Metropolis. The shining city of the future. Bobby's always impressed when he comes here, by the sleek, clean city streets. So very different from New York and especially Gotham. But every silver lining has it's cloud and no city can escape poverty and urban decay completely. Hence the Suicide Slums of downtown Metro. Not many come here on purpose save those that live and work here. Ordinarily Bobby doesn't come to Metropolis at all except on business, which he kind of has today. Not DCI business mind. This is investigatory business. He's leanred from Sho that there's a Yakuza connection to the plot to destroy the Kinzua Dam in Pennsylvania and while he's not an investigator he has found someone that he thinks is prepared to discuss the matter. Now it's just a question of finding this person. At the moment Bobby's walking along the near empty streets in the mid afternoon, approaching an alley near a dilapidated apartment building which it must be said looks better than he expects. Metro doesn't even do slums the same way.

***

Back in Metropolis, riding in on the back of a friend who had an affinity for the sea.. alright, it wasn't his back. More likely it was by foot and left alone to her own devices. Which she was fine with. The last mix up had her shaken, yet not stirred enough for her to do what she does best.

SCAVENGE!

Twas a challenge being blind, also a bigger challenge being short. But the first ten minutes in this particular alley.. she had found a grate. The next ten minutes? A dumpster. Two minutes later? She climbed atop and tugged her sleeves back from her borrowed shirt, hiked up her borrowed jeans and tightened the belt that too.. was borrowed yet damaged with a poke of a hole to make sure everything /fit/.

Top opened, and then there was a bend.. and a loud *CLANG* as she flips herself inside.

Takeda Seikatsu, you hit paydirt.

***

One of the best things with being a Magician is that transport is generally quick and effective, think of where you want to be and teleport. Well, it is if you're Zatanna Zatara and the teleport spell you cast actually works.

Lately though, Zee's teleports haven't been getting her to the location she's been aiming for, they have been taking her where she's needed… which is why, although she looks a little confused when she appears out of thin air near said alley, she doesn't look surprised to see Bobby heading towards her.

Dressed in leggings, sweater dress and knee high boots, the young magician waves to Bobby "Hey Bobby, what's happening?" and then the loud CLANG has her head turning down the alley and peering.

***

"Assignations." Bobby grins giving Zee a short polite bow. "Actually I'm here to meet-" CLANG. Bobby cuts off and looks down the alley. "Oooookay. Er, hold that thought."

The ice nerd is a bit on guard here. Also curious what could make a dumpster ring like a bell. He hadn't particularly noticed Seikatsu getting up in it nor would he have immediately divined her intent if he had. One hand makes a fist and a moment later a short baton appears in it as he goes to look inside.

Hey! Could be wild dogs or something.

***

Goo. This must be a banana. It smells like a banana, it's mushy like a banana…

In the darkness, Seikatsu sticks out her tongue to..

NOPE! NOPE! NOT A BANANA!

The hood of the garbage can is lifted briefly, tossing whatever the hell she just licked out onto the pavement before it slams shut again. Oh wait.. this is a wrapper. And it has a knot at the end. She brings it to her nose to sniff, smelling nothing, little fingers digging into the plastic to tear open and..

Bread! WOO! Bit moldy, smells minty, that means it's moldy. But nothing fire can't fix.

She was unaware of those outside.. no. Scratch that. She didn't care if someone saw her dumpster dive. But she /was/ unaware of the fact that one was approaching.. with a baton.

***

Zee follows Bobby down the alley, noting the mans unease. As they approach the garbage can and the gooey stuff is ejected, the young magician stops, wrinkling her nose at what's just landed in front of her, splattering her boots slightly.

Looking at the ice nerd, Zee raises an eyebrow "Someone, I think, not something… and possibly not a threat."

***

"Maybe not." Bobby nods in agreement as he lifts the lid of the dumpster and peers inside… just in time to get a plastic bag to the face. Sadly, said bag was not entirely empty and it's with much sputtering and wiping of spent coffee grounds off the face that he finally sees what's been making all that noise.

