A Fistbump From Batgirl

Summary:
January 02 2015: Oracle spots the Fox in Battergate and sends Batgirl and Misfit to investigate

Battergate Park

The Parks in Battergate are overgrown and poorly kept and often host drug deals. Tonight they're hosting something worse.

Battergate. Nowhere in Gotham is a place more appropriately named than here. It really does look as if someone took a medieval siege engine to a lot of this place. The parks are ill kept and overrun with criminals, the buildings crumbling and there's a general sense of hopelessness that prevades the entire neighborhood even more than most of Gotham. This is particularly true at night (or as may be the case here, the very early morning) when the night and the hopelessness closes in.

The crime itself doesn't really get Kane's attention. It's who's doing it. The Ton Ton Macoute and the Silver Syndicate have been engaged in a turf war in Battergate and the former has taken to kidnapping residents and applying some of that voodoo that they do to them to create shock troops and enforcers. Black magic, if fairly minor stuff. The word of it has gotten back to a certain lone Druid who presently is moving along the rooftops near one of the overgrown parks, looking for one particular Bocor. Someone he's quite sure won't be alone.

-

Oracle is her tower, well the Gotham Clocktower watching her screens and helping the teams on the ground put down crime. Tonight's been the usual mix of petty crime and violent, nothing overly special although the Information Goddess of Gotham is watching for three things specifically: Unusual SRD activity; HYDRA activity; and the activity of a certain druid who showed up the scene just before New Years.

Her feeds show her a flicker of someone moving along a rooftop in Battergate and she zooms in as much as possible to get a better look whilst putting the call out to Misfit and Batgirl, both of whose avatars appear on her screen in that area. "Misfit, Batgirl. Someone on the rooftops in Battergate, needs checking out."

-

"OK." Comes Batgirl's habitually brief response to Oracle's words. At least she actually did a verbal reply this time. She doesn't always remember to do that.
With a shift of weight and flex of her arm holding her swingline to change the direction mid-flight, she makes speed towards Battergate as a dark-winged shadow against the night sky.

-

Of course Misfit's avatar being in the area is relative with her strange handling of being nearby. In this case though she is pretty closeby, over by the Narrows. She stops warming her hands on a to go cup of coffee and takes a sip. "Roger roger." all right, Battergate "Man that is a bad area…" says the teen in the narrows. She bounces >pinkurple> ,without the usual TWANG to the mystically inclined, to a landmark in Battergate, the top of a one of the few very tall building and peers down at the other buildings "Can you narrow down the search area Oracle?"

-

Unaware - again - that he's being electronically stalked the Fox slips off the rooftops and makes for the park itself. He's fairly sure he knows where Papa Dubois is going to be tonight. The Syndicate struck one of their hideouts the other night so he'll be gathering 'reinforcements' and enspelling them.

This is fairly petty magic. The 'zombies' of Haitan myth bear little resemblance to those of popular culture. Really it's just a question of minor magic and drugging someone up enough to make them suggestible. Which means that these are not lumbering dead things he's going to be dealing with. However, it also means that the Ton Ton Macoute's 'soldiers' can be nearly anyone, even people with no connection to the organization. That's what makes them dangerous. Left alone they can rule entire neighborhoods with in iron fist.

There's light ahead. And voices. And… Ugh. Guns. Yes, they do tend to be fairly modern in that. Best to see what they've got first. The druid pulls a small square of leather out of his pocket on which is inscribed several celtic words. He passes his hand over them, murmuring and the whole thing glows and then disintegrates, light flowing into him. As it does his senses sharpen and he leans in to listen.

"Don'cha worry. Papa Dubois gonna get him some new recruits, den we deal wit da wolves tongiht. Jus' make sure ya keep up your end o' da bargain."

-

Oracle doesn't need Batgirls response, she appreciates it though, as the Avatar starts moving on her screen. Misfits request has her nodding "Headed to the park, on the ground now." The feed from the security systems in not great and the redhead frowns as something in his hand seems to glow. "Video feeds on, please" she won't bother with platitudes of being careful, these two know what they're doing.

