a wide patio with a hot tub, and every other imaginable amenity.

Special event +view

  • A large space has been cleared for a dance floor lit by strobes and multicolored projections. Beats are provided by three-armed mutant DJ Crimson Typhoon, an M-Town mainstay, who spins dance music from all eras blended with thudding bass.
  • A neon-lit open bar, staffed by a pair of attractive and competent bartenders, offers top-shelf versions of most liquors, reasonably good wine, and craft and imported beers. A selection of virgin cocktails is also available, for the straight-laced underage, teetotalers, and designated drivers.
  • Along one wall, a long table has been laden with food, from grab-and-go canapés to more substantial fare that can be plated and eaten as a proper meal. The best place to do so is out on the patio, the doors to which have been left ajar. A few deck chairs and cafe tables provide limited seating in a slightly quieter environment than that inside. The spacious stone jacuzzi is also lit and bubbling, if anyone is feeling particularly daring or cavalier about getting their clothes wet.

Mood Music:

It's late evening, and Roberto da Costa's penthouse is darker by far than its solar-powered owner usually keeps it. There's a guest list at the security desk in the lobby, and anyone on it will step off the express elevator into a nightlife scene straight out of a movie. Strobes, laser light, and the thudding bass from a DJ booth have transformed a home into a nightclub for the night. The crowd is still fairly thin at the moment, as it's early in the life cycle of the party, but already a decent group is circulating: mostly Red Team support staff who normally work downstairs, but a few upstart superheroes in civvies and their dates, too. The host has just finished explaining some obscure cocktail to one of the bartenders, and is chatting and laughing with a small group of people who are waiting to taste-test the concoction.

-

Bobby has come from work, but did have the sense to bring a change of nicer clothes which he avails himself of in one of the empty apartments adjoining the Red HQ before going up to the penthouse itself. The sudden strube lights and lasers take him a bit by surprise but then, this is a mixer for twentysomthings, not a board meeting.

"Hey Warm Bobby. Nice set up. Anyone arrive just yet?"

-

"You've arrived! My twin, everyone: meet the Bobby who does cold," Roberto introduces Bobby grandly, raising a stemmed glass at him the moment the bartender hands it over. "Proving that good icy fences make good M-Town neighbors since sometime last week." A couple of women titter, less at the inscrutable joke than at the florid, tipsy manner with which 'Berto delivers it.

"Have a Frisco," the Brazilian suggests, extending the glass farther toward Iceman and grabbing another for himself. "I had this lovely lady make extras. They have Benedictine in them." The lady in question is the bartender, who rolls her eyes at Warm Bobby before flashing a smile at Cool Bobby.

-

Bobby takes the glass and takes a sip. He doesn't drink much himself and has discovered that hangovers suck, so he probably won't have all that much. With a wave of his hand, though, he does make Berto's glass ice over and chill the drink just about perfectly. "Nice to meet you." The Cool Guy says to the bartender with a polite half bow. "Warming up the party a bit early, Berto? Well, warming up is kind of your thing I suppose."

-

Roberto waggles a finger at Bobby. "I had to taste everything and make sure it was all top quality," he explains. Or excuses, anyway. "Only the best for my friends and guests. And now I am an extremely friendly and slightly ridiculous host, which is as it should be." He tastes his drink, eyes shut, and beams over at the bartender. "Perfeito! You can barely tell that it is entirly booze and like a teaspoon of lemon juice!" He holds up the finger and thumb of his off hand, close together, to demonstrate just how little lemon juice is in these things. Uh-oh. "I learned this one from one of the Kennedys. I forget which." Drinks acquired, he starts to drift away from the bar, but he's easily influenced in terms of where he'll head next.

-

"Whoo boy. C'mon Bobby if you get any tostier you're liable to set the place alight. I think I saw some of our fellows over here." Cold Twin leads Toasted Bobby over to where he thinks he saw some of the Red Team hanging out with folks that he presumes are Titans. He's never met any of them himself, at least not that he's aware of.

-

"I only had a tiny taste. Of everything back there," da Costa reassures Drake. "I'm sure it didn't add up or anything, certo? I'll be fiiiine." He allows himself to be steered, glancing around to make sure everyone is having fun. He also glances longingly at the dance floor, although whether he's yearning to bust out some moves or just checking out the dancers is hard to tell.

They end up parked by the food table, which is laden with upscale snacks and a few actual entrees. "Good day at work, then? Doing anything cool? Other than the obvious, of course."

-

The mixer - at a fancy apartment in the city. Zatanna Zatara had never quite been to a party like this before - certainly, she had been to /parties/ of various kinds. but never quite anything so posh. At least it was an 'official' mixer. That made it easy to choose what to wear.