"Er… hello there…"

***

She smelled coffee. Ugh. And it was wet. She tosses the bag and moves on to dirtier pastures, that was until she felt a gust of air and heard the voices which were a lot more closer than she had guessed. She pauses for a clear moment, then turns her head at a slight tilt, then frowns.

"Hi."

Ayup. That's all she said really, but her body language spoke her true words. She was tense, nearly so much that her shoulders were beginning to nudge her ears.

***

Zee stifles the giggles that happen when Bobby is smacked in the face with the coffee beans "Maybe a bit of a threat then" and she peers into the dumpster herself, eyebrows rising as she sees the tense young woman. "Hello there, I'm Zee… " the raven haired woman is at a loss for words.

***

Dumpster diving. Well you know, you do what you have to do. Bobby is also momenarily at a loss. He's not exactly a child of privilage, but he's never been homeless either, or at least not in the conventional sense of the word. His meeting is momentarily forgotten. "Er, Hey there. Do you… maybe need something to eat?" He's fairly sure there's a McSandberg's within a block or so and, well, the meeting can wait a few minutes. He's not even sure where these guys are at the moment.

***

Well. This was awkward.

She kind of had to figure though, Metropolis being the birth place of happiness and sunshine amongst the mayhem, she'd meet up with two people who seemed rather.. harmless. Thank sweet baby jesus for that.

She waves towards the direction of the womans voice, but the man? She frowns just a little. "I wouldn't be in here if I didn't."

Nice, Seikatsu. Nice.

"Sorry." She immediately says, scooting herself to the side so that she could stand with a hand pressed to the edge of the can, trying for all she might to crawl out of the dumpster without willing assistance and.. toppling right over to hit the ground hard.

***

Zee winces as the other woman hits the ground, looks at Bobby and shrugs. "Would you like some help, there?" The other young woman seems to be quite independant, and Zee knows what it's like to have others impose help on you.

***

"For that matter, er, Zee and I were just about to go grab a bite. Would you like to come? Bobby also stands by to see if the woman wants help up. If she doesn't, well that is her choice. He didn't miss the white eyes though. Woman's blind as a bat. Not a Bat though. Presumably he's not blind. Er… well… nevermind.

***

Seikatsu shakes her head, rolling just a little towards her knees, using the garbage to help herself stand up. "I got it." She tried to sound as neutral as possible. Resting bitch face also came with the bitch tone, and she tried her best to hide it.

"Okay. I will go." They seemed nice enough, and it's rare for people to actually toss change, let alone offer a bit of food to eat. Sure, Barry may or may not have given her some money to buy food, but she was all for saving it.

"Wait. I don't want to impose.. Zee and.."

***

Zee casts an amused glance at the Ice Nerd with raised eyebrows. "Yeah, we were, you won't be imposing. Please join Bobby and I" she offers the other woman. "I'm sorry, what was your name?"

***

Silly Bobby forgetting to introduce yourself. Fortunately Zee played along and covered that base for him. He looks down the street. Yep. McSandburg's. Just a block away. Food's not exactly gourmet but it's hot and calorie packed which, when one is one Takeda Seikatsu, might be a good thing actually. Magic and rummaging both cost.

***

"Reese." She says faithfully. In truth, that was her name. And what almost everyone knows her by, in this time so far.

She smiles just a little in their drection, her hand gesturing so that they could move along. She'd follow, of course, by the sound of their feet.

***

Zee offers the other woman a big smile, even though it won't be seen "Excellent! Pleased to meet you Reese." Looking at Bobby, she inclines her head "After you…"

***

Bobby also smiles and then has to remind himself that no, she can't see it. "This way Reese." He starts to walk at an easy pace. There's no hurry after all. Not at the moment anyway. "Do you live down here, by the way?"

