Fenris the Wolf is an imposing creature when he allows himself to be seen as he actually is. He does not ordinarily do this for a variety of very good reasons but when one walking through Terra Incognito - those places that are part of Midgard but not part of Midgard, very special sorts of pocket realm - there's a lot less need. This one in particular is connected to the dreamspace, but not the dreams of men. These are the dreams of the earth, where the wild reigns supreme and in this particular one the dream is that of man's fallen cities being reclaimed by nature. So it is that the Old Wolf stalks through ruined and overgrown Gotham with not a human soul in sight. He's heard that a Troll Mother lives up in these ruins somewhere and needs to speak to her about a certain sect of druids.

***

Constantine stands out in Terra Incognito the way the Wolf stands out in Midgard- he's a man, a creature of ideology and self conception, not the immutable forces of the world itself.

So while Constantine looks and walks and talks like a man, his shadow is more telling than the light reflecting from him as he traverses this part of Dreamspace. The punishing fires of hell, the hidden light of Heaven, and an elusiveness of a man who slips between the cracks of reality at will.

It's all a bit difficult to encapsulate. But John Constantine tromps through the wilds near the Troll Stones like a raging brushfire, as shocking and surreal to the denizens of this place as a demon would be as seen by human eyes on Earth.

***

Zee on the other hand is, quite simply, a young woman. A potentially powerful woman, but she's yet to come to her full power and as such, some may consider her not worth their time. That's quite ok by the young magician and she uses those misconceptions to her advantage.

Whilst Fenris may stalk and John tromps, Zee steps lightly through the same vista even though she's not quite sure why she's been summonsed.

***

It's John that Fenris notices first. The coal black wolf is larger perhaps than any present have ever seen him before, easily the size of a tank. He emerges from the shadow of a crumbling skyscraper overgrown with ivy (symbolism perhaps?) and smirks a little. "Hello there John. You seem to be disturbing the locals…" He pauses and sniffs catching Zatanna's scent on the wind. "And you're not the only one."

***

"Hey Fenris," John says cheerily, his shadowy aspect rippling around him. "You're one to talk. I hear city sanitation works overtime after you've had a jaunt through the boroughs. What brings you to Fraggle Rock?" he asks insouciently, jamming his hands in his pockets. The magician turns and cranes his neck (things like line of sight and distance being kind of philosophical issues), and it doesn't take him long to key in on Zatanna. "Blimey, what's she doing here?" he mutters. He takes a piece of twine from his pocket and murmurs quickly into it, wrapping it around his index finger three times and tying it off. As he does, the roiling, wild shadows of his shadow aspect curl around him, until to even Fenris he 'appears' to be possessed of the same quality as Zatanna, or any other mortal practitioner.

***

Zee hears the voices before she sees the men and looks to find them. She's beginning to realise the qualities of the area she's in, and once she sees them she wills herself to stand before them.

"I believe John" the raven haired woman says with a smirk "I was summonsed here. Does that answer your question." and an eyebrow is raised. The black wolf gets the other eyebrow raised "Fenris," she heard Johns greeting "a pleasure to meet you again."

***

The large black wolf watches with interest as John makes himself appear mortal. It's interesting that in some ways John's illusion of normality is as fragil as Fenris' own. "Hello Zatanna."

Fenris sits and scratches his flank with a hind leg. "In answer to your question John, I'm coming down to speak to the troll mother who used to live here. Though I've not been by in a few centuries. Not entirely sure where she makes her den these days. And what of you two? You say you were summoned oh Child of Shadowcrest?"

***

"Over there," John says, gesturing in a metaphysically useful fashion. He lifts a little hexbag from inside the pocket of his coat and flicks it once into the air and catches it, making it vanish up his sleeve. "Princess Au'syst'sun was having a spot of bother with one of those Goats Gruff harassing her people, keeping them from travelling on the Sunset Bridge. I said I'd work up for her in exchange for a kiss." He eyes twinkle merrily and he can't suppress a lopsided snicker at his own words.

***

Lifting one elegant shoulder, Zee considers the wolf "Well, it's an assumption. I didn't try to be here and yet, here I am. With a God Wolf and …. " she looks to John with an inscrutable look "a Paranormal Investigator." Johns comments regarding fee get a smirk "Selling yourself short, John?"

