Rowan showed up at three thirty AM. Normal, decent people are not up at this hour. Soldiers are, though and the Blue is nothing if not a soldier. And a good one. He'd taken a run, done his fitness routine and then come on down to the clocktower to pick up Babs and take her to a discrete location for the morning's 'main event'.

-

At 3.30am most normal people would still be in bed asleep but Babs is dressed and waiting out the front of the Clocktower. You would think she's been up all night or something. As Rowan arrives, she smiles "Good morning, you're looking awfully awake for this time of day" Today, she's pulled her hair back into a high ponytail and she's wearing a warm jacket over her clothing.

-

"I'm used to being up this time of day." The Blue smiles. He's got a car suited exactly to carry Babs and her wheelchair. And he even shows some faculty for driving. The route he takes is toward the coast and there's no traffic this time of day. Thank goodness.

-

"Soldiers hours?" Babs asks as they drive along the road. "So tell me Rowan, how does a dimensional displaced warrior learn how to drive?" Her eyes closed and her left arm is on the centre console between the seats, Babs is quite relaxed and appears to be nearly dozing.

-

"Funny story that… sometime's we'd steal enemy vehicles for quick escapes or to disguise scouting forays… they worked a lot like this. Who'd have thought." Makes sense to the Blue given that they're likely based on the same tech."

-

It may, or may not, surprise Rowan that Babs has nearly dozed off in the minutes till now. Enforced inaction and the fact that she feels safe means she take those minutes for herself to doze. "Mmmmmhmmmm" she mumbles as he speaks.

-

He glances over with a smile. It's another twenty minutes until they park at a deserted beach parking lot. The car lurches to a halt. "We're here." He says softly before getting up to open her door.

-

As the car stops, Babs comes fully awake. Rowans words are heard and she starts to unbuckle her seatbeat, waiting patiently to find out what to do next.

-

Rowan considers for a moment. Might be easiest if he just lets her… climb on from the car. His form starts to warp and in moments there's a thirty foot long lizard next to the car only… grey and no wings. Different from what Babs has seen on monitors before, to be sure.

-

Babs is up for new experiences… but this stretches the boundaries. Not the Dragon, but exiting the car to dragon, well lizard at the moment, back. He's transformed close enough to the car that she can use her arms to position herself on the saddle he's formed. Settling herself as best she can, Babs says softly "Alright, Rowan, let's do this."

-

Rowan looks over his shoulder at her and grins. "This may feel odd. I've never called an element to me with someone on me…" His eyes close and the air goes cold for a moment. There seems to be a wind rushing into him. His scales redden, horns burst from his head. His already serpentine form becomes a bit more feline and delicate. And six colorful feathered wings burst from his back.

"Aaaaah… Air. Hang on Babs…" And with that Rowan leaps skyward, pulling up, up, up above the city, the lights of still twinkling in the darkness before the dawn.

-

Babs feels the energy flow into Rowan and starts as the wings appear behind her. "Odd… never mind me… you seem to be enjoying that" and they're skyward bound and Babs holds on tight for seconds as they head upwards to the stars.

-

It's chilly where Rowan finally levels off. Good thing Babs dressed warm. Up here, above the low air traffic and cameras the city is laid out before them, still glimmering with light. It's peaceful from up here. The hubub and din of the streets and squalor of the worst districts is lost and muted by distance and the twinkling light below them. Rowan soars like an eagle, gliding and occasionally flapping to keep his altitude.

-

Soaring, so high above the city, perched on Rowans back, Babs feels… free. It's a beautiful vision, the lights without the mess and noise that is the city. Babs just… feels the whole experience. No words are necessary.

-

Rowan slowly circles, first out toward the bay and then back inland, doing a slow perimeter tour of the whole city. He's silent for a time too. The only noise is the wind and the flapping of his six wings. "It's lovely from up here." He says finally. "So many lights, so many people. So different than on the ground."

-

Taking her time, Babs finally answers. "It is different… it's very pretty… and to share it with you Rowan…" she falls silent, what can she say…. "Can you take me over the Clocktower? or is that too close to the city?"

-

"Not at all…" Rowan angles downward, diving a bit, though not too much. The city rolls beneath them until they're near the downtown district. "That's it down there isn't it… looks… small from up here. Different." And you can't see the clock, though if he angled right they probably could.

