Rowan hasn't heard from Babs in a little while, so tonight he's come to visit the clock tower with some of the tea she liked from the last time he did, and some milk tea, new stuff he hasn't tried yet. He buzzes at the door and looks up. She's been a bit silent lately and he's hoping that everything is alright.

-

As Rowan buzzes, Babs looks up from the search results she's been analysing and sees it's Rowan. Entering the commands on her console, she opens the door and uses the intercom to invite him in "Rowan, come on up." Making sure the monitoring room is clear and secure, Babs makes her way to her to the elevator and will be waiting when Rowan comes up. As she waits, she removes her glasses and rubs her eyes… and returns her glasses to her face. Analysing data is wearing.

-

Rowan steps out of the elevator and into the now familiar apartments smiling when he sees Babs. The rub at her eyes gets a look at concern. "Hey… I hadn't heard from you in a little while." The Blue warrior says, stepping over. "Thought I'd drop in and check on you."

-

Babs smiles apologetically "I'm sorry… there's a bit going on and I get focussed…" the smile grows slightly "It's good to see you again, are you recovered from your encounter with The Nameless?" Babs looks up at Rowan as he steps closer.

-

"More or less." The soldier responds. He can recover from a lot given time to do so. "Just a bit worried about you is all. Would you like me to make some tea? Brought some milk tea this time." He's already half turned as if to go into the kitchen to do just that.

-

"Tea sounds wonderful. I don't think I've tried milk tea" Babs looks pleased Rowan is so comfortable. "I'll come and help….. Worried… because you haven't heard from me?" She gestures to the kitchen and starts to move in that direction.

-

"Yes… it's unlike you to go dark." Sometimes she gets busy, Rowan knows, but he usually hears something even if it's just a little hello. The Blue heads into the kitchen and puts the water on, pulling the tea out (loose leaf, of course) so Babs can inspect it. "I know you can't share some things, but still."

-

The tea gets a look and Babs nods but she's more focussed on Rowan. Sitting back in her chair, she looks at him carefully…. not quite sure of his mood… he is still making tea after all "For causing you concern, I'm very sorry" the redhead says quietly "I'm really not used to having someone…. outside of my work…. to check in with." Babs blows out a breath and runs a hand through her hair.

-

Rowan turns and cants his head, smiling a little bit. "Sorry? Why sorry? You don't have to apologise for my concern. And I certainly don't expect you to check in with me. I like you Babs. I think it's safe to say we're friends. Perhaps very good friends? Friends worry about one another. Comes with the terrirtory."

-

Babs returns Rowans small smile "I might not have to check in, and maybe that's not the right words, but it seems it would save you some worrying… and whether it comes with the territory of being very good friends, it's not something I would wish on anyone." her hand massages the back of head "I expect to worry about everyone, I think that's part of my job description."

-

"That sounds like a difficult job." Rowan's had it before. Military leaders are expected to take care of their subordinates and that, if you're serious about it, entails a great deal of worry. "Surely, though, the people who ask you to do it wouldn't want you burning yourself out with it."

-

"No they wouldn't and they don't… I get regular lectures from many of them, Rowan." Babs' frowns "One of my friends bought me so much food the other day, it filled the freezer and most of the fridge." That brings the smile back as she remembers Charlie tucking into it. "I'm fine… and I'll make sure I'm not so quiet in future… will that help?"

-

"I'd be more than happy to hear more from you… will it help you?" Rowan still isn't sure if his presence is a blessing or a curse. Sometimes Babs seems to enjoy it and sometimes it almost seems as if the 'responsibility' to another person weighs on her. Before he can ask about it though the kettle whistles and brings his smile back. Rowan steeps a couple cups of the new milk tea and offers Babs one.

-

Gesturing to the table, Babs takes the cup and moves towards it. "Please sit with me Rowan." and she takes a sip of the tea… "That's different… nice but different to the others we've tried." The redhead looks at the soldier "You've something on your mind… what is it?" she asks softly as she looks into his eyes.

