For the most part Jericho avoids Gotham. This is for the most part doubly true when he's slowly cracking due to the lack of ability to mentally and emotionally recover from stress. Gotham is nothing if not generally stressful. Sadly there are some things that won't wait. K'tten had called him up about signals in Gotham similar to those detected earlier in Metropolis and he figured it probably couldn't wait. Whatever that device was it was advanced enough to be baffling K'tten and Orn and certainly could affect people's minds which placed the new signals as sort of top priority. Even over slowly going insane.

Rooftops are good, in Gotham though. He leaps from one to the other with a flash of dark amber, feathered wings. Mostly that's all anyone sees - a flash of feathered wings. Jeri's too focused on his HUD to realize that there may be things either above or below that might be on the lookout for various reasons for feathers, and not at all appreciate them.

-

It's a shame when the worlds beyond actually heard about Gotham, if not for the worlds greatest detective; but for the darkness and the moodiness that it so happens to bring out in people that seemingly visit. Shayera was no different, searching for leads that led her to the dark place by way of air. Ship remained in the ocean where it needed to be; com's still down, her people have yet to attune their frequencies to that of earth. She could get glimpses, but that was it. Nothing more, nothing less. She was on her own.

The shock of wings manage to catch her attention, her head lowering as she flies above the man, watching as he leaps from building to building and soon.. he too is being followed. Her hand immediately gripping her mace to retrieve it from it's holster, springing it to life with just a flick and touch of the handle, electricity static from the Nth metal which would be used to disable.

-

Midnighter is neither above nor below. He's on a roof that provides a good view of the street below and several others nearby as well. And when he hears the sound of someone heading in his direction, he turns while Jericho is still a building away. And he waits.

-

Rain only goes to Gotham when she's called by a client. Today is one of those days. She's riding her broomstick, with her cat in a trenchcoat wearing goggles just behind her on the broomstick. It's such a stereotype. But it works. She has a bandana and goggles on herself. She's keeping to the skies, and the darker shadows so no one spots a woman flying through the air on a broomstick. But then, there's a shock of wings. Her path veers a bit. "I hope they're okay," She offers to captain.

The orange tabby behind her sighs, and offers in a baritone tinged with a Gotham accent, "Well, if it's a big bird…" He's so gonna try to eat it.

-

It's a day for rooftops, it seems. While not having the acrobatic powers of the Cait Sidhe anymore, Keith has been cooped up for days in the apartment and has been going stir crazy.

Taking advantage of the fact that Gar, despite taking time off his classes to stay with him, has to deal with the legalese of the base opurchase, Keith gets up to the rooftop of his own apartment and… well, he's not exactly leaping over the rooftops, but he does go from one to the other where there is a feasible path.

Perhaps he might even attract the attention of his 'Other Half'… there had been no news of the creature ever since their separation, and that unnerves him.

-

Jericho, unaware of the hell Keith's been going through - indeed unaware of the supernatural happenings in Gotham in General - crouches on a rooftop not far from Keith, his wings glimmering as he rises. A pair of large knives are hanging off of his belt and he has a sidearm though he's hoping not to use either just yet. He needs to get with Illyana and get that blade made. Ugh.

Okay, the signals are close. Time to do a little technical trickery. The hacker opens a messenger bag and pulls out what looks remarkably like a raven. It's actually a sophisticated drone disguised as a bird. Party favor he picked up from the last Hydra facility he raided. Relasing it to home in on the signals, he has no idea who is watching him. Nor indeed what poor Keith will think when a red eyed Raven begins - purely by chance - cirlcing his location.

-

Shayera didn't land, she remained close enough to be seen in the night, but far away enough to not be heard, lest the people who inhabit this Terra have ears far better than hers. Behind her helmet, there was a furrow of her brow, her mace slowly drawn back and clicked off, the electricity dying down to hide the light.

"Just what is he doing.." She murmurs to herself, wings flapping slowly to draw her back a few feet, spying the heavy artilery (or what she considers heavy) upon the man and the thing that was deployed into the air.

Shifty beans, it was.

Shayera wasn't a bad person, even though something told her to -not- interfere with whatever the man had going on, she gave an oath to serve and protect, and that's just what she does.

*BOOM!*

She takes off in the best speed she knows how, wings extended, mace drawn back and swung forward towards the raven once she nears the mark. She aims to destroy the bird; whether it a means of magic or mechanical or real. She saw it as a threat that could quietly be taken care of with no fanfare to spare.

