The Fox, masked and in costume this time, is walking through one of Gotham's many parks. This one seems empty of drug dealers and criminals and even haunting spirits which is nice because it's been a trying night. He's wearing his crossbow and his (large) sword and his shotgun but at the moment he's glad he doesn't have to hold any of them because his arms are sore and he just wants a breather right now.

***

Zee is Gotham, for no better reason than she is. Actually, it might have been the visit from Illyana and Jericho the other day and the mention of leyline tampering that's bought her back to Gotham. After checking the work done the other night, Zee is wandering through the same park as The Fox, heading directly towards him, not that she knows this.

***

Kane hears someone comeing before he sees her. Which is why when Zee appears ahead of him in the slightly overgrown, badly it park path the Fox has his hand on the hilt of a blade that's about four feet long. He stares for a moment before letting out a breath. "Zatanna."

***

At her name, the young magician looks up and when she recognises the Fox, smiles brightly. "Hello Fox! It's Zee, to my friends. Not Zatanna." She's in jeans and a long sleeve woollen top that sits just on the waist of her jeans. Looking around, she peers into the park and surrounds "Have you had trouble here?"

***

The masked figure shakes his head. "No. Just looking in on it and thanking my stars that there isn't. I needed the break. Been a long night." The Fox stops, since otherwise he'd just walk right past Zatnna. "Zee, then. Nice to see you again."

***

"Mmm, long night and needing a break… sounds like a story." Zee can be a bit irrepressible, might be the stage training. Taking a good long look at the Fox, her eyes narrow "Where were you heading?" Zee moves to fall in beside the Fox, if he wants to keep moving, she'll move with him.

***

"There used to be a small artificial lake in the center of this park." The druid says as he starts walking again though in not much of a hurry. "I wanted to see if it was still there."

***

Matching her pace to his, Zee cants her head as she listens. "And is that where you headed now, or where you've just been?" She presses for more information. "I came in to check on that leyline we did the other night, in case you were wondering. I've heard something a little disturbing that I want to check out."

***

"Ah, I did as well. Seems to be doing okay." That was one of Kane's quieter stops tonight. "That's where I'm headed now. I wanted to see what kind of shape its' in." He takes a deep breath and lets it out, nodding. "What'd you hear?"

***

Zee shrugs, whether he sees it or not, "I had a visit from some …. acquaintances…" whilst she was naked under towels and then been transported to a beach somewhere "They told me that there's some people using a mishmash of magic down in South America, messing with the leylines there. I just thought it too coincidental that I've had two leylines here in Gotham affected… and that last one looked like sabotage." She looks sideways at The Fox to guage his reaction.

***

"The first one looked like sabotage too… just different sabotage." Kane frowns, thinking. "Ley lines are a good thing to mess with if you want to do magic or affect magical folks. Could be a coincidence but you're right, seems a bit of a stretch."

***

Zee nods vigorously "Yeah, my acquaintances seemed a little skeptical … South America is a long way away, but still… this is Gotham." Watching the path they're walking along, the young magician blows out a breath "I don't suppose Andrea's had chance to look at that device we recovered? I'd be interested to see if she got anything from it. I may know of someone who specialises in the leylines…"

***

"She got a vision off of it and I didn't like it. Blasted, bleak Gotham. All the life gone out of it. All the magic sterilized. Whomever set it there knew what he was doing." The Fox shrugs and sighs. "But if you know someone I'll be happy to get it for you. Anything'd be helpful."

***

"I'll have to make contact with them first… " Zees met the woman once and then by mistake… "But I'll let you know. How do I get in touch with you?" The Mistress of Magic smiles "I'd like to keep in touch anyways, you interest me, Fox."

***

That gets the Fox's attention. "Interested in me? One of the Magi?" He knows enough about auras to know when he's looking at someone with real Power. Kane will never be appreciably more powerful than he is now, not without acquiring some real relics or the ability to do some serious enchanting and imbueing. Zee on the other hand, he can tell, will grow far more powerful than she is now.

