The call had come from Metropolis.

Ordinarily kidnappings and cases of human trafficking are something that the police deal with but, uh, no one knew what to do with this one and it was kind of sort of international. It involved a child, fifteen years old. The boy in question was from England, visiting the states with relatives. Someone had tried a snatch and grab and it had almost worked. The kid had been shoved into the back of a van and then… well… something had happened. Something not normal. There were screams and blood and the van had flipped over. It's not… super clear who in that van is still alive. Thermal scans show only the kid - Alex. Still, this is mostly a job for the police.

Except that the boy's parents are both English diplomats. So SHIELD had been alerted due to the possible political ramifications. Right now the kid's in an unmarked van at the center of a large quarentine zone. The media has been backed off. Again, political ramifications.

No one seems to have thought of the supernatural ones. Yet.

-

Melinda May received the orders to go to Metropolis and see what's going on, and (of course) the only person available to accompany her is Lance Hunter. She'll never admit it openly, but she could think of far worse people to have riding along. She can at least rely on the former STRIKE leader to use his brain and not be a complete goof while 'on duty'. "ETA five minutes, Hunter. Buckle in." Their Quinjet made the travel quick, and now they're angling to land in the closest vacant space big enough to hold the VTOL jet.

-

Lance is sober, as ever when he is working, and he is silent, buckling in with a brief grin at her. "Buckled, boss." The man uses the time to set himself up, preparing for any occasion he might face, weapons tucked away, alongside a few other pieces. Guns checked, and he leans back, applying that strange ability of some agents to sleep and rest as needed. Sprawling in that seat, his hands behind his head, he closes his eyes.

-

Kate doesn't, technically, work for SHIELD. On the other hand, Clint recently extended her a pretty serious invitation, and she's been curious about it, so she's been hanging around. More than usual. Which is how she ended up in the quinjet when it was taking off. Clint can fly it, how hard can it be, right? Once it was in the air, it was too late to drop her, and she flatly refused to actually jump out, so here she is. Peering over Hunter and May's shoulders.

"Mutant, maybe?" she guesses. "I've seen them do some crazy things."

-

Ozymandias was in Metropolis closing out a business deal, and was hoping for a quite evening reading a book, when he hears about the kidnapping over his radio. He takes a deep breathe and quickly puts on his uniform. As he place his shield on his back, he ponders why he is always packing all of this equipment, and how he can hope to bring more items to the field.

Ozymandias opens the window of his hotel and climbs out on the window's ledge He starts jumping and flipping from building to building as he makes his way towards the quarantine zone, until he arrives at a building that is nearby that overlooks the quarantine zone.

-

The quarentine zone is a circle about four hundred yards in diameter with the van at the Center. Police ring it, keeping out the curious and none of them are actually going in. None of them are going to stop the SHIELD agents from going in and, of course, none of them see Oz. Its like he's a wizard, or something.

They are, however, available for question, not that they know a whole lot. As May pulls the Quinnjet in, thermal scans still show Alex huddled in the van, sitting with his knees pulled up to his chest and his arms wrapped around them. And from a distance, from the crowed, someone else is watching with great interest. Great interest indeed.

-

Bishop already got the dust jacket liner notes of the Riot Act from May, so when they disembark from the Quinjet each with a little earpiece comm and Kate with a SHIELD issue jacket over her street clothes (and no arguing), the trio appear to be a unified front. "Hunter, perimeter check. Bishop, eyes alert. Mention anything, no matter how insignificant it seems." For her own part, she walks right up to the van and knocks on the door gently. "Alex? May I come in?"

-

Lance is a quiet figure studying the scans, his face sober, "Poor bugger." The mutter hints at a softer side, as the man frowns at the screen. "On it." He is moving then, the perimeter scanned as he moves around his, his gaze sharp, the more professional side of him giving the lie to the casual joking appearance most are familiar with. The SHIELD jacket is worn with comfort, and he lets his gaze move slowly over the crowd, looking for anything out of the ordinary, anything to trigger that feeling of hinky.