Glowing. Increased electrical activity. Midnight slips intot he shadows and crosses the roof toward the one Jericho stopped on. From across the alley, he watches the activation of the drone. Definitely not a common toy; government agent perhaps or some other organization with advanced tech. When someone/thing swoops in to attack the drone, he just cocks his head slightly and watches curiously. Gotham is never boring.

-

Rain doesn't know much about what's happening. Nor does she have wings. But she does have a broomstick, a cat and a sense of curiousity. It kills witches and cats, likely. She's spotted a few - odd things, and is that a - huh. Ravens aren't nocturnal, are they? She's going to bring herself around to bear and try to find it. "Mmm, two birds." Captain is practically drooling.

-

Inconvenient Thing #25 about not being a cat anymore: No more super-acute hearing. He stops in his tracks when the black bird begins to circle him, with its red eyes.

Could this be a sign? No, the Cait couldn't shapeshift. Was this an emissary of the druids, then, with their control of animals? He reaches into his pocket to throw his phone at the meddling Raven when a sound-

And the Bird Woman Of Doom is swooping down towards him!

(Well, not really. Towards the Raven, but under present circumstances, he could be forgiven for thinking that Shayera was coming for him…)

"Ah! Gitbackyou—!" the phone flies, not at the Raven, but towards Shayera as Keith falls back, trying to put some distance between the swooping mace-wielding birdwoman…

-

The sudden arrival of a mace wielding birdwoman certainly has Jericho's attention. The bit where the raven explodes in a shower of sparks (all over poor Keith) Also has it. Hostile? Mutant perhaps? Or some kind of Hydra or alien harbinger? He leaps to the building landing behind Keith with knives drawn, but the birdwoman just snatches the phone out of the air and keeps going. "The Hell…?" He's still walking forward as he tracks her departure. Of course this just leaves Keith (with Rain and Midnighter watching) being advaned on from behind by a glowy winged man with big knives…

-

Midnighter knows that voice. But what is Vorpal doing on the roof tops when he's been deVorpaled? From the look of it, about to be attacked by the person who sent the drone to find him. As the winged female swoops off, he leaps across the alley to land quietly on the other roof. "It would not be wise to attack him." he states.

-

Wait, is that - It's Keith! And there's a glowy winged man and a lady who takes off. Rain looks concerned beneath the bandana over her mouth. Sadly, she doesn't have her electronics on her. She only has her eyes, ears and a cat with her. And she's noticed poor Keith is swinging his phone at someone. A wince. Nevertheless, Rain is heading towards the catless cat man. "Hey! Are you alright?" She moves to land next to Keith, worried. Captain hops off the broom in turn. And wince. Sparks.

-

"HEY! That's my- come back here you… you… winged phone thief!" Keith calls after the woman rather furiously, "I'll-"

And then Rain lands next to him, startling him a little as he was focusing on hating on the Hawk Woman. "Rain? What are you doing here? Actually, where have you been? I haven't-"

And Midnighter lands, and seems to be speaking to someone behind him. Behind him? "Attack whom?"

He turns around and gets a good look at the glowing besworded spiky man and grabs Rain's arm, "Ohshi— Rain let's step back from this fine gentleman who looks like he wants to murderate us all." He says, tug-tug-tugging and almost running with Rain. It isn't that Keith's a coward, far from it, but he is now a depowered individual without any weapons on him at the moment (not even his phone), so Unknown Winged Sword Man is clearly at an advantage.

-

Let's be honest here. Midnighter (and Keith and maybe Rain) are totally justified in thinking that Jericho has hostile intent. Aside from being a glowy-winged man with circuit like traces shining through his shirt, he's got creepy glowing amber eyes and he's holding large knives in each hand. The picture of good vibes he is not. Not in the least.

Midnighter's warning does at least draw him up short, but he seems a bit suspicious. Before the drone went down it'd been circling Keith (well, more accurately the building he's on) so he's not sure if there's a connection between the sudden welcome wagon and the strange mind altering tech he's trying to find.

"Why would I attack him?" Beat. "Has he done something I should be concerned about?" There are ways to deliver that question disarmingly. Coming from a guy whose got knives and is staring at you and your friends, it probably just sounds ominous and creepy. Meanwhile those glowy orbs dart back and forth looking for something only he can see.

-

"Once you put the blades away and shut down your implants then we can discuss it." For now, Midnighter's ignoring the witch on the broomstick since the redhead previously known as Vorpal seems to know her. Stepping down off the ledge, he walks toward Keith on a course that will circle around Jericho.