***

For some reason, overly nice and helpful people weird her out. She didn't really know what to say to them in reply, many years upon years of seclusion and wanting to be left alone caused her to be this way. Introverted to the core. But, if she's getting free food from the deal? Play along!

"Nice to meet you two too." She says, with a smile that looks awkward as all get out.

She waits for a moment, listening for footsteps that she could follow, then shuffles along behind them, without her stick, she moved at her own pace. But following others is different.

"Uh. Yes and no. I live everywhere." She pauses. "Do you two?"

***

"No, I don't live here." Zee responds with a smile as she paces beside Bobby. "I'm just visiting for the day." She casts a sidelong glance at Bobby "Met up with Bobby here and we decided to get food together. Happy coincidences really."

***

Bobby nods. "I live in New York. i just happened to be out here for a meeting when I ran into Zee. Ah here we are. Let me get that door for you." Bobby holds the door open until all are inside then steps in himself.

***

Reese waits until the door was open, her hand reaching out to touch along the entrance as she steps in. The immediate smells of the food being cooked hits her hard, hard enough for the empty pit of her stomach to flare to life and sing the song of it's people. Oddly enough, it made her stomach hurt.

"Blugh.." She manages out, keeping herself near the entrance. She really couldn't pick out who's footsteps were who.

"Can I hold someones hand?"

***

Reeses' response on entering has Zee turning to look at her. "Of course" Zee steps back and takes Reeses' hand. "This way, we'll find a table." she murmurs.

Then in a more conversational tone "What do you think you might like to eat? I think I'm going to get something light to start with, take the edge off and the work out what I want after that."The smile doesn't drop as she walks beside the other young woman.

***

Bobby smiles as Zee takes care of Reese and regards the menu. "I'll go order if you guys know what you want." The menu is, well, fairly standard. "We can get some extra too. You know, in case anyone gets hungry later. Do you know this area well Reese? I'm actually looking for someone."

***

She doesn't squeeze too tight when walking with Zee, but she provided a welcome comfort that she hadn't felt in .. days. "I don't know what I want to eat.." Heck, she was so close to Zee, she was surprised that neither of them were bothered by her garbage-y smell. "Maybe a burger with some chilli cheese fries? I haven't had a soda in a while." She's lying. Barry drinks soda. "No no! Orange juice. Orange juice is so good. And really, really addicting. I once drink it so much that I threw up."

For some reason, that memory makes her smile. So does the offering of extras.

Bobby's question gives her a slight shrug. "I know it well enough to get around without help. But I don't know the people much.. and the ones that I do know, well. They're the quiet types. They really don't like to be bothered."

***

"Here we are, take a seat Reese" Zee let's the young woman organise herself and slips into a spare chair "Burger and fries to start with, thanks Bobby. Just water to drink." Looking at Reese when she admits to drinking so much Orange Juice, Zee laughs "Oh really, care to share that story?" Bobby gets another raised eyebrow, he's getting a few of those today.

***

Bobby flashes Zee a grin. "Sure. Soon as I get back." And off the ice nerd goes to get orange juice, burgers, chili cheese fries, chicken sandwiches and all manner of mildly unhealthy food. More than they're gonna need because he's planning on having Reese take some of to go, as it were. This gives the two women a bit of a chance to chat.

***

She takes a seat as directed, moving about until she gets comfortable. As Bobby moves away, she turns an ear to listen to the sounds of the resturant, then begins to speak. "Oh, it's really silly. I was watching television and just wanted something to drink. So, I get orange juice. But it's really, really good. I didn't even bother eating, I just drank almost the whole gallon and felt so sick. You could have sworn that I was turning yellow or some weird shade of orange."

She quiets a little, then mutters. "That won't happen today though. I know better than that."

***

Sitting back in her chair, Zee crosses her legs and relaxes as she listens. When Reese finishes her story, the raven haired chuckles "Well, I can understand how that can happen. Orange Juice is really nice. I've done similar with foods that I like… eaten so much they make sick." Watching for Bobby, Zee smiles again "That normally happens when I've been working too hard or too much."

