Rowan decided, if he could convince Babs that she needed a night or day or whatever he could convince her for, out on the town. And he means, out on the town, up to the northern and nicest end of Manhattan for shopping and browsing, taking in the sights and eating whatever it was that caught their fancy. He's strolling along side her now, his clothing having adapted to something that's a bit on the upscale end. Slacks, shoes, button up, vest. A light coat. Rowan is rather immune to the cold, being able to swim in the arctic like it's a hot tub.

***

Babs has agreed to spend at least the day with Rowan. She's learning that time out lets her do her job better, but that doesn't mean she's uncontactable. Her tablet is stowed in the arm of her chair and she's modified an Oracle comm unit to send her alerts… so if something does go down, she'll know about it.

It's always interesting spending time with Rowan, he's teaching her to see things in a different way. It's cool out and despite Rowans lighter clothing, Babs is rugged up with a thick jacket, scarf and woolen cap pulled down over her red hair. "Was there anything in particular you were looking for Rowan?" Babs glances up as they move slowly down the street…

***

"Not in particular. I just wanted to get out and about and maybe look about." The Blue Warrior smiles and glances from one end of the street to the other. "Was there anything you wanted to look at or particularly were interested in?"

***

Shaking her head, Babs smiles "Not really, I do a lot of my shopping online and I don't really need much… Let's walk for a bit if you wanted to be out and about…" Babs isn't used to being 'out and about'… it's a novel concept for her. As they move down the street, her green eyes take in the stores they pass.

***

Part of the point of being out is just to take in the sights this close to Christmas. The shopping in this upscale part of town is full of holiday cheer and it affects the crowd. People seem happy in a way they often don't in Gotham and the mingling, milling crowd seems almost convicial.

***

Babs looks quite content to keep strolling and stops every so often to take in a window setting. "It's quite amazing, really, how much effort people put into this time of year." she sighs "I sometimes wish this kind of feeling could last all year round. What do you make of all the good cheer and tidings, Rowan?"

***

Rowan chuckles and nods. "It's nice to see. I like seeing people happy. People never were on my world. Even in the Overlord's cities… they were secure and orderly and fed, but never happy. Ever." He looks around and nods once more. "This? This is nice."

***

"It is nice…" Babs murmurs, stopping to look at a display in one of the windows. "I can't imagine never being happy, I mean… there's generally at least one thing in each day to be happy about. Like today, being here with you… it's not just the effort people have gone to, decorating and stuff… it's being able to share that with someone." She smiles, almost to herself "I wonder if they'll have carollers out and about today…"

***

"What are carollers?" This is after all Rowan's first Christmas. His hand pats her on the shoulder as he steps behind her to avoid a knot of people. Up ahead there is indeed the sound of rather cheerful singing. The Twelve days of Christmas by the sound of it.

***

Smiling at the question, Babs move in the direction of the singing, reaching up to touch Rowans hand in return "C'mon, I'll show you…" and navigates her way through the throng of shoppers in search of the sound she can hear.

***

Rowan keeps a hold of Babs' hand as they move and soon he too hears song. Song on the surface is different from song underwater. Sounds are different, carry differently and harmony is… well a lot more like whales and dolfins. He stops, canting his head to listen. "What are they singing about? Sounds like… gift giving of some manner."

***

Smiling as Rowan keeps hold of her hand, Babs nods "Yes, it is." Babs sighs a little "It's a little difficult to explain the exact origin, but essentially this song is about giving different gifts for 12 days leading up to Christmas day." she shrugs "It's a nice tune and the words are good…"

***

Rowan stands there listening and actually smiling. "It's a nice song. Are all the traditional songs of this holdiy of older provenance? Or do your people create new ones?" He wishes he could relate holiday traditions from his own past but there aren't any, really.

***

Babs actually has to think about that question for a long while. "Most are traditional, if that's what you mean… a large number are also based on religion. Sometimes we create new holidays songs and sometimes we 'remake' the older ones to make them sound more modern." She smiles again "You could hear one song, sung in so many different ways…"

***

"Mmmmmm…" Rowan cants his head once more and then looks down to Babs and gives her hand a squeeze. "What a world it must be where people can devote so much time and energy to feeling good about one another. I could get used to a world like this."

***

Babs laugh softly and squeezes his hand back "I thought you were… getting used to our world" she teases lightly before turning her attention back to the singing "It is pretty special though… and people do try to make an effort at this time of year. I'm glad you like the music…"

***

Rowan frowns in thought. That reminds him. "There was something about… a concert in Central Park in a few days. I do believe it's supposed to be holiday music. Would you like to attend?"

***

That makes Babs laugh… "I believe it's a rather large event, Rowan… yes I would very much like to go, but only if you're going to go with me" she pauses a little "There will be a lot of people there… but it's quite the thing."

***

"Of course I'd go with you." Rowan grins. "If it's a particularly crowded one I might even be able to arrange for… better seating." Benefits of having a friend who can fly. "But going with you would be the point of asking if you'd like to go."

***

Nodding Babs smiles back "Then of course I would like to go… I've never actually been, just heard about it." Looking down the street, she inclines her head, "Shall we keep moving?"

***

Rowan nods. "Yes, let's." He smiles a bit more. "Perhaps we can take in some dinner. Something nice. Anything you've particularly been craving?"

***

As she starts moving again, slowly still holding Rowans hand, a small smile tugs at Babs lips "Well yes, but you might not want to… I would love some good seafood" no she's not teasing, she's serious. "It's something I don't get for myself… and… it would just be different… for me at least…"

***

"I'd enjoy seafood." Rowan chuckles. "You surfacers do so many things to it that we either do not think to do or are not able to do. So many interesting tastes to add to what's usually just raw fish and underwater vegetables. I recently discovered something you all call 'sushi' and that was an experience. I can find us a decent place, I think, if you don't have one in mind."

***

Babs is delighted "Then seafood it is… and yes, we do have many different ways of preparing different food. Sushi is one of my favourites, but not necessarily for dinner." She glances up at the Blue Warrior and beams at him "I don't have anywhere in mind. If you can find a good restaurant, that would be great." Sharing the decisions and thinking appeals to the redhead.

***

"I think I know just the place, and as fortune would have it…" Rowan indicates a direction with his head, still holding Babs' hand. "It's not far." He turns that way, making sure Babs is with him. It'll be a good day for the both of them, he's sure.
