Fenris has returned to Queens. He was here the other day preventing an attack by a trio of displaced Yheti and had hared off after what sounded like a manifestation of the Devourer Wurm before he'd had a chance to properly comb the area. Now he's back, looking over a street that looks like it's seen an epic snowball fight (there's a dent in a wall across the street made by a gaint wolf) glancing around casually as he tries to figure out who brought the snowmen here and what they did to accomplish that.

-

"Blimey, you just lurch from disaster to disaster, Old Wolf," Constantine quips, seemingly appearing from nowhere. He leans against a streetlamp post in a pose so iconic it's almost ridiculous- head bowed down, cigarette smoke swirling around his head. He looks up at the Destroyer, squinting amusedly. "You picking fights with Frosty the Snowman now? I heard something about the snowball fight from hell breaking loose here the other day."

-

There's a slight 'pop' and out of, what appears to be nowhere, walks a raven haired woman, dressed in a stylish pair trousers, blouse and blazer, handbag over her shoulder. The picture of a woman out to enjoy the sights and maybe do some shopping.

Looking around, she sighs "Not quite where I intended to be" and then she recognises Constantine leaning against the post. Smirking, she walks casually towards him "Good afternoon John, how are you? You're looking well" the words are laden with meaning. Perusing the rest of the scene and the other man, she looks at them questioningly "So what happened here then?"

-

"Only in the last year or so and it's hardly my fault that people keep poaching on my hunting grounds." Fenris half growls as he examines what appears to be the charred remains of a magical circle near an alleyway. Charred. In this snow? Odd. He scrapes up some ash on his fingres and smells them. Hrm. Holly…

Zatara's appearance gets the quirk of an eyebrow, but not a very surprised look. "Another mageling. Friend of yours, John?"

-

Constantine's head swivels around as Zatanna appears, and he cocks an eyebrow at her, along with a smile that is clearly trying to be patronizing, is actually pleased, and actually ends up in a vaguely unreadable grimace.

"More or less. At least she's one of a handful of people who wouldn't shoot me on sight," he amends, looking at Fenris. "Fenris, this is Zatanna Zatara. The world's foremost stage magician, and voted Best Legs in Superherodom four years running. Zatanna, this is Fenris. Don't let his looks throw you. Toss him a milkbone and rub his belly, and he's a decent sort."

Constantine waits for Zatanna to near him, then kips off the lightpost and moves to the burned circle, squinting at it and then looking into the air. "I hate winter magic. Holly? This is old Gaelic magic, isn't it?" Constantine frowns. He fishes for a little toy scene viewer and drops a ragged white pinwheel of images into it, and starts clicking it a few times, peering through the little red device. "Weird sort of energy matrix here, but it's fading." He throws some dust from his pocket into the air, and it drifts through the charred circle, clinging to invisible, barely lingering lines of force hovering over the scene. "This sort of working look familiar to you, mate?"

[

Holding out her hand to the tall man, Zee smiles "You can call me Zee, and I don't intend on rubbing your belly." To Constantine the young woman smirks "Was that a competition you ran, John? I wasn't aware I was a nominee." As Constantine works, the magician cants her head. "So what happened here?"

-

It'd be awkward if Zee were to rub Fenris' belly right now given that he's not remotely fuzzy or wolfy. "Nice to meet you Zee." The vaguely predatory man in the long coat rumbles. "Probably Gaelic, yes John. I'd say there's some connections to nordic magic with the Holly as well but I'd recognize it if it were."

As the matrix comes into view the Old Wolf grunts and pushes to his feet. "Druidic… damn it. Orboros."

-

Constantine starts swearing rather sulferously. "These assholes again?" The Hellblazer kicks some snow over rather ineffectually. "They do seem to keep cropping up, don't they." He drags heavily on his cigarette as if tempering himself, and dismisses the dust hovering in the air, sending it whirling away into the void.

"Well, they've got strong connections to the Fae, so… I guess stock up on cold steel," he frowns, touching his tongue to his upper lip. "I've been digging around a bit looking into these guys since that last dustup we had with them. I think I've got a countercharm in mind, but I need to refine it a bit. Feel like doing a bit of field work for me?" Constantine asks Fenris. "All you gotta do is let them hit you with some of their mojo once or twice. If the countercharm works, it should help neutralize some of their magic."

-

"The same guys that stole the Cait Sidth…" Zee stands back as Constantine works and looks stunned at his suggestion. She can assume Fenris is more than he appears but really "Isn't that a bit rich John, asking someone to take a whallop of magic as a test?"

