After the snow and ice of Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday has been rather mild. It leads more people out in the snow for snowball fights, snow angels and other general mayhem. Kitty, on the otherhand, is on the inside, waiting in the main hallway for a certain wayward speedster to give a proper tour.

The resident phasing mutant leans against one of the walls as she watches various students and teachers filter through the hallways, fragments of conversations waxing and waning as they pass by. Though her arms are crossed in front of her - tights, a short skirt, t-shirt and leather jacket giving her something of a biker chic - she doesn't seem closed off. In fact, there's a hint of a smirk on her face as she takes in the mansion she's considered her home basically since she was a tween.

*

It would be really tempting to steal stuff if they weren't giving him food and a place to stay. Biting the hand that…housed him would be too low even for Quicksilver. He's been people watching, striking up conversations with the students occasionally and generally feeling things out. He has been behaving, more or less. He hasn't even tried to get in anywhere he isn't supposed to go!

Kitty would be forgiven for missing his approach. He's suddenly beside her, a foot or so away. "Sup?" he snaps a piece of gum and blows a bubble.

He has a very…distinct fashion sense that involves a lot of metallics. Today it's a Queen band shirt, a pair of blue jeans with a slight shimmer to them, a leather belt with a burnished belt buckle that wouldn't look out of place on a cowboy, and an asyymetrical pale blue hoodie with lots of zippers. He's also wearing a pair of disco ball chucks, one with red laces and the other with yellow. And somehow, he makes it work.

*

There is certainly a start when the Quicksilver basically apparates next to her. Kitty suddenly straightens, her hands dropping to her sides into a defensive stance before she realizes who it is that is addressing her. One would think that her own ability to startle people would make her immune, but that's not strictly the case. Super speed is a different beast than phasing.

The brunette mutant can't help but smile at the approach of the strangely dressed younger man now beside her. "Well, a tour, I think. If you're up for it. How've you been enjoying Xavier's so far? Should I call you Quicksilver or Pietro?"

*

"People seem nice," says Quicksilver as he jaws the hunk of Hubba Bubba. It's not silver, at least. He offers a square of cherry bubblegum out to Kitty. "Either-or. I'm not fussy." He looks around and then back to Kitty. "I've been all over the places that people will let me go," to be fair, that would take him like, thirty seconds, "But I'd still like it if you showed me."

*

"They can be, yeah." Of course, kids can also be kids. At the offer of the Hubba Bubba, she just shakes her head. "No, thanks though." As he doesn't seem to have a preference to his name, she'll just go with given for now. "I'm sure you have. Though, how much can you really take in at super sonic speeds?" That's an interesting question. How is his brain wired in order to process all the information so quickly while moving at such speed? Maybe something to talk to Hank about later for a discussion.

"It'll, at least, be a bit different at a slower pace. And I can tell you some insider information - as best I can. I went here as kid, but things might've changed since then. People don't tell teachers anything new." And with that taken care of, Kitty moves forward through the halls and toward the different classrooms. "Are you here for the school itself or for more of a place to stay?"

*

"It's not like you driving in a car and then not seeing what you go past because it's all blurring by or anything," says Quicksilver. Snap snap. Pop. "Time kinda slows down for me when I get up to speed. Which is why I could turn those snowballs around." He snort-laughs at his own memory of that incident.

"I'm here 'cause I don't know where else to go," he says with a surprising amount of candor. "So how did you end up going to shcool here and then also being a teacher? Of computer stuff, right? Like coding or whatever right? The stuff that makes the internet do its thing." He uh, he didn't exactly grow up in a highly wired country.

*

"So, it's more of a time dilation?" Kitty's truly intrigued. And while he may not know much about computers or coding, he may have more insight into how he does what he does. "You remain moving at a singular speed and are able to slow a bubble around yourself?" After a pause, she realizes it may be rude to probe. "I mean, you don't have to answer if you don't want to. I'm just curious. You know, that and that cat. That's me."

As for her own story, the curly haired woman shrugs. "Professor Xavier found me. I had horrible headaches and would fall through solid floors. Then, he brought me here, trained me, gave me the best education I could ask for. I traveled a bit, but this is really where home is. I was always into computers, and that seems to be a good thing to teach the kids these days, so here I am."

*

"Iunno," says Quicksilver. He scratches his neck and snaps the gum. "All I know is when I get going fast, I can move stuff around and walk on walls and stuff. Oooh. And if I move my hand back and forth, stuff breaks." Big grin.

He listens to her story, then snaps. "Oh. Oh. Can you teach me how to get music from the internet? We only had CDs when I was a kid. And some tapes. My uncle had lots of tapes. And vinyl." Surely an insurmountable challenge for a woman of Kitty's intellect.

*

"Well, if you're going to be here for a bit, if you wouldn't mind us seeing how you do what you do, that'd be interesting to take a look into." Maybe not the breaking a bunch of things, but his ability to traverse super speeds. Kitty gives a raised eyebrow and a smirk. "I certainly can. You'll be listening to whatever it is you listen to in no time once I teach you the wonders of iTunes and Spotify." That leads into the next obvious question, "Where did you grow up?"

*

"I don't wanna be hooked up to machines. I trusted people with that before and it got me in trouble." Quicksilver rests his fingers in his beltloops and rolls his shoulders forward. Her question gives him pause, but he decides to tell her, for whatever reason. "A little country called Transia. On the border of Romania." When he says the name of his country, an accent slips in to an otherwise fully American-sounding accent.

*

"No machines, then. It's not a formal scientific inquest. Just a general desire to understand how your abilities work. Professor Xavier is very good at helping better understand their mutations through careful study." It's, after all, how Kitty learned what she knows now. That and some field testing. "Transia," she repeats after him. "I've heard of it, but I must say I don't know much about it other than it's name." While she may hear the note of accent that slips through, she doesn't comment on it.