-

Kate doesn't even have the grace to look embarrassed, riot act or no. In fact, with her quiver over her shoulder and her hands in her pockets, she still looks sort of like an intern. Totally harmless over here. "Eyes open," she promises May, hanging back just a little bit to get a better look at the big picture.

-

"Stay back!" A cracking fifteen year old voice cries out in the manner that boys do when they're trying not to let on that they've been crying. "Don't come closer…" Sobbing echoes inside the van. There's… a fair amount of blood leaking from under the door.

There's also something moving atop the rooftops. It's not easy to see, blurring, phasing in and out, a great outline of some kind of… 'beast' is the only real word for it. But it's making for the quarentine zone.

The only Hinky thing, really, is the van itself. It's on it's side, torn by what appear to be claw marks and thermal scans show only a singls (not crying) fifteen year old boy on the inside.

-

Melinda May kneels down (clear of the leaking blood) where she can see the young man through a window. "I'm Agent Melinda May from SHIELD. I'm here to help." She's hoping that the unflinching demeanor will be a reassurance to the boy, who is clearly VERY upset. "Do you feel up to telling me what happened?"

-

Hunter is scanning the crowd, his gaze sharp, serious, his hands free for any movement he needs. Nothing hinky so far, apart from that van itself. The small shake of his head is sympathy for the kid, silent, his lips compressing.

-

"It's okay, Alex," Kate calls over as she continues to look around. "She's not actually all that bad." Either that's a patent lie, or Kate honestly is signing up for more May-glares later on. It's Kate, it could be either way. Unlike most people, though, she does something different: she looks up. Enough to catch a glimpse of something on the rooftop. "We've got movement up high," she murmurs on the comm. "Try not to give on, whatever it is, it's hard to see."

-

Ozymandias is scanning the location from his building. He is about to go back to his hotel, when he see something else moving towards the quarantine zone.

-

Kate's comm message has Hunter turning in another slow circle, apparently scanning the crowd once more, but his gaze flickers upwards, hidden from those at any distance from him. "Seen." The murmur into the comms is brief and he takes a stroll, moving to intercept the movement between the movement and the van, casually.

-

The rooftops are home to a lot of things. What finally emerges from a shroud of shadow is an immense two headed dog. Easily the size of a small car. And there's a person with it. A woman, robed and hooded, also looking down at the same scene Ozymandias is, from about 50 feet away.

"They're all dead… I don't know what's happening to me…" Alex sobs. "I didn't mean it, I promise!!!"

-

May's got her game face on, so she'll have a talk with Kate later about her comment. "I know you didn't mean it, Alex. Come on out, and we'll help you figure out what's happening. I'm going to open the door now, all right?" May reaches to try and open one of the overturned van's doors, watching the boy to make sure it doesn't startle him overmuch.

At Bishop's mention of something on the rooftops, she pauses and refrains from cursing aloud. "Hunter, get back to the Quinjet and be ready."

He murmurs into the comms, giving his observations, as he heads towards the jet at a jog. The jet has their back now.

-

Kate is blissfully oblivious to the doom headed her way from May. Or at least that's the face she's putting on. It's better than giving any sign that she sees the woman and the best on the rooftop. Hunter heads for the jet, and Kate circles around the van until she's between it and the strangers.

-

Ozymandias doesn't take action when the two headed dog appears. He decides it is best to let this scene to play out some more, before taking action.

-

The door peeks open a little and a tear stained fifteen year old face peeks out. "You… can find my Mom and Dad? I don't know if I can go home now…"

There's a thud as a large two headed dog being ridden by a woman in flowing robes with a cowl across her face leaps from a nearby building and lands about thirty feet from Kate. "Well… I can see the little one had a little bit more fire than anticipated. That's alright. We can use that."

-

Melinda May is about to reach for the boy when the woman riding a giant two-headed dog leaps down from the rooftops to land in front of Bishop. "Yes, Alex. I'll get you somewhere safe, and I'll find your parents and bring them to you." And then she pitches her voice a bit more loudly, and in that tone of voice that tolerates no bullshit, "And no one will get in my way." That means you, Dog Lady.

