It's getting onto Winter in New York and the snow has arrived. And with Snow, the things that like to frolic in the snow. Most of these little icelings and jack frosts are harmeless. Fenris ignores them as a matter of course. The snow flurries and other spirits of the weather belong here, so Fenris ignores those too.

But who invited the Abominable Snowmen?

There's a blizzard covering a good six square blocks of Queens in white as far as the eye can see and within them stalk creatures for which Mankind has no real name. How they got here Fenris isn't sure. Why they're here… he's a bit more sure of that, but he'll have to deal with those annoyign druids later. Right now there's two or three damn Yheti in this whiteout somewhere and he's going to find them.

-

Where in the heck did this come from? Rune and Pepper, having gone into Queens earlier in the day (a photo shoot for the former, a business meeting for the latter, with the pair meeting up for a bite to eat before heading back Manhattan-ward) had not been expecting THIS to stop their progress. Still inside the Stark company car with a thankfully very patient driver, Pepper looks out the windows and watches as small icy-looking things cavort and scamper along the sidewalks — as far as she can see past the sudden blizzard-like conditions. "This isn't natural, is it?"

-

Dana grimaces at Pepper's question. "I mentioned, once, didn't I, that Her Majesty is fond of Ice and Winter, right?" No. Not natural. Doesn't mean, mind, that it's the Queen's fault, but… well… Every time Dana has disappeared from New York, lately, it's been because she's been dodging minions of Winter (who are considerably less endearing than Despicable Minions). So, she's biased.

She gazes out the window, looking at the shadows and shades that layer over the crazy weather. "Watch out!" she cries out to the driver quite suddenly. Her witchshield flares around her, encasing the entire car as a large hairy creature rises up in the middle of the road before them.

-

Aquaman really doesn't feel the cold. Like at all. He understands other people do, but it's never bothered him in the least, not even when he was a boy. This is a fact he never remembers as clearly as he when winter comes to the north east. Barefoot in nothing but custom formed scale mail armor and a crown, Aquaman walks through down the side walk alone noting that at least this time no one's staring at hi-was that a white big foot? The sound of a car skidding on snow and an impact that follows draws his gaze and he spins to look, brow knit in concern, "That… that is a big furry thing." he says to no one. He'd be surprised or something, but frankly you should visit the ocean floor sometime and then tell him about weird creatures.

-

The witchshield prevents any damage to the car as it impacts (at comparitively low speed) the Yheti. It does not, unfortunately, prevent said Yheti from picking the car up by the front and glaring at the passengers within. It's muzzle is short and stout, almosst bear-like and it's… well easily twelve feet tall. Disneyland Matterhorn Yhetis these are not.

Speaking of big hairy things, another one lands near Aquaman having, apparently, just jumped off a building and come to rest in a drift of snow taller than a small child. It glares at Arthur although less angrily and more curiously. It's Winter. Time for blizzards. What the hell are all these odd hairless apes doing here?

Fenris has scented the Yheti… and hears the muffled thud of magic on furry leg. "Uh oh…" He turns and breaks into a run.

-

Pepper Potts throws one arm against the car door next to her when Dana yells to the driver in warning and the car comes to an abrupt stop against something. But, it's the sensation of the car being physically picked up and the giant pair of eyes peering in the windshield at them that gets a surprised yelp out of her. After a second of deer-in-headlights surprise, she says to the driver as calmly as possible, "Dmitri, please don't do anything to try and provoke it. Maybe… turn off the engine?"

-

You know the great thing about snow? It's water. Whatever means of propulsion that allow Aquaman to travel at physics breaking speeds underwater also seem to work while he's in snow. Sorta. It's not the same thing, but apparently it's close enough. A rooster tail of snow two stories high appears in a fine sparkling wall behind him as Arthur rushes across the space between the sidewalk and where the behemoth creature is peering into the car. "Hope he doesn't think it's a snowglobe." he says as he passes Fenris. Not nessicarily /to/ the wolf, just out loud. He skids to a stop beneath the car and begins the arms out held eyes upward dance of someone keeping an eye on the ball so that they might catch it when it comes down. He's more worried about the people in the car then the monster at present.

-

"Yeti…" Dana says, bracing herself and maintaining the shield. "It's a bloody yeti." No. Not so Disney. Not Dreamworks, either. Somewhere outside the car, there's a low growl as a much enlarged Rex warns the creature away from the car he was pacing. He flickers into visibility, instead of his usual incorporeal look, ears back and lips curling in warning. "How's your credit with the local pizzaria," Dana asks Pepper, now, going through options in her head. "We might need to call in some help, and cheese will do in a pinch." How to lure demifey to your side in a hurry.