-

The touch to the side of her cowl is a momentary thing as the cameras in Batgirl's cowl go live. As she has to physically close the space, unlike Misfit, she's still en-route and the screen that's attached to her feed has the city tilting and tumbling about as the young vigilante runs across rooftops and soars through the air to get to the destination.

Three years of being Batgirl gives her an intimate knowledge of the city, and the mention of the park has her there in relatively no time at all, dropping to a high perch to get a look at the situation. It also gives her a moment to focus on any instructions that Oracle has.

-

Well she may travel fast but she definitely does not know the city like Batgirl. Misfit reorienttates herself from her very high perch and taps her camera live. "Okay spotted the park.. I think." she isn't positive it is the right park but lets hope. She bounces down to a closer look as well. Man when Batwing finishes her costume and goggles this will be easier. Right now she is rocking it very low tech.

-

The figure in question is hooded and dressed in a loose cloth and leather outfit that provides some protection from blows while still affording maximum freedom of movement. And he's wearing a fox-themed masquerade mask. He's also armed. Very armed. There's a crossbow and a sawed off double barrel slung behind him. Unlike the first time Oracle may have seen him (if indeed this is the same guy) he doesn't have a sword, but does have a pair of tonfa and what may be a pair of sai at his sides.

Kane lets the enhanced senses fade. He's got enough information. Papa Dubois is in a clearing in the dense overgrowth ahead. He's got about ten people with him, all armed, and is talking with someone he doesn't recognize but is also hooded and robed. Those are… kind of long odds. Might be time to even them. Letting his enhanced sense fade, Oracle can quite easily see (and the other two might be able to make out) him producing another charm, this one made of carved animal bone. It too glows and disintegrates and a trio of large ish glowing, spectral wolves stalk out of the ether at his side.

-

Oracle too has made there are others in the park and although their intent isn't clear, it can be assumed.

She's still not sure if this is the druid, but the bearing and outline are very similar and as the wolves appear, she nods to herself. "One individual on the edge of the park, with spirit wolves by their side, potentially friendly. Ten or so others in the clearing, assume hostile - looks like the individual is setting up for a takedown."

-

OK. Some of those words didn't make sense. "Spee…reet?" Batgirl is a great physical mimic. Oral, not so much. New words come hard and slow.

The black-clad figure drops down lower, slipping into the park itself, picking up where the hostiles are but not moving in yet. Instead she works on locating the 'friendly' and gets to find out what 'spirit' means. "You want… me to wait?" Batgirl figures Oracle might want to get the measure of the 'possible friendly'.

-

Misfit continues to scan the park and nearby, heck she knows Batgirl is here somewhere but she has so little chance of spotting her, figures. "Huhm… oh hey I think I spotted the wolf assets…and…." she looks around near where the wolves are faintly glowing "got the target site and operatives. Waiting for the call to go." she is quite pleased with herself. She has been using a lot of call of duty lingo since she got it for Christmas.

-

Still utterly unaware he's being watched, and now without his enhanced senses, Kane produces one final charm. This one a tuft of fur and feathers and… swallows it. There's a faint glow to his figure and it's not quite clear what that did… until he flips both batons into his hands and advances at a run.

-

Oracle can't hear what transpires but Msfit and Batgirl probably can. "Merde. The druid. Take care of him." What follows is a lot of gunfire. The spirit-wolves don't appear to be supernaturally fast or strong, but anyone whose ever been attacked by a large dog can tell you that they don't have to be. A number of people with guns, otherwise dressed normally, open up on the new arrival as the Bocor makes with about half a dozen of them for another part of the park. Seems like the druid's going to be plenty busy, the more so because he's clearly making an effort to disable and not kill his current opponents, which is at odds with the way he dealt with the Ghouls.

-

"Aid the individual with the wolves first." Oracle wants the riff-raff cleaned up first but she wants to know about this other one hunting on the Bats territory. "But I want to talk to this guy when it's done. Misfit," she adds "he has magic about him." She really hopes that doesn't distract Batgirl.

-

Batgirl is really more likely to think someone sprayed the poor dogs with glowy-stuff than think of 'magic'. Because really? Magic? Pull the other leg why dontcha.
T
This time Batgirl doesn't give a verbal reply, instead moving after the Fox as he charges in. She doesn't try to make any kind of appearance, instead she works on ducking in and out of the shadows and taking out the gunmen when the druid's back is turned. The shooters are her priority, and working all sneaky-like on the fringes means her hands are full at the moment so Misfit will have to chase after the Bocor.