And maybe, just maybe, Zatanna would be a little theatrical about her arrival.

Following a patron through the open door in that brief moment of time, there was a hat. A top hat, even. Seemingly caught on the winds, bobbing to and fro as it is seemingly caught by a draft even in the air. The hat tumbles end over end, before it alights upon the ground, the open portion of it pointed up towards the ceiling.

And from it, smoke starts to billow. A lavender smoke, sparkling and glittering, confined seemingly to a smallish area, enough space to hide a person in. That was the moment that a white-gloved hand emerges from the cloud and plucks up the hat, the cloud disappating as she settles said hat upon her head at a jaunty angle. "Hiii~ Am I late for the party?" she calls.

Hopefully, she doesn't get fireballed.

-

Bobby grins. "Is that one of your guests or did you hire a stage magician for this?" It's a valid question. With Berto it could kind of go either way. Somewhere along the way the ice nerd has gotten rid of his drink. He really doesn't need to be tipsy for this, much as Berto seems to think it's his hostly duty to be so. At least he's a pleasant not-quite-drunk.

-

"shiny head and shiny heart tonight an android make," the sound comes faintly up the side of the building, "my parents think my robot's trouble. I only wanted a best friend, I only wanted someone that I could trust yeah…
A silver motorcycle drives up the side of the building, swerving to pop out at the open gap where the Red Team has its "flying vehicle" garage, and with a metallic flash it spins in the air and turns into a humanoid shape, which lands on the flat landing pad. It walks forward a few yards to get out of the way, and then a human-sized and human-shaped person appears out of the tall robot, which folds up on itself into a smaller box for later re-use. The emergent creature changes color slightly to finally stand in a red-team styled motorcycle suit, no helmet, gold skin, chrome-blue metallic hair. He walks into the main room.

"Hey. Sorry, I had to drive up from Staten, traffic is ugly," the robot guy says. "Oh, hello. I'm Mike."

-

Fireballed? On the contrary: 'Berto starts applauding as he veers away from the food table and toward Zatanna. "Now that," he says approvingly, "is how you show up to a superhero party. Take notes, everyone." He offers a welcoming grin and his hand to the girl. "Roberto da Costa. Welcome to my home. Was that some kind of fancy teleportation? Invisibility? Actual magic?" Then Mike appears, and he grins even wider. "A challenger appears! I should have thought to have a 'best entrance' contest." He beckons Zatanna and Mike over to where he was chatting with the other Bobby. It's a mixer, right? He's going to see to it that they mix.

-

"Zatanna Zatara," says Zee in response to Roberto - her eyes briefly flickering towards Bobby. For every one that caught her eye, her smile grows just a little bigger, a little brighter - Mike getting a brief bit of attention as the silvery robot-dude introduces himself, Zatanna bringing up a hand to the rim of her hat to tug it down in greeting to him.

But she was talking to someone, so Zee turns her attention to him, smiling even brighter at the attention her entrance had granted her. "…~Mistress~ of Magic!" she exclaims, waggling her white-gloved hand a bit. Of course, that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but one step at a time. "Thank you for inviting me and my friends to your home, um. I think I… got here faster than most of them," she says, having cased the room for anyone familiar for starters.

As for what it was? "Well, a magician ~never~ reveals her secrets," she says with a wink to Roberto, tapping the side of her nose. Zatanna would join the other two, but for now… well, she seems to be heading towards the open bar. "Gimme a minute? I'm just gonna order something."

-

"No, I certainly want to see you but I promised a friend I'd drop by," Warren Worthington esquire says over his cellphone. He is standing in front of Roberto's front door, "Yeah well, I didn't think you wanted to come! Hello? Dang it anyway," he mutters, looking at his screen of his phone after he's hung up on. As the door opens, Warren walks into Roberto's penthouse, and tucks his cellphone into his pocket. Of course, he heads right for the bar.

-

"Sorry I missed the entrance," Mike says. "I'm something of a fan of the Zatara family. Hey, Berto, I need to go talk to the computers for a few minutes, I'll be back as soon as I can. Sorry about mixing work with pleasure," and he waves generally to the group of people and walks past the winged fellow … "Hi there," … and he's out the door and heading to the computer center.

-

Bobby is standing over by a rather tipsy Berto, watching Mike trundle off. He'd invited Nancy down to this event but didn't know if she'd be able to shake loose from her work. "I don't think we've properly met…" He says to the winged man after looking around for Nancy for a moment. Zatara gets a grin. "You're quite good, Miss Zatara. Pleased to meet you."