-

"It's just beautiful, Rowan… so peaceful even if I can't see the clockfaces." Babs is really enjoying herself "Is there somewhere you wanted to see, Rowan?"

-

Rowan starts to circle a bit lower to give Babs a view of the clock faces. "Not in particular. I don't know the city well enough. How about you? Any other places you wanted a look at from up here?"

-

The clockfaces come into view and Babs smiles. "How beautiful is that view, Rowan…. that's where I work." To his question, Babs answer quickly "Sandy Hook" Babs says without hesitation "Show me where my Dad lives… please."

-

The dragon banks out toward the coastline and the landscape rolls beneath them slowly, for he's in no hurry. Soon the sound of the waves can be heard below and Rowan is starting to circle the place where he first met Babs. "It's around here, somewhere, isn't it? I seem to remember you saying something about being at your Father's house…"

-

"This is close enough, where we first met…." Babs says as she looks. The sea meeting lands edge… the lights of the community just waking. "It's beautiful…." and she falls silent.

"It is…" Rown murmurs. It's pre-dawn now and the sky is starting to lighten though sunrise itself is a ways off yet. "It was… quite fortunate that we met. I've greatly enjoyed getting to you know, Babs."

-

Babs laughs softly "That almost sounds like an ending Rowan, but I know it's it not. It was fortunate" although Fenris' words echo at the moment "Take us somewhere we can watch the sunrise togther, Man and Woman…"

-

Rowan pulls up into a hover, canting his head a little and then smiles. There's an empty hill, near the shorline, away from the houses but not too far away. He starts to glide down to it. "I did not mean it as an ending." He smiles, confirming Babs own observations. "Simply that I am glad it happened."

He touches down, still a huge lizard and lowers his neck so that Babs can slide off him and settle before he turns back himself into the familiar muddy haired young man.

-

As Rowan lowers his neck Babs does slide off, a little clusmily, and sits in the sand. Pulling her legs in beside her, she holds herself upright and looks out at the sunrise. "I know you didn't mean it as as an ending, it was just an observation."

-

Rowan sits down beside Babs and watches as the sky turns pink and begins to brighten, the dawn now not far away. "Always did like this time of day. It was the only time things ever seemed right. Nights were oppressive and days dangerous. But the dawn…" The dawn always seemed to promise hope, even if he never personally saw it come to pass.

-

"May I lean against you, Rowan?" Babs asks quietly "That's a very poetic way to look at the start of the day. I look at it as rebirth, everything is clean to start again…" Her gaze doesn't waver from the vista in front of her.

-

"Of course Babs." Rowan shifts his position to make it easier and loops his arm around her shoulders to support her. There's no intent, no hidden purpose, in the touch, other than an enjoyment of her company and a desire to keep her from slipping. "There. How's that?"

-

"Perfect, thank you" Babs murmurs her attention caught by the sunrise ahead of them. "Were your sunrises like this?" she nods at the scene ahead of them.

-

"Dimmer… but more colorful. The widespread use of weapons of mass destruction had thrown a lot of ash and debris into the atmosphere…" Rowan mumurs. "They were… distant. Colder. I like this better, myself. I'd always wondered what they were like before the war." And they were rare, for Rowan. He did not often have the time to spare, and certianly never with such good company.

-

Allowing herself to lean against Rowan and use his strength to support her, Babs relaxes slightly. "More colorful but colder, more distant, I'm not sure I can envisage it" a pause "Thank you for this, I've really enjoyed it…." and letting some of her weight rest against Rowan, lapses into silence.

-

Rowan is, himself, quite happy to enjoy the sunrise in silence with Babs for a good long while. Finally he looks over to her and smiles gently. "You're welcome. It was my pleasure."

-

Turning her head, Babs looks up at Rowan once the sun has risen as a fiery orb over the sea in front of them, she smiles softly. "It's been wonderful… Do you think we should be getting back?" Babs seems to hate that idea, but she must get back.

-

"We should, soon, if you do not wish to be seen. I do not know what plans you had for the day… though I assume you had some. You generally do." Rowan notes. "Though if it's just a question of eyes on us, we have time yet." It'll be a while after sunrise before the community really wakes up.

-

"Let's wait then… My work will wait a little" after all, most of her work occurs at night. Leaning against Rowan, Babs green eyes focus on the sunrise ahead of her.
