Jericho managed to snag a chair and a pillow. He had stayed awake for some time but, exhausted as he was, some sleep was inevitable. This time he doesn't have nightmares at least. It's only a couple of hours though before he's up again. He promised he wouldn't touch any of the local systems, or really… er, anything. And he doesn't want to. Instead he takes up his time grabbing a few reports from spy-programs he has scattered around the 'net. And watching Illyana sleep, of course. He's concerned. What exactly backlashed to knock her out he's not sure but he's never seen her do that before.

Granted she did spend enough of herself to drain her twice… which… he'd also never seen her do before. Belasco's words echo in his mind. He's not bothered by them for himself but the demon-lord knows Illyana quite well and he can't help but think they were chosen with careful purpose.

-

Piotr was in some rough physical shape when they came in. Maybe being linked to a castle that was getting attacked had a physical side effect. But Illyana herself looked mostly fine. Some cuts and scrapes and bruises from cutting their way through demons and then the two falls via stepping disk but otherwise she seems OK. More than that, even with her having drawn on so much of the magic stored in him, he can still *sense* that she's alright, if drained.

It's hours before she wakes up, and when she does it's with the start of waking up somewhere she doesn't recognize. Given how rarely she sleeps, and that she doesn't like to do so where others can witness her nightmares, the reaction isn't surprising. But Xavier's medbay is somewhere she knows, and so the panic doesn't last long.

-

Jericho reaches over to take Illyana's hand. "Hey…" He says. It's quiet and doesn't quite have the exhausted edge his voice has carried for the last couple of weeks. He doesn't bother explaining where they are. He can see now and perhaps sense a bit that she knows as she calms. And despite his ability to somehow feel she's alright, he has to ask: "How do you feel?"

The pillow is on the floor beside him, the chair had been propped back. Clearly he's been here for some hours. Illyana probably knows Jericho well enough to figure that he's been here since she was brought it. It's the sort of thing he'd do, certainly.

-

Illyana's hand closes around his and she lets out a slow exhale. "Kitty got us out?" Her voice is a bit rough and she licks her lips to moisten her lips. She rolls her head to look over at him. "That depends. We get it back?" She asks, blue eyes intent as she looks at him like she can see inside him. He can feel the flutter of something within, as though she were stroking fingers along the inside of his skin.

-

"I think so." Jericho murmurs quitly, half closing his eyes and looking down for a moment at the sensation before bringing them back up. "I slept okay, well, was worried about you but slept okay otherwise." He's still tired. He's been through a lot and it's possible that there's permanent damage to him. Scars, if you will. Time will tell on that one. But he's not Exhausted and Strained the way he has been.

"Yeah, Kitty got us back. I was going to get your brother and you back to our place but… Kitty seemed worried and I didn't want to just take you two away."

-

Illyana's eyes slip closed a moment tiredly as she listens, and then trails her free hand over his that holds her other one. "I can't check for sure right now, too tapped out. But if you could sleep, I think we're good. I'll check though." Later. In case Belasco did something else.

Illyana musters her energy then to sit up so she can look over to where Piotr lies, looking worried. Not just for his condition, but because he's here and the Brotherhood and the X-Men have bad blood. "Has he woken up at all?" She doesn't let go of his hand, keeping that link between them.

-

Always possible when dealing with Belasco. He leaves out the fact that Belasco and Cat got away. Jericho's already concerned that he has some other layer to this plan. Well, not so much concered that he does as concerned about what it is. He most assuredly does. Belasco's a chess player and no mistake.

"No, he hasn't. Not while I've been awake anyway. Med staff said he's stable, physically, and that's really all they can check." Who knows how long Piotr had been prisoner or what else had been done to him. Indeed part of the reason Jericho had wanted to stay - quite aside from being flatly unwilling to leave Illyana while she was down - was in case Piotr woke up and… wasn't himself.

-

Concern slides through Illyana's eyes, turning the blue dark with emotion. She lets out a quiet sigh of worry. "I should have known he'd go after people I cared about. But what can I do besides warn them?" Magic is rather out of the realm of most of their expertise and so defending against it is even more difficult.

Illyana looks over to Jericho then, and forces a wan smile. "Were you sleeping on the floor?" She chides him, already fairly sure he wouldn't have left her side. The smile flickers a bit as Belasco's words come back to her. Did he not leave becasue that's what he wanted? Or because what she did to him made him want that?

-

"No…" Jericho says with a smile. "I slept on the chair. The pillow was just getting in the way when I woke up." He can see her expression falter a bit and his thumb starts to sweep over the back of her hand gently. Those amber eyes glimmer a little as he watches her silently for a few mintues.

"Hey… what is it?"

-

Illyana's eyes narrow a bit, her smirk sort of barely-there. "You're entirely too observant." She complains, trying to lighten the mood. It doesn't help particularly much. She lets out a soft sigh. "Just… worried. About the effects from what I've done to you. I know, I know. You're fine with them. But maybe you don't have a choice about that anymore." He was always too trusting of her.

-

Jericho smiles a little, keeping that slow sweep of his thumb across the back of her hand. "Worried that you've changed me…" He says quietly. "Maybe that I'm only doing what you like because you want me to do it?"

It's a good question and knowing what Belasco did to Cat and the other X-Men… he can kind of understand it. "Do you think I'd have done it before you bound me?" The question is again, soft, quiet. He's fairly confident of the answer.

Is she?