-

"Encantada," Roberto answers Zee with a smirk. "You and your friends are always welcome." He's very pleased by his own wordplay ('enchanted,' get it?), but that doesn't stop him from taking a moment to wave to Mike. "Não há problema! You should finish up your work anyway, so you can relax at the party." He also gives Warren a salutatory nod as he enters and makes a barward beeline. He doesn't interrupt the man, though: he knows that feel, bro. Another sip of his own Frisco is in order, to fortify him for the party.

-

A chance to dress up and not be in her work clothes? A chance to pretend she's a twenty-one year old goth again, and not some uber responsible leader of a safety net for people that have suffered from human trafficking? Oh yes. Yes yes yes! And so, after a day of study over at Juilliard, instead of going straight home to deal with paperwork and talk to the other Nutates (not that she doesn't love it), Nancy is over to Roberto's dressed up in her finest. It's not symphony orchestra sorta outfits, but nicer then her usual. The elevator doors open and she smiles. "Okay, I'm here. You can start the party now."

-

Warren Worthington isn't effected by being hung up on, as he pats Roberto on the shoulders as he passes to the bar, "Hey Roberto, how are ya?" he asks with a grin, "What's that? A drink? Well don't mind if I do, excuse me," he tells him amusedly. He greets Bobby as he gets a drink, "Hi there, uhh you sure? Well I've been in Los Angeles for a while," he tells him as he takes his drink in his hand.

-

That gets a laugh from Cold Bobby. "Really? I spent most of the last three years out in Santa Monica going to UCLA." Nancy's voice cuts through the crowd and the Cool Guy's face lights up. He turns and waves her over. "Ya made it!" Yeah, he sounds pleased about that. Hopefully no one present will mind being less mutant while she's around. If they do, well, he'll just take Nan out on the dance floor.

-

Roberto grins roguishly over at Warren. "Help yourself, by all means. It's all top quality — I checked." He did, too — he's thorough like that.

Nancy he welcomes with arms opened grandly. "Nancy O'Neal, you are as beautiful as an ocean sunrise, surprising no one. Go get a drink, and take Cold Bobby out on the dance floor or something. He needs to let his hair down and I don't know how to do it." From the table, he snags himself a veggie canapé to anchor some of the rye cocktail he's enjoying.

-

Striding into the room, Nancy slips her arms around Bobby and gives him a kiss. Nope, if one is uncomfortable around public displays of affection, then one doesn't want to be around Nancy when she sees a Bobby. The Colder. Bobby the warmer is safe from being the subject of the null's PDAs.

She smiles to Roberto and laughs. "This is why I like you, hot Bobby. You always make it sound like I'm the hottest woman in the room." She looks to Bobby and grins impishly. "I know how to let his hair down, but we're in public, so you'll just have to satisfy yourself with mostly relaxed."

-

Black is always appropriate. Except maybe at a wedding. But for parties? It works. Black shoes, jeans and a black button down shirt all make Simon look even more pale than usual. Stepping tinto the penthouse, he hangs back by the door as he looks around at all the people. It's a lot more crowded than he thought it would be and the Titans he's met aren't even here yet. How did a meet and greet for two relatively small teams turn into… this?

-

"It's nice to meet you too, Bobby," Zatanna had said to the iceman, giving him a little tug downwards of the rim of her hat as a measure of salute, before she continues on to the bar proper.

Zatanna had gotten into a dazzling discussion with one of the bartenders, kinda… swirling her fingertip on the bartop as the woman makes a drink for her. The display of Nancy and Bobby draws the attention of the bartender, and by proxy, Zatanna Zatara's as well. Turning in her seat to look towards the pair, a little smile dances up at the corners of her lips as the finished drink is set by her. "Thank you," she tells the bartender, glancing back towards the party in general as even more people arrive.

The Titan's eyes were drawn to Simon - she hadn't met the man yet, but Zatanna lifts her hand to gesture towards him, smiling brighter.

-

Bobby the Colder returns the affection. Clearly he doesn't have a problem with it. The suggestion that he needs to loosen up gets a good natured eye roll though. "Well I've had a bit to drink." A sip, really. "So maybe that'll be enough for me to really cut loose. Lead on, Nancy." It's a joke, of course. Bobby never has a problem having a good time when Nan's around. "See you guys in a little while." He waves as Simon and the assembled others as the blacked out mutant appears.

-

Warren Worthington orders a complicated cocktail using a bunch of ten-dollar words to test Roberto's promise, then grins at Bobby, "Well I'm back now—-ready for the party, just like old times," he tells Bobby. He smiles at Nancy as she saunters over to give Bobby some attention, but can't ask the question on his lips as his ole pal Bobby is tugged away with his girlfriend. He looks at the ice in his drink and clinks it around a little bit, then has a drink.

-

"Por favor, say no more," Roberto answers, wincing and laughing at Nancy over his drink. "Mostly relaxed will be more than enough for tonight. This is not that kind of party."

