Babs has the water boiling and cups set out in the little kitchen in her private apartment in the Clocktower. Rowans texted to say he's on the way from New York, Staten Island to be exact, and she expects he's coming in Dragon form so it won't take too long.

Her tablet rests on her lap so she can check her network and let Rowan in when he arrives.

***

Indeed coming in dragon form does not take long but unlike other people, Rowan lands and knocks on the front door. Once he's let up he goes right to Babs and gives her a tight hug. "Hello. Everything worked out well then?" He doesn't ask for specifics, just that all is well.

***

The hug is returned, Babs is pleased to see Rowan "All fine, Rowan. And I am sorry again." Gesturing to the cups, she smiles softly "The tea is nearly ready. If you bring the cups over, we can sit on the lounge if you like." She's a little concerned about how this Atlantean thing has impacted Rowan.

***

Rowan nods and brings the tea over, following Babs to the lounge where he takes a seat by her and hands her one of the cups. "Smells good." He smiles. "And don't apologise. You get busy sometimes. I do understand."

***

"I will apologise though. With everything that's happening in Atlantis… " she shakes her head and breaths in the aroma of the tea "It does smell good." taking a small sip she cants her head towards the Blue Warrior. "Do you want to discuss it? Atlantis, that is."

***

"We can but I'm not sure how much I can tell you. I'm stuck up here unless I want to either return to my people or fight. And I'm not ready to pick a fight yet. I don't know what's going on down there because… well I don't know. I only knew Arther and Mera and a few of my own people who have since left." Rowan frowns. "The Blue… there has been talk of cutting relations with Atlantis."

***

Babs doesn't understand the full relationship between the Blue and the Atlanteans and she inclines her head slowly as he speaks. Holding a hand out, the redhead sighs "I am so sorry Rowan. It seems you were starting to find a place there and now this."

***

"I may have to fight them. The Atlanteans. They believe their power sufficient to triumph in a war over the surface." Rowan sighs. "I have seen first hand that this is not true. They will only visit destruction on both their lands and yours. I hope that this will not… come to it. But I do not know if it can be stopped."

***

That stops Babs cold and she stares at the Blue Warrior. "Fight them with who…. exactly?" She thinks she understands his motivation but … that way lies madness, surely. "Rowan…." the redhead is left speechless.

***

"Me…" Rowan shakes his head sadly. "Whatever champions of your world will fight them. The trouble is… they may not offer us a target to fight. The magic of Atlantis is old and powerful and their mastery of the waves… well, not absolute but very, very potent. There is much they could do without ever showing themselves if they chose to. Which would leave me in a very difficult situation."

Because Rowan knows where Atlantis is. He can show the surface how to target it.

***

And the Atlanteans know that but still, Mera chose to exile Rowan to the surface and not imprison him. "Rowan…" Babs speaks slowly and quietly as she composes her thoughts "Tell me of your opinion of Mera as a war leader. You don't have to say anything if you don't want." Babs shifts slightly and settles again in the corner of the couch, making sure her legs are tucked under her.

***

"The Mera I knew would not hesitate to kill each and every surfacer she could lay her hands on after something like this. And people have tried in the past." Rowan sighs. "This one… is different. The loyalty and fierceness is there but she is not… hardened by war. She will seek to preserve her husband's legacy. But the surface is not loved in Atlantis and she may… not have a choice soon."

***

"Why did she exile you, Rowan? You know where Atlantis is… you are a major threat to Atlantis, but she banished you to the Surface." Babs fixes Rowan with a green stare "Why… why would someone so fierce, so loyal do that?" Dropping her eyes to her cup, Babs sips her tea… maybe she's got it wrong.

***

"She told me that she needed someone she could trust on the surface. The rest of the agents she can sent up… they want war." Rowan may be he only waterfolk aside from Aspen Matthews, whom he's not heard from in months, who does not want Atlantis to go to war with the Surface."

