The drive back to Gotham from the old Navy shipyards in Brooklyn is quiet and uneventful enough, even if driving a pickup truck in this weather without a proper amount of weight in the bed leads to some rather dicey steering over particularly icy sections of road. Once they're inside Gotham city limits, she pulls the comm unit that Oracle gave her out of a pocket, shows it to Trent so he can 'listen in', then sets it to transmit. "Oracle. This is May." She keeps on driving toward the safehouse.

***

Mays communication has Oracles eyes turning to her screens as she seeks out the Avatar that marks Mays position. "May, this is Oracle." The redhead sits back in her chair, watching Mays progress through Gotham.

***

Jericho needn't link to the transmitter of the comm since Oracle could hear him just fine without it. And while May drives he's busy working. The signs are subtle but May is used by now to the far away look in his eyes and the one hand gripping the opposite arm, fingers pressing in subtle rhythems to issue haptic commands.

***

Melinda May glances very briefly at Trent, then concentrates mostly on the road. "Returning from speaking with Fury. He's reinstated me, so I'm going to head back." Finally. And heaven help Hill if she so much as LOOKS May's direction any time soon for any reason other than work. "Kendrin's adapting quickly. I think she's okay to fly solo."

***

Not surprising news for Oracle, S.H.I.E.L.D were foolish to put May on leave, a knee jerk reaction no doubt, but still. "Congratulations, that is good news for you, I'm sure. I'm glad he came to his senses." What else can be said? "I'll keep an eye on Kendrin and thank you for the assistance there. Anything you need from me to help you relocate?"

The redhead stirs slightly before settling again "Our little bird returned to active duty last night. I've yet to evaluate him in the field though." The conversation in the Clocktower had gone well, as well as can be expected given the minor lecture he and Nightwing had laid on her, but Robins field readiness hadn't been tested.

***

"No, just letting you know. Though if you want me to help evaluate field readiness," May glances toward Jericho again, "That can probably be arranged." She takes a corner carefully, again mentally cursing this horrid old pickup truck for its lack of proper traction, then offers, "You should ask Trent here about his news on the SHIELD front." It's not gossip if he's RIGHT HERE>

***

Jericho shakes his head, wondering about Robin. He'd gone to the kid's rescue once himself and was left with the distinct impression that the Bats needed to stop (essentially) recruiting child soldiers. Bad business all the way around. "Mmmm?"

The hacker looks up. "Hello Oracle. Apparently I'm an asset these days. More or less." An asset for which the only contact information they have still comes from Melinda May. "I don't know if it's going to change how they see me but it'll at least keep them from trying to haul me in every time I want to warn them about something."

***

Oracle laughs at Jericho's words "I've always considered you an asset, Jericho." a slightly annoying one, but useful none the less. "How did that come about then?" SHIELDS inner workings and Batmans dislike of the agency, has made Oracle treat it at arms length. Besides, recently she's had other bird watchers to consider.

"May, I may just take you up on that offer. The little bird seems like a completely different person, he certainly seems to have matured in the time." But an independant assessment would be a good idea. "I'll ask him to reach out to you."

***

"Acknowledged." May's kind of in work-mode as she concentrates on driving safely. Luckily, they're already nearly to the safehouse. "Other than the one avian, how are the troops holding up?" Yeah, pretty much just trying to maintain idle chatter here. Which is… not typical of May.

***

"Not real sure." Jericho answers Oracle. He has a few ideas but isn't at all certain why Fury chose the route he did. Perhaps SHIELD finally got tired of chasing someone who only a potential threat with so many real ones out there. Or perhaps they realized that pushing him to ground and denying themselves his contact network and information gathering capacity wasn't a beneficial move. He's not betting on the latter though.

"Maybe it was my roguish charm." The deadpan tone of his voice makes it clear that not even he believes that.

***

Oracle considers Mays question and frowns. "We're busy. I've a number of balls in the air. I'm sure you're at least aware of the Atlantean thing too." Not common knowledge that Batmans' been 'seconded' to help there and it's left the team a little thin, then there's Birdwatcher too. "Batmans told me to deal with the HYDRA threats in Gotham, I'm not sure he's going to appreciate that I'll bring in external resources to help there." But she will.

"I'm sure your type of charm doesn't appeal to Fury, Jericho" the woman in the Clocktower shakes her head as she speaks "Perhaps the reason will become clear in the fullness of time."