He wanders back toward the entrance, giving a small group of Red Team support staff a familiar smile as he scoots past the periphery of their conversation. Nearer the entrance, he sees Simon and grins. "Ohhhh no, Simon. You are not wallflowering tonight. We are going to the bar and you are getting a drink and then I think we are going to dance. This DJ is very popular at the clerbs, and also he is named after a robot from a movie. So cool!" He's not actually going to drag his teammate after him: rather, he'll just make a beeline for the bar so that Simon's only alternative to following is to stand there, awkwardly, pretending he doesn't know his old classmate.

He joins Warren by the bar as the winged man tastes his drink, and gives him an inquisitive, sidelong look. "Satisfied?" he asks. They'll occasionally get into snob-offs. Everyone be sure to stay out of the crossfire.

-

Leading Bobby to the dancefloor by the hand, she is all smiles as she lets the rhythm flow through her and maneuver her body to the beat. Yeah, this is not the Nancy from 6 months ago. Gone is the grumpy goth who never had anything nice to say to anyone. Okay, she is still a goth, but the grumpy is gone. Blame Bobby. It's all his fault. He froze the grumpy out of her and left a happy goth. Bad Bobby. Evil Bobby!

Happily dancing with Bobby, she notices the technicolor cat that just came out of the elevator. "Okay, I haven't even had a drink yet and I'm seeing things."

-

Simon returns the magician's wave with a quick smile. Damn, Berto thought of everything. Will there be clowns too? Bobby gets a nod and then Berto as well. He does stand there a moment looking after Roberto before following. Two drinks. To start. "Hi Warren." he says as he gets tot he bar and then orders two appletinis.

-

Warren Worthington lifts his drink to Roberto, "Only the best, just like you said," he comments, "But I'm not testing you or anything. Not seriously anyway," he chuckles. He smiles at Roberto again and laughs, "When I was in California, they had the expensive stuff day and night. But there's nothing like friends, am I right?" he asks, "Hey, when did Bobby get a hot girlfriend?" he asks Roberto.

-

Bobby seems quite happy to just dance with Nancy and enjoy the party. This isn't really his scene, well, clubs aren't, but Warm Bobby's party? This is just fun. No expectations about 'cutting loose' or 'having fun' in any particular fashion but the way he wants to. And dancing with his girlfirend and hanging out with his firends? That's his idea of fun. And by the way he's dancing, it shows.

-

The technicolor cat would be Vorpal, of the Titans. The few who might be aware of his existence, though, often remember his hero outfit as much as his unusual coloration— 'Cirque du Soleil Refugee' is an apt description for what the Cheshire wears to fight crime— because if Batman has taught anyone anything, it is that consistent theme is fifty percent.

Well, he's about to upset a few memories, as he steps out of the elevator wearing quite elegant clothes- in black. Not your traditional suit and tie, though- but rather a black fashionable Empire-style shirt with a high neck, long sleeves an an assymetric button front that affects a french cavalry cut for its buttons. Black slacks and ankle boots complete the ensemble. He stops to look at the interior of the penthouse, taking everything in.

Internally, he's terrified and out of his element. He has never been in a Penthouse before, much less anywhere near luxury… but he's a feline, and admitting discomfort is as far from his vocabulary as could be. He's also supposed to have a date with him tonihgt- but he doesn't know if he'll show up. Mostly because University is a b and something Might Turn Up. Or maybe he's decided that the date thing wasn't such a good idea…

Enough of that. The cheshire grins and starts walking down, looking for his host- always greet the host first.

-

"Benefits of being public mutants, man. We're sexy, we've got superpowers, and we're seen in public wearing things other than spandex. It's the total package," Roberto tells Warren with a grin. Granted, that had very little to do with Nancy and Cold Bobby getting together, but even when a little bit the worse for drink, he likes to talk up what he and the rest of the Red Team are up to.

His own Frisco is about half finished, so he raises an eyebrow at Simon's spare drink. "Double fisting, camarada? It's pretty early in the night," he teases. "Or is one of those for a hot date?"

He shakes his head and turns to the elevator, spotting a big purple cat person. He thinks he recognizes the guy from that exceptionally fun moment with the prehistoric fish monster. Leaning over to Zatanna, he asks: "That's one of yours, right?" He's hesitant, and hoping that Vorpal doesn't recognize him as the steamrollee from that debacle.

-

Warren Worthington smiles at Roberto and nods knowingly, "Ahh public mutants, right. I've been a board room mutant for a while now. People are starting to get used to it finally," he tells him. He gives a hello to Zatanna as she passes by, "Hi there, enjoying yourself?" he asks.