-

The Yheti staring at the car is a bit bemused. He doesn't shake it, thankfully and as the engine dies he seems a lot less perplexed. He's not letting go though and this has problems of it's own. To wit: Frost begins to creep up the car and the whole thing is getting cold rather fast, these being avatars and creatures of deepest winter. It's not going to take long before the fuel and coolant are frozen solid… and then the metal? And the interior?

There is a third thud near the car as the third Yheti shows up. This one is larger and seems less curious and more beligerant than the other two, pacing about, looking at the car and Arthur. It hasn't made any hostile moves yet. But it's clearly agitated and not getting any calmer.

And then, just because what we need here is another strong, fur coated creature, a large black wolf steps up next to the car. Arthur can likely only see his feet and legs. "Put it down. Slowly."

Rex… gets a curios look from the Yheti holding the car. But before anything can come of it, Curious Yehti number two, the one that landed near Arthur, beams him with a snowball the size of a volleyball… that he just created out of thin air.

-

Pepper Potts blinks at Dana for a second, then replies, "I can probably empty a pizzeria's entire stock of cheese if need be. Is there something that'll work better than cheese?" Oh, wait, she knows the answer to that. Spoiled milk. "I'll bet I could get an italian place to mix ricotta and lemon juice if that'd work." She can't see past the underside of the car, so can't tell that there's a person underneath ready to catch, but she did hear Rex's growl and then Fenris's voice. So maybe they'll be okay. She hopes.

-

Doors are thresholds. Even if they happen to be car doors. Dana knows she can pull Pepper out to safety. It's Demitri she's not sure she can really reach. Not like she can easily hoist him into the back with them. So she keeps her hands braced on the car's interior, keeping the shield up. It glows with faint energy around the frame of the car. As the frost rimes across it, she grimaces. Second only to Maeve's own chill. Grand. "We need to get out of here," she notes — needlessly, no doubt. "We do not want to get caught in a fimbulwinter frost." She raises her voice, aware that both Rex and Fenris can hear her. (She doesn't know Arthur.) "This bloody car's made of steel, Old Wolf. There's only so much I can do here!" Damned fae blood.

Rex starts to approach the yeti hefting the car, only to be fumbled by the snowball from across the street. He growlbarks and snaps at the snow before he flips around and charges towards the thrower.

-

This is starting to get a little … furry for him. Mostly he deals with scaley or slimey oddities in his line of work. Today there's just a real serious fur theme that he can't help but marvel at. Aquaman continues to eye the car and it's location over his head, and he sighs, "This is ridiculous." so he jumps up and grips the car's frame, instantly adding over a half a ton of weight to the car's back end. Physics isn't on the yheti's side, leverage being what it is, "Let go or I'm calling Yukon Cornelius to put an end to you Mr." he threatens the thing holding the car.

-

Bumbles may bounce… but they're not the only thing. The Yehti may not have been hostile. But the moment Arthur grabs the car it decides that, no really, the strange thing is his and whatever it is that just grabbed it can't have it. It starts shaking the car wildly and, amongst other things, slewing it back and forth, dragging Aquaman along the snow-slick road if only for a second. This slams the car right into Fenris and sends him flying into a nearby building, leaving a wolf shaped imprint. Fenris shakes himself and stands, not happy.

The snowball thrower lets out a roar of alarm and bolts away from Rex, right toward angry Yheti, who is simultaneously being charged by Fenris. Pain in three… two…

-

Pepper Potts yelps again at the decidedly NOT gentle treatment the car is now being subjected to. Thank goodness she's in the habit of wearing her seatbelt or she'd get a very good idea for what the glitter inside a snowglobe feels like. Her bag nearly becomes an instant projectile-creating hazard, but she manages to snag it and hug it tightly to her chest. It's really all she can do for the moment.

-

That decides it for Dana. She throws herself across the seat towards both Pepper and Dimitri. As her hands touch each of them, a swirling rainbow light surrounds them and it feels like they're wrenched sideways. Or rather, the car is pulled sideways away from them and they're left dangling in the middle of an aurora borealis for a heartbeat, until Dana's shield snaps around them again. They scoot forward on a wave of light, dropping out of the leyline a short (but safer) distance away. Dana ends up in a snowdrift, panting with the effort shunting out of the iron vehicle caused her. Meanwhile, Rex fearlessly joins the tangle of hurtling furry forms in the heart of blizzard.