***

Melinda May stops the truck about half a block from the safehouse and looks to Trent before exiting the vehicle. It's late enough at night now that anyone else out on the street here is likely not going to be friendly. "Fury has reasons for everything he does. We may not like the reasons, but I at least have learned that he has them. And if he thinks telling me those reasons will help me do my job, then he'll tell. Otherwise," she shrugs and leads the way to the safehouse.

***

Jericho shrugs as he gets out. The least he can do here is help May pack up. "I know he does. I'm curious as to his reasons for this, but since all he's done is basically say that it's okay for me to talk to you, I'm not going to complain. He didn't ask anything from me so…" Which is fine. If you were to press him and Jericho were feeling uncharitable he'd probably say that he's done quite a bit for SHIELD already. If that bought him some leeway here that's perfectly fine with him.

"Were you watching someone? Do I need to let you go in first?"

***

Oracle listens to the discussion as she watches her screens. Yes, May is near the safehouse and the rest of the teams are clear of the area. "Video feeds of the area and the house, now the lenses on the cameras are clean again, show it's clear. Of course, the security feeds on the street don't give me a perfect view."

***

Melinda May nods to Trent as she leads the way. "What's Kendrin's location, Oracle?" She reaches the safehouse door, and probably a long-ingrained habit, knocks twice softly before opening the door to go inside.

***

Jericho follows behind May a good three or four feet. Enough that he won't be visible the first thing as May opens the door. He's got some manners after all. And he doesn't expect this'll take long. May packs light, he bets. He also bets that all of her clothes are black. And vaguely tactical looking.

***

Another quick check of her screens and Oracle responds to May "Kendrin isn't in there, May. She's in downtown Gotham at the moment."

Good thing Oracle can multitask, one of her teams just foiled a convenience store holdup and there's a group of bound youths for GCPD to collect.

***

Melinda May steps inside, makes a quick visual check of the entryway, then lets Jericho follow her inside. "Let her know I'm moving out, then." The girl will likely be glad of it. THey may not have been able to communicate much, but May could tell that her presence was starting to grate on the displaced woman. Mostly because the ferret-dragon-thing was becoming more and more … hissy.

***

"I will do that, May" Although Oracle thinks it might be lonely for Kendrin now and makes a note to ensure that the safehouse is restocked. "Is there anything she's going to need in the short term? Food, supplies etc?" It's no secret in the Batclan that if it wasn't for people bringing Oracle food, the woman would forget to eat.

***

"Fresh produce. She seems to prefer it over more processed things." The Doritos debacle will NOT be mentioned EVER again. May takes a moment to put the custom-built 1911 from Partisan on the table in the middle of the living room then starts collecting her personal effects from the rest of the apartment. Not that there are all that many items for her to collect. Still.

***

"Got it, fresh produce" The information is noted by Oracle "Will she tolerate some processed foods? It might be necessary." The redhead rolls her neck and sits forward "It's been good having you around May."

***

"Minimally processed. I got the impression that the sodium or the preservatives didn't agree with her." To be fair, May doesn't care for a lot of overly processed foods herself, so it wasn't any kind of hardship. "Oh, and the little rat-thing, it seems to prefer meat." She gets the last of her effects together and shoulders her bag, going back to the living room where presumably Jericho has been waiting patiently. Or, you know, has been standing zoned out while he surfs the internet inside his brain.

***

"And some form of kitty litter too, I assume" Oracles tone is dry, not that it will it through the digital alterations. She hasn't asked anything about SHIELD or Mays reinstatement, not because she's not interested but she gets security protocol. "If we find anything you've left" not that the redhead expects that to be the case "I'll contact Jericho and he can pass it on. Anything else I should be aware of?"

***

Melinda May tucks the pistol away again under her jacket. "I think that's it." Her eyes sweep around the room one more time. "Again. Thank you, Oracle. I needed this." She then gives Jericho another look to see if he's still zoned out or what before heading for the door.

***

Watching as that pistol gets tucked away, Oracle nods slowly to herself. "Anytime, May." The Oracle network helps people and that includes her own team. "You're assistance was appreciated, more than appreciated in fact. Let me know if I can be of further assistance." Sitting back again, watching her screens, the woman chews her bottom lip for a moment "May I call on your support, if needed in the future?"

***

"Yes." May nods a bit as she says that. "Don't hesitate. If I'm not otherwise occupied, I'll be here as fast as possible."

***

"I won't hesitate." Oracle knows there are darker days ahead for Gotham and she intends to use the network she's been creating. "Take care May and look after Jericho, try to keep him out of too much trouble." The redhead watches as Mays Avatar moves on her screens "Oh, keep the communicator, it might come in handy sometime. I do expect you'll have to keep that on the down low though."