***

It's about five minutes later when Bobby returns with a couple of trays of food. Still hot! Yes the ice nerd didn't chill anything but the drinks. "So you were asking about me meeting someone here. Allegedly a man named Yoshida was going to talk to me about… ahem, something he thought was a problem. People doing bad things."

***

"Oh, I've done that too. Mostly when I've havent eaten in a few days." Reese genuinely smiles now, feeling a little bit more comfortable. "What do you do for work anyways?" She sits up as she hears Bobby's approach, her hands clasping together as she waits for the trays to be set down upon the table. "Yoshida?" She hadn't heard that name before, mostly having kept to herself and away from most of the locals. "I don't know that name, but what is the problem? Can't you guys just call the police?"

***

As Bobby puts the trays down, Zee gives a quick nod of thanks and then turns to Reese "Oh, I'm a magician, amongst other things. And before you ask, I do pull a rabbit out of the hat!" Zee laughs a little.

Bobbys problem gets a considering look and Zee offers a small smile and incline of her head. The Ice Nerd can explain why the police aren't necessarily an answer.

***

"The police have already investigated." Actually it was the FBI and the Department of Homeland Defense. "But the people who came to us don't think they got the right answer. Could be that they just need reassuring but it turns out there may be something to it." He shakes his head sadly. "And enough people are at stake if that dam goes that it's important to be sure."

***

Reese was totally going to ask, but Zee saved her the trouble of doing so, and since she could pull a rabbit out of a hat? She would like to see it! Though.. she can't. So there's that. Bummer. She reaches out to take a plate, pulling it in front of her, her fingers toying along the edges until she feels the first bump of whatever she grabbed. "Why would the FBI and Homeland Security investigate a possible dam breaking? Shouldn't some other federal department look into that?"

Ooh! Fries! She quickly pops one into her mouth, then begins to chew.

***

Watching as Reese eats, Zee pulls a plate towards her and absently munches on the fries. The burger will come next. Tilting her head towards Reese she grins a little a Bobby "What she said…"

***

"Because it was a terrorist threat. I mean I guess the Department of the Interior could but they're not really law enforcement." Threatening to blow up a Dam gets people's attention… unless the threat is found to be not credible for some reason. "So I asked around and apparently there's a front man for the Yakuza who will answer some questions. Supposedly his folks are involved or so say one of my contacts." Bobby shrugs a bit.

***

Reese was happily munching away and listening to the two talk. If she could see, she'd glance back and forth between the two, looking for answers but.. none of that makes any..

"Ah. The Yakuza." Yeah, Reese knows of them. "It's a trap. Anything dealing with the Yakuza or anyone saying that they know something about the Yakuza is a trap. Don't look for this guy. Find someone who'll listen." Better safe than sorry.

***

Zee sits forward and listens intently. Looking to Reese, Zee chews on her lip "Bobby's not after someone who'll listen, he wants some answers. Why do you say it's a trap?"

Frowing a little at Bobby "And this Yoshida person is the front man?" she clarifies "If it's a trap, you'll need backup."

***

Bobby turns to Reese and cants his head. He'll readily admit he's not an underworld expert. He has people like Sho and Gambit for that. But they're busy and he was in a position to make this meeting. Reese may well know more about this kind of thing. It wouldn't be hard. "What do you know about them?"

***

Reese frowns. It wasn't as if she were protector of all, warning people away from doing something that could get them killed. They could be one of the worlds greats, she wouldn't know. And she was tempted to get herself up and leave.

"Um. Look, kid." Whoops! "If you're asking about the Yakuza, then you really need to leave this to someone with a bit more experience. I know enough to know that anything that they do, I stay clear from. I know enough to know that sometimes, it's really not worth it, whatever it is." She stops eating now, plate pushed forward. "They're not like anyone else out there, they'll probably try to kill you if they think you're sniffing around them. Maybe your buddy is already dead."

