The druid known as the Fox has had an interesting week between various magical things needing solving in Gotham, a run in with one Jason Blood and a chance encounter with Wonder Woman and Batman. It's almost a relief when Andrea tells him that a ley line near Midtown has come unhinged and is threatening to build up dangerous levels up arcane energies. Not everything the druid does is something that needs to be punched or shot and while he is primarily a monster hunter, he's also one of the few magical types active in Gotham (the only one he knew of until recently) and so he takes it upon himself to handle all manner of arcane problems. It's rare that he gets to one like this before it becomes a bigger problem so he's counting himself lucky as he arrives at a mostly empty parking structure. Huh. Odd place for a ley line.

***

Zatanna, having experienced a blocked ley line recently has picked up on ''something not right in Gotham'' and has taken her time in working out where. With a soft 'pop' sound, the young magician steps out of nowhere just behind the Fox. "Strange place for a ley line…" Zee strides forward towards the Fox a small grin on her face "Hello again Fox." Looking around, the raven haired woman frowns "Last time I felt something like this was with Constantine. He had an interesting fix for it… What are your thoughts?"

***

The Fox nearly jumps when Zee pops out behind him. It's… ah. Zatana. The mage from the Titans. He was under the impression they were mostly New York based. Interesting to see them here. "Not sure yet." The druid holds of a crystal and peers through it. Yep. He can see the energies roiling. Like a fire that doesn't burn anything. Mostly they just look like glowing lines so this one is seriously out there. Which is bad. Usually it's a case of realigning them which is something that had previously taking his full Circle to do.

And of course now, his Circle is dead.

"Going to have to redirect it. Looks like the rennovation of that office building cut it off."

***

"Seriously, that was SUCH a sham. Too bad, I thought we'd find some who weren't phonies. But at least they let us hang out?" Captain offers from the back of Rain's broom. They have a box tied to the end. Probably plants. Or something. It reads: Witch's Garden. "Yeah, they were a lot nicer than the family, at least," Rain considers. But then, something feels odd as they pass through. Her path takes her near Zee and Kane, before - uh oh. "CONCENTRATE!" Captain Bapbapbaps Rain's back with a paw. "I'm fine! It just felt weird. Hi you two!"

***

Zee nods slowly to the Fox "Looks like, huh?" Zee can only sense the energy at the moment, that's why she's here. "It must be bad, I sensed from where I'm living. If I hadn't experienced it before, I wouldn't have known what to look for." Rains arrival has the young woman turning "Hey Rain! Hey Captain! Look what the Fox found…."

***

And there's the other Titan mage. Witch. Kane waves. He's fairly heavily armed for someone just checking out a ley line but then this is Gotham and you never know what to expect. Or at least, he doesn't. "Ley line bring you down here too?" The druid cants his head briefly before going back to looking over it. It's odd that this site hasn't attracted any trouble. Overfull ley lines frequently draw magical predators and whatnot. The fact that this one hasn't… he wonders why.

***

Wiiiiiiiiitch! Kane is correct. And to be fair, Rain's channeling relics are twin pistols. She's nearly always armed. She just keeps them concealed. Because again, ain't no one gonna take her seriously with a 12 inch wand. She lands near the two and Captain hops off. She steps off, and the broom is left hovering in the air with their cargo. She smiles and waves to Zee. "We were passing through. Were severely disappointed. The Witch's Garden had no witches." Pause. "Besides me." She shrugs. "And what did he find?" Despite her burgeoning adoration, she can focuse. She looks to it, then blinks.

"Nothing has changed majorly around here?" She looks around. "How odd."

***

"No witches at the Witches Garden, huh?" Zee has to laugh "You'll have to tell what was there…." Gesturing to the Office Building, Zee shrugs "Fox thinks the reno's to that building have probably affected it." It's possible and more than likely. Building contractors don't generally know, or care, about ley lines or anything remotely like that.

***

"Yeah." The Fox is still walking around the parking structure, a few steps this way, peer, a few steps that way, peer. He's got actual magical training. Not an ounce of actual magical talent, but he doesn't know that. Still, it's often enough to know what he's looking at. "Though in this case… I'm not sure that's actually true." He drops his arm, the red seeing crystal still in his hand.

"The ley line is fractured right under that building's foundation, but something's been altering the 'flavor' of the magic. It's like sour milk. That's why nothing's come by to take advantage of all that power. Which is good news in that we won't have to fight any ghouls. But bad news because it means there's nothing to siphon off the energy and at some point…" Kaboom. Depending on how long it takes until the ley line gives, it could take out the parking garage, or the entire block.

"I'm not sure why anyone would do that on purpose but this is defintitely the sort of thing that's kind of hard to do on accidnet." Not the fracturing, that's easy. But changing the flavor of the local magic?

