Fenris has this habit of… showing up places. Sometimes he portals into places but just as often he walks mostly unseen thruogh the masses of humanity. Often his matters of concern are magical, relating to a hidden world that exists along side but separate from the normal one and it is such business that brings him to Kate's Shelter, or rather the Elanor Bishop Memorial Shelter for Battered Woman (or so the sign says, he thinks) with an… apple?

See word has it that there's a sick Nymph hiding out here and while he doesn't ordinarily do much but hunt his hunting grounds, he does regard the people there as his and when the Nymph's sister had come to beg him for help, he consented and took a side trip to… elsewhere to acquire a fruit that would do the trick.

Trouble is, well, he's a man, approaching a battered women's shelter and he feels creepy as hell even if one can't quite put their finger on why.

***

Which is why the woman at the front desk called Kate from the back office. She may not be out as Hawkeye here, but she teaches self defense classes, and it's well known that she can hold her own if she needs to. When Kate sees who it is, though, she smiles crookedly, throwing on a jacket and jogging out to meet the God-wolf. "Speak of the devil," she calls over. "Do I need to be on the lookout for trolls next?"

***

Nyx picked up on Fenris when he started walking in the open to the shelter. She notices things like very …. predatory gentleman. A super duper creepy predatory guy. Big too. Skeeetchy. Then he up and heads into the woman's shelter. Okay creep factor to 11 out of 10 as far as she is concerned. She carefully steps in after Fenris keeping her eyes on his back now.

***

"Not unless you've recently built a bridge." Fenris chuckles dryly. "I'm here to see Arachne." Yes, the nymph in question has an unusual name and didn't feel the need to change it. It made her easier to track down after he'd gotten his prize. No don't ask what it is or where he got it.

Nyx hadn't really pinged Fenris' radar, but Fenris might be pinging hers for other reasons. He's magical and certain hyper advanced systems might at least be able to read him as 'unknown'.

***

"Of course you are," Kate laughs, shaking her head with a roll of her eyes. "I really need to do better intake screening or something. Or maybe I should just be flattered that women from that side of the street think we're safe enough for shelter." She pauses, tilting her head. "Is there some sort of high council of mythical things? We should get recognized. Or something." Clearing her throat, she refocuses. "I think she's in the reading room right now, if you wanted to drop it off."

***

Nyx does indeed sense the Creepy Wolf. The subsystems, well magic and science and famous quotes. Transdimensional or Extradimensional is the best ping vibe, which it is quite interested in with all of the recent events. She slides to the side keeping an eye on Fenris since Kate seems to know him and asks "Is everything okay in here?" stepping into view now.

***

Nyx finds herself the sudden recipient of the Old Wolf's full regard which is a little bit standing under a very bright, hot, uncomfortable spotlight that you're fairly sure is moonlighting as an X-Ray and has a dirty imagination. Which is to say, it's intense and uncomfortable. But the sensation only lasts for a moment. "I think so. Is it, Kate?"

"Mmmm… well, as you like it. It can be problematic but there's also a lot of grateful Valkyrie's, Nymphs, Dryads and what not that owe you favors. There's no… Council or anything. I could always formally put your place under my protection but… you've not really seemed to need it and I didn't know if you'd want it necessarily."

***

"As safe as I can make it, at least. You should see the new security system Pepper helped us put in," Kate smiles crookedly at Fenris. "Really nice. Oh, hey Nyx," she greets the other girl, surprised. "Yeah, we're fine. Nyx, this is Jeremiah Wolfson. Mister Wolfson, this is my friend Nyx."

***

Nyx gives Fenris the eye, sure it is uncomfortble, and looks away after a momnet. She eyes him sidelong and then nods "Okay… he .." she eyes Fenris again "He seemed very…. sketchy. No offense I guess, just not someone Id have imagined had good intent coming onto a shelter…" she shrugs a tad. "Hello Mr. Wolfson." she can't help but think the name fits.

***

"Hello Nyx." Fenris' voice is a deep, rumbling thing that's an echo of the way it is in his actual shape. "You sound as though you were expecting me, Kate. Let me drop off Arachne's medicine and you can tell me why." His lips quirk up in a smile. "And Nyx can make sure I do you no harm. Pardon me."

The tall man slips down a hallway and into the reading room. Gone for the moment.

***

Kate watches after Fenris for a moment before looking back to Nyx, smile quirking. "He can't help it," she says, almost fondly. "It's sort of…part of his nature. But no one here is in any danger from him. He's a good friend, actually." Then again, almost anyone Kate meets is a good friend to the archer. "What's brought you out this way, though? Don't tell me you've been tracking Fenris across the city?"

