As promised, as afternoon turns to evening Rowan swings by the Clocktower, unaware of what's going on elsewhere. He's dressed up nicely and it's not adaptive clothing either. Not a tux, no, but a nice shirt, pants and a sports coat. It took a while to figure out what appropriate attire for this kind of thing was. Also locate some appropriate activities. And food, of course. Dinner is, of course, a big part of this.

***

Babs has taken her time getting dressed for this evening as well. As she's not sure what Rowan's got planned, she's opted for a classy little black dress and knee high boots. Her hair, which she normally leaves loose, has been pulled into an elegant chignon with a few artful tendrils falling free.

She's waiting, in her apartment for Rowan, her tablet on her lap as she checks the feeds from the Clocktower systems. Seeing him arrive, Babs speaks to the Blue Warrior through the intercom "Do you want to come up, or shall I come down to meet you?"

***

"I'll come up to you." It's politer that way. He smiles, holding up, instead of a box of chocolate, a box of rare loose leaf teas. He figures Babs will enjoy those more. "Nice to hear your voice, by the way."

***

The tea gets a smile and Babs sends the lift down, as the doors unlock. "Then come on up… and thank you. It's nice to hear your voice too" She smiles and waits for the lift to get there.

***

The door opens and Rowan emerges. He bows politely and offers the package to Babs. "Wow. You look very nice tonight." She looks nice often, he thinks, but he can see the time and effort she put into selecting her clothing and preparing her hair. And it's quite the effect

***

Taking the package, Babs smiles at the compliment. "Thank you, again. I'm glad you approve." She takes her time to give Rowan the once over herself "As do you and not adaptive clothing I see… you look good." The package of tea, once Babs gets a good look at it brings a bigger smile "So much better than chocolate, Rowan. Did you want some now, or do you have reservations somewhere?" She's already moving towards her kitchen, to store the tea or to make it… either way.

***

"We do have, as you say, reservations. And it didn't seem… fair, to wear adaptive clothing for this." If she was going to put effort into it, and Rowan knew she would, he was going to as well. "But we have time. Woudl you like to sample one or shall we simply get going?"

***

"Let's get moving… we can have tea later tonight, if you like." Babs speaks as she places the tea in the kitchen and returns "Good tea requires time to enjoy… and if you have reservations, we should be off." Moving towards the elevator, Babs picks up an emerald green cashmere wrap from the back of the lounge and drapes it around her shoulders. The tablet, is stored in the arm of her chair.

***

Rowan helps her down to the car, and then helps her into the car, in no time they're off and headed toward the upscale Bristol district where the dragon warrior has them reserved at a restaurant in the top of one of the area's high rises. Supposedly does very very good japanese. Very nice and formal. Hence the attire. "So, how have you been these last few days?"

***

Rowans getting good at helping Babs into and out of the car… she appreciates that. "I've been well." She'd love to share about Kendrin, but the danger of the connection being made to Oracle is fairly high, so she hedges a little. "Busy with work, I suppose. A friend of mine is helping someone get used to our city. They don't speak our language and they're not used to our ways, that's been interesting to watch from the sidelines." She shrugs "Apart from that, things have been a little quieter than usual."

***

"Interesting is good." Rowan smiles. "Well, most of the time." It's easy to be good at helping Babs get in and out of the car when you have Blue phsyiology. And are a dragon. "I do hope you like the place were going to. It looked like an interesting mix of seafood, grain and land animal meats. From a country that isn't here, I take it. Japan, I think they said."

***

"Japanese food, prepared properly, is just lovely." Babs is quite partial to it really. "I'm sure I will like it. What made you choose it?" The redhead settles back into the seat, enjoying the drive and scenery.

***

"The blend of familiar and new." Rowan answers honestly. They're nearly at the building. "And the fact that many people seemed to like it. I thought surely here was a chance you would enjoy it too." And he wants her to enjoy it. A lot.

***

"That's a good recommendation, if many people like it… the food and the restaurant that is." Babs turns to look at Rowan, something in his words giving her pause "Of course I'll enjoy it, I'll be with you. Good food and good company… what more could a girl want?"

***

"A good view?" Rowan grins as they pull up. The restaurant is an elevator ride up but Babs should have a fairly good idea where they're going now as the dragon warrior turns the car over to the valet and escorts her inside. Even the elevator has a glass front so people can watch as the view steadily improves.

***

The view is lovely and Babs smiles as she watches "Well yes, add the view and it's almost a fairy tale…" Babs frowns slightly at that, wondering if Rowan knows what a fairy tale is. Babs is content to watch the view as they ascend "It's lovely, isn't it?" she murmurs just before they reach their destination floor.