-

Amidst a crackle of electricity and a whoosh of reddish air, the Flash comes to a stop somewhere next to Vorpal. "Sorry I'm late, V, had to grab a lady out from the clutches of someone evil in Seattle. You know how it is." He gives an upwards nod, "They got any food here? Who's the guy who can't keep our name out his mouth?"

-

Zatanna Zatara swishes her drink in a bit of a circling motion, taking a moment to bring it to her lips and take a sip. It was a virgin drink, of course. A little bit of a smirk touches the corner of her lips as she kinda leans towards Roberto at his question, her eyes already ~dancing~ at the sight of Vorpal. "Indeed he is. And I think I couldn't be happier for that notion," she adds.

"But now that the party is starting… I think it's time to bring in my plus one guest?" asks Zee. Even as Zatanna kinda whistles towards Vorpal as he strides, looking for the host proper. That brings her attention to Warren. "Hello there," she says. "I think I am - how about you?" she asks with a wink.

Whipping off of her hat, she sets the drink back down upon the bartop, moving to set her hat upon the ground proper, oriented upwards again. "Everyone, please - give it a little space," she says. Well. The last time she saw her guest in a busy place, she kinda freaked out, but… with a ~mystic~ wave of her hands over the hat, she focuses in, murmuring something soft beneath her breath. Something in Latin, if people had the ears to hear. A pinch of something crushed in her hand, and she drops that into the hat… and lavender smoke, similiar to the sort that she used in her entrance, billows out of the hat. Now, if things worked as she planned, there would be the silouette of her guest admist the smoke…!

-

Turning her back to Bobby, Nancy continues to dance with Bobby, smirking as she reminds him what the origins of dance are. She looks at him over her shoulder and waggles her brows at him, knowing full well that she's being just plain mean.

-

"No date." Simon answers as becomes obvious when he drinks the first drink without pause and then sets down the empty. The second is for sipping. "That's Vorpal." he tells Berto. "He's the one I first met and told you about. Cheshire cat, not a mutant."

-

Unfortunately for Roberto, Vorpal saw him in his underoos and covered in primordial mucus. And he smelled like all the fish markets in the world after the air conditioner went on the fritz for months. Something -that- hilarious is hard to forget.

Fortunately for Roberto, Vorpal usually has more touch than some of his teammates—- especially with people he doesn't know well yet. Once he claims you as his friend, though, may the flying spaghetti monster have mercy on your soul.

"That is our host, Flash, Mister Roberto Da Costa." Vorpal recognizes him, of course. The GQ spread. The FORBES spread, for crying out loud (for shame!), and of course—covered in mucus. Vorpal steps forward, leading Wally, with a rather pronounced limp on his right leg. He gives Zatanna a wink as she whistles at him, and extends a hand to Roberto.

"Mister Da Costa, a pleasure to formally meet you, we fought together once before." Back when you were slimed. "Hey, Simon! That's right- Cheshire cat. Good at grinning. This is, of course, our Flash." He nods to Wally, "And the man who put the team together. What was he drinking, I don't know." He grins.

-

Bobby is, thankfully, somewhat used to dealing with Nancy's particular brand of teasing. And he's in too good a mood not to tease back. The arrival of the Vorpal and the Flash do not go unnoticed but, honestly, there'll be time to meet them. These look like the Titans he'd heard about and he sincerely hopes that the strange reality fluctuations didn't follow them. They seem like nice people.

-

The Flash looks da Costa up and down. "Sup?"

-

Up in the space Kara Zor-El floats, looking up to a point amongst the stars. Even as godly as the Yellow Sun makes her, the Kryptonian cannot see her home planet from here. If the records in Sanctuary are true, no one could, and no one ever will. Krypton is gone.

As she ponders about what this means for her, for Earth, and why she was sent here, the blonde spots purple smoke around her. What is this!? Readily, the alien tries to chase the smoke away, flying fast to another direction, only to notice the smoke effortlessly keeps up with her.

«Why can't I be left-»

Alone? Kara is on Earth again. She can smell those scents of food in this planet, traffic jams and horns, and she can spot a top hat. She knows that top hat. Arching a brow, she looks at Zatanna, and then around again, relaxing some but still frowning.

"Oh. It was today? I… lost track of time.", she says, rubbing her arm and slowly walking away from any busy section of the penthouse, close to the magician she knows, taking good care not to destroy anything.

-

Warren Worthington smiles at Zatanna, "Fine, just fine," he tells her, watching her as she conjures something from her tophat of doom, "You hire out for tricks?" he asks amusedly. "By the way, are you Roberto's friend? I didn't even know he liked magic tricks. I myself like a good rabbit as much as the next guy," he comments amusedly.

-

Vorpal grins. "That's more than just a rabbit, even a white rabbit. I think that pulling a Supergirl out of one's hat qualifies one for Best Sorceress Ever."

