HYDRA mages are… well… bad. Not as in evil, though they do tend to be. As in 'not really actually all that good at magic.' No one's really sure where they're finding these guys, but the ones they tend to come up with so far are low to middling level sorcerors with little actual magical talent supplemented by a brutal and dangerous mix of training from several different magical disciplines. The result is that it works, but it does carry a significant risk of blowing up in your face when you do it. Which in this case, it rather has.

The entire Pratt Institute is not quite where it's supposed to be. Well, so actually that's not entirely accurate. It's not quite when it's supposed to be. Temporally shifted. That part might not be immediately obvious, but the part where there's a distorted, shimmering field around the Institute most certainly is. And the screams. The unearthly shrieks echoing from inside… though no one on the outside can tell quite what.

This is the kind of thing that gets the attention of your local god-wolf, which is why moments ago, a Way open and Jeremiah Wolfson stepped out, frowning at the barrier and the sounds coming from inside. He can smell the tang of blood and sense… something, well several somethings within. Sadly, whatever is keeping this distortion up seems to be coming from inside the field…
"Some days I really do think Mortals all want to die…"

The Partisan is a woman of many talents, she can cook, speaks all sorts of crazy languages, can beat a man to death with a tube sock full of office supplies and of course like overthrow governments. What she doesnt do, is magic shit and laundry. Still, when shit's going down right infront of her well she has a certain obligation. So quietly she drops a text to her partner in crime, about the hood she -had- been tailing and then gets right down to business. Parking that ratty looking older BMW out of the way, before slipping out and pulling down her mask with a little sigh. Vietnam era tiger stripe BDUs, camo'd Skate shoes, well worn gloves, and of course that brilliantly painted gas mask and it's matching helmet. She pops a magazine from her thigh pocket and jacks it into her MK-18, dropping the bolt with a roll of the shoulders before she's off. Tucking that buttstock in close as she heads towards the…disturbance. Ignorant of that fact that, well someone or rather -something- present should be able to feel her very presence.

***

An unmarked BPRD sedan, listing heavily toward the passenger side, comes to a stop next to the school's entrance. The door pops open, and a towering figure in a beaten-up leather overcoat unfolds himself from the vehicle, whose shocks spring gratefully back into their more customary shape. Hellboy shuts the door behind himself carefully — he has broken a few windows by being hasty, over the years — and then looks over the light-distorting magical field with interest.

"Hey, cool. We found them," he says, glancing over at the driver's side with his flat amber eyes. "Nazis sure are crap at being sneaky." He lowers one hand to his hip and the oversized hand cannon strapped there, then hoofs it (literally) toward the mystical bubble to get a closer look. Unfortunately for her, he sees Partisan coming out of her car before he gets to his destination. The getup and the gun pull him up short. Let's face it: she looks a lot more like someone HYDRA might field than someone who belongs in a quiet collegiate neighborhood. "Hold it!" he bellows, drawing on her. "You've got to the count of three to say something not nefarious and not in German!"

***

Faye turns off the engine and slips out the driver's side of the car. She shakes her head with a bit of amusement, only really here tonight because she was in this neck of the woods when a call came to pickup Hellboy and get to some sort of emergency, briefing on the road. "Well it is definitely the right place, glad we didn't get lost this time." Agent Faye Stone is dressed in a goodly amount of black leather. Jacket. Pants. Nice blouse though under it by the looks of it. Katana of all swords over one shoulder. Very pretty eyes though. "I'm pretty sure these Nazi's dress in green and if that was one of them they would be driving away rather than walking up to it.. .could be wrong though HB."

After the other evening at the Triskelion and the ongoing conversations with Jericho and Illyana, Zee has been paying attention to 'disturbances' and this one… has her attention and she teleports in not far from Fenris. Dressed in jeans, t-shirt, jacket and knee high boots with a modest height heel, the only thing that might seem stranger than the teen appearing out of nowhere is the collar she's wearing.

Eyeing the building, that's not quite there, Zee approaches Fenris and catches his words "Some day, Fenris, I'm sure you're right."