-

Misfit bounces down to the for side of the clearing, still down in the shadows of the park, tucked half behind a tree as the Bocor and half of his men make haste right to her location. Ambush predators, Misfits. She opens up with batarangs, because well if she can winnow them down with some headwounds and concussions it makes it easier, two coral objects hurling out at two of the bigger mooks even as she bounces from her shadows to appear without fanfare midair in front of the Bocor "Dark Vengeance!" and serious punch to the face, then she is gone with another flash of pink and purple smoke <pinkurple> appearing even further into the park the direction they were running to pick her next targets.

-

The Fox is clearly trained in weapon fighting. And very, very good. Perhaps not… Bat good. Definitely not Batgirl good (who is?) but he's definitely more than just an enthusiast with some gear. While not killing, he definitely doesn't have any issues breaking limbs. He only gets a couple though before Batgirl has disabled the rest. Suddenly finding himself without targets, he looks around at the wolves who… well, look rather pleased. Natrually, he doesn't see the Batgirl.

"Right… that was easier than expected." He murmurs. Oracle can likely hear him through Cassandra's communicator.

Not one to look a gift bat-beating in the mouth, he takes off after the Bokor who is just getting up from being batarranged and sucker punched. As he does the Fox finds him and delivers a rather savage forearm blow with a tonfa, putting him back down.

"Stay down if you know what's good for you." He doesn't. He reaches for a bag around his neck. Kane breaks his wrist with another strike as he does. "No curses either."

-

"Nice work" Oracle watches the video feeds as the women in the park do their thing. "Secure them and let's see if our friend here will talk. Approach him with care…" The Gotham PD will be notified, as soon as Oracle can speak to the druid again.

-

Batgirl stays in the shadows until Kane's off after the Bocor, and then goes around and uses the Batzipties to secure the gunmen before sneaking back over to where the Fox is playing hardball. She comes up besides Misfit, the empty space beside the teleporter suddenly filled with a Bat-shaped shadow.

-

Right, everyone can sneak up on her. Iron Fist has his work cut out making Misfit more aware of herself and her environment. She does manage to not squeek in alarm, though she does tense up. She watches the druid work, then counts. One of the mooks not fully disabled and definitely not secured while the Druid ravages that Bokor, whatever that is. "One more" she whispers then bounces and appears above the guy, kicking him right upside the head and lands as he collapses into a heap.

Misfit then chipperly says "Hi there!" to the Druid. "Nice badguy whooping really, though we would like to have a word with you." she ducks down and zipties the thug, and then steps to get the bataranged ones. We.. she seems to be alone.

-

The Druid turns at the sudden arrival of a Misfit and… still doesn't see Batgirl. "Is that a royal we?" The mask he's wearing, which is kind of like wearing leather filigree on his face, does at least obscure his features enough to make his identification uncertain while still retraining vulpine hints. "'Cause I only see the one of you…"

He's not at all sure where Misfit came from and while the fact that she's not attacking is a point in her favor, the twirl of the batons in his hands and the gathering of glowing wolves about him points to a certain amount of wariness.

-

Oracle smiles wryly, she rarely smirks, as Batgirl stays in the shadows "He didn't have a great introduction to how we do things here. Misfit, put you comms unit on so he can hear me and I him." She's going to be recording that voice, there's more ways than one to identify someone. "Batgirl, make your presence known." If worse comes to worse, Batgirl can have some fun of her own.

-

At Oracle's instructions, Batgirl melts out of the shadows behind the Fox, resettling her cape so it drapes her from neck to ankles with a soft rustle to gain his attention. Other than that, she does her statue impersonation, the featureless mask that covers her face making her presence a bit more unsettling.

-

Misfit laughs "Royal We, not hardly." also just the statement royal we threatens to give her a bit of a headache so right laughter. She stands up and taps her comm on her collar flipping it to the mode Oracle wants her too. "No no.. We…" after the rustle behind him.

