Rowan hasn't had a chance to come around recently and Babs has herself been busy, so at the first opporunity to get together he suggested a walk by the beach down in Sandy Hook. Just, you know, to walk and talk. About nothing in particular. That's the beauty of talking with Babs it doesn't have to be about anything. He's walking beside her down the boardwalk, not in any hurry at all and not at all cold though for appearances sake he's donned a light jacket. "So things have been at least acceptable?"

***

Babs smiles slightly at Rowans question "Acceptable, yes. There's just… a lot going on." She's dressed for the cooler weather, wearing a warm jumper and jeans, her hair has been left down. "It is good to get out though. It's seems like forever since I've been able to just 'be'." Looking up at the blue warrior, she nods to the jacket "Is that new?"

***

Rowan glances down at the light green jacket. "Oh yes. People look at me funny of a jacket just appears out of thin air so…" HE isn't bothered by cold. No one who swims in the Arctic for extended periods of time could be. "You don't seem to get a lot of… opportunity to just… be. Which seems a shame."

***

"It's nice, the jacket… and I can imagine people do." Babs looks out over the beach, letting the wind catch her hair and breathing the sea air in. "No, I don't. But I do when you're around." the words are said quietly "I can imagine you don't get that much time either… and you probably had less time than I do, in your other world."

***

"It depends. People are very interested in what makes me different, or special or useful." The Blue shrugs with a sigh. He can't fault them, it's how he makes his living. "It's not often that they're interested in what makes me similar, or simply what makes me myself." Part of the reason he likes being around Babs is that she is.

The warrior finds a bench and sits down at the edge so Babs can situatate herself nearby. "You were right. This place is nice in the afternoon."

***

Angling her chair, so she's sitting next to Rowan whilst facing him, Babs smiles gently as she looks around. "It is… so peaceful. Even with the wind." Raising a hand she brushes her hair back before looking back at Rowan. "Thank you for bringing me out here." the smile touches her green eyes "What have you been doing since I saw you last?" Babs wishes she could share some of her adventures, like going to Limbo and seeing a demon… but… that would give away too much.

***

"We were out at sea for… mmm… five days? The scientists wanted to look under the arctic ice cap." And there's only one person who doesn't have to worry about getting stuck or freezing. "It was a good opportunity for me too, to look around. I'd never been in that part of the ocean."

***

That has Babs interest. "And…" she coaxes gently "What was it like… don't keep me in suspense." The wind catches her hair again and pulls at it. "Tell me. It sounds fantastic." Better than Limbo, she'll lay odds on that. The sounds of birds calling has Babs glancing back down to the beach, and a fleetingly sad look crosses her face as she looks at the sand.

***

"It was different. Stark. There's more ice under the water than on the surface of it and it's all rather beautiful in a rugged, jagged kind of way. The floor was… different to me as well. Alien. But I'd never been that far north even in my own world." Rowan follows her gaze and then glances back. "What is it?"

***

"Was there no wildlife?" Babs is kind of enthralled… Blinking as she looks back to Rowan, she smiles softly and shakes her head "Just sometimes I miss being able to do things… I'm sure you understand."

***

"A fair amount of it but mostly near the top. Things don't usually live that far down that cold. Unless it's my people. I didn't see any though. I'd always heard they were out there… maybe they are. Not like I had a long time to look." Rowan smiles. "Would you like to go down there?"

***

"You must have been a long way down then." Babs murmurs "Go down to the beach? Yes… I think I would but I was actually thinking it would be nice to feel the sand between my toes…" she smiles a little sadly "but being able to feel it with hands would be nice."

***

Rowan looks at her a bit sadly. It's possible that magic could heal her, but he doesn't have any magic for that. The best he can do is pick her up, which he does, and carry her on down closer to the surf and the gulls. "I do wish I were able to help that…"

***

"Don't do that…" Babs speaks quietly. "I'm being fanciful, that's all." As Rowan carries her, she puts her arms around his neck. "Thank you though… this will help."

***

Rowan smiles and sets her down near the gulls before pulling out… a bag of toasted breadcrumbs. "I hear that sometimes surfacers enjoy this?" Feeding the wildlife is not something that usually happens underwater, but he has seen people quite often feed the birds. Sometimes accidentally.

***

Babs smiles at Rowan and laughs. "Always so prepared." But she doesn't take the bag yet, instead digs her fingers into the sand and lets it trickle through them. "Yes sometimes we do like feeding the birds… would you like to try?"

***

"I think so…" Rowan reaches into that bag and scatteres some of the bread crumbs. Pretty soon there's a fair sized flock of Seagulls in front of them. Calling out. "Huh. Hungry little things aren't they?"

***

"Yes, they are." Babs dusts of her hand and scrubs it against her jeans before pushing her hair back again. "Have you seen a movie called 'Finding Nemo', Rowan? It's animated and the gulls all said 'Mine, Mine, Mine'" Nodding to the flock in front them, the red head grins "Listen…."

***

"No… but I've not had an chance to see many…" Rowan cants his head and listens for a few minutes before bursting out into a laugh. "It does sound like that doesn't it. I wonder if the makers did not live near the sea." Blue don't often deal with sea birds. For obvious reasons.

***

Babs laughs, glad to see the Blue enjoying himself. "I think I have the movie in my library if you'd like to watch it. It's always a bit of fun." Taking a breadcrumb from the bag, Babs holds it out to the birs, whilst using her hand for added support. "Let's see which is the bravest…"

***

One of the birds eventually does get up close enough to Babs, after a few minutes, to eat out of her hand. Then Rowan tries it. He's too prone to movement so it takes them a lot longer to get up that close. "Fascinating little things."

***

"May I lean against you again?" Babs shifts to redistribute her weight. "I suppose fascinating is one way of looking at them…" Babs laughs softly "Most surfacers consider them scavengers and a nuisance. Imagine trying to eat when these guys are around, you'd never get any piece." Taking another handful of breadcrumbs, she continues to feed the gulls.

***

Rowan does likewise, looping his arm around Babs and taking her weight. "No, Babs. I don't mind at all." He never considers her a burden. In fact he rather enjoys opportunities to be this close.

***

Babs relaxes slightly against Rowan as she holds a bread crumb out to the gulls. Smiling gently, the wind still tugging at her hair, she murmurs "Thank you, Rowan. I'm glad you don't mind, I like being this close to you."

***

Rowan gives Babs a squeeze and a chuckle. "Do you? If I'd known you enjoyed it that much I'd have arranged for us to sit together like this more often."

***

"What on the sand?" Babs teases lightly as she continues to throw the breadcrumbs to the gulls. Turning slightly more serious, Babs looks up at the Blue "Anytime you want, Rowan. Anytime." she murmurs "I didn't realise you felt that way…."

***

Rowan smiles. "I do. I don't know for how long, but I do." He gives her a squeeze about the shoulders content to enjoy the sound of the surf and the gulls and the wind and Bab's company right beside him.