***

Most might shudder at the thought of kissing a troll mother. John Constantine is probably one of the few people in the world that can reverse that scenario. Even so, it does occur to the god-wolf to wonder why that particular price. "You know I know a few nymphs and battle-maidens if you're really that lonely John." Fenris teases.

"Here by accident? Now that's quite unusual indeed. What were you doing before you arrived?"

***

"The /Princess/, Wolf. The Princess," Constantine corrects, with an upticked finger. "You know. When they're all lithe and green and before they start doing the whole 'one with the earth' thing, mate. Oye, it /has/ been a few centuries since you popped in," Constantine rebukes Fenris, shaking his head.

***

Zee frowns at the exchange between John and Fenris "You thought he meant the Troll Queen?" she smirks "I'm not sure John would…" and the young magician looks back to John, her eyes widening and the sentence isn't finished.

"I wouldn't say accident, Fenris. Just unexpected. I" she flushes a little "Let's just say I might have dozed off."

***

Fenris cants his head slightly. "Clearly not someone who was here the last time I visited." It has been a few centuries yes and the trolless he's thinking of had indeed done the one with the earth thing. But if there's a princess here he might as well talk to her instead. Might get a bit more done. Provided she doesn't try to kill him on sight. He has something of a reputation.

"Well how did she take that offer?"

"You… fell asleep… casting? Or you fell asleep and teleported? Neither of those are particularly good signs."

***

"She's still coming into her power, mate," Constantine soothes Fenris. "Looks to me like she's all here, though. Bit weird dreaming her way in with no clothes on, but I guess when you're still sorting out how to move through the walls of creation… eh, these things happen," he says, with a flippant wave.

***

Zee flush deepens "I was in the bath… I must have dozed off" Looking down at how she's clothed she frowns "I must have teleported, with exceptional self-preservation instincts" Frowning at Fenris "Not a good sign?" the Mistress of Magic maybe a tad skeptical.

***

"Well…" Fenris says with a chuckle at Zee's mild predicament. "If you manage to teleport in your sleep imagine what other things one might do. I suppose it's a good thing that it was teleportation and not a summoning." The Old Wolf figures that if Zatanna wants help with anything she'll ask.

"I do note that you didn't mention how the Toll Princess took your offer of assistance." Really, this oughta be quite a good story. John scares magical things and for good reason. Even Fenris is wary of him and respectful of his abilities. Scared isn't quite the right term but then few things actually frighten Fenris. Comes of being a world ending nightmare.

***

"Didn't I?" Constantine snaps his fingers. "Damn absentminded of me. Well, you know, client-doctor confidentiality," the Brit says airily. "It'll make for a funny story down the road sometime, remind me to tell you /all/ about it. Tell you what-" he snaps his fingers. "I'll put in a good word with the Princess for you when I see her, make sure the Queen Mother isn't spending a few decades communing with a boulder or something. But, if you'll excuse me, I have a kiss to collect," Constantine says, a bit theatrically. "Miss Zatara, always a pleasure," he says, sweeping the woman up in a bow, before turning and heading in a slightly different direction from Fenris, humming happily to himself.

***

Blowing out a breath, Zee looks at the wolf "If I teleported here whilst asleep…." she shakes her head "I don't just teleport, ever, there's normally a reason." Cocking her head at the Wolf her eyes narrow slightly. "I think someone, something, called me as I dozed."

As John walks off to collect his kiss, Zee huffs slightly "Bloody typical" she mutters before turning her full attention to Fenris "Shall I leave too?"

***

"Not at all." The Old Wolf chuckles. "Come, walk with me for a bit and we can chat before I say hello to the Troll Princess. Let's let John have his moment." Beat. "He has so very few." It's clear that Fenris is teasing a bit.

Zee doesn't look like she wants to ''let'' John have his moment but she turns to walk with Fenris. "OK… chat… sure… " the raven haired woman frowns at the wolf "what about?"

***

The time has come, the God-Wolf said, to talk of many things. Of Elder Beasts and Magic Words, and Swords and Wands and Rings. And why the mageling wears fishnets and if the stars can sing. "Oh this and that. I won't be tiresome, promise. You can even ride my back if you like."