-

Kane looks behind him, tensing a bit. Batgirl is not someone he's seen before but she is recognizably a Bat. Which puts the Fox in something of an odd position because he's only heard of the Bats in the same sense as most of the rest of Gotham, including the vigilante community. They're myths. Legends. And they may or may not be real. He'd not been sure on that score himself. Seems he's sure now.

The fact that this is apparently a Bat and ally keeps him from going into full defensive mode but doesn't put him at ease. See the rest of the Bat reputation. "Okay. We." His stance shifts so he can keep an eye on both. The spectral wolves crouch low but don't growl. "Well I'm here what do you… hang on."

Papa Dubois had taken advantage of the Fox's distraction to produce a small knife and a gris-gris bag. Both of these get kicked out of his hands and then the hooded figure stomps on the man's chest. A couple of times. "Knock that off you."

"Right, so you've got me. Though I'm at a loss as to why…."

-

Batgirls appearance makes Oracle laugh a little just before she winces as The Fox stamps on the man on the ground "Secure him properly Misfit." the digital voice will filter through "We meet again, Mr Fox. Hopefully under better circumstances tonight." the redhead smiles sardonically to herself. "Please note my colleagues have not harmed, or tried to harm, you. Meet Batgirl, part of the Bat Family, and Misfit. Misfit is the younger more talkative one." She pauses "What do you know of the Bats, Mr Fox?"

-

Batgirl isn't terribly keen on the Fox's brutal methods, but she knows he's not trying to kill the badguy so she lets it go. Oracle wants information and so the Batgirl just drifts closer and around in front near Misfit so she's not making the guy jumpy by being at his back.

-

Misfit grins at the Druid but doesn't interrupt as Oracle works, she does step in closer and crouch down to drag the Bokor out away from dthe druid if not stopped, and then flips the bigger man with ease and goes about applying her zipties to secure him in the more traditional fashion, properly, and also remove any weapons.

-

The Bokor doesn't have weapons as such except for the knife but he does have a lot of traditional voodoo trappings. Chicken foot, dolls, gris-gris bags and other things for magic and curses. "The Fox. Or just Fox. Calling me Mister Fox makes me sound like a character in a claymation children's movie." Kane mutters.

Batgirl moves more into his line of sight and the wolves start to stalk away, fading into nothingness in the space of a few steps. Clearly Kane's feeling less threatened. "I'm a little curious what you're gonna do with him…" He murmurs again.

"Bats? Well up until about five minutes ago I knew that they probably didn't exist. At least not in the way most folks talk about them." Which is confused, as is common with any sort of urban legend. "I also knew that I didn't hear much of them in the… stuff I deal with."

-

Which is exactly why Oracle had been calling him Mr Fox. "Fox then, not Mr Fox." the redhead smiles as the druid mutters.

What do Bats do with the 'bad guys'? "When this conversation is finished, I'll despatch the police" not call the police, despatch them. "and they'll be treated through our justice system."

"The Bats are very real. We look after Gotham and Batman does not take kindly to those who hunt on his territory." she pauses, Misfit wasn't introduced as a Bat "as to the stuff you deal with, until recently that hasn't been a problem for us. And I doubt my friend Batgirl here will believe you anyways. I should like to discuss the nature of what you deal with, further."

-

Batgirl's head tilts over to the side as she watches Fox. She's not really listening to the conversation. Oracle will usually prefix anything with her name so she knows to actually focus. Instead she focuses on Fox. How he moves. What his intentions are. She gets a hell of a lot out of what he's *not* saying.

-

Misfit isn't a bat, yet mind you despite some of the costume colorations and her M-bat symbol. Maybe she is minor league team, or in training, or something. Who knows with those creepy urban legend vigilante sorts. She is a lot of things though. She picks up a chicken foot and makes a face then tosses it aside. "Gross." she mutters and lifts her hands and whistles lightly, the two thrown coral batarangs, well they come back to her hands… specifically they flap like bats and fly quick to her hands. She tucks them away.

-

The Fox's movements, his stance, betray two things. One is concern. The other is irritation. At least Oracle had said 'problem for them' and not 'not a problem at all'. The tonfa whirl and spin idly. Here's someone who prefers to act. The training is… classical. HEMA, Okinawan martial arts, cross trained, likely and lots of practice and experience.