***

"Sure" Zee smiles as she gets the Fox's attention "Why not. You're smart and you do pretty cool things…" she frowns a little "I'm not sure it is magic like I know it, but you do stuff… and you're" she waggles her fingers a little "mysterious in that mask" she is teasing a bit there. "What's not interesting about that?"

***

Kane chuckles and taps his masquerade mask. "The point of it is to be mysterious. Otherwise folks would know who I was and it'd get, er, hairy. But I'm glad you approve." He does wonder what she means by 'not magic like she knows it'. Then again, she's trained in very different traditions. "Ah, lake's coming up."
It's a sad little manmade lake. The flow's been blocked for a while and it's gone all scummy. "Well… that's expected, I suppose."

***

"I do approve" Zee grins at his words… "Of a whole heap of things" she really can be irrepressible when she wants to be. The lake however makes her stop and sigh "Expected maybe Fox, but that's pretty sad." The raven haired woman glances at him "Shall we try to clean it up?"

***

"Sure you're not a druid?" The Fox winks as he starts to move around the lake toward the lowest point where the blockage must be. "That's exactly what most of the ones I used to know would say. And yes, we're going to try just that. Soon as I figure out what's… ah." Fallen trees across the drainage. Four or five of them. And years of silt. Pretty good dam.

***

The wink has Zee smiling even more brightly "Pretty sure… homo-magi, not druid." she shrugs "Doesn't hurt to want to make things right though… natural resources and all." Folding her arms loosely across her chest, the young woman watches the druid make his assessement. "Do we need to move the trees first or the silt dam?" She's been watching him carefully.

***

Kane nods slowly. "The trees. The silt will wash away without them. If you can manage that, I'll see about purifying the water." He takes out a few green crystals and holds them up. "Just a moment."
With purposeful movements Kane 'plants' those crystals at specific points aorund the edge of the lake. It does take him a few minutes.

***

Zee waits till Kane has planted the crystals, she's fascinated by what he does. "You'll have to explain that to me, Fox. But I can move the trees." When he gives her the signal, Zee gestures slowly at the trees:

~ evoM ehT seerT ~

Very carefully, she lifts each tree out of the way with her magic, laying them out on the ground clear of walkways and the lake.
As the water begins to flow the crystals glow green and begin to make the pondscum disappear. The process does seem to consume the crystals and after afew minutes they've been reduced to essentially glitter. The water, however, is crystal clear now. Not a hint of stagnation at all. The Fox is walking back now admiring the work. "Well done. Would have taken all of us to do that… back when." He lets out a sigh and shakes himself. "Explain what now?"

***

The water is pretty, even in the dark, and Zee moves to sit on a bench near the lake, patting the seat beside her. "My pleasure, Fox…. and I meant explain how your magic, your crystals work…" she blows out a breath "The props I use help me visualise the change I need to make. Yours seem to work differently for you." The statement about 'all of us' has her raising her eyebrows.

***

"Oh yeah. I'm not Homo Magi like you. I don't have the power to sling around like that. Couldn't knock a fly off the wall with my juice. But I can store it in the crystals and charms I use for release later." Kane shrugs as he comes over to where she's sitting, looks for a moment then sits down. "Means I can run out though."
The raised eyebrow gets a canted head. "My circle."

***

"Is that why I don't feel anything coming from you when you work?" She'll have to pay more attention to the crystals next time. "Everyone can run out, or burn out." Zee shrugs "All magic use has a price… a cost. Just cause I can 'sling' power around doesn't change that." It just costs differently for her. "Your circle… and it's just you now?" the raven haired woman, tilts her head to the Fox, offering a very small smile.

***

Kane nods and blows out a sigh. "Yeah. Just me going on… two years now." He doesn't elaborate but the way he carries himself makes it clear that it's not like the moved or anything like that. Something happned. Something bad.

