Jericho has, ever since discovering the very creepy documents in a HYDRA hideout detailing trouble for some of his friends, been talking to a lot of his allies about things like you know, not getting kidnapped or ritualistically murdered. However he's well aware that this isn't always the best arrangement. His friends need to be able to talk to eachother without having to go through him. Especially given HYDRA's renewed interest in killing or capturing him. Illyana is the best magical resource they have and an expert on the kinds of black magic that you'd need to summon demons and other things the snakes are likely to be into.

More than that though Illyana is a part of Jericho's life. A few months back introduced him to some of the more public X-Men because he was part of hers. Jericho wants Illy to meet the Outsiders for the same reasons.

So it's at once both business and social. Jericho appears with the usual flash of violet light in the teleportation chamber and nods to K'tten. He doesn't usually ask K'nert to disk him up here, though he knows it works (don't ask why). Mostly that's a courtesy thing at least for him. Partly it's a 'how to not get beat up by a suspicious Orn and K'tten' thing too. They get a bit protective of the ship.

-

For that reason Illyana went ahead and let herself be transported by the Evil Tech. She totally understands getting twitchy when folks let themselves into your space and while she doesn't know the Outsiders well enough for their annoyance to matter to her all that much, Jericho's feelings matter quite a bit to her. And the Outsiders matter to him. It's a whole complicated thing.

The blonde sorceress is decked out in black leather today, very much not her X-Men outfit. Thick-soled boots climb all the way to her knees with silver skulls that serve as the buckles, leather pants that ride low on her hips and a length of silver chain wraps twice around them in a non-functional belt sort of way. The ends are clasped together by a styleized wolf's head that rests against the inside curve of one hip. Her top is high-collared and long-sleeved but leaves part of her midriff bare and a fairly large knife is sheathed horizontally at the small of her back with the hilt just visible above one hip.

Long blonde hair is at odds with the agressive black leather, but the chilly blue eyes are right at home as Illyana looks around their arrival spot. "Creeps me out." She remarks of the teleportation process.

-

Being aboard the Starfire made for some -easier- means of tracking down people without having to account for the usage of said property to Checkmate… or more appropriately, to the Wall. Already in enough hot water as it was by having dealt with Baroness at one point and wanting to avoid getting embroiled in answering pointed questions, Roy simply traded off one menace for another; working on the computers with the overbearing glare of K'tten on him.

Looking up, Roy quirks an eyebrow at Jericho. "Yo, Jeri…" he greets, pausing to eye the blonde next to. "Who's the blond dominatrix…?"

-

"You're not the only one." Jericho murmurs as he steps off the pad. The teleportation devices roil the magic inside him and leave him feeling unsettled where disking feels natural which is probably a commentary on how adapted to Limbo he's getting. Of course he might also mean May, whom he's site-to-site teleported before. She's not horribly fond of it either, he gathers.

"Hello Roy. This is Illyana. She's my… mmm, girlfriend is probably the easiest way to explain it." Jericho's found that unless one is prepared to answer a lot of questions, most folks don't quite understand the way the two of them relate. Familiar isn't a relational word in most folks' lexicons. If Illyana herself wants to go into more detail, she can. "She's helping us with this HYDRA mess, since they're using magic and that's her field of expertise."

-

"Sorry, you're out of luck. I don't do it professionally." Illyana says in a slightly mocking drawl as she smirks over at Roy.

That chilly gaze sweeps the room as she steps down, taking in the ship before coming back over to Roy as Jericho 'introduces' her. The 'girlfriend' bit gets a soft huff of amusement but she doesn't try to explain it any more. Really, it just is. "Black magic and demons, that's me."

-

"Easiest way to explain it…?" Giving Jericho a thumbs up gesture, Roy hits the screen lock, turning around to more fully face the duo.

Casting a frank accessing look at Illyana, Roy nods. "So, demons and magic. Got to admit, I like the black metal look. Didn't think Jeri was into -that-, but can't fault him for his tastes," he grins. "So, Jeri's filled you in on this stuff, obviously. What've you got?"

-

Actually it's kind of the other way 'round. Jericho mentioned the problem to her shortly after he discovered it. Illyana had been the one to point him at the Mayan power sites and once she did he'd been certain that he needed to have her involved in this. HYDRA using magic isn't new, per se. The hacker's been aware that they have mages since the end of the virus incident but using magic in this particular fashion is definitely a step up (down?) for them.

Rather than add anything though Jericho just flicks his blade case a couple of times idly and folds his arms, glancing over at Illyana with a grin. She's the best at this. He's more than pleased to let her work Roy through the issues.