"Police… bad idea." The Fox grimaces. "But you outnumber me so I'm not going to press the issue. And territory… what is this? Gangland?" The druid blows out a sigh. More of that irritation for Cassandra to pick up on. "What do you want to know?"

-

"The majority of the discussion could be had at a later time if you like, Fox." Oracle is watching the feeds for other activity "My two friends here have things they should be attending too. Misfit can give you her communicator, and we can talk when more convenient. Or you can suggest another method of communciation." Oracle is used to people mistrusting her ways. "Batgirl, Misfit if you want to add anything, be my guest."

"There is only question that I have Fox, why are the police are a bad idea? What is it that has you concerned there." Issues of territory are left alone for now and the redhead adds "Misfit, make sure we have our batarangs, I'd hate for them to end up in the GPD evidence locker."

-

Batgirl seems to consider for a bit, and then steps up with one arm extended and her hand closed in a fist out towards Fox. There's none of the 'fistbump' manner though that might be what it most resembles.

-

Misfit already called back the batarangs she threw, and they magically animated and flew back, wierdness and all. She glances to Batgirl. Then she confirms "I'll do a quick sweep before we jet." she sticks close though so Oracle can continue to communicate and all, and she can give her comm if he wants it for further discussions

-

Kane… cants his head. It does resemble a fistbump kind of gesture though it's a fairly… flat one? None of the congratulatory or self congratulatory emotion behind it. He doe showever, slowly, put his batons away and lightly bump Batgirl's fist. "Two reasons: One, they won't be going to the GCPD. Word on the street is that anyone vigilante's drop off to them vanish. Dunno where but enough people are saying it to make me think it's true. Two, more importantly, even if the police did take Papa Dubios here in, there's a good change that he'd simply magic his way back out. Oh, and subvert a few police officers into gang tools while he's at it. Or maybe torture them with a doll made of carelessly discarded or carefully gathered personally connections." 'Cause voodoo Bokor. "Long story short, he'd get out and he'd hurt a lot of people along the way."

-

That's Batgirl for you. Ignoring the vanishing comment, that's something else to worry about, Oracle chews on her bottom lip, she knows that she doesn't know magic "So what would you recommend then?" Misfits comments get a grin "Noted Misfit."

-

Batgirl slips back into the shadows after Kane presses his fist briefly against hers. Oracle doesn't seem like she's planning to have Batgirl take him down and the bad guys are dealt with. The little black bat does have an elsewhere to be.

-

Misfit chills really, curious as can be about this disappearing bad guys from the authorities, and well people magicking their way out of jail. I mean she has the ability to magic her way out of trouble, but how would this vodoo guy even do it she ponders. She fishes her comm off her costume though and offers it to Kane "Want this or want your phone to be used?"

-

"Well… unless you have some way to take his magic away, or can banish him to an extra dimensional plane, I suggest killing him." The Fox says quite seriously. "However, if you can't stomach that…" He blows out another sigh. "… you could break his other wrist and his jaw. He needs his hands and voice to work his magic. Take those away and he's harmless… for a bit. It's not a permanent solution, though."

And clearly, the Fox prefers solutions that arrange things such that the problem doesn't come back, but if one must, one must. Besides, it's not like this guy's a ghoul… though he's nearly as bad.

"Whatever you decide to do, I'll leave you to it." The druid turns, nods politely to Misfit and whistles sharply. The sound of hooves can be heard before a ghostly elk runs out of nowhere and the Fox vaults up onto its back. If he has to deal with Dubios again, so be it. It's not worth starting a fight over with people who are just trying to do the same thing he is… sort of.

"My phone?" The thought that they could get that is a bit chilling. "Er… I'll take that, thanks." He accepts the communicator. "I get the feeling I'll be seeing you both soon."

And with that he's off like a shot, the elk moving at highway speeds back into the Battergate and up onto the rooftops.

-

Misfit cocks her head slowly to one side as he and his ghost elk trot off, then run, like super fast up a building. "Okay.. that may be the strangest thing I have seen this year." well it is January 1st. "His elk just ran up a building… what the heck…. oh right… I'm talking to myself…" she sighs when she gets no response since she gave up her comm. She quickly polices the scene and then bounces to get a new comm.