***

Fenris sighs and flicks his coat back. There is a very large, very heavy looking revolver belted at his side. Gift from a friend. He's a feeling he may need it. "Nice to see you Zatanna. We appear to have a timeway rupture in progress." He sniffs. "Very sloppy magic." That's said almost with a growl when…

Well… it's not often he senses another wolf in the area. The tall, predatory man begins to look around, sniffing a bit before his eyes land on the 'swat' trooper moving toward the disturbance. "Not the usual kind of prey, is it?" He calls out. There's not much chance of anyone hearing that… except…

Well, the big red guy and his partner coming up behind Fenris.

***

She's got a gas mask painted like a wolf's skull, theres a stylized pair of bolt cutters and a chain on her shoulder flash. So no, not government issue, "FUCK YOUR SHIT" scrawled across the buttstock of her MK-18 is even less likely. Still Hellboy is entirely sufficient for even the Partisan to stop dead in her tracks, if only by way of confusion. Then she squares her shoulders up, hackles rising. "The fuck do you think you are waving a piece around, you mother fucking amatuer hour cuntnuggety tryhard! Get that shit out've here you plastic cup drinking motherfucker, before I step over there and feed that shit to you. You feel me bitch, or do I need to clarify the fucking situation for you?"Clearly, dealing with 'plastic cup drinking motherfuckers' is tiresome judging by her demeanor. That'd be the M.F.P live and in the flesh, whatever did you expect?
Fenris gets a, well it's hard to know exactly what sort've look he's getting from behind that gas mask."The fuck you talking about, jesus fucking christ does every wanna be magician in this town have to carry a fucking revolver? Do you fucks like call ahead to make sure you can all co-ordinate who's carrying which comically oversized revolver, because hey I get it showing up with the same compensation as some other dude would be super awkward right?"Part shoots Zee a glance, followed by a comically chill wave.

***

Hellboy's mouth twists slightly. The barrel of the Samaritan stays up. "Wow," he answers, when Partisan runs out of wordy-durds. "I didn't know 'too stupid for HYDRA' was a thing until just now." He raises his stone hand and hooks a thumb over one shoulder. "How about you get clear, dumbass. Some of us have jobs to do."

Finally, he lowers and holsters the revolver, seeming to tune her out of his perceptions. Turning away without another word, he tromps over to the edge of the field, stares at it for a second, and then crouches to pick up a stone. A few decades of dealing with this kind of crap have taught him to be cautious about anything that looks like a standing special effect. "Brace yourself," he says, glancing over his shoulder at Faye. "This might not be a real smart thing to do." He flings the stone at the field.

***

Agent Stone archs an eyebrow at Partisan going on like that at Hellboy. "Well that is a new one for the book." she shakes her head a smidge. Balls though if nothing else to mouth off like that to Hellboy. Anyhow she wanders after him. Partner is a strong word, driver. Minder. Backup if he actually ends up needing it. "Right. Standing well back." she watches him fling the stone now. An eye kept on Partisan and Zee and Fenris. Really most people know enough to clear away from a mess like this. "That guy looks vaguely like a file at the office." she mutters.

***

Zee's mouth gapes open as Partisan starts in on her rant and then snaps shut. The teen peering closely at that figure, a small frown furrowing her brow. "Well obviously, I didn't call ahead… because I'm not carrying anything." Watching Hellboy fling the stone, the young magician directs her next comment to Fenris "Timeway rupture… and sloppy… exciting times."

***

Fenris quirks an eyebrow. "What's your name?" The Old Wolf can possibly be forgiven for not knowing the Partisan's name off the top of his head. She's been around but under wraps and not usually the kinds of secrets he delves into. He can however, sense that she's not of the usual type. "I'm going in there. There's going to be… some hostile paradoxes, probably. You ever dealt with anything like that, Zee? Red? Miss?" That last to Partisan and 'Stone' both.

"Fighting will almost certainly be required, incidentally."

As if to emphasize that, something invisible shrieks very, very close to the border of the distortion.

***

"Talk talk talk, get to it then bitch."The Partisan delivers her parting shot after Hellboy, before casually meandering over towards Zee and Fenris."I'm the Mother Fucking Partisan, and no not really. I did bring the important shit though, harsh language, loud toys and a bad fucking attitude."Offering a gloved fist towards Zee if she fancies a fistbump. "Seriously though, I could go round up a good old fashioned chemical weapon in about five minutes if necessary though. Not like there isn't a grocery store or someshit nearby, won't take but a minute."