-

What the - Rain's danger sense is a little off, it seems. "I've been working, mostly." She admits with a wry smile. "Uhm, wha-" Rain lets herself get tugged a bit. "It's okay, I can turn him into a newt if he gets out of hand." She offers. She's attempting to be reassuring. "And I can eat the newt," Captain offers. Sage crime fighting team, this one. Rain winces. "Ew, Captain, no."

The cat sighs. Rain doesn't seem terribly ruffled about being ignored. She's not sure what to make of the glowy man. But she looks to him. "Well, er. We were concerned about the bird thing." Rain explains, making a circle. "And the knife thing." Yes. "The glowing is a bit unusual, but I am not about to discriminate against Glowing-Americans. Still…"

-

"We need to talk, there's been some developments… ideally we can talk when we're not in the middle of some Menace-a-trois…" Keith mutters, he gives a rather seething glare at the glowing man. "I'm. Right. Here, you know. Stop talking as if I weren't in the room— Rooftop!"

There were some personality traits that weren't the exclusivity of the Cait Sidhe.

-

Jericho fixes Keith with that glowy eyed glare and slowly slides the blades away before holding his hands palms up in a gesture of nonaggression if not peace. "Alright, easy there." Somehting about Midnighter's gaze, his movement tells the hacker that he's not dealing with an ametuer here. Far, far from it. Best not to antagonize him if it can be avoided. The wings stay out though, in case he needs to make an exit which means he still kind of looks like a bird.

"Well? Have you done something I should be worried about? Like messed around with mind altering future-tech?"

-

"Is that what you're looking for?" Midnighter asks, keeping his gaze on Jericho as he makes his way around the man to put himself between him and Keith. "Retrieval mission? He's not involved; he doesn't do tech. Right?" That's directed to Keith though he doesn't look at him. "And from the broom, I'd guess neither does your friend."

-

Rain is quiet through this exchange. She looks worried about Keith. Captain peers around from behind Rain. "I don't really do much tech. I am an engineer but …" She waves a hand. "I mean, I DO do tech but nothing here," She explains. "Still, this fellow is a friend of ours and we don't want him to get hurt," She explains. "And uh, the broom is my transport. One form, anyway," She offers to Midnighter.

-

And… that was too much excitement for one in his weakened condition. Keith takes a few steps back when he sees the glowing man raise his hands in non-aggression. "Don't do tech." His phone was old enough, after all, to be considered an upgrade if you happened to have two cans connected by a bit of string. The young man, feeling weak, sits on the edge of the roof and watches the interaction. He'd take his leave, but he'd rather make sure Rain is not in danger from this glowing-American.

And he totally needs to talk to her later, too.

-

Jericho thinks for a moment and then seems to accept that. "Alright. Sorry for the scare. I'm called Aspect and there's something here that's, er, not quite right." He pauses for a moment to refine his tracking readings. "In the building below us. Do either of you know if there are any crawlspaces or unoccupied appartments?" Talking cat… mmmm… maybe talking cat could go looking?

Maybe not.

-

"All right Aspect. Now that's cleared up, why don't you tell us more about what you're looking for an why." Midnighter's not really making a suggestion. "Otherwise, we just might think you were a thief and had no actual right to this tech you're looking for. And then we'd be obligated to stop you and that can get so messy."

-

Rain is quiet for a moment. "If you're sure." Rain looks to Keith, and lets him go. Thogh, there's a concerned look across her face. "I go by Rain," She replies. "I work as a healer and occult detective." She smiles politely. "And uhm. Not sure. Captain could take a look." Then the cat puffs up. "What? Hey! Do I look like-" Rain pauses. "I'll buy you a salmon." Captain holds up a paw, "TWO salmon."

"Okay, fine." The two wait though, to make sure Midnighter vests the man.

-

Talking cat is negociating with a broom riding witch. Jericho deals with demons but there are some things outside his normal experience. He stares for a moment before answering Midnighter. "Er, well, I don't have a right to it per se. It's not mine. Let me… explain…" As he says this he raises an arm up and projects the image of a cylindrical device that looks kind of like R2-D2 without the wheels.