***

The other young woman stairs down the hallway after him "I do live in this town.. but yes… I may have been following him for quite some time…." Nyx looks back to Kate "He struck me as a .. bad man" she almost said super villain but who knows if Kate would want that talk in the lobby here "or at least a murderer or something…. and he … very …" sort of paues and squints "Something off about him.. just a gut feeling he isn't from around here… so you are positive he is a .. uh decent guy?"

***

Fenris returns less an apple, shutting the door quietly behind him. "She's resting now. Should be up and about in a day or so. Would you like to do this in the conference room? I get the feeling this may not be for all ears, mmm?" That Fenris knows where the conference room is may or may not be a good thing in Nyx eyes.

***

"Probably not by nature," Kate admits. "But by choice? One of the best." There's no doubt in her voice, only complete confidence in the strange, admittedly creepy man. When he returns, she turns a crooked smile on the man. "Nothing we have to talk about right now, honestly. But when you've got some time, there are things…Clint sort of had a run-in with someone from your side of the woods. It's, ah," she coughs, "On youtube. But I was hoping you could shine some light on things."

***

Nyx eyes Fenris and then relents a bit and gives him another odd. She doesn't take her eyes off him though, cause well. Damn. But she does seem to ratchet it down a couple notches there. "Im not the only one on youtube this month…. did he knock my trending off I hope?"

***

"I have to confess I've not been watching it either." The Old Wolf sticks his hands in his pockets and lets Kate lead where she will. He does nod suddenly at Nyx. "That's why you looked familiar. Yes." Oh gods. He's seen that video.

"Maybe you can give the cliffs notes, Kate?"

***

"If he hasn't, I've got a feeling he will," Kate coughs back a laugh. "He got hit with-" Snicker. "Something that made his clothes disappear." Kate is an awesome friend, really. Totally supportive. But come on, that's funny! She clears her throat, looking back to Fenris. "Apparently you've got family in town," she summarizes.

***

Nyx goes through several emotions, first there is a look of resigned dread at Fenris when he recognizes her. Then what Kate says sinks in and she turns her head slowly back to the archer and just stares for a moment then pumps her fist "yes!"

***

Something that made his clothes disappear. Fenris knows only two people who could have done that. One lives in New York and the other he hasn't seen in a while. "Okay then. Well that must have been a sight. Does he need his clothes back? I recommend a good tailor."

***

"I brought him fresh clothes," Kate chuckles. "And I've been trying to get him to go to a decent tailor for years. Sometimes, for a special occasion, I can drag him out. Actually, he did wear a decent suit for- Well." Her smile quirks, and she flushes slightly. "Anyhow. I've got a class starting up in a couple of minutes," she says, pointing a thumb toward the shelter. "So I should get going. I'll call you later, Fen- Mister Wolfson? You're welcome to join for the class if you want, Nyx."

***

Nyx does look curious about this familiar member of Mr. Creepy, but she pulls her attention back around to Kate "Class about what.. I mean if you think I should or could help or something…"

***

Fenris quirks an eyebrow but doesn't pry. If Kate wants to tell him, she'll tell him. "Alright then, Kate. You've got my number, just ring and I'll come a-runing. Well probably a portaling. Before I go is there anything that needs done around here?" Translation, is there anyhting that needs a big bad wolf to bite it?

***

"Self-defense classes," Kate clarifies for Nyx. "I run them here regularly. It helps with confidence for the women, and if anyone tries to mess with them later on, they're better prepared. And I think we're all right here, actually," she adds with a grateful look to Fenris. "For once. Thank you, though. And I'll be in touch."

***

Nyx gives Fenris a skeptical look at the portaling comment and then she nods to Kate "Sure it couldn't hurt on many.. many levels I'm sure."

***

Fenris actually doesn't leave right away. When Nyx gets done he's talking to a tall, dark haired, medeterranian looking woman. A very, very, very pretty one. The conversation is quiet but as the woman leaves she seems to be both pleased and relieved.

***

Nyx slips out of the shelter after the self defense class Kate was teaching, she has her hoodie back on now because it is cold, right. Not that she sweated much. She pauses when she spots the Mr. Wolfenson talking to someone and eyes him.

***

Wolfson eyes back, his eyes more curious than hostile. He turns, squaring to her and motions her over. It's more an invitation than a command. She's got guts… and she smells really, really, really damn odd.

***

Nyx glances at Old Wolf and then steps over to him when he gestures her over. Trying to remind herself that Kate says he is quite the decent person really. "Hello again, still here?"

***

"Still. And you are too I see." The wolf breathes in deep and lets it out slow. "I think I have rather the same question for you that you do for me: What are you. You're not human, or at least not entirely so. I've scented plenty and none smell quite like you."

***

Nyx blinks, okay that was not at all what she was expecting from him really. "I.. ehr…" she pauses and frowns at him. "I mean sure I'm not normal, I'm a Superhero…" he saw the horrible videos. "But I was born and raised a New Yorker…. and you?"