***

Rain grins at Zee. "Yeah," She nods. That is definitely a promise. Then she looks to the building. "It would make sense, sadly." Most folks don't know and/or don't care. "The mortal community has - really lost its relationship with magic in a lot of ways." She's not criticizing too much, mind. Science has done a LOT for humanity. But for her part, she believes in Fox. Maybe she just can't feel his magic? "I see." She looks thoughtful. "I don't know anyone here. I can't imagine enough negative emotion, even if ripples from a disaster filtered in." Captain ponders. "No necromancers or that sort of thing that we've been hearing about." The two seem to be at a loss.

***

Magic or no, The Fox is educated and knows what he's talking about and Zee tilts her head as he speaks before looking at the building again. "If the magic is being altered, I have to ask whether it's deliberate or not. If it's deliberate… then we have a bigger, ongoing, problem." Zee looks to Rain questioningly "I don't know how your magic works, but I'm guessing you don't sense anything?" Zee /knows/ she should be able too… but there's still things she's learning, but that doesn't stop her opening her magical senses to 'see' what she can as well.

***

The Fox nods in affirmation to Rain. The local events shouldn't have been near enough. It takes a lot of a particular type of thing in a small area in a small space of time to affect the 'natural' flavor of a ley line so quickly. Otherwise it takes time. Gotham's lines in general taste of despair and darkness, an outgrowth of the city's general state for the last number of decades. Now he's walking back toward one corner of the garage. "No, no necromancers that i've heard of. The Ton Ton Macoute has some bokors but they've been quiet. Silver Syndicate doesn't do ley line magic and no huge sorcerors have been in town that I know of…" So… that means…

"There has to be something sterilizing the ley line. Feeding it sour magic. Look around for something magically active. It'll probably be small but this would be the best place to hide it, amid all the other background magic noise."

***

Rain believes in the two. She's only been a witch a couple of years or so, but she's immersed herself and done pretty well. Magic is more innate. Captain grunts softly. "I still wonder - if anyone's heard from the city spirit or spirits. They could possibly give you something if nothing pans out here," She offers. Rain takes a deep breath and looks serene. "Let's see… well, nothing overt. I guess it's time to do some divination." She slips a crystal from her pocket. "We don't really need the crystal, but when we work with others, it's nice to prove she's not a /total/ loon," Captain explains. "So sour magic or negative emotion. That's a bit more vague than usual, but…" They can but try.

C'mon, crystal.

***

"When I helped John clear a ley line blockage near here a few weeks ago" Zee squints and looks around "It ended up be a small orange thing… " Captains discourse gets a vague smile, as Zee lets the magically energies flow, and she speaks:

~ wohS eM s'tahW gnitceffA ehT yeL eniL ~

Glancing at Captain, the young magician shrugs "Rain uses a crystal, I speak backwards… we each have our thing."

***

Both get the same impression. There's something in the structure with them, but it's hard to pick out amid all the background noise from the overflowing ley line itself. Still, they do get something, over near the edge of the structure, in a bush, is a small suitcase that seems to be fairly glowing magic. Really strange magic.

Most magic has a flavor. Blood, emotional, arcane, hermetic, natural or something. This magic has no flavor. It's sterile. And it kind of hurts to feel. A lot like feeling an injection of sterile water…

***

Captain pauses, "Well. We don't really need the crystal. It's just handy. We like one another, and that's why we joke at one another. If I didn't care, I wouldn't let myself get thrown at things." Or stuffed into a vent to scout. Rain even scritches Captain. For her part, she pauses. "This feels really weird. Like a surgical ward or something." Totally clean. Like the dust free rooms where circuitboards are built or … or.. She furrows her brows. She'll wait to see if Fox or Zee step over to the same bush.

"How strange. I think it's this?" Time to confirm!

***

Zee 'sees' the magic as much as 'feels' it and there's a small glow in a bush and she nods to it as she moves that way. "Over here" she calls to her two, errr three, companions. Nodding slowly at Rains comments, she agrees "It's so clean that's it's almost tasteless… like Rain says." Looking at the Fox, the raven haired teen grimaces "We probably need to open it, but I wouldn't touch it with bare hands…"

***

Kane has gloves on to begin with, so he flips the suitcase open. Inside is a small circle with a pentagram inscribed inside and white crystals glued down to the five points. "Well now we know what's been sterilizing the flow of magic. What I don't get is why anyone would do that. Sterile magic is energy without life. It's… mechanical. And it hurts some people quite a bit…" He nods up to Rain and Zee. "If you were to…" He blinks. Wait. "Wait… the line was fractured, so it started to back up, then someone started sterilizing all the magic in it. If it were to blow… it'd spew sterile magic all over the place… like into the other nearby ley lines. Weakening them as well."

He frowns, not liking where this logic is going. "It'd be a lot less useful for anyone with magical inclinations."

***

"And if the ley lines are no longer useful…" Zee tries to continue the thought "Anyone who wanted to mount an attack the magically inclined would have a pretty good headstart" She frowns down at the Fox "That's right, isn't it?" The young woman cheers her bottom lip as she thinks "But even just having that type of magic in the environment could affect some magic users badly."