***

Hellboy is too focused on the results of his experiment to worry about any 'parting shots' — his only response is to hold up his stone hand and clack his fingers against the tip of his thumb in the sign universally invoked to ward off empty gum-flapping. Since there was no immediate reaction to the rock, he pushes his stone hand into the field, casuing it to vanish, and then pulls it out again, unharmed. "Like a curtain," he tells Faye. "Must be why we can hear the spooky soundtrack" — he pauses for a shriek that's particularly close by — "but not see what's causing it." He draws the Samaritan again, holding it low and at the ready. "If I don't come back in five minutes, feed my cats." He steps through the shimmering field.

***

Faye looks over at Fenris and Partisan and Zee. "Ooh Partisan." yes she knows who Partisan is. Same circles over the decades really and same sort of ghostly death dealer. She studies Fenris still not entirely sure why he looks familiar though. Then her attention is back to Hellboy "No way, that will be a task for a junior agent. So you had better make it back out of there. Also shout if you need help, looking forward to cutting loose tonight."

***

Zee does take the fistbump from Partisan and smiles brightly "Hey, you were there the other night at the Triskelion… sorry, I didn't recognise you" the teen mage smirks a little "but I think that's what you wanted." Fenris gets a shake of her head "Nope, but I'm coming in with you anyway… " and then blinks as Hellboy just steps through the curtain "Team player, that one…" she mutters.

***

Fenris shrugs. He knows off the Hellboy, certainly. His name gets whispered about in the right circles often enough. He's not seen him in action much but that's how these things go. The tall man expertly checks the safety on the weapon Eight gave him and also steps on in.

Inside the field everything looks like you're looking at it through a chunk of clear jell-o that someone set to jiggling. All blurred and distorted and things live trails when they move as if the processor of the universe has a bit of lag. The Old Wolf looks like he expected this much.

There are things moving about. People, fractured and distorted as if the world isn't quite sure where or when they are. And… amorphous clouds circling, darting this way and that.

"Paradoxes." Fenris says. "Careful. They may rationalize at any moment into-" Several of the nearest ones turn into what can only be described as zombies. Sort of. Humanoid, but clawed with exposed musculature. They charge. Fenris splatters one with a shot from the gun.

"Must from one of the exposed timeways. Guess the Institute didn't do so well there."

***

"I don't have a secret identity honey, this is my true face. Stick close to me, alright? I don't know bout any of these other punks, but I'm old fucking skool."Part offers towards Zee, before following Fenris inside. She's relieved theres shit to shoot, at least. "Contact front, Bust'em!"Sweeping that stubby M4 up to shoulder as she thumbs off the safety, squeezing through that first stage before the carbine lights up. Stringing precisely aimed three and four round groups after the zombie…things. Luckily she has at least some vague measure of range, and today she actually has a gun she's familar with. Part does in fact, absolutely live up to her reputation. Pounding T-zone shots out like it's going out of style, and all with absolutely picture perfect form.

***

"Okay, come on through," Hellboy says from the other side, his voice seeming to come from nowhere. "But come armed. This place is a mess and" — he pauses, reaches out with his stone hand to grab an onrushing paradox zombie by the head, and flings the creature outward through the curtain — "full of these things." He's about to give her more of a description of the situation when Partisan leaps in at his side, blazing away. He recoils, gritting his teeth, and then lunges forward, attempting to grab her carbine by the barrel with his stone hand and yank it upward and out of her reach. He won't even notice the barrel's heat — benefits of his unique heritage.

"Short words for dumb girl," he growls, glaring at her so fiercely that for a moment he looks like the monarch of Hell he was born to be. "This place is full of people, seeing is hard, and space is messed up. No! Shooting!"

***

Faye shakes her head as the civilians just meander on inside the barrier. She notes to Zee "He can punch an outer god in the snout and survive the apocalypse. I usually let him go into these shit shows first to make sure I won't be melted to a puddle." She draws the katanna, it looks to be a very unusual alloy and steps through armed. Somewhere in the transition from normal world to the other side Agent Stone has become a much bigger much more wiry muscled wereleopard with a damn special alloy katana though. "Oh hey Zombies." it is a growl of sorts, this rumbly happy purr of a noise as she lopes ahead to behead one of them now.