-

Aquaman is tossed and jangled about in a manner entirely unbefitting a king, "Oh for pete's sake!" he says as he grips the car frame tighter still, causing the steel to bend in his hands and then planting a foot down hard, smashing it through the ice and into the concrete beneath giving him a firm grounding. Then he jerks the car back, then forwards in a sudden jab, the sort of way one might if one were having a tug of war and wanted to poke the person on the other side with whatever is being fought over. "Let! GO!"

-

There's a sudden stillness in all three Yheti and if anyone's in a position to see, their eyes glow suddenly red. Their movements become purposeful, precise… and Fenris (and likely Dana) can tell that someone just sized control of them. The car gets shoved down hard onto Arthur as the Tug-o-War Yheti tries to use it to immobilize Arthur and then stalks toward Dana and Pepper. Fenris crashes into the other two Yheti at the same time as Rex… and finds their ice-cold claws turned on him. Argh! It's like fighting a frost giant… but less smelly. He sizes one and tries to drag it away and deal with it but already he's bleeding from his flanks. Rex get… flailed at is the best word. Not skillful, but very aggressive.

-

Pepper Potts was NOT expecting the sudden sideways wrench as Dana pulls all three of them free of the car, but recovers from the disorientation quickly enough to shoulder her bag and reach to pull Dana out of that snowdrift while glancing at the still-disoriented Dmitri to assist. "Dana? Are you okay? We sho…" She glances up to see the now red-eyed yeti stalking woard them. "We need to get inside somewhere. Now." And yes, if she has to, she'll haul the younger woman to her feet to get them all moving.

-

Oh, fer cryin' out loud… Dana shakes off the snow as Pepper helps her to her feet and turns in time to see one of the yetis turn towards them, its eyes glowing an unholy red. She doesn't know if it's coming for her or for Pepper or even Dmitri, but she's not keen to find out, either. "Oh, bloody hell," she swears softly. The ornate bracelet on her left wrist flares with mystic light and Wayland's armour shimmers into place around her. Bright side? It's a helluva lot warmer for her, now. The icewards on her armour glow with a warming light against the unnatural winter around her. That's certainly telling… She reaches into her bag of tricks and pulls out a channeling rod of some strength. "I hear you," she agrees with Pepper. "Grab my hand. Grab Dmitri." Thresholds, again. The edge of a sidewalk, a door to a shop… either works. "I don't know if it's you they want, or me," she tells the exec, "but I'm going to get you someplace safe and then come run interference." And yes, she means to transport them by magic again. This shouldn't have to be Pepper's fight. Rex, meanwhile, becomes sensitized to the threat Dana faces. The flailing claws largely miss him — and where they don't, he doesn't particularly flinch. Blood happens in war. But that prey isn't nearly as important as the threat against his mistress. So, he leaps back, turns, and lets out the Howl of the Hunt, charging for the creature menacing the Summerland's Heir Apparent.

-

Aquaman grunts as the car comes down and his legs smash into the concrete against, buckling the sidewalk in small craters. His face screws up in a grimace, "I am growing weary of this." he says before twisting at the waist and trying to rip the car free of the Yehti's grip so he can proced to pummel the creature with it's own improvised club. Or. At least. That was the plan. His hearing is exceptional, and picking out Pepper's words from the wind makes him change his target and turn towards the monster advancing on the women. Crumpled cars make good throwing weapons, right?

-

The Yheti advancing on the women won't see it coming. And it isn't tough enough to take the hit. It goes down like a sack of potatoes (furry, smelly potatos) and moans in pain, the right light flickering out of it. Fenris is suddenly two on one though and while he can do those odds… they require getting bigger and stronger. Possibility of collateral damage just increased. Somewhere in the snowstorm Dana can hear a laugh. Not a human laugh either. A deep rumbling, wicked laugh. One she may know.

Orboros. The Devourer Wurm.

-

Pepper Potts doesn't hesitate to follow Dana's instructions, grabbing the woman's hand in one of her own and then reaching to similarly snag Dmitri. Poor guy. He's likely gonna quit over this. She's bracing herself for whatever Dana's about to do when the Yeti approaching them is taken down by … their car? She looks back in the direction it came from and stares for a startled moment at the blond man wearing clothing completely inappropriate for this weather. He threw their car?