*

Quicksilver digs his hands down into his pockets. There's a faint blur, and when he returns, the gum has been ditched somewhere. Presumably in the trashcan like a polite houseguest. "So how long can I stay here before I have to sign on the dotted line?" He says that like he's in a halfway house and is going to be asked to move along.

*

"Dotted line?" Kitty tilts her head just slightly at the question and possibly at the missing gum now. She won't ask - maybe because she hasn't noticed yet. "I mean, I guess it depends on how long you'd wish to stay here. Xavier's is a private institution, but we certainly offer scholarships and help to those without the funds to stay here." Though it sounds like she is being coy, she waits for a moment before adding, "Otherwise, I can't say that there is a price for staying here. This is a refuge for people who would otherwise be casted out by the world."

*

"And probably a place to keep dangerous mutants out of trouble, right?" Quicksilver does sound suspicious, but from his perspective, this place is too good to be true. And he's been fooled once before. "I didn't really think further ahead than getting my sister out of Transia. I brought us here 'cause the movies and stuff made this look like a pretty good place. I didn't realize how rough it'd be."

*

"Well, I mean, are you talking like a reform school?" Kitty pushes through another set of doors and they find themselves in the kitchen. At the moment it's empty, but there's a buzz of conversation coming from the common area through another set of doors. "Not really. I mean, we definitely have a few people here whose powers would be considered dangerous. But, we're all about teaching people to control that and to make sure they don't hurt themselves or anyone else." She's gone through her own problems with betrayal and mistrust, so she certainly recognizes the signs. "Professor Xavier's the real deal, Pietro. He really cares about this place and the people here."

*

"I guess I'm just trying to figure out the angle. And don't tell me there isn't one. Everyone always has one. Always." Quicksilver pokes around the kitchen, zipping about and opening cupboards. He doesn't seem to be looking for anything in particular. He's just being nosy.

*

As Quicksilver zips through the different cabinets, Kitty leans against one of the counters. Her hip rests against the wooden top, arms crossed in front of her. "Well, the Professor's angle is mostly that if we're to be taken seriously and not to be feared, we have to show them that there's nothing to fear by us. That we can help the world - and we may actually be the only people to be able to do that properly when they're trying to fight people who can do what we do."

*

Her eyes raise up to the ceiling and then survey the rest of the room. "And this is a start. To show we all live under a roof and aren't out to take over the world." That brings out a smirk. She can't help it.

*

"Man, who wants to take over the world? That'd be a lot of work. And a lot of responsibility." Quicksilver actually sounds like he's pondering this in a serious manner. Like he's actually considered world domination as a valid career choice. Which would make more sense if anyone had any idea who his real father is. "So I know you're not exactly unbiased or anything. But do you think I should stick around? I mean, I'm too old to be a student here."

*

"I've heard of a few people." Kitty gives a soft laugh, despite the very serious topic of conversation they're discussing. In fact, she's been involved with a mission or two that involved stopping a person or the other in their attempt at either world or at least continent domination. "Like you said, I'm not unbiased, but I love it here. I'm not a student and I still stick around. I'm sure there's a place for you somewhere. I'm sure you'd make an excellent gym teacher." That's a joke, see.

*

Quicksilver exhales and makes a sound not unlike a snorting horse. Pbbbttth. He cracks a grin. He shifts and leans back on the kitchen counter and kicks out his shiny shoes. "I've stolen. Kind of…kind of a lot. Is that a problem?" His eyebrows arch.

*

Unable to keep her eyes off the shiny shoes, Kitty's eyes drift downward toward them. His outfits are certainly something else. "Well, I mean, I'm not going to say I approve of it, but I'm pretty sure the Professor'd know about that. And if you're okay by his book, you'd be okay by a lot of other people's books. As long as you don't steal my stuff. If you do, I hold no responsibility for my acts of retaliation against you. Got it?" Again, teasing. Kitty's never really been on to stay very serious for very long if the occasion doesn't require it.

*

It really says something about Pietro that he can dress this loud and somehow still make it work. Maybe that's his real mutant power. Then again, when your hair and eyebrows are silver, you kinda need to work with what your genes gave you. "Oh ho. I do love a good prank war." His eyes light up and he rubs his hands together.

*

"That…that was not an invitation!" Kitty points a finger at Quicksilver, dancing her pointer about to prove that she is serious. Though, if he's already excited about a prank war, that does mean that he sounds like he may stay here for at least a little while. "The last thing you want is a prank war with a woman who can walk through walls. Believe me. That sort of thing never ends well."

*

Quicksilver opens his mouth wide and makes a playful grab for the pointing finger. "And you don't want to go to war with a guy who can put thirty tacks on your seat in the time it takes you to decide to sit." His eyes dance with mirth.

*

"Wouldn't matter if I can't feel 'em because I phase through the seat," Kitty counters, retracting her finger from the playful grab with a laugh. It seems the pranks would certainly be well matched. She puts her hands on her hips and pushes away from the counter, continuing their tour through the kitchen and into a common room. There are a couple of students here horsing around as well as a few studying.

*

"This place is so big. Ooh. Are there secret passages?" Quicksilver walks backwards and in front of her. He smiles big and starts to look around for signs of cracks. At least he doesn't go pulling at the woodwork. Yet.

*

As for the secret passages, Kitty only raises an eyebrow. With a kid like this, he'll eventually find them. But, that doesn't mean she should actively encourage such explorations. "There are places the students aren't allowed to go. If you're here long enough, I'm sure you'll see them."