-

"Not his usual fare, but I've been known to drag him to a few concerts. It's good to have a… broad appreciation of things." Illyana says, that smirk lingering on her lips.

At Roy's question, Illyana moves over to find a seat. Somewhere she can put her feet up, her manner a casual sort of sprawl as though she were the host and not the visitor. "By all accounts HYDRA's got its fingers in a lot of pies, which goes with the mythology as well, so it's not too surprising that they've got some Practitioners. Also not surprising that they're on the dark side of the spectrum. We ran into the one when dealing with the virus and some of the other groups reported demons that by all acounts weren't mine. But that was some pretty straight-up Black Magic and demon summoning. This? They're tapping into old Mayan lines of power. I'm not sure if they've got someone inventive using the old system or someone with their roots in the old magics that are using them for a new direction. Either way, it could have some nasty repercussions beyond being used to kill and/or corrupt their targets."

-

"Mayan lines of power…?" Roy frowns. "Is that anything like ley lines…?"

Leaning back in his chair, Roy digests that, before looking back at Jericho. "So, maybe it's not just probability manipulators, but people who tap into the Earth's lines of power?"

His gaze returns to Illyana, considering her feet being all sprawled out before he shifts the look to her face. "So what sort of stuff do we need to be prepared with when running into demons and black magic, holy water? Crosses? Garlic?"

-

"It's usually not that easy to defend people against this kind of magic." Jericho says quietly. K'tten has gotten that 'I'm not sure what you're talking about and I'm gonna want to pick your brain over it later' look. Always curious. The hacker finds a chair and reverses it to sit down so that his blade case can stay behind him. "It could be plenty bad though, as she says. You're in a government agency, Roy. Imagine if someone got to your department head with this stuff."

To provide visuals Jericho remotely accesses the room's holoprojector and calls up a map of major known Mayan sites with lines linking them in a kind of crazy grid. The ones with sevral lines running into them, the major hubs in other words, are highlighted.

-

"Yep." Illyana answers Roy about the ley lines. Hey, not everyone knows about them. "They're sort of like the Earth's circulatory network, some major, some minor and magic is both fed into and drawn out of them. Magic has a… flavor. It's still the same stuff but the source can change its properties some. So the lines that we fed by Mayan blood magic aren't always useable by say, a Celtic druid. Not without some work, anyway."

Illyana's manner is casual, but she's packing a lot of information into the conversation that's so very not casual. "I'm worried that they're not only drawing on the pre-established Mayan power network, but they're retuning it to their own dark magics. They're not just using the lines and sites of power, they're using the trappings of Mayan magics too. If they do that, even people oblivious to magic will start to be affected as the 'flavor' of the power grid affects the area. Think of it how people are supposed to heal better if they have a nice view instead of hospital walls. Magic affects people, without them ever being aware of it."

The blond reaches over towards Jerchio as he sits down within her arm's reach, idly running her fingertips down his back while watching Roy's reaction to her words.

-

"I think it already happened once. It's not out of the realm of probability it could happen again," Roy responds, even as he shifts his attention towards the outlines. "I remember some of this stuff… the Hopewell tribes built roads along the same lines, although they called them spirit lines." Shifting his attention to South America, Roy considers whether or not the Nazca lines were highlighted. "You don't need to be in a trance to see them?" he asks Illyana, canting his head. A bit different from the shamanic training he'd observed under his 'father'.

-

Jericho's traces start to flush red where Illyana is stroking his back as they absorb magic. "The Mayans were accomplished mathematicians too." He points out. "And they used it in their 'prophecies' which, best I understand, gives another 'flavor' to the local lines. That'd explain why they were using them to do divinations on their enemies." Whether they did anything else, like try to affect probability to make those divinations became reality he doesn't know but highly suspects.

"It also explains why they're linking that project to Lunair's old project. What better way to raise agents and operatives than soaked in blood magic that you command?" He shakes his head a little as the red glow spreads from his back to his neck and arms and chest. "And if they were to taint the well with magic of their own choosing…" He glances back at Illyana, remembering the image she showed him. "We already know they're making use of some non-native twists to the native trappings."

-

Illyana gives Roy one of those smirks again. "I don't need to be in a trance to see them. But I'm not exactly a minor practitioner." Jericho knows that's something of an understatement but Illyana doesn't need to crow her own praises. Also, then it's just more confusing to people why she's so crippled magic-wise on Earth.

Illyana nods over to Jericho as he adds in his own two cents. "It's a good choice to subvert to their needs. Blood magic even at its most benign shares a lot in common with black magic."