-

It's not like going out partying is AGAINST Power Girl's modus operandi. It's just… Not usually something she does as a super hero. Or at least not lately. Back home she attended her fair share of JSA and League social events. Though a staggering number of them were interrupted part-way through by one crisis or another. It's just that she hasn't had a chance to do anything other than super heroine business as Power Girl since getting here. It was even leaking into her civilian life. Her dinner with Clark had most of its conversation matter based around everything from the attack on Titans' Tower, to encroachment from the Phantom Zone. Getting a chance to actually relax, even if in the guise of Power Girl rather than Karen Starr, is thus, a welcome respite.

Perhaps not typical, but not something she's going to complain about. Still, she is 70% sure there's going to be an attack on Gorilla City she'll have to leave to stop, or an invasion by hostile aliens, or giant plants covering Gotham, or whatever this universe's version of the Injustice League trying to steal all the gold in the world, or WHATEVER. But for now? She's just going to enjoy herself. After stepping off the elevator, the fact that PG is not quite dressed in typical super heroine costume becomes evident to the other party-goers. She was invited by Vorpal, who said it was 'semi-formal'. So Peej got a custom-made dress that was like a cross between a formal party dress and her costume.

It's a pretty awesome dress. White fabric, long, flowing skirts, with gold trim around cut-outs in the center, leaving her shoulders and arms bare. It's a bit more effort than might be expected for a party like this, and probably not suited to a clubbing scene, but she's here to socialize a bit before something blows up, and she has a spare costume in her purse. The towering blonde is probably pretty noticeable as she makes her way through the strobe-and-music-laden home-made-dance-club room.

She hears Kara's voice when the other Kryptonian speaks, and obviously recognizes her as her head turns in her direction. It'd be weird if she couldn't recognize the same voice she had when she was younger. She would hold off on heading over there, but she sees Vorpal appears to be there too. Hmm… The person who invited her, or the person hosting the party… Well, she doesn't see the host, so she'll head for Kara and Vorpal and their friend in the magician get-up, and let the host find her.

-

Nancy turns back to Bobby, her arms slipping about his waist to get close enough to whisper to him. Well, whisper in as much that the dancefloor is loud enough that the conversation is only for them. "Okay, the girl with the hat is pretty cool. I don't know anyone here other then you and tanned Bobby. Who is on your team? Should we be wearing little name tags or something?"

-

Zatanna Zatara lifts her eyes to Warren as he asks her that question. "I think…" she says. "I don't, really," Zatanna takes a moment, and kinda deepens her voice, taking on an affronted air - she was mimicking someone, even if that someone isn't readily apparent. "Magic can amaze, frighten, and even astound - but it is hardly parlour tricks," she says, putting a little extra Italian into her tone of voice.

"I've never met him, but I got the invitation, soooo…" Zatanna says. Zee's eyes track across the room, attention momentarily taken by the arrival of Karen Starr. A moment, and she blinks kinda dumbly, before turning back towards Kara.

"So um… hi! Are you okay?" she asks, kinda canting her head to one side, making certian her smile was more on the gentler side as opposed to the… well… showoffy beaming smile she tended to like. "Have you ever been to anything like this?" she asks, kinda… letting her voice trail off as Kara starts moving towards a quieter portion of the place. Biting her lower lip, Zatanna glances towards Vee, lifting her brow.

-

"Simon, the guy in all black. The guy with wings… I think he's a friend. Mike's about somewhere and I'm fairly sure that's it. I think Zatara, the girl with the hat, Flash and Vorpal, the Cat, are all with the Titans. Not sure about anyone else." Cold Bobby murmurs. Well, it passes for a murmur on the dance floor. It's loud out there. Cold Bobby isn't actually cold right now as Nancy's null field makes him quite normal and ordinary.

-

VeeerVorpal lifts his eyebrows back. He does a lot of eyebrow lifting as of late, it seems. "Maybe you should see if she's ok?"
Green eyes dart with anticipation towards the elevator as they open, but a little of that subsides when he sees it is Power Girl.

Not that Power Girl isn't awesome- he invited her here because she was totally awesome to the Titans when she came by, it is only that he was hoping…
"Power Girl!"Vorpal calls and waves a little at her to catch her attention. They were standing with their host, so… easy introductionis. "I'm so glad you could make it!"

And then a thought crosses Vorpal's mind: Please do NOT let Flash… be himself around Power Girl. Please please please please.

-

Warren Worthington smiles a bit wider as Zatanna conjures a…girl out of smoke and air, "Well, I spoke too soon, didn't I?" he says with an amused tone, "I bet you're full of surprises.". He watches Kara come into the room, "Hello Supergirl!" he says with a wave, trying to join the fanclub.

