After the trip to Metropolis, Rowan had returned to his home in New York… with a passenger. The weather is still gloomy and forboding and travel and communications in and out of anywhere quite difficult. Still, dragon taxi means that at least dealing with traffic jams isn't an issue. Once home the Blue had gone to cook dinner. He understands lobster tail and scallops are considered delicacies if fresh.

***

Babs is watching Rowan preparing dinner, positioned in the doorway, out of the way. Her tablet is resting in her lap, so she can monitor her network but right now, she's paying attention to the Blue "Thanks for coming with me, Rowan. That was a strange meeting, today." she sighs "Well it was strange to me, particularly with the talk of leylines. I'll make it up to you, though."

***

"Oh you're welcome. There's nothing to make up…" The sound of sizzling seafood can be heard (and the results smelt) from the not very distant kitchen. "Though of course I'd never turn down an offer of your company." Rowan grins.

***

Babs smiles faintly at the Blues words "You always say the nicest things." Breathing deeply, the smile deepens "That smells lovely. What are you cooking, or is it a surprise?" After a small pause, the redhead continues "Speaking of spending time together, you remember Misfit… um Charlie? She's moved in with me… you'll be seeing her when you're there."

***

"Lobster tail and scallops… and vegetables. Er. Salad, sorry." Rowan still has to think about surfacer food names. "Charlie… oh yes. The teleporter. Okay, I'll look forward to seeing her." The dragon-blue can be remarkably accepting of some things.

***

"Yes the teleporter. The one that's nicknamed you Falcor" Babs finds that excessively funny. She is, in fact, quite fond of the young woman. "You seem to be experimenting with cooking… I'm sure it will be delicious." The Information Goddess inclines her head slightly "Have you had news from Atlantis?" It has been a few days since they spoke of the Atlantean threat.

***

"No, but I wouldn't, necessarily. Unless Mera chooses to talk to me I'm rather in exile. I have debated attempting to contact the Blue… well, more than debated. I got one of my scientist frends to rig me up a few sonar bouys set to repeat a signal and flew them down to the carribean a couple days ago… I'll check on them soon." Rowan plates the food and then brings it over.

***

That is most certainly, more than debated and Babs watches Rowan as he brings the food over. "What are you thinking there, Rowan?" Babs waits out of the way for him to put the plates on the table.

***

"I wish to speak with them outside the Atlantean Sphere. Find out what is happening. I do not know if it will work but…" He's hopeful. The signal he sent was an old military one on his own world. Rowan hopes that the Blue will recognize it or at least be curious and respond.

***

Moving towards the table, as he places the plates, Babs listens "You don't know any Blues outside of Atlantis?" Watching Rowan thoughtfully, she smiles gently. She has things she can't share with Rowan and it might be similar for him.

***

"No… not a one. And the Blue I do know are all diplomatic staff. I'm… hoping to meet others. Soon. Well… there's Aspen. You may meet her at some point. Doctor Aspen Matthews. She's Blue but… she doesn't know how to be. Raised on the surface her whole life. I promised to teach her a few things, though that's another reason it'd be best to find a greater concentration of my own kind."

***

"OK, is there something I can do to help you there?" Babs waits for Rowan to sit, so they can start eating. "Dr Matthews sounds like an interesting story" The red head can imagine Rowan offering to help … and that a community of Blue would be of benefit to that.

***

Rowan takes a seat and starts to eat a bit. "I'm not sure. Perhaps… I shall let you know, though. In any case I will be meeting with Aspen as soon as it is convenient for her." He grimaces slightly. "First lesson will be the hardest, I think."

***

Babs smiles as she watches Rowan start eating and then starts on her own meal. "It's delicious, Rowan. You're quite adept at cooking." Certainly more than she is. Enjoying her meal in silence for a few more minutes, she turns her eyes to the Blue "Why do you think the first lesson will be hardest?"

***

"Because she has to learn that she will not drown. She is used to thinking that she will. She may panic when breathing water in for the first time." Rowan takes a few bites. It's really not bad. He leans back and takes Babs free hand.

***

"Well then…" Babs smiles as Rowan takes her hand, lacing her fingers through his "that will be a difficult lesson." And she doesn't envy the Blue being the teacher there.

***

"It will be… but worth it. She's Blue. Not even half. She is one of our people. And I think she deserves to know who they are." Rowan certainly admires his people and were it not for Babs probably would have sought out 'home' long ago.

***

"Well of course she does. If she wants to … " Babs tilts her head. "I think it's great that you want to help her." She's finished her dinner and looks at the plate "That was very nice, Rowan. Thank you."