-

Jericho chuckles. He knows better than possibly anyone how powerful Illyana really is. He can sense the magic in her without even trying. And when in Limbo… well, that's an order of magnitude greater. He can also get some hint of the will that keeps that magic in check, prevents it from consuming either her or everything around. And that in his opinion is even more amazing than the magic itself.

"And it explains why they decided to try to pick up Lunair's old 'classmates'. Maybe they think they can 'bring them around.'" Always with the controlling people, HYDRA. It's usually not so overt but boy when they find a way do they ever pounce on it.

-

Holding his hands up, Roy flashes a grin. "Ok, ok. I guess believing is seeing," he adds, as he looks towards Jericho. "And… wait, question. If you're thinking they're going to pick up Lunair's old classmates… wouldn't they be trying to pick up Lunair herself…?"

-

Illyana give a low laugh at Roy's comment. "That's something usually only the magical or the faithful say. So which are you?" Illyana's qestion comes with what he might quickly realize is her habitual smirk and an arched brow.

"So to what can hurt them? The mages themselves are still human. A good blade's your best bet. Or maybe lightsabre or whatever." She says with another glance to the spaceship. "Even most demons aren't going to be too put off by holy items unless you've got some serious Faith to back it up with. And garlic's only gonna help if you plan on scaring them off with bad breath."

-

"Bullets tend to work okay but the nastier they get the more you're gonna need." Jericho speaks with some confidence on that one having been involved in a demon battle or two. "I tend to use this…" He taps the blade case hanging off his shoulders. "But it's got… something behind it."

Lunair's mention gets a grim nod. "Yeah… I'm sure they'll make a play for Lunair. They had her under some kind of survielance, possibly magical, as recently as a week ago." The implications, clearly, are not things he cares for.

-

"Definitely not magical… shamanic hoodoo isn't my thing. Tried it once and accidentally burned off Brave Bow's brows trying to make a potion work…" Roy replies with a counter-smirk of his own.

Pausing to consider his options about swords and faith, Roy makes a so-so- gesture. "How about silver bullets? If we're going to keep an eye on Lunair at least, she can help us out with that."

-

The look Illyana gives Roy is almost pained. "They're not werewolves. Silver bullets aren't going to be very helpful. Well, more than usual bullets. Which will work great on the mages and less so on the demons. They tend to have thicker hides."

-

Jericho nods. He, Illyana and Roy are all setting in the command center of the Starfire, this being Illyana's introduction to the Outsiders. Well, one of the ones she doesn't know anyway. "We've never seen demons in numbers from these guys either, well, yet anyway. What we do tend to see is a few big nasty ones. I'd guess they have some issues summoning and controlling small numbers of them. And I doubt they'll send demons after Lunair or the like unless they get desperate. Not their MO, really. They'll use mages and regular operatives. Maybe curses and binding spells. They've tried that on me before." It didn't work, but they tried.

-

"Weren't you just saying something about -faith- mattering? If silver bullets work better, then they work better," Roy responds, with an eyebrow arched.

"Right then… do we know who else was in Lunair's 'class'?" he asks, after glancing at Jericho.

-

"Magic's rules are slippery. You can't borrow the force of your Fatih if A) your Faith isn't True Believer level and B) if the Faith you're backing something up with doesn't believe in the tenent. Most Faiths these days don't have a lot of demon provisions." Illyana answers Roy.

Dressed in a whole lot of black leather and silver chains, Illyana's found somewhere to sit that she can put those heavy boots of her up. "If they're sticking to fewer bigger, badder demons then that means they could be bargining with them over pure control. And demons love loopholes that let them turn on their summoner."

-

Demons are something that Nan knows nothing about. However, the very person she would ask about such matters is right in the room and giving her expert advice. Nancy leans back and listens, ready to do whatever she is told to.

-

Jericho blinks as Nan just sort of arrives. Dang. She's getting quiet. "Hey Nan. I just brought Illyana up to introduce her to the others, since she's going to be helping us with this. The X-er's are kind of involved anyone since Lunair stays with them most nights."

"And they have agendas. Illyana, is it going to matter where they're getting their demons from? I've already seen them pull out things that don't look even remotely like anything from back home." By which he means Limbo. Yes, he did just refer to it as home.

-

Lunair is about, likely somewhere nearby. School's out for winter break and she's not feisty enough to be wandering alone a lot. She's slightly wiser than that. But that means she's probably limited to letting folks know where she is and all. Today, she managed to make it to a bakery and back. The smell of German chocolate, milk chocolate surrounds her. She's got a box with her. And then she wanders in, to hear chat of demons. She pauses. Oh dear.