-

Rowan sits down and reaches out to pat Babs hand with a smile. "Just that I wonder if sometimes you don't… worry more about me than you need to. The need to keep secrets seems to weigh on you and I don't know if it's something I'm doing or just… in general."

-

As Rowan pats Babs hand, she turns her hand to try and hold his… "Just like your concern for me, Rowan… it is, what it is." A small smile and then she sighs deeply "It's not anything you're doing, not at all. In fact, that you seem to understand that I must and don't press…. it's a big help."

Lifting a shoulder, Babs murmurs "Lately, there have been some …. tight situations …. they required a lot of finess and management and… I had cross words with people I truly admire and that required fixing."

-

Rowan nods, considering. He has a hard time imagining what it would take to get Babs cross. She always seems so self possessed. He knows also that if she could share any more detail she would be. So instead he asks. "Is everything alright?"

-

Babs sighs… "You had to ask that…" she pauses "I would normally say 'yes', business as usual but I… found out that someone I knew died…" She blinks at that "I didn't know them well and it's just been a bit of a shock."

-

Rowan grimaces. It's hard losing people. People close are the worst but even 'fellow soldiers' is difficult. Particularly if it doesn't happen often. "I'm sorry Babs. Is there anything I can do?"

-

Babs smiles "Just keep being you… your company does help, as does your understanding." Her tea has been forgotten during this discussion and she turns her attention to it, sipping it slowly working out how she likes the flavor.

-

"I can definitely do that." Rowan smiles. Being himself is mostly what he does. When he's not fighting Nameless or swimming around for science and relaxation. "Perhaps you and I should get out some time again."

-

"I'd like that" Babs says quietly "As much as enjoyed the flight, I think I enjoyed our time on the beach afterwards…" she looks at her tea "How do you like the tea?"

-

"It's nice. I'm enjoying the different texture and flavor." Rowan considers, and looks over to Babs. Really the best part about any of this tea is the company.

-

"It is nice… " Babs agrees and seeing Rowans look gives him a questioning smile. "Have you been doing anything exciting since I saw you last? Let me live a little through your adventures, Rowan."

-

Rowan smiles. "Since last you saw me? Nothing particularly heroic. I helped your oceanographers search for some lost wrecks, visited a trading village of my own people near Atlantis… which is unusual. My people live far away. Still it was nice to see some Blue. I explore this city and New York and Metropolis when I can. So much to find out and learn up here."

-

"Mingling with your own people sounds like it would be good for you. Did you know that existed and did you find anything interesting to trade for? I'm not even sure that's the right thing to ask…." Babs is interested to learn more about Rowans people…

-

"Deep squid. One of my favorite foods." Rowan smiles. "Maybe I can bring some up at some point though… I'm not sure you'd like it. Like most underwater foods it isn't cooked." He leans over, happy to chat at length about his people and activities and what he does with his time.

-

Babs leans forward as well, resting her arms on her knees as she listens. "Deep squid…. sounds interesting but we'll have to work out how to cook it, I don't think I could eat it raw." She's already considering that… "Were the people, as you expected Rowan or did they differ to yours from your dimension?"

-

"They were much the same. Less afraid… less on guard. It was nice. And strange. All at the same time. I think…" Rowan pauses… "I think I had family there… but I saw no one I recognized."

-

"That's kind of important, Rowan. Why do you think you had family there?" Babs looks questioningly at the Blue… maybe he just had a feeling about it…

-

"I remember spending time with people there who were not soldiers… nor, I think, simply friends." The Blue shrugs. "It's… a bit unclear to me sadly. Just a hunch really."

-

Babs nods slowly "Well that's something…. remembering that much." Her tea is finished, her cup placed on the table beside her and she smiles at Rowan… "The tea was lovely, I like that you bring different blends to try… and then try them with me."

-

"One of my favorite things to do." Rowan smiles, scooting a bit closer to enjoy both the tea and the company a bit better.