***

"Born… well in a place not around here and raised there too. And old enough to remember when no one had ever heard of New York. Or New Amsterdam. Nor am I quite normal which is why I think you keep giving me… mmm… what's the phrase, the Stink Eye." The Wolf Grins.

"Mmmm but you smell like… something I've not scented in many, many centuries. Magic… ferromancy not of this sphere."

***

Nyx looks skeptical at the sniffing talk. "Well… that is.. really old.. I think.. New Amsterdam was like the colony right?" she nods lightly "You.. seem really creepy… probably not your fault if Kate is right about you and yeah… I got the feeling you weren't from around here." she shakes her head "Ferromancy… um.. no I am pretty certain I am not magical."

***

Fenris laughs at that. "Ever heard of Arthur C. Clark? He once said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. That's more true than you think. In some places the words are synonymous. You scent of it. Though none I'm familiar with."

Ah yes, the creepy. "You sense a predator, Nyx. Which I am, make no mistake. But not one you need worry about."

***

Nyx considers this "Oh… like Science is magic if it is like super science…" she . is not very well read at all. "I guess that is probably true.. I have a lot of science these days.. and it isn't from around here. Well…if you're aren't going to hurt Kate or anyone here, okay then. You don't strike me much as a good guy but.."

***

"I'm not. I'm a monster. I'm an old, civilized, polite, territorial monster. Your senses tell you true." Fenris' look could be mencaing for a moment… if it didn't look so tired. "But I mean no one here any harm and I'll fight to protect those whom I consider worth protecting. Kate is a good woman. A heroine in the old sense of the word. She has the potential to do much good… or much harm. Either way, I count her a friend."

***

Nyx nods lightly "She is definitely great.. her and a couple others have been really helpful and encouraging as I try to get my bearings … because superheroing is not something you are just good at without practice."

"And is that what you have decided to do Nyx? Be a hero?" The wolf chuckles. "Did you choose your name, by the way, or was it given to you?"

***

Nyx nods "Sure, I mean… I may have been convinced to be a hero but it does seem to be the right thing.. even if I mess it up sometimes I am helping people right." she tilts her head "I.. uh picked it… why?"

***

"I was wondering if you new what it meant. One of my few friends among the Olympians and I've not seen her in many a year." Nyx, the one Fenris knew, was the Night. Yes that's Batman's line but she really was. Glimpsed only in shadows, a being of beauty and power and kindess. "A heroic homage to her is fitting."

***

She already has proved herself to be pretty much the opposite of well read. "Hum.. okay I will really need to do some googling later and learn what I can about this then… Wait.. friends among the Olympians… for real?"

***

Fenris gives Nyx a tight lipped grin. "Why yes. I remember when they were a lot more accessible than they used to be. They come down the mountain back then from time to time. Not so these days. Not in many a long year." Many a few hundred long years really. Their age has passed and has not yet come again. "Does that surprise you?"

***

Nyx nods, not afraid to admit it is a bit shocking there "uhm.. yeah.. I mean sure you said old… and you aren't from around here.. but.. where are you from then and how old are you?"

***

Fenris grins. "Ancient. Two thousand years on this sphere and more besides elsewhere. I was born in a realm only remembered in legend by your kind. Asgard, they called it."

***

It takes Nyx a moment then she ooohs "Norse… like Thor!" she looks you over "Woah…. um.. which one of the Norse guys are you then?"

***

Ah Uncle Thor. Still popular among the people here. Well, that's all well though Fenris hasn't seen the thundering one in some time. "Yes, rather like Thor."

***

"Oh me?" The Wolf grins. "I'm the Suneater. The Odinsbane." Okay, he hasn't kenned to how not well read she is. She might be able to look that up though. Heck, maybe she'll like the read…

Or maybe not.

***

Nyx considers that "The .. suneater… well.. Im not familiar." she nods "Nice to meet you Suneater Odinsbane." like maybe that is how it works

***

The Great Wolf laughs. "Try Fenris. Or The Fenris. Ask the great oracle Google. It'll tell you." Or not. Either way he shrugs. "Need a ride?" He asks as he's tearing open a portal.

***

Starts to open her mouth to protest but something stops her, more portal readings will be very, very useful "Yeah.. up to M-Town would rock… I plan to patrol for a bit." Nyx smiles now.

***

Fenris bows and the portal shifts slightly. "M-Town it is. Good luck tonight and here's hoping for a not too dull evening for you, mmm?" He figures Nyx wants a little action and coming from a society where all young warriors wanted to test themselves, that's not such a bad thing.

***

Nyx laughs "It is already an exciting evening… I mean not often you meet a mythical norse god and get the fast trip to your next stop due to magic.. magic science right?" she grins and will step through the tear.