-

"Nope." Kate doesn't hesitate, doesn't try to negotiate. Kate sees a creepy woman riding a two-headed wolf land in front of her, and Kate pulls her bow and shoots directly at the woman. Because, honestly, who thinks the sorceress is going to be killed by a single shot? Hawkeyes don't have that kind of luck.

-

Ozymandias is still not exactly sure what is going on, and if he is really needed for this battle. He does begin to go check his gear again as he watches the scene play out.

-

The woman ducks, though not fast enough. Kate's arrow tears her robe and leaves a deep gash on her arm. "You'll pay for that, Huntress." She throws her hand up and May can hear screaming from inside the van. Something bangs agaisnt the wall, tending it. Then again. Then a large werewolf tears itself from the van as the druidess hops off the two headed dog which begins to circle. "Wonderful Alex…" Alex doesn't seem to be all there. "Kill them."

-

"Alex! No!" May throws herself clear of the van, then looks at the werewolf that is in reality a fifteen year old innocent. "Bishop. Tranq him." For her own part, she reaches for her sidewarm but hesitates, considering the crowds ringing the area, even if most of them are getting smart and turning to flee the area. Damnit, there is no way this isn't about to turn very ugly. She can't help the little voice in the back of her mind wishing that Fenris were here. Pulling her sash whip, she starts trying to get around the Alex werewolf to get at the source of this trouble, the woman and her two-headed mount.

-

"Sure, that's bound to work well," Kate mutters doubtfully, but she pulls a pair of tranq arrows from her quiver and aims them at the young werewolf, loosing in a smooth motion. "You take American Express, lady?" she calls back to the sorceress, taking out another basic arrow. Technology just doesn't seem like a great bet right now. "Or are you a Visa and Mastercard type? Can't take the high transaction fees?" Maybe if she keeps talking, she can distract her from whatever spell she's working on?

-

The countless decades have taught him that he should always wait for the second shoe to drop. Sometimes the shoe is an reinforcement of Vikings, Night-Riders triggering an alarm by your camp, being betrayed by a beautiful facist in Spain, or in this case a kidnap victim turning into a werewolf.

Ozymandias uses his superspeed to enter the battle behind the sorceress and her two headed hound. He quickly pulls out his shield in front of him.

-

Just in time for the hound to bark. It's an odd… distorted noise, the two heads barking slightly out of synch that sends a pressure wave right at Kate… which is intercepted by Ozymandias and his shield. An arrow sails over his head and hits the sorceress in the shoulder, knocking her down. Alex shakes his head, looking at May bewildered for a long moment, and then a green glow surrounds his face, mirrored on the sorceress good hand. "Obey me you dumb wolf! Kill the Archer, then the Agent."

Alex snarls and leaps at Kate from behind.

-

"Alex! Fight this!" May sets her sash whip spinning so fast it's audibly whirring, and then she sends it shooting straight at the sorceress, letting go of the weapon completely so it can reach woman. Then she launches herself at Alex to stop him from mauling Kate. The kid doesn't need any more blood on his hands.

-

"That just means it's working," Kate taunts the sorceress, diving toward Alex when he leaps at her, trying to slide underneath the wolf's leap. The sorceress may be drawing the broad strokes, but she's giving orders to a teenager who doesn't exactly know what he's doing in the first place. She can use that. The bow goes back over her shoulder, and she trades it for a pair of fighting sticks instead. "I can dance with the kid if someone wants to deal with Glinda over there!" she calls back to Hunter and May.

-

The pressure wave cause Ozymandias to drop to one knee as the shield and his body are rocked by it. A smirk forms behind his mask and says, "Nice bark, here is my bite!" Ozymandias reaches into one of his pouches, and pulls out two concussive bombs. There is no time to set a trigger from them, so he is just arms the bombs and tosses them at the head of the two headed dog.

-

Dog go boom? It's instinct was to catch one of the bombs in it's mouth (it's right mouth, if anyone's paying attention) and that appears to have not been good for it. Sadly, the jaw hanging off it's face lasts for only a moment. The druid, still concentrating with an arrow in her shoulder, casts on the beast and it immediately begins to very rapidly heal. It's still dazed though, not clear what's going on and in no condition to attack. A moment later May's sash hits the druidess and tangles her up. The woman begins cursing… er, it's probably cursing. The only one who has any chance of knowing the language is Ozy. (It's Celtic. Really old Celtic.)