***

Zee follows Fenris and Partisan through, and blinks at the wereleopard and Hellboy taking Parts gun. "Zombies…" she's allowed herself to be distracted and only just manages to avoid one that grabs for her. "Are these real people?" Zee will opt for the 'soft method' at the moment and with a gesture of her hand stirs up the air

~ riA dniB sihT erutaerC ~

The Zombie that was reaching for Zee becomes bound by air and the raven haired woman nods. "I won't kill them if we can turn them back"

***

"People?" Comes a woman's cold voice as, through the blur something approaches. Or rather… someone. Several someones. From the left, a dark shadow. Lupine and huge with eyes that burn like coals. "There is only death here." A voice rather like Jeremiah's sounds.

"All who enter my realm must bow!" The woman is… well, could be Zatanna… if Zatanna were a demoness with cloven hooves, a tail, horns and a very dangerous looking sword. At her side, hissing and cackling stalkes a twisted purple feline figure with a spiked collar. "Isn't that right, my familiar?"

"Demons! All of you!" Shouts… big Red? As he approaches from the right. His hands blaze with eldritch power and he looks over the newcomers (which is to say, our heroes) suspiciously.

Fenris' eyes narrow. "Paradox manifestations. Strong ones. Careful. The timeways are bleeding into one another." He reholsters his gun and begins to shift himself, his form warping until he too is a large, dark coated wolf. "Someone needs to shut off the broken magic while the rest of us hold them off. If you have any talent you should be able to feel it from here. I'd help but… I'll be rather busy with the Destroyer Wolf…"

***

The moment Part's barrel is grabbed, she's in motion. Right hand sweeping away entirely too fast, We're well into the supernaturally quick territory here. "Back off, or I'm gonna hurt your feelings pal."That G-18 held low near her hip, and certainly aimed after HB. "You can fight with me, or you can fight with them. Either way, you're going to let go of my carbine or we're going to have a very nasty disagreement you and I."She's slinged into the carbine, so no she can't just drop away super quick. HB has her backed into somewhat of a corner here.

***

Hellboy didn't realize Partisan was literally strapped to the rifle, so it takes him a second to notice that he's holding her up off the ground. All the same, it will at least serve to underscore his point. As will the way he casually ignores that she's aiming a gun at him, and deals with other people first.

"These don't look fixable," Hellboy answers Zatanna, grabbing one of the paradox zombies in his free hand, holding it up to show her what he means, and then flinging it aside again before it can scratch at the vigilante in his other hand. "But those?" He points at one of the shrieking, helpless humanoid figures struggling with its broken dimensions. "Look like bystanders to me. Unless you think HYDRA called ahead to make sure the school was empty."

Finally he turns to Partisan, holding her up at eye level to consider for a second. She's actually talking now, rather than just shouting insults, so he decides to take a chance. "I can fight you both if I have to. Let's not." He lowers her to the ground and lets go of the carbine. "Keep it close and personal." And then he demonstrates, leaping at the alternate version of himself with both fists raised over his head to strike.

***

Well then Faye slices another zombies head off, then slowly pivots to look at the dou Zee and Feline "I can't help but find that more than a little insulting. I mean really… a familiar." there is a momentary pause "Fuck me sideways is that a soulsword." the feline eyes squint narrowing to study the paradox Zatanna. "I imagine that means it needs a spellcaster then… I could use explosives or kill a caster.. but I can't unweave a damn spell." she lopes over to step in front of Zatanna between her and the bad versions.

***

Zee shrugs at Faye as she peers at the alternate her "I'm sure I could have come up with a better look… and yeah, that's a soulsword, don't get hit, ok" she shrugs "I'll turn the magic off, I guess…." and steps past the group to find the source of the mess.

***

There's a sudden, almighty, unearthly snarl as one destroyer wolf strikes another. The power suddenly unleashed… well it'd probably flatten the block, certainly the institute if the whole place weren't a state of temporal flux. The two seem evenly matched which is… slightly terrifying. The institute itself keeps flickering between versions. Some run down, some ruined, some gleaming and pristine, even futuristic. A lot of them are fairly dark though.