-

"Well that'll be an interesting experiment. They tend not to want to confront me directly, but it does happen. I'd be happy to help you test it out." Fenris murmurs, turning as John angrily kicks the snow. "Have you had encounters with them since the incident with the Cait Sidhe and the Titans?" He quirks an eyebrow at Zatara and adds. "And is your leggy friend involved in this?"

Ah, she knows about that. "Yes, same people who stole the Cait Sidhe." The Old Wolf says quietly. "Very old, very dangerous people."

-

"Well, I'm sure not going to stand around and let them beat on me. Fenris is tough, I'm sure he'll be fine," Constantine says, looking at Fenris with a bit of tempered assurance.

"No, nothing since the Titans," Constantine tells Fenris with a shake of his head. "But once was enough. As a rule, I'm not wild about dealing with anyone who can survive a bullet to the face. Repeated bullets even moreso. Worrisome situation. Any idea why the bloody hell they're here?" he asks Fenris. He gestures vaguely at Zatanna. "And no, the girl with the stems isn't involved in this. She's just got good timing for this kind of thing."

-

She might be bright and bubbly, but Zee is no airhead "The 'girl with stems' and the 'leggy friend' is called Zee. Kindly use the name, thank you." Prowling closer, she looks at the two men "Those things preyed on my friend and my teleport bought me here, not where I expected to go, that makes me involved… whether you like it or not."

-

Fenris snorts. "Well, Zee, you're dealing with a druidic order that once opposed the rise of Rome and vanished thousands of years ago. Be as involved as you like but understand that there's a better than average chance of you ending up a mind-broken thrall if you do it stupidly." Upstart mages? Don't impress him. Honestly, a lot of people don't impress him. He doesn't like people. And he's old enough to have seen a lot of heroic types through out the ages.

"That said if you are determined to look into it…" This now to both mages. "They were here at the same time as a woman connected to the Fae courts and I rather doubt that's a coincidence. In general they oppose civilization and seek to kill as many people and destroy as many settled places as they can. And they've got a lot of practice."

-

"They like to use ley lines," Constantine says, making his cigarette stub vanish up his sleeve and producing a fresh one from a silver folding case. He lights up and takes a few thoughtful drags, looking around the area again. "Narrows down where they tend to crop up. I've got a lot on my plate right this minute, though. Dealing with a mirror mage who's been harassing the Titans and murdering some people. The Circle's a pain in the ass, but they aren't high on my priority list," Constantine admits to Zatanna and Fenris. "Unless they start growling up something big, I can't really follow this one up- and druids and the Fae really aren't my area of expertise, anyway," he admits. "I'm a bit more comfortable with demons than little pixies and glorified hippies."

-

Zee puts on her best showbiz smile and nods "Thank you Fenris. At least we know what we face" Sobering and canting her head, she considers "Right now, apart from the mirror mage I've not much on my plate, having just returned from a tour." The raven-haired mage admits "My style of magic isn't based in Fae, but I would like to assist… I can start with research and then move to more practical means when we agree a way forward."

-

"Practically speaking you'll have to find a way to neutralize the Circle… which won't be easy. Realistically speaking for now we're probably going to be limited to fending off whatever their latest plot du jour is. This one seemed to involve spiriting away a trio of Yheti and then using them to try to attack, possibly abduct, the daughter of one of the many lords of the Wild Hunt." Fenris frowns at that remembering. "It was pure chance that it was averted that time. I'm positive they'll try again but I don't know why." He needs to talk to Rune…

-

"I really hate playing catch up," Constantine grumbles. "I'd like to get out ahead of them for once instead of letting them be our problem of the week." As much as he'd complained about not wanting to be involved, Constantine doesn't seem to be in a hurry to go anywhere else. "I need to do some research. I think I've got an idea for how to run down the Yhetis but I'm a bit dodgy on my knowledge of them. If my idea works through, I'm sure I can get us within a mile or so of them. Maybe closer, and as rough and tumble as they are, I think if we get close they'll practically show themselves."

-

Zee looks at Fenris, with an interested air "You seem to be most familiar with the Fae, use me as arms and legs for the time being… I can learn, and I'll try to be careful" Zee shrugs an elegant shoulder and then turns her attention to Constantine "Thought you had too much on your plate… " she murmurs

-

"Don't bloody tell me about having too much on my plate. I've always got too much on my plate. Demons, fae, druids, some mirror-stepping witch- it's always something," Constantine mutters.