Alex leaps over Kate missing her. May's shouted encouragement is shrugged off and for now the control on him seems to hold as he spins aorund… only to be tackled by May. He's bigger than may like this. Got a foot and a half on her, but as Kate just internally observed, May know's what to do with her body in a combat situation and Alex… simply doesn't.

-

The jet secured, Hunter returns, and he returns at a run, heading for the fight with his own weapons drawn, pointed at the floor, safety on. His gaze takes in the happenings, and he frowns, crouching down for steadiness, and firing off several rapid shots at the druidess, aiming to avoid innocents, "You got it, boss." The mutter into comms is serious, his joking put aside, "Hey! Lady! Care to give me some of that love?" The yell to the sorceress is loud, as he reloads, moving his position forward.

-

Melinda May tackles Alex and promptly uses a modified Tae Kwon Do / wrestling move to pin the werewolf's stronger limbs in such a manner that trying to pull free bends his joints in painful directions. Now if she can just hold him despite his clearly greater than human strength until the sorceress is taken down…

-

"Or you can take this one, that's cool, too," Kate pants as May takes over the Alex-wrestling. "New tactic. I bet she needs to concentrate." She draws her bow again, fitting a taser arrow to the string and sighting on the sorceress. "PikaCHU!" Yeah. Focus on that.

-

Ozymandias pulls his assegai and steadies his shield. As he changes the two headed hounded in attempt to block the hounds attack, while landing blows on the hound with his spear, he can only think this sort is act is why all the ancient Greek heroes had tragic lives. He doesn't voice his doubt at this tactic actually working, but lets out a war cry as he goes to engage.

-

The sorceress whirls and faces Hunter, distracted, doging bullets as best she can. She's on the verge of replying with some fire of her one when Kate's lightning arrow… well… let's just say it was super effective. The sorceress goes down twitching and in that instant her hold on Alex is shattered. It doesn't take but a minute or two for the boy to be a boy oncce more, curled up and sobbing, terrified. Oh yes, right. His parents are diplomats… oy… this is going to be fun to explain.

Ozymandias' assault on the two headed dog is more than it can handle. After multiple, really nasty stab wounds about the heads and necks (yes plural) it collapses with a piteous whine and fades out of existance with a green shimmer.

-

"Hey, baby! Over here!" Lance, applying dating tricks to combat, "Come on, you lying piece of arse…" And now divorce tricks. As he speaks, he shoots, aiming to finish his combat before he gets up close and personal, "Come on, baby,… " A grin shot towards Kate acknowledges her distraction therapy for the Sorceress, "Nice shot, Bishop!" The mumble over comms comes as he lowers his weapon, moving to secure the location, a glance at Ozymandias quick, faintly cynical. "Want me to prep our exit, May?"

-

Melinda May lets go of the boy the moment he starts shrinking to his normal size, shedding her own armored, pocketed jacket to put around the boy's shoulders. Careful with any pockets on the inside. There are very likely sharp and pointy things in them. She considers picking the kid up to get to the Quinjet, but it's very likely that the fifteen year old is taller than she is, and that could be awkward. "Yeah," she tells Hunter a bit breathlessly. "The faster the better." Then she's pulling her phone from one of the pockets on the jacket to tap in a quick text message.

-

"Uh, May?" Kate asks as she jogs closer to the downed sorceress. "I don't think I've got anti-magic anything in here. I can try a tranq on her. But I really, really, really don't think we want her waking up on the jet. Just my gut on that one." She pulls out another tranquilizer tip as she gets close, ready to hit the sorceress with it if she needs to. That's about as far as her plans go, though.

-

Ozymandias tilts his head to the left as he looks over at Kate, "If you are Hawkeye, I think this makes us even. If you are not, you owe me one." Ozymandias turns as he starts to make his escape.