***

"Yeah, and a lot of them would probably pack up and leave town if the 'well' were to dry up. Magic users tend to be pretty fond of their powers, most won't stay in an area where they can't use them even if it doesn't make them physically uncomfortable to be there. And this would be." The Fox stands. "Which is bad, because not only will it piss some pretty violent people off, but the magic of the land and the land itself are connected. Sterilize it and… well, things here would live, but not be alive. The place would feel like a lab. All white drop tile and florescent lights…"

***

"And you get a perfect place for someone or somebodies to conduct experiments…" Zee thinks she gets what the Fox is saying. "free of magical interference by others." Peering at the Fox and back to Rain, she shrugs "It's seems pretty well thought out to me…."

***

"Yeah." And the Fox has no idea who might be behind it. "Just a theory though. For now…" He reaches a gloved hand in and disconnects one of the crystals. The delicate 'cleaning' construct disappates. "That takes care of the sterilizer. I'll take this to Andrea and see if she can make more sense of it. This kind of magic isn't really in my line. We still need to unblock the ley line though or it'll blow in the next couple of days."

***

"Who's Andrea?" Zee cants her head as he speaks. She relaxes, without even realising she had been marginally tense, when the crystal is removed. Looking around the parking garage, Zee frowns "To unblock it, we have to mend it don't we? It is fractured after all…." She grins a little at The Fox "Are we going to put a cast on it or something?"

***

"Gypsy friend of mine. She gets seizures and visions. And she warns me sometimes when stuff is wrong in Gotham." He has a few contacts. It's how he keeps up with stuff happening. Otherwise he'd be as in the dark about the magical problems in Gotham as most are.

"We'll we can't, wait… cast…" The Fox grins suddenly. "Yes. Yes that's a great idea. It broke, but we might be able to set the break and reinforce it with a bit of magical landscaping. You do magic right? Can you reshape things? Physical things, I mean."

***

"Cool! I might like to meet her." Zee likes making new friends and magical friends are generally useful. His question has her frowning and then blushing a little bit. "Supposedly I can reshape anything but…" she blows out a breath "I'm still learning a lot of that … I can make things do stuff within the nature of the material I use. Like…" another deep sigh "I can't make bullets into rain drops and stuff like that." Folding her arms, the Mistress of Magic considers the Fox "What were you thinking I need to reshape?"

***

The Fox nods over at the pile of wood and dirt and other construction materials sitting on what used to be a park but has since fallen into disrepair, as is so common in Gotham. "The rennovation of the office building near killed that old park. It's not even really a park anymore. City can't afford to keep maintaining it so it's just gone wild and the construction crew was dumping unusued building supplies on it. I can renvigorate it, but I need someone to bring order to that mess of building materials. With a strong nexus of natural power, the flow through the ley line should stabilize, and the 'flavor' start to recover a bit."

***

"Oh sure" Zee nods as she observes the mess of the park "I can do that… I can even move the building materials out, unless you're going to use them." That's actually quite easy for the young woman… "If you've got anything specific in mind, let me know, but you start your work, I'll do my bit."

***

"You know how ley line energies flow. I just need them out of the way." The Fox fishes a couple of green crystals and some chalk out of the bandolier across his chest. He never really has explained what he uses all this stuff for. "Do your thing, then I'll do mine."

***

No he hasn't explained what all his stuff does, but Zee /will/ find out from him eventually. "Alright then!" Zee obviously gets a kick out of this sort of thing. Closing her eyes, now that the sterilising energy has gone, Zee lets the ley line energy surround her. Speaking, in that backward way of hers, building materials start moving in anticipation of Kanes work.

***

Kane starts to draw, placing his crystals in the dirt of the park as he outlines his circle on a large flat stone. The plants begin to glow and grow as Zee moves the construction materials out of the way, becoming more healthy and vibrant by the moment. Dying trees recover and sprout greenery, the grass perks up, flowers burst into bloom. It's winter, so they'll eventually stop but for now the park looks like spring came early, and even when the green and flowers fade, the plants will still be healthy. The odd thing about it all is there's not a whisper of magic. Not a sense of him pouring energy into the place. Which… is possible, it means having a great deal of control. Or it could suggest other things.

***

Sometime during all of this happening, Rain and Captain take their leave. When she's moved all the construction material, Zee focusses her attention on the living matter making sure it is aligned with the ley line. When the work is finished, she sags a little - working magic, for her at least, takes it's toll. Looking towards the Druid, the Mistress of Magic grins "Really, really nice work. I would love for you to show me how that works for you one day, I got nothing from your workings." Letting herself settle again, she checks the energy flow through the line "Does it feel better to you?"

***

"Sure, one of these days." The druid shrugs. Most of what he does is fairly obvious and - because he's not Homo Magi - props based. He can't sling that much power around, so he gets around that by prepping it ahead of time. "Yeah, looks like it's flowing again." He says checking the line again with his crystal. "I'll look in on the place again tomorrow night just to make sure the fix held, but I think this one's going t obe okay…"