"Fenris is a specialist," he explains to Zatanna. "Been slumming it around Europe for a few millennia. When you live that long, you learn how to deal with long-term enemies. Aside from my own area of focus, I'm what you might call a bit more of a broad-focus problem solver. And I'd rather Fenris bump into these Yhetis before I do. My limbs come off a lot more easily than his."

-

The Old Wolf chuckles. "To be fair to you John, my limbs come off a lot less easily than a lot of things." The God-wolf is legedarily durable. He can go toe to toe with the likes of Thor for days at full power. Of course, at full power he's likely to lose himself to his story and become a ravening furry disaster which is one reason he doesn't often do that. "What's this about a mirror stepping… oh wait… the one that killed Kate's friend."

-

"You just like to grumble" Zee teases Constantine "If it's not one thing it's another." Fenris gets another considering look "Millenia huh…. and yeah, the one that killed Robin, the Titans are pretty concerned about her at the moment." Zee only returned home in the last few days and it was the first thing Keith had mentioned to her.

-

"You know when you say Titans it makes me think of something else entirely." Since Fenris remembers the things that the Titans have named themselves after. He's not really sure it's a very appropriate name for heroes. The actual titans were all kind of jerks. Then again their kids were greek gods, which were also all kind of jerks…

"I age well." He smirks noting Zee's regard.

-

"They were a bit concerned when you dropped off the grid," Constantine tells Zatanna, not unkindly. "I told them I'd step in. I saved that bloody cat's life, now he thinks I'm his personal bloody saviour or something. Whistles me up anytime something goes bump in the dish closet. You'd think the Titans would be able to handle one little witch with a single magic trick up her sleeve," he says sourly.

-

"They knew where I was but I understand." Zee sometimes can't help her other commitments. "And from what I hear, that was a pretty neat 'single magic trick', Robin wasn't exactly easy to take out…" Fenris gets a smirk "Yeah, I know, a little pretencious, but there you have it."

-

"I'm not entirely convinced that it is magic." Fenris had seen the leavings of her attack and notably absent from it? Spell residue. Most casters leave something behind of themselves. Matricies, aetheric powder, bits of soul. Nothing like that around the scene of Damian's demise. "Though that doesn't make it any less dangerous."5r

-

Constantine stops to consider Fenris' words. "I hadn't looked into it, but blimey if I didn't just break the first rule of being a good investigator. I just took it for granted that they knew what they were talking about- I assumed it was a witch because Vorpal told me it was one. But if it's not… could be a meta with some unique gift I've not seen before. That's /definitely/ not my department."

-

Zee shrugs "I haven't looked into it at all… Vorpal thought it was magic, but he wasn't there, so where did he get that information from" Zee becomes thoughtful and flicks her hair back as she does "Guess I'll have to speak to them all." Looking up at Fenris, her eyes narrow slightly "I think I heard you'd been called in… what else did you find?"

-

"Only four people were there." Fenris rumbles. "And one of them is dead. I was called to try to help save a life. This I was unable to do. His soul had fled before I arrived." He shakes his head sadly. "Other than that I've not been too involved. Yet. Should young Bishop require aid I will render it, but she hasn't asked yet."

-

"I'll do what I can to find out what's going on. Maybe it's some kind of magic we've just not seen before- or a technique to mask her unique skills. Bloody hell, I need a magical secretary just to keep track of all the stuff I need to do. I miss the days back when a busy week was exorcising a poltergeist and picking up my laundry," Constantine complains. He finishes his cigarette and makes the butt vanish up his sleeve. "I'm off, then. I'll look into it from my end and see if I can make heads or tails of this alleged witch, or the whereabouts of your frost apes. So long, Wolf. Zatanna," he says, with a curt nod at the two, before the dour mage stomps off back down the street.

-

Zee watches Constantine leave "Later John…." and returns her attention to Fenris "I'll find out what I can from the Titans. It all sounds a bit confused at the moment…. I'll take my leave as well, nice to meet you Fenris."

The raven-haired woman turns to walk in the opposite direction to Constantine. "Oh," with a flourish, she holds out a card, "My contact details if you feel that I can be of assistance."

-

Fenris takes it and holds out one of his own. It looks very… governmental. The reason why is evident when Zee looks at it. It says: Jeremiah Wolfson, Park Ranger. Well, someone's gone native. Or something. The Old Wolf probably scares the hell out of whatever wildlife he has to deal with.

-

Taking Fenris' card, Zee gives it a quick read over. "Park ranger huh… bet there's a story in there somewhere. Nice to meet you and potentially see you later." The magician walks away and speaks "emoH latroP"… there's a small 'pop' sound and she disappears from sight.