-

"Nan," Roy greets, before considering Illyana. "So, is it too much to hope they'll turn on Hydra…?"

Spying Lunair, Roy calls out, "Hey! Lun! Get your butt in here… is that chocolate?""

-

"Oh, they'll turn on 'em if they can. But that doesn't mean that they're then on our side. A demon is always on a demon's side. The enemy of my enemy is not always my friend." Illyana answers Roy. Nancy gets one of Illyana's faint smiles and a nod by way of hello before Jericho's question calls her back to the matter at hand. "Not terribly. If we do find out, it might give us some leverage. Their particular weaknesses and strengths, but for the most part demons are demons."

-

Nancy has to snort at this. "Well, if their demons, we could just send me over to talk to them. They'll love me. Maybe for lunch, but they'll love me." She smirks and winks over at Illyana.

-

Jericho nods thoughtfully. Demons are demons was one of his first lessons in dealing with Limbo and one that he learned quite viscerally when he got involved in a pitched battle during one of his early gardening excursions. "Hey there Lunair. Come on in. You know Illyana right?" Or at least know of her. Neither are really social butterfly types but the two have probably at least seen one another around a certain Mansion.

"In either case the demons are more or less muscle. Some might have more unusual abilities but what we're really concerned with is the mages and what they want. All that divination and magical manipulation is building to something. Probably more than one something. Hydra always has plans within plans."

-

Illyana nods in agreement with Jericho. "Magic users don't summon demons that are thinkers. It's too easy for them to out-think the mage and turn on them. You can almost bet on them being all grr and little else."

The leather-clad blonde nods over to Lunair. Even though she graduated some four or five years ago from Xavier's, like most of the mutant kids she shows up around the mansion on occasion.

-

Lunair is kind of a social butterfly. The kinda butterfly you see hovering, fluttering then WHAM. Right into something before it lands in someone's tea. Best butterfly. Nevertheless, demons tend to fall into the 'shoot it, douse it with holy water or run like hell (no pun intended)' categories. Lunair is quiet, until spoken to. She smiles. "In passing," She offers. She's one of the more wandering-y students given that she's one of the mutants fortunate enough to pass as long as she doesn't start zotting people with the Nudity Ray or the Twerker.

Unless of course, she were at a rap concert. Ahem. "How are you guys? I wish I knew more about demons." Pause. "Although there's not much I can do about them. And yeah, I wanted a chocolate pie, sorry. Did you want some?"

-

"Sure… though I should point out, Lunair, that we were talking about you a bit, as HYDRA was after you… maybe." Roy glances over at Jericho. "Anyway, Lun, do you still have connections with anyone else from your… 'class'?"

-

Congratulations Lunair. You've just topped the list for least disastrous introductions of one of Jericho's friends to another. Seriously. They don't tend to go well. Doesn't matter who it is. "Don't wish, Lunair. That's why I asked Illyana to help us." He hadn't had to ask much, actually. Just said that he'd love to have her involved and she agreed it was something she should be involved in.

"And why she came here to meet you all. Didn't want one of those friendly fire things like we had in Syria and anyway you all should meet her, since, you know, we live together."

-

"Treasure your ignorance. It really can be bliss when dealing with demons." Illyana assures Lunair. Her lips quirk as Jericho notes that they live together. Hopefully Nancy's the only one that's gonna make with the groaning and whatlike.

-

Lunair tilts her head at Roy. "Not really. I can contact Susan probably because she runs a juice company. I'm a bit leery because she got the freaking mind zappy powers." And mind control. Lunair's so not a fan. "But we got along pretty well. And really? No wonder my ears were on fire." Pause. "No, wait…" It's burning. "Well, most things don't like being shot, so it's okay," She offers. "It's a pleasure to meet you again."

She trusts Illyana and goes with it. Lunair is easy going. She glances to Nancy too, though.

-

Nancy is beyond groaning about the fact that her brother and her best friend have hooked up. It's just easier that way. "She means it, Lunair. And if a demon is being friendly, don't believe it for an instant. Seriously. Demons are *not* nice. Ever."

-

"Demons are demons." Jericho agrees with Nancy, echoing Illyana just moments before. "But like I said I'm confident you guys can handle that part." Mostly. Demons are tricky is lesson number two of that cirriculum. "And we've got help for the rest." The hacker leans back, quiet for the moment, watching the others talk and interact. He's already said pretty much everything he needs to and the others seem to accept Illyana so all's going well. There's a couple missing but Kori and Jake can catch up later if they end up winding down before they get here. Which they might. Neither he nor Illyana are hugely social creatures.