-

Bunker walks in just after Power Girl, and takes in the scene with a smile. He picks out the Cat among the crowd, and winds up standing beside him. "Hola," the masked teen says to the others in the nearby area as he stands there, casually, dark eyes flashing. "I am Bunker, and a new recruit into the Titans."

-

"Holy moley," the Flash says as he elbows Vorpal in the ribs a little too hard. "Who is that and why didn't you tell me about her?" The Flash looks back at his friend and, abruptly, slaps himself right in the face. "I'm saving her the trouble."

-

"Namuch," Roberto replies to the Flash in kind, wearing a lopsided smile as he reaches out to give him a friendly pat on the back. Vorpal gets a reluctant, abashed reply: "Yeah. That was me." It's accompanied by silent gratitude that the cat hasn't revealed the specifics of that particular fight. That particularly smelly fight.

And then Zatanna is pulling a blonde out of her hat. "Yeah, Warren, te calas. I've just discovered my favorite magic trick of all time." He talks like a cad, but he moves like a gentleman, holding up one hand to help Kara get away from the bar long enough to orient herself. "Roberto da Costa, your host. If you're looking for a quieter area, may I suggest the patio?"

Then Power Girl makes her entrance, and it's his hostly duty to greet her, as well. A burden he is only too happy to acquit. "Senhorita, welcome to my home. I see you're with the Titans? I'm Roberto da Costa. Please, help yourself to anything you see." He glances at Bunker, but let's be honest: he's got eyes mainly for the woman in the white gown at the moment. "And the same to you, sir."

-

"… good." Vorpal whispers. "Geez, I wish I could turn you gay just for one day to save—-" and then Vorpal realizes what he's saying. Wally hitting on every man in this room would not solve the prior problem of Wally hitting on every woman in this room. "Have you ever considered taking up monastic vows?" he says, patting his red-clad friend across the back.

But Bunker comes in to save the day. "Bunker! over here!" He waves and smiles. "Mr. DaCosta, this is Bunker, our newest recruit. Bunker, this is Mr. Roberto Da Costa, our gracious host…" pulling Bunker aside after the introductions, he whispers to him "I'm sorry, Miguel… Wiccan had something come up at college… he might be able to make it later. But maybe not. I'm sorry about that."

-

«Why is everything on Earth so… Earthy? Rao… This is not a party…», Kara complains to herself, approaching Zatanna. Although she smiles some to the raven-haired magician, finding some solace in her presence, especially given her bitter thoughts about Krypton moments ago, the alien still frowns an looks at Vorpal, shaking her head once.

"No. Do not call me that.", she warns him. It is a warning, not a plea, but given Kara's non-threatening looks, she might just look cute or something. Zatanna will know what's up, however, even if the blodne doesn't dwell on the monicker and turns back to Zee, and then quickly at Warren.

"Do. NOT. Call me that…", she says angrily, then looking at Zatanna, nostrils flaring. "I am fine. I am fine right now.", she admits, always looking around, as if expecting missiles or ninjas to show up anytime now. Unlike Karen, she is not cynical about it, just very wary. Angry. Ready to fight right back. She places herself shoulder to shoulder to Zatanna, her safe zone right now.

To Roberto she just stares for a moment, and then does a fancy Kryptonian salutation, using her cape. She does not smile, as she does not trust him, but it is polite to thank the host. And then Karen comes in, and Kara… just looks, and then looks at the sides, folding her arms around her protectively.

She may feel like a goddess when lasering robots in half, but some people in this planet… really make her feel just like a stupid teenager. "Who is she?", she asks Zee.

-

Giving Bobby a kiss on his cheek, Nancy murmurs in his ear. "Okay, so maybe we should stop being antisocial and get off the dance floor to meet the others? Or would you rather just let Berto schmooze while you and I just enjoy ourselves and make ourselves totally aloof?"

-

"Honestly, the latter…" Cold Bobby grins. "Buuuuut this is a mixer. How about we go back and say hi?" He takes Nancy by the hand and starts leading her back. "Plenty of time later to just enjoy the ambiance. Besides, potential new friends are always a plus. And someone needs to make sure Tipsy Bobby doesn't get himself kicked into the Hudson. Those two blodes look like they can handle themselves pretty well."

-

The Flash shakes his head, "I haven't. Promise I'll be on my best behavior. Look, she's already gettin' snagged by the dark haired dude. Always the ones with money, brother. They're always after the ones with money. Mechanics from the midwest just can't compete these days. It's a new economy."

-

Warren Worthington whaps Roberto on the arm in a friendly way for suggesting Kara leave the party to go out on the lonely patio. He holds his hands up as if under arrest, "Sorry about that," he notes awkwardly. He rubs the back of his neck and sighs.