-

Illyana's eyes are still dark with emotion, but she meets his without flinching. Her sigh is a quiet thing. "Yes." She admits. "But maybe you'd change your mind after a while. Now… can you?" The question is rhetorical, and almost seems like an apology.

-

Jericho shrugs a little. Can he? He's not sure. He is sure that the Illyana he knows and trusts is someone he'd gladly trust that power to. "The fact that you worry about it…" He murmurs. "Tells me that it's okay if I can't. Don't let his words get to you. I know he meant them to hurt you and I want you to know that I don't fear that from you." If it were to happen, he'd still trust her, and would have when he still had a choice, if that turns out to be how it is.

"Remember that I chose this."

-

Illyana gives Jericho a Look. "No you didn't. S'ym and K'nert tricked you and backed me into it." She reminds. And yet she knows the only reason he didn't choose it was because she didn't want to do that to him. Mostly because she wanted to so badly. It's a bad sign, when you know you shouldn't do something by how much you want to do them. She gives a soft huff of non-amusement. "You accept it way too easy. That you might not really have a choice anymore."

-

"Were it anyone else, believe me this'd be a problem. I don't even know I'd take it this well for Nancy or Partisan." Jericho admits. Illyana's different. He'd say she's always been but the truth is there was a time when she was just an annoyance. It'd been a while before she was anything else to him, right around the time they took ice cream together and she asked for his help. Even so she'd been an ally, then a friend. The progression had been slow, but even as he'd earned his trust she's earned his and she's never given him cause to regret it.

"I accept it because it's you. If it's true that I don't have a choice, it's okay because I trust you." His eyes gleam to accent that.

-

It's there, the quick reply. The argument. He can see it in her eyes. But she also knows him, and they've done this dance before. His trust in her is big, scary stuff. Trust enough to give away the rest of his choices, ever. Maybe it's not true, but the only way to test it would be to break that trust. And so she bites back the argument, dipping her head to press her lips against their clasped hands, her breath quiet and shuddery.

-

Jericho scoots a little closer. When her lips leave his hand he lets go of hers and loops his arm around her shoulder laying his head close. "I'm glad you made it out. Had me worried for a bit." He whispers, his voice a little rough with emotion only now getting released. Illyana gets a squeeze and he plants a kiss atop her head. "You put a lot of power out in that one." Implied: How is that going to affect you? There are a lot of other questions, that should probably wait. What to do about Belasco and Cat. What to do about S'ym. Right now Jericho just wants assurance that this won't cost her too dear.

-

"I don't normally have to hit my own reserves unless I'm doing magic on Earth and well, I can't do big effects." Illyana admits, shifting so she can try to settle in against him. Which isn't easy given the med bed and all that. She would probably be much more comfortable if she just took them home, but she doesn't want to leave Piotr alone.

"But it took the blood-link Piotr and I have to be able to bring down the Wards that were powered off of him. And then I needed something quick and dirty to break his link to the citadel…" She winces then, remembering where she got that power from. "Sorry."

-

"I'm okay…" Jericho says with a small perhaps slightly pained smile. It'd hurt of course. Not as badly as if it'd been someone else but still hurt, quite a bit. He's also bleeding life force and… whatever else comes off that. A bit. Not as badly as he had been after Greenland but the effect is very much like wrapping someone's arm in duct tape and then ripping it off.

"You're safe, you got your brother back. That's what matters."

-

"AND we got you back." Illyana says, fixing him with her gaze. "That was the original objective. I'm sure you weren't going to believe Belasco that I was choosing Piotr over you but… Kitty and Logan were on it. And I… trusted them to do the job." Even if trust comes hard to her. There's probably only a handful of people she would have trusted that much. Luckily Kitty's one of them. "Looks like it didn't hurt as bad as last time at least?" Small victories.

-

"I'm sure he meant for you to have to make that choice." Jericho chuckles a bit wryly, canting his head to get a better look at her. His eyes are slowly… simmering is the best word, the amber in them almost appearing molten as the light flickers behind them. "I think you outdid him on that one. And no, it wasn't as bad this time. I didn't fight you. Fought the other one, even if I didn't know what I was doing." When he lets it go it goes easier. Even if it never goes without some pain.

Honestly if Illyana had to choose and chose Piotr, Jericho would have understood. Helped even. Fortunately for him Illyana also chose to trust Logan and Kitty and they didn't let her - or him - down.

-

Illyana's frustration eventually gets the better of her and she scoots over a bit and tugs on him. It's just not terribly easy to cuddle someone who's not in bed with you. "Get in here. I'm still tired and you're too far away."

-

Jericho chuckles low and clambers up next to her, looping his arm now around her waist and tugging her close. Medical beds aren't made for two as a rule, but since being close is rather the point he doesn't mind this in the least. As it applies to Illyana, he really never does mind being quite close these days.

The blonde sorceress gets another kiss and a squeeze. "How's that?" He murmurs.

-

Illyana curls up against Jericho, tangling her limbs with his and using him as much as the bed to lie on. "Better. Infinately better." She says, closing her eyes as she lays her head on his shoulder. "I'll just catch… a little nap…"

-

Once Illyana is settled Jericho's free hand cups the back of her head, cradling her against him as she uses him as part bed, part pillow. In his opinion - not that anyone asked - this is infinitely better as well. "You do that. I'm not going anywhere." He murmurs before adding with a soft smile. "Ever."