***

That is what Babs wanted to hear. "You may need to fight eventually, Rowan but for now… " she sighs "Mera, and so many others, need you to be a calming force." her tea is sipped as she speaks "I don't need to know anymore but think on what Mera's tasked you with … find the people who can help you do that. I doubt most Surfacers really want war with Atlantis, typically it's a vocal few that seem to speak for the majority." Strange how Babs can work as Oracle as still, at heart, be a pacifist.

***

"It may not matter what the surfacers want if the war faction in Atlantis has it's way. The surface will have to fight to survive. And I know your people. They will." Rowan sighs. "But I shall try."

***

"Atlanteans, many of them, hate surfacers. Some because of water polution, others simply because they're different. There's no shortage of Atlanteans that'd want to go to war with the surface and I don't think even Arthur fully understood what that means. Not in the way I do." Rowan shakes his head. "With Arthur gone Mera may strike, or she may be pressured by her court into striking. The Atlanteans cannot abide weakness in their monarch."

"You… have something for me?" Rowan cants his head.

***

"I know, from when I spoke with Arthur, that there were tensions. And you've said as much… " Babs shrugs slightly "I hope Mera is alright and is safe in all this." The cant of his head gets a small nod. "On the table, there's a box, would you like to get it?" She would, but she's quite comfortable for the time being, resting in the corner of the couch.

***

Rowan rises and goes to the table. He picks up the box and looks at it curiously for a moment before returning to his seat next to Babs and giving the box a little shake. He smiles a little and starts to unwrap it, keeping one eye on Babs.

***

In the box is the coat that Babs commissioned from Kane. A long, black leather coat, water proofed and quite shiny. It should fit the Blue Warrior perfectly… and we won't ask how Babs got his measurements. Maybe Oracle helped.

***

"Oh, wow…" Rowan smiles and just looks at it for a minute or two before standing and trying it on. It does, indeed, fit him perfectly. "How does it look?"

***

Babs thinks it looks pretty good and smiles "I like it" She watches the Blue smile, looking delighted herself "Do you like it?" She's still not sure how much surfacer clothing he really wears.

***

Rowan doesn't often wear coats because he doesn't get cold. However if it gets wet… okay wet doesn't bother him either but it's not great for clothes so coats are handy like that. And it's well made enough to be quite flattering.

"I do." He smiles. "It fits well, looks nice and, most importantly, you gave it to me."

***

"I felt a bit foolish, ordering it." Babs drops her eyes to the tea in her cup "But I liked the look of it and it's something a bit different. And I wanted to give you something." She shrugs "I'm glad you like it."

***

Rowan sits back down and puts an arm around Babs shoulders. "I do. Thank you Babs." He looks out to the window and back. "Did you enjoy the evening?"

***

Rowans arm going around her shoulder, lets Babs move slightly to rest against him "I did enjoy my evening, thank you." She smiles slightly "I liked our text conversation. Were you really texting me while you were a Dragon?" That has the redhead slightly amused.

***

Rowan nods. "Yes, you notice it got faster after a bit? That's when I switched back. Dragon texting is slow…" BUt he can do it. Clawtips. If he's careful… he doesn't have expensive phones.

***

"I did, and I noticed you sent me the photo too." she's still amused at the thought of the Dragon, holding the phone, texting. "What plans did you have for today?" Babs normally gets a few hours sleep before looking at the sunlight hours. "I've got some research that needs addressing some time today."

***

"I don't particularly have any. I've advised my research friends, the ones I work for, to stay out of the Atlantic for now. I think they'll be relocating south or west for a bit to do some studies there." Fortunately Rowan is paid ridiculously well and doesn't even come close to spending much of it, so he's good for now. "Do you want me to stick around?"

***

She thinks on his comment about his work for a bit before continuing "I hadn't thought on the impact on the work you do… I am sorry, Rowan." Reaching for his other hand, Babs gives it a squeeze and laces her fingers with his. "Yes, it would be nice for you to stay, if you want to that is. I do need to get a bit of sleep, an hour or so, and maybe we could go grab some breakfast?" She can easily doze off right where she is, if he sticks around.

***

"I'd love to stay." Rowan doesn't have anywhere else to be. He'd just go home and sleep or explore a bit more and really he'd rather stick around with Babs for several reasons.