-

Bunker flashes a smile at Bobby. "It is an honor to meet some of the world-famous X-Men," the youth says, his enthusiasm obviously genuine. He follows some of the gazes to Power Girl, and gives her a smile and nod as well - he's seen video of her in action, but of course never been this close. The news from Vorpal dims his spirits for a second, but then he gives a quick cant of the head. "I'm sure he'll be fine," he says quietly.

-

Made it! Kate practically skids into the party, still adjusting her purple cocktail dress as she steps into the room to find…a whole crowd of people, some of whom she knows and some of whom are utterly unfamiliar. Which has never bothered her in the least. Just act like you belong, right? Who looks familiar…Vorpal! Raising two fingers to her lips, she lets out a brief whistle, then raises her hand with a grin. "Vorp!" she calls over, waving.

-

"I am sorry, I didn't mean to offend," Vorpal says to Kara. "Please forgive me."

He smirks and looks at Wally. "Amen to that, brother. Amen to that."

He puts an arm around Bunker's shoulder. "Tell you what, I'll dance with you. Since I've got a sprained ankle, we'll just have to make every dance the Bunny Hop."

Ears twitch at a whistle, he looks over his shoulder and grins. "Cinderella, you made it after all!" he says to Kate. "Come over, let me introduce you to everybody in the world!"

-

As Nancy is led over towards the bar: "I swear, if you want me to play diplomat tonight, you so owe me a foot massage, Robert Drake. Berto can take a toss into the Hudson." She waggles her fingers in hello. "So, what trouble are we getting into over here?"

-

"She's not…" Zatanna pauses a moment, finding her virgin(?) drink again, and taking a sip. A handful of moments, and the raven-haired magicienne looks vaguely mollified when Vorpal apologizes. The assertion that Kara is fine? Zatanna lets her eyes linger in her direction a handful of moments, before a corner of her lip pulls up in a confident sort of smirk.

Zatanna takes her eyes off of Kara. "You don't have to worry. I know we haven't had the best luck with things, but someone would have to be really really stupid to attack here, so you can try to relax - you know, meet with, and chat with people?" asks Zee.

Another sip of her drink. "Like Vorpal - he's one of the most amazing people on this planet!" she calls out, kinda giving Warren a little bit of a look. As for who /that/ was?

Zatanna turns her eyes towards Power Girl herself. "I don't know who that is, but I think… that's one of the prettiest dresses I have seen."

-

Power Girl arrives at the bar and nods to Vorpal with a smile. "So am I. I needed a break, even if only a short one. Thanks for inviting me." She looks to the discomfitted Kara. They met while dealing with that UFO, and Kara seemed enthused about the existence of another Kryptonian at the time, but they'd had to part ways due to Kara already having arrangements with someone else. She had been hoping to run into her younger self again, and Superman was also very excited to see her as well, so it's convenient that they should both be attending the same party. Even if one of them seems to be attending thanks to magic. But Kara seems so… Uncomfortable here. It really reminds Power Girl of her own difficulties adjusting to Earth. Though she was a bit older when she arrived, and may have taken it slightly better. New Titans member Bunker, magician girl Zatanna (she is assuming that's her name based off of superhearing at least), some kind of winged person, the Flash, and the host. Possibly more people arriving all the time.

Older-Kara grins briefly at Wally, seeming unoffended (she's used to it), before focusing on Roberto. "Yes, I'm Power Girl. I'm here on invitation from a Titans member. Thank you for holding this party!" She overhears Kara's inquiry about 'who she is', of course, because she's like, right there and superhearing. But if Kara has a question for PG herself, she can ask it directly. She's not going to make an uncomfortable situation even more so. Maybe Kara just wants to know more about who exactly the individual known as 'Power Girl' is, aside from 'She's a Kryptonian'. Not all Kryptonians are nice people, after all.

She does offer a friendly smile to Kara and Zatanna, however, as she says, "Nice to see you again, Kara. A friend of yours?" She holds out a hand to Zatanna.

-

When Mike came in he noted that he needed to check on the computer. The computer was not happy. The computer had a huge backlog of data, a sort of cramp-inducing buildup, and Mike has just found out far more than he wanted to about locations in the Middle East. Someone… unplugged… a network hose.

Mike Drakos returns to the party, and because robots have to LOOK cool by their very nature he IS cool, but he is very uncomfortable, and he seeks out Cold Bobby … "Man. Give me a cool-off. I'm running at 200C inside," he begs. He's almost too tired to notice that there are two not-identical-but-should-be Kryptonian women, and a LOT more people here. He'll find out soon though.

-

Roberto is about to greet the newest arrivals when a sudden, palpable shock courses through the building, and every light source cuts out except for the gibbous moon outside(...)