"You should know your better…" Demon Zee snarls at 'Stone' as she lashes out with her magic, unleashing several large demons upon the shifter as she strides forward. The demoncat at herside suddenly blinks and comes right at partisan, all claws, and demonic strength and glowing violet claws and malice. "You're mine little soldier girl!"

"Demon!" The amazingly not-self-aware Red calls to Hellboy. "I shall send you back to the Abyss!" And he lashes out, trying his level best to do just that.

***

Hellboy hits his counterpart in a flying tackle. The pair roll across the floor, grapple for a second, and then kick apart, raining blows upon each other. "'Shall'?" Hellboy echoes in disbelief, just before the invincible stonework of two Right Hands of Doom come together with an earsplitting crack. "Who says that?"

He draws the Samaritan with his free hand, shoves the snout right up under his counterpart's head, and blasts one of the oversized rounds into the throat that barked out those oh-so-proper syllables. His dark reflection staggers back, clutching at its bleeding and torn throat, but it's not dead, just temporarily disabled. Hellboys are built to last, it turns out.

***

Well small favors. Agent Stone is at least glad she doesn't have to deal with demons, Zee with a soulsword, and 'her' own doppleganger. "Why are nazis so damn stupid…" she ducks and cuts a demon snickersnack. No it isn't a vorpal sword, but Faye does have a magic sword from the vaults. When one specializes in Relic Acquisition one gets some interesting toys for field work. Then she is ready to parry some claws and a soulsword if need be.

***

As Zee moves past the group, she murmurs to herself and her street garb fades to her costume. "Might as well do this properly…" as she lets her magical senses seek and speaks

~ wohS eM ehT ecruoS fO sihT llepS ~

Now all the young magician has follows her nose, so to speak, and move carefully through the flickering versions of the Institute. Who knows what she'll meet.

***

The source of the time spell is somewhere in the institute itself which might be a bit hard to get to. It doesn't matter, though, because the exploded spell has suffused the entire area. All Zee has to do is tug on the right thread to unravle the whole thing like a badly knit sweater.

Fenris and Fenris continue to duel at a power level that should destroy everything around them and only doesn't because it's contained within this bubble of broken space/time. Mystique chews through the demons only to find herself face to face with the DarkZee. One blade meets the other and…

Well… the Soulsword is designed to unmake magic. It's no good against flesh and bone, but it does destroy magic. And if Mystique's sword is magical… "Prepare to die, mortal!"

Partisan is… it's hard to see her in the timeways but she's definitely fighting with the demon cat who is teleporting all around. It's blade work is excellent. Part's bladework is peerless. The whole thing is getting rather messy.

Witchboy mutters as his throat recovers, enough to try to put a binding on… himself…

***

Hellboy turns away from his duplicate just in time to see dark Zatanna attacking Faye directly. "Stone!" he shouts, sprinting toward her in an attempt to tackle the sorceress off of his colleague. He may not have any spell-weaving ability, but he does have an innate resistance to curses, hexes, and all sorts of magical manipulation. For a creature of Hell, it's as crucial as being able to fight off a cold. That makes him quite a tank in these sorts of fights, and while Stone is definitely capable, her wereleopard abilities don't provide her the same resistances against a direct magical assault.

***

Well Faye leans back at the last minute as many many hundreds of pounds of Demonboy tackles Demon Zatanna. It managed to save her sword even if she wasn't too terribly worried about her hide being forfiet in that scenario. "Thanks HB!" she calls then turns and eyes the other HB to see how he is doing over there.

***

As her spell takes effect, Zee 'sees' the strands of it in the air around her and she takes some time to study them. Blocking out the noise of the others struggles, the raven haired women eyes scan each thread and finally settle on something.

Reaching into the air, Zee closes her fingers like she is plucking a piece of fruit from a tree and then speaks.

~ levarnU sihT llepS ~

***

Other HB is eyeing her… like she's a demon. He's charging up what looks like a really nasty spell when the entire timeway structure begins to re-stabilize as Zee pulls out the sloppy, gone wrong magic. There's a vision of Partisan, quite victoriously ending her fight with the demon cat before it all flickers out of existance… but not before the Limbo Queen can fire off a bolt of magic at Zee herself. One that hits her with the full force of the hollow feeling she felt after giving up limbo once more…

Then, rather amazingly, everything is normal…

Except for the fact that there's a wolf the size of a tank limping back toward them.