-

The sorceress groans but is clearly not up for much at the moment having been arrowed, shot at, May sashed and then arrowed again. It's at exactly this point that a tear in reality opens and one Jeremiah Wolfson steps through holding a blade in one hand that by rights he should not be comfortable one handing. "Ah…" The blade shrinks into a neckalce and gets replaced on the man's neck. "You have it under control. Good."

-

Weapons go away, tucked away, secured, as Lance heads towards the kid, his expression as friendly as it ever has been. "Hey mate, want to come with me? Let's get you away from this mess and back with your parents. You did well there, fighting her off. I had a she-devil like that one…" Jokes, manliness, all nice and safe, and he extends a hand to the kid, inviting him to join him, "Want to come to the jet and get it set up so we can get these tough ladies out of here?"

-

Melinda May is by no means an expert in magical things, but one thing she's heard before is that most spell casters have to be able to speak to do anything truly damaging. "Muzzle her. Blindfold, gag, bind her hands so Clint couldn't get free." Why yes, that IS the standard by which May rates restraints.

She waits for Alex to either accept or refuse Hunter's offer to get to the Quinjet, then tenses for about half a second when Fenris suddenly appears. She calms again just as quickly, and mutters just a bit darkly, "Great timing, Wolfson."

-

"Oh, good. You can take Glinda," Kate grins to Fenris as he appears, taking a hefty step back from the sorceress and turning toward Ozymandias' departure. "Even for now," she calls back after the mysterious man. "It's okay, I'll still have your back next time, too." No one can see her hand shaking, right? Not if she shoves it in her pocket, at least.

-

Fenris looks over to the druidess who is finally coming to. She stares at the Old Wolf and says something in a worried tone in Celtic. Fenris just grins and opens a way beneath her. And down she goes. "Is the pup okay?" He asks the assembled group quietly, watching as Ozymandias makes his exit. Hrm… feels like he's scented that scent before… perhaps not.

-

Over comms, a mumble from Lance is a much more direct idea of what to do with the woman, mostly involving bullets, concrete and oceans. Jeremiah gets a glance, a nod, and he claps a hand on Alex's shoulder, leading the lad towards the jet, providing his best Big Brother act. By the time they reach the jet, the kid is settled with coke, and Lance is telling stories of amazing superheroes…

"I look forward to the next time if there is one." Ozymandias jumps over the fence, and makes his way out of the quarantine zone.

-

Melinda May straightens to standing as Hunter leads the kid off, visibly ignoring the Metropolis in November weather as her jacket departs over the boy's shoulders. "He will be. I know some people that help him while I get in contact with his parents." Seeing the druidess disappear into one of Fenris's portals is honestly a relief, and she does not care what's going to happen to her. Whatever punishment that druidess gets, she's earned it. She then has to turn and go deal with the police offers.

-

"I didn't hurt him," Kate answers Fenris' question about the boy. "And I doubt May did. But he's probably pretty messed up. Luckily, we know people who go through similar sorts of things. We can get him in touch with them." She glances back over her shoulder toward the jet, where Hunter is regaling the boy. "Kind of seems like there's a problem, though. Like, you know. Rotten druids."

-

"That there is." Fenris murmurs. "And I suspect you'll be seeing more of them. I'd be on the lookout, Kate, for women with children of that age or a little younger turning up at your shelter. Just a hunch." The Wolf glances about and turns to open a Way. "Anyone need a lift? It does seem like you came in style this time."

-

Hunter, settling into the jet with the boy, has a bottle of … lemonade. He kicks back, putting his feet on the table, the conversation drawing a laugh from the kid, but Lance is watching him like a hawk, protectively brotherish.

-

Melinda May makes quick work of talking to the police officers, then turns back to Fenris and Kate. "We're fine, but thank you for the offer." Bishop gets a head tilt telling her to get back to the Quinjet, and then May is following while checking the phone still in her hand, hoping for a reply to the message she sent. Contacting Trent is really for two reasons. First, to see if she take the boy to that safehouse property off of I-95, and second so he can help her track down Alex's parents and get in contact with them ASAP.

-

"I'll keep an eye out," Kate nods to Fenris, then, at May's nod, jogs back toward the plane, flashing a smile toward the boy as she climbs in. "Hey, Alex," she says in a friendly tone, joining in with Hunter.