A friend of mine and I found one of these hidden in a shop in Metropolis. It was broadcasting a signal similar to some alien technology I've encountered before." To wit, similar to the stuff on Starfire's ship, but not identical. "And when we got close it tried to convince us that it wasn't there with some kind of… mental defense field? Not sure what it was. The shop owners had no idea it was there. Not sure it's nefarious but that kind of thing is way beyond anything I know that anyone here has and it's certainly mysterious. I've been trying to recover samples for analysis… and lock them away in case they are dangerous."

-

Midnighter flicks a quick glance at Rain and the talking cat. He's seen stranger thing. He /is/ stranger things when you get right down to it. Science can do amazing things. Perhaps even magic too since the cat seems to accompany a witch. "That kind of thing doesn't ring any bells." he answers after a moment's thought. "Who are you working for?"

-

Rain is quiet. She looks curiously at Jericho and listens. She furrows her brows. The two listen, for now. "A signal? How strange. I wonder if someone is watching."

-

Aspect shakes his head. "That's what I'm worried about, Miss. Who and why. I'm not working for anyone. I've been known to work with people on occasion, and definitely against the likes of HYDRA…" Who would probably love this. He's not sure still if it's theirs or not. Seems like the sort of thing the might do, but it's reaaaaaly advanced.

"But in honesty I operate as a free agent."

-

Midnighter nods then looks from Aspect to Rain. "Then lets see if we can find it. Are you willing to go scout?" he asks the cat, treating it no differently than if it were a person. "What would it be looking for?" he asks Aspect.

-

The cat looks to Midnighter, seeming grateful he's being treated evenly. "Oh yeah. I got two salmon on the line," He quirks a grin as best as a feline can. "A slight invisibility spell and being a cat… no problem," He grunts. His voice is a deep, rich baritone tinged with a Gotham accent. Rain nods. "I see." She goes quiet, then.

-

"He'd be looking for probably something that looks like an oversized ashcan with lots of blinky lights. It may or may not have a 'don't look at me' field. Dunno if that'd work on cats." Jericho frowns. "Last time it was hidden in a drop tile ceiling, so it'll probably be placed out of the way of anything obvious. And it's definitely close. Somewhere within twenty yards or so." He'd thought it might have been on Keith at the moment, but no it had not been.

"So what brings an Occult Investigator and er… you… out here?" Midnighter has after all not properly been introdued.

-

"Call me the Midnighter." he answers, giving the cat a nod to send him off. "I was just looking for something to occupy the evening." Translation: criminals to beat up and/or put down. "This seems like it could fit the bill. And if we find something, I know a place to analyze it and keep it safe."

-

Rain listens. She inclines her head. "Hm, I see." She frowns faintly. The cat looks thoughtful. "We were on a case. Someone had some imps bothering 'em. I tell ya, minor summoners think they're hot stuff until they have to deal with the real thing," He sighs faintly. "Nice to meet you," He replies to the Midnighter. "It's our pleasure," Rain offers. "I'm Captain, that's Rain. She goes by Rain, anyway." Rain is ashamed of her real name.

"Alright," The two nod. Captain is the one speaking, mind. "Here we go." He'll start padding along, shimmering as he goes. Rain looks a little zoned, weaving some magic around her cat so he's not entirely visible. She doesn't want her familiar and friend going splat, after all. Captain commences scouting in the appropriate direction.

-

Given that K'tten and Orn already have one to analyize, having another set of eyes and minds on these things strikes Jericho as an extremely good idea. "Alright then Midnighter." Hey, he may be a masked vigilante type, but he's being a lot more reasonable than the last couple Jericho ran into.

It doesn't take Captain long at all to find exactly what Jericho described. Tucked away in the corner of an unsued apartment. "That makes two. I wonder how many of these damn things are out there…" He shakes his head.

"Well I'll leave it to you two then. Careful with that. I still don't know who's behind it." And with a wave and a salute, the glowy winged man launches skyward and heads back north toward New York.

-

Watching Aspect fly off, Midnighter reaches up to activate his comm. "Midnighter. No, I don't need the FBI again. Send a recovery team to my location. Unknown tech. The boys in the lab will have some fun figuring it out." He ends the conversation without any pleasantries then looks back to Rain. "Tell him thanks. I'll wait for them to come get it."

-

Rain watches Aspect. "Bye! It was nice to meet you!" She waves after glowing, flying winged man. He seemed nice. "Sure thing. Probably best not to get one's hands all over the stuff. I'll tell him you said thanks, too." She nods. She won't bother Midnighter, waving at him in turn. She waits for Captain to get back, make his report and scoops her cat up. The two will hop onto her broomstick and fly off into the night.