-

He threw the car. Yep. Dana is momentarily distracted by Arthur's impressive feat. Then, however, she hears the dark laughter. The hackles on the back of her neck stand up. Her witchshield flares around her and the two humans linked to her. "Sonuva…" The expletive trails off in a string of muttered Old Welsh that she should be very glad Pepper can't translate. "Time to go," she says then, pulling both Pepper and Dmitri forward. Again, they flash into that eldritch slipstream, passing straight through walls to appear inside a mostly vacant coffee shop. (Because no one else is crazy enough to be out in this weather.) Her expression is a little wild, like a highly alert deer. "This isn't good." She really hopes Fenris caught the same sound she did… and that he has some idea what it may be. Because he's way more suited to this than she is.

Meanwhile, however, Rex lands on top of the car that flattened the yeti. He lets out a chilling howl again, one that would drive any human inside even if the weather weren't already doing the trick. His own eyes glow red — though for a very different reason. He's been thwarted of his prey. And yet, Dana seems safe, for the moment. So, he turns back around to aid the Old Wolf, because the yetis are still a more immediate threat than the Great Serpent.

-

Aquaman's hand comes around low on his back and returns with a golden blur as his trident whirls into his hands. He turns his attentions to the Yehti still holding two car side panels like they were percusion symbols, "You should return home now," he tells the creature, "before things get unpleasent." At least it looks like all of the civilians have legged it, that's a good sign, means he can cut loose a little.

-

Pepper Potts blinks quickly to clear her mind of the disorientation again, then looks around to take stock of where they are. Coffee shop. Okay. This she can work with. First thing, push Dmitri into a chair and tell him to breathe. She freezes briefly at the howl outside, but then figures it's Rex and straightens again. Is it too cold outside to fight the yeti with scalding hot water? She's seen those YouTube videos where boiling water freezes instantly when thrown, so she's not sure it'd be of much help here. "What now, Dana?" She doesn't care for cowering in corners while others do the fighting, though she knows she's juset about the least equipped person here to deal with this. Except maybe Dmitri.

-

Okay. Fenris is done dealing with his. The Yheti are one down but he's having a hell of a time putting the other two down. And why? They draw power from the cold and the storm. And it has been created for them. And now it's going to go away. He throws his head back and howls, a pulse of magic going out from it and obliterating the storm as it moves. Then two Yheti, dazed are left to face Arthur and possible Rune (and maybe Pepper). This shouldn't take long.

-

Dana moves to the window of the shop, glancing only briefly over at Pepper as she asks her question. She uses a gloved fist to wipe some rime away in time to see and hear Fenris howl. Rex echoes the howl and charges for the nearest yeti to him, leaving the other to Arthur. He's a very big dog, right now. Gone is the amicable oversized white german shepherd. Instead, he's the size of a pony, all teeth and claws and muscle. Yetiboy's goin' down, yo.

"The fimbulwinter's breaking," Dana tells Pepper. "The demifey are scattering and Rex is hunting with Fenris." Meaning Rex is a happy boy. "I don't know who the blonde knight was, but I do know what more I heard out there and trust me: Fenris is probably the only one of us here that's not seriously outclassed by it. We lay low. That's what we do now. And pray to whatever gods you believe in that the Great Serpent isn't after us."

Meanwhile, she lays her hand against the window frame and lets her shield flow over the solid surfaces to protect the coffee shop and the people within.

-

Aquaman doesn't wait for the howl to end, he learned that from Batman ages ago. The instant the howl sounds and the Yehti nearest him hessitates, he moves in a golden blur, the trident swinging around low and sweeping the legs from beneath the monster, spinning it ass over appetite where it stands. Before it's revolution can complete, Aquaman's planted foot braces and he kicks out in a straight solid shot with the other, trying to connect solidly with the hairy behemoth's chest in a kick powerful enough to punt a Land Cruiser a city block. Hey, you don't want to be made into a fuzzy wuzzy football, then you shouldn't shakes nice cars filled with nice ladies… and some random guy. Him too. He counts.

-

They really shouldn't and now they're going to pay for it. Fenris watches as the other two Yheti crumple like empty beer cans, neither a match for Aquaman's strength nor Rex's fury. He doesn't stay to revel in the victory though. "Find the women." He says to Athur not really knowing who he is. "Make sure they're safe. I'm going after the snake." The great black wolf rips a great ragged hole open in reality, steps through it in a hurry, and is gone.