***

One second, he's grappling with a demon sorceress. The next, he's fighting thin air. Hellboy just barely manages not to lose his balance when Zatanna causes the HYDRA sorcery to fold in on itself. "Hey. No problem," he answers Stone awkwardly, straightening and adjusting his coat. Evil spells he can shrug right off, but social graces? Those are tough. He does try, though. "Good job, whoever fixed things," he says, glancing at Zatanna, then Fenris. "Anyone see any HYDRA guys around?"

***

Stone quickly sheaths her still blessedly intact katana and sometime during the transition from messed up to normal she is back in her human skin. "I can't believe how bloody stupid they were…. " then she is looking at Fenris "Ooh… right that is why he looked like that guy in the file."

***

As the bolt of magic hits Zee, she's driven to her knees and she sobs. "Not again…" the teen curls in a ball against the nearest wall hugging herself, oblivous to everything going on around her. It will take the Mistress of Magic a few moments at least to get over that blast.

***

Fenris comes over and puts a (huge) paw on Zee. There's a flow of life and power that's stabilizing and steadying. "I imagine they're dead. One does not usually have a spell misfire that spectacularly and survive. But feel free to search the institute."

***

Hellboy makes his way over toward Fenris and Zatanna, giving the latter a look of concern. "Yeah, we'll be doing that. Even dead HYDRA guys can be useful, if my buddy Johann gets a chance to have a chat with them." The comment is pretty cryptic, but he doesn't elaborate. He kneels next to Zatanna, reaches out with his flesh and blood left hand to touch her shoulder gently, and asks, "You okay? You didn't have to do anything ugly to make that go away, did you?" He's known magicians to take dark magic into themselves to get it out of the world. He's never known that trick to end well, though.

***

Faye wanders over to peer over Hellboy's shoulder now down at Zee and then up at Fenris. "Well thankfully that is done now. What's up with these Hydra guys anyhow, never heard of them going all magic. That was always those Thul guy's thing."

***

Fenris paw helps Zee and she slowly uncurls from her ball, in time to look up at Hellboy "DemonZee got a bolt of Limbo magic… left me empty… not the first time I've experienced that feeling." Shaking her head, she tries to smile brightly "Didn't do anything ugly, myself. But still…"

Faye gets a frown and the teen sighs "They are. I've been working with… people to try and help find out more. Mixing all types of magic, infecting or sanitising it…" she shrugs "We've seen it in New York and Gotham."

***

"It's been a lot of places lately, but I had no idea the serpent's children were involved." The big wolf shrugs. "I showed up only because I sensed time starting to unravle. Good thing the rest of you were here. Those were real nasty paradoxes."

***

"They've branched out," Hellboy tells Faye. "Guess they decided our jobs weren't hard enough already." He doesn't seem quite convinced by the brave face Zatanna is putting on, but he certainly doesn't appreciate people prying past his stoic facade, so he'll extend her the courtesy of leaving the matter alone. He stands and dusts off his hands. "Well. I'd better start looking around, see if HYDRA left anything useful. Thanks for the help back there." With no further pleasantries, he turns and starts to walk away, already lighting up one of his cheap cigars. Definitely a people person.

***

Faye smiles appologetically to the large wolf and Zatanna. She fishes around in her leather jacket and offers them a card. "Agent Stone." indicating herself "And that is Hellboy. He is very good at his job, which is stopping the various Apocalypses on a regular basis. Let me know if you run into supernatural problems and want some seasoned professionals." she turns and heads after Hellboy "I think I preferred the Thule society HB, at least they knew what they were doing and didn't acccidently almost end the world."

The card has a stylized symbol of a hand holding a sword with a pyramid by it's wrist. The Words Burea for Paranormal Research and Defense and a Phone Number are all that grace it.

***

Zee takes the card from Faye, finally rising to her feet. "I will be in touch, there's something going down and we're going to need all the help we can get." She peers after Hellboy "Anytime… and thankyou too." Looking down to Fenris, she smiles "Are you ok, I didn't check?" She'll stand heading out if he is, she has someone she wants to check in with.