***

"Understand, Babs, that Aspen was someone important to the Blue on my homeworld. Not to me personally. I barely knew her. Saw her at state functions. She was much higher ranking than I. A hydrokine and a powerful weapon and influential soldier. I do not know if this Aspen can be but I am convinced more than ever with Atlantis doing what it's doing that it's necessary to give her that chance." Rowan smiles at the compliment. "I'm glad you liked it."

***

Babs squeezes Rowan's hand and gives a slight shake of her head "That is what I meant, give her the chance." The red head sighs a little and frowns "I'm sure I recognise her name but that person was an Olympic swimmer. Can it be the same person?" The smile gets one in return "Of course I liked it."

***

"It is… apparently our physiology gives off markers similar to some methods of cheating…" Rowan looked it up after his crash into DMD. "Her victory was taken from her for that reason. So… yes it is." The Blue smiles. He's rather pleased that his cooking seems to be improving enough for Babs to enjoy it.

***

Nodding slowly, Babs considers that information "Well, that's interesting. I really hope that she wants to work with you, Rowan" Babs knows this Atlantean thing has hurt him, at least a little. "I want to help you, if I can. But I do understand if that can't be."

***

"I think it can." Rowan smiles squeezing Babs fingers. "I am just not sure how yet. My people seem very reclusive on this world. I may need your assistance getting their attention." Since it's not like he can swim down there and start looking. Well he can but it's not very efficient.

***

"Oh, I'm sure I can help you with that." Babs starts smiling brightly and then frowns "Well, with this Atlantean cloud it's a little more difficult these days." Her satellite links are all affected, badly. But still, she's got to see how she can around that. "If you tell me what sort of things we can look for, or what we can do, I'll see what I can do." The red head is her element with this type of request.

***

"Hopefully that will be resolved. If not we may have to make a day trip." Rowan shakes his head. "Then again, if the cloud does not disperse soon we may have things beyond contacting my people to worry about. Much bigger things."

***

"Because the Atlanteans will use it to launch some form of weather attack?" Babs is stretching but that seems a logical course of action. "If you can get me out from the cloud cover, there's a lot more I can do." The red head looks to the Blue and smiles slightly "Have you finished your dinner? If so I'll start clearing."

***

"I have… here let me help you.." Rowan stands and does indeed start to help "No, it is because long term manipulation of a storm like this will severely impact the world's weather patterns. We're likely already looking at flooding and drought in some places as a result, also a spoilage of crops and rise in food prices to say nothing of the damage done to the world's economies. If it continues much longer, the surface world won't have a choice but to begin striking back at whatever target presents itself. And I do not for a moment think that they will not find a way."

***

"That started the minute that coverage went over, Rowan. The financial markets among other things are all affected but yes, I take your point. The wideranging, long term, effects are very concerning." Babs balances plates and heads to the kitchen "Hand wash or dishwasher?"

***

Rowan smiles sheepishly. "I haven't figured out how to work the thing yet. Just been… doing it all by hand. Seemed the easiest way. And it got the dishes clean. To be honest with you it took me a while to see the need for dishes."

***

Babs stifles a small laugh at that admission. "Well, you're going to learn something new tonight. But we'll have to handwash, I doubt you're got dishwasher powder. Or do you?" she shrugs "If it's just yourself and another, often handwashing is better anyway."

***

"Um, perhaps?" Rowan opens the cabine beneath his sink and looks. Yes… this seems that he does have detergant. Just couldn't figure out what to do with it. "Surfacers do seem to have machines for a lot of things." Quite a lot of things indeed. "Where the Atlanteans would use enchantments."

***

"Yes we do." Babs shows Rowan how to load the dishes into the dishwasher, where to load the detergent and how to turn it on as she speaks. "And it's the manufacture and use of those machines, a lot of the time, that causes the pollution and water damage that the Atlanteans object to."

***

"Mmmmmm…" Rowan says slowly. He's clearly turning something over in his head but… mmm. Yeah. "Well perhaps that can be addressed at some point. Though until they provide a better way to interact with them I'm really no sure how…"

***

"I know Rowan." Babs speaks softly "It was just an observation." She smiles then as she turns the dishwasher on "What shall we do now?"

***

"Well… now that you've shown me the wonders of surfacer machine magic…" Rowan grins. "I thought we might… settle down for an evening in? The shores are a bit gloomy and cold for walking but there's hot tea and popcorn and movies I can't make heads or tails of."

***

"That's sounds wonderful." Babs smiles up at the Blue "We can curl up on your couch and you can ask me annoying questions about what we're watching." That seems to hold a certain appeal for the red head as she moves towards the couch and his TV.