***

"That's a pretty long time to take on the job of that many yourself." Zee sits back and speaks quietly, casting a sidelong glance at the Druid. "I'm assuming of course, you've been doing this type of work since then… must get lonely."

***

"Does." The Fox nods. "Hell I didn't even know there were other mystical types at this until a few weeks ago. Much less you know, folks like the Bats. Figured they were urban legends." He rubs at his eyes through the mask. "Gets real old, going it solo like that."

***

Zee looks carefully at the Druid, noting his rubbing his eyes "Working with a team… helps. It's why I joined the Titans. Well and I wanted to do more crime fighting." A small smile tugs at the corner of her lips. The Bats being urban legends gets a small laugh from the young magician and then she becomes serious "Do you get much sleep? You look like you're exhausted…" the young woman sounds concerned "You won't do anyone much, much less yourself, if you're too tired to think straight."

***

"Been a long night. Normally I call it quits a few hours before sunrise and get some sleep during the early to mid morning. But the nights just seem to get rougher. Like no matter what we do there's just one more predator out there every night." Kane shrugs. "Sorry. Like I said, been on my own for a while."

***

This seems to be the way it is for many crime fighters and super heroes, Zee chews her bottom lip "I hear things are getting worse in Gotham too, you're probably picking up on a lot of that." she grimaces slightly "You need someone, Fox… to share the workload with."

***

"I'm open to suggestions." Kane shrugs. "Most of the vigilantes here in Gotham frankly don't get it. They want to arrest people and bring them to trial. And hey, don't get me wrong, I'm all for that… when it can be done. But you can't put a Bokor or a ghost or a werewolf in jail. It sucks but that's kind of how it is. So even if I could teach other people how to deal with this stuff, they'd still be thinking about arresting mobsters and not fighting monsters."

***

Zee grins mischieviously at the man next to her "You could always ask a certain young magician for help…. one that finds you interesting" she pauses momentarily "and I'm pretty sure some of the other mystical types you've met would be open to working with you." The fact is, Zee knows how to work as a team and he needs help.

***

"Mmmmmm. Keep that big purple cat away from me." Kane grumbles. Getting smacked in the face with a flamingo leaves a bad first impression. "But I wouldn't mind working with you at all. If you'd be willing." He smiles. "Which it sounds like you are. Your team won't mind?"

***

"Grumble all you will about Keith" Zee laughs at the Druid in a good natured way "His heart's in the right place. I can't guarantee to keep him away… he's good in a fight… but I can guarantee he'll leave you alone." The young woman sobers and nods "My team won't mind, as long as I'm there when the team is needed. The Titans are a pretty good bunch all round."

***

Kane will grumble about Keith. Beause he smacked him in the face with a bird and his apology was 'I've had some bad experiences with druids.' Replace 'druids' with, say any ethnic group you care to name and that quickly sounds very silly. At best. "Well I'd really appreciate the help then. I can't begin to tell you how much."

***

Zee smirks because she knows Kane will grumble about Keith… and probably Gar…. after what she read in the case files. Looking into the night, the young magician smiles "You have my help… and you don't need to tell me how much you appreciate it… it's what I do for my friends." Zee stands up and looks down at the Druid "Were you heading anywhere else? If not, maybe I can buy you a coffee somewhere…."

***

"I don't usually get coffee in costume. Mask draws a few looks. But if you'd like to get some I'll happily share some with you before I head home. Getting to end of shift for me." Kane rises and looks once more at the Lake. Somehow, so much more rewarding than thumping some fool werewolf heads.

***

The Lake is pretty cool in Zee's book and she notes how the druid looks at it. She shrugs "I can always put my costume on and we can say we're coming home from a fancy dress party." There will still be strange looks but they'll both get them. "C'mon, where's the nearest coffee place around here?" The Mistress of Magic throws a big smile at the Fox offering her arm… "When you need me, just call me… I'll be here as fast as I can speak."