***

Bobby nods slowly. He's not looking to get shot at. He may be able to do a lot of 'cool' things but he is fundamentally mortal. Getting shot isn't going to do him any good at all. "Hrm. Maybe I'll ask Sho to handle it then." The ice nerd muses quietly as he eats a burger. "Well might be a good thing I ran into you two today."

***

Zee blinks at the 'Kid' reference and raises an eyebrow. Focussing on her burger, the young magician lets her glance move from Bobby to Reece, as she eats. At Bobbys comment, Zee nods "Sounds like it…"

Reese not eating gets a frown "You can't be full already, Reece. I know I'm still starving and Bobby's bought heaps for us…" Zee encourages gently "Sounds like you've had some experience with that lot." An observation, Reese can speak about it or not.

***

Reese's eyes were in Bobby's direction now. "Maybe. If you weren't going around asking and.. you know, covered your tracks and everything."

She does offer up a tight smile, her hands pressed to the table as she draws herself to a stand. "I know. I just lost my appetite though. Its nothing anyone did or anything just.." She glances around, then forces an even wider smile. "I stink. I think I should make my way back to New York so I can take a bath." She didn't want to admit it, but.. she's been around.. well, she could admit that. She then nods towards Zee. "I've been around."

***

Bobby nods. "Why don't you take the food with you." He says in a gently encouraging fashion as he stands and offers a hand to help guide Reese back to the door. "I mean if you don't use it you may know people who can. And er…" He snaps and looks at Zee. "Hey, can you summon things? Like, can you make writing turn into Braile? I'd like to leave my phone number… and maybe the phone number of someone I bet might like to meet her." Pepper Potts won't mind, right?

***

Zee thinks for a minute and shrugs. "You know, I've never tried… but I'm willing to give it a go." With a flourish of hand, she pulls a notepad and pen from thin air and passes it to Bobby "Write them down, and I'll add my number to it as well, then see what I can achieve."

***

"Really?" Reese asks.. "Okay.." She wasn't going to pull anyones arm. She could put a person out of a house and home if she tried.. in fact, there would be no trying at all. It takes her a bit of a moment to actually gather the food, wishing for a little sack or even her old trusty shopping cart to drag her food around in. Now that she thinks about it.. that too.. was in New York. She needs to find her water friend again.

"You guys are really nice, you know that?" For some reason, that just made her frown. "You guys gotta be careful with that."

***

"Well, most of the time I prefer to err on that side." Most of the time, Bobby thinks. There are definitely exceptions. He writes his own number down, and Pepper's, and hands the pad back to Zatanna for her to write her own down. "Don't hesitate to call, right? Especially if we hit a nasty cold snap." Cause it'd be bad really if she got hurt or worse because she didn't have a properly heated place to sleep.

***

After writing her number on the pad, Zee thinks for a moment and grins at Bobby. "Well, here goes" and concentrating hard, speaks:

~ nruT ehT gnitirW nO ehT daP oT elliarB ~

And, the writing on pad turns to Braille. Smiling broadly, the young magician tears the page off and hands it to Reece. "There you go, I hope that it worked properly. And, thank you, I try to be nice and I'm generally careful."

***

She could understand that. It's a lot less work to be nice than it is to be mean. Plus being mean would get people grey hairs.

She tucks the bag beneath her arm and feels the air for the paper, carefully taking it from Zee's hand and nods to them both. "I'll call. Winters are usually tough but there's a community in New York .. well, I call it a community. Just a bunch of us homeless gathered around barrels and stuff in a warehouse." She doesn't shrug that one off, some of them were good people. "Um.. thanks for the food and.. bye?" She hated goodbyes, it was almost like she'd never see them again. But with that, she ambles out the door, keeping close to the wall as she slowly shuffles on.