***

"It is." Rowan squeezes Babs shoulder as the doors open and they're taken to the table already waiting for them, given menus and water and left to enjoy the view while they decide what to eat. The blue looks through it. Sashimi might be interesting… as might some of these other dishes. "Whatever you'd like, there, Babs."

***

The squeeze on the shoulder gets a look and a smile, the redhead appearing quite happy at that.

After they are seated, Babs looks through the menu, and shakes her head at the choices. "Why don't we get them to bring the Chefs' recommendations?" In her experience, that normally gives a nice combination of food. "Unless you have specific preferences, that is."

***

"I don't, that sounds wonderful." Rowan puts the menu down and, after a few moments when the waiters come, he asks for exactly that. And then they're alone again. Rowan reaches over to take Babs hands, admiring the view, which definitely includes her.

***

Waiting while Rowan orders, Babs lets her gaze wander over the nighttime vista only looking back at Rowan as he takes her hands. She gives him a small, almost shy, smile as she watches him "I didn't ask what's been happening with you…"

***

"Oh, not much. Research and…" Well he's around Babs a lot more since their last talk. So she does see the Blue more. "Getting ready for those Orca races. And making sure no odd climbing shadow warriors come into your tower." Because she had mentioned that…

***

No matter how serious the topic, the way Rowan phrases the statement has Babs smiling and she nods, squeezing his hands as she does. "You've reminded me, I must reach out to a friend…." Kendrins' appearance, whilst interesting is a distraction from things. She must focus more. "How do you get ready for Orca races?" The redhead would love to see the races but, you know, Atlantis and she's surfacer.

***

"Find out what they are." Rowan laughs. "I had to ask some Blue travelling near one of the towns that I dive near sometimes. The answer was rather enlightening." And he's still hoping there will be a way she can watch. The food arrives, and all of it looks… very well made.

***

That answer certainly gets Babs attention and she gives the Blue Warrior a quizzicle look that's interrupted by the arrival of food. "It looks wonderful…" Babs nods to the server, not removing her hands from Rowans grip. Poor server has to place the plates with the food around the pair. "Will you do the honours and serve?"

***

"Of course…" Rowan takes one hand off and looks curiously at the chopsticks. "Er, how does one… nevermind…" He quickly, by hand, serves both he and Babs. It does really all look rather good. "You shall have to let me know what you think…" He glances off to the side. "Five minutes there should be some fireworks over the bay."

***

Babs releases one hand and laughs softly at the chopsticks question, watching as he serves up the food. "I will most certainly tell you" and she cants her head "More fireworks? I'm looking forward to those then."

Using one hand, the redhead samples the food in front of her and she nods in appreciation "It is divine, Rowan. A very good choice."

***

"I'm glad you like it." He spends a few minutes asking what various new food items are called before a green glow lights his face from the window. He turns to look. Ah, the fireworks. They're staring over the bay and the restaurant has a perfect view of them.

***

Babs does like it and she eats slowly, watching as the Blue learns about the new food. Turning her attention to the fireworks, Babs watches in silence as she eats her meal silently. Every so often, she glances at Rowan gauging his response to the display.

***

He seems to enjoy the lights and colors, the idea of explosives put to use as entertainment. Not much chance to see something like this where he came from. "I understand your people use these to celebrate…" He smiles as a golden one lights Babs up. "They are very pretty."

***

"I suppose we do." Babs doesn't realise that she is lit by the glow of the fireworks as she tilts her head "You remember New Years Eve… a time of renewal and celebration as one year fades to another." Nodding to the display she smiles softly "Different fireworks give off different effects and yes… they are very, very pretty."

***

"Which ones do you like best?" It's a silly question. Irrelevant on so many levels and yet right now it's the most important question in the world to Rowan. Funny how that happens sometimes.

***

Babs looks at Rowan, blinking slowly, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth "The starbursts, Rowan. They're like the sun coming out each time." She squeezes his hand, the smile growing as she does "What is it you're thinking on?"

Babs had finished her meal a few minutes ago, and her empty plate, with knife and fork placed neatly beside each other are in front of her.

***

Rowan smiles and watches the fireworks for a few minutes. "Just… a couple ideas. Maybe for something special later on." When the show ends, he glances down. They seem to have finished the dinner which means… "I heard there was going to be a 'concert in the park' type thing not far from here. Classical music, I think they called it. Care to go see?"
