Simmons has been slowly getting back into the swing of things at the Triskelion since returning from her "out of town" duties. Today, finds the young Biochemist in the R&D laboratory, lab jacket and safety goggles on leaning over a microscope. Beside her on the table is a notebook, filled with her neat handwriting. Every so often, Jemma pauses and looks up from the scope to make a note in that book and then looks back down.

***

Having just returned from one of the regular quick hop trips (she gets tapped to fly teams of agents frequently), Agent May is walking through the Triskelion to report in. She's just passing by R&D and she notices Simmons there. She must be back from her mission.

Deciding to drop in and say hello, she detours from her path and enters the lab area. She makes a point of making enough noise to announce her presence, so she doesn't startle the biochemist.

***

The noise is sufficient and Simmons looks up from the scope, taking a minute or two to focus on May. "Agent May. How lovely to see you." Simmons rather likes the serious agent and it shows in the warm smile she flashes to her. "Fancy both of us being here at the same time."

***

Melinda May nods, crossing her arms and trying for a nonchalant stance, leaning one hip against a worktable. "Well, I just got back from doing a bit of puddle jumping. How long have you been back?"

***

Simmons frowns a little and sighs "With everything that's going on, it's seems a life time really…. " she thinks for a few moment and nods slightly "probably two weeks? Maybe a little more. With Fitz's project and interruptions by someone else, I'm a little unsure."

***

Melinda May hmphs faintly in a rare show of something that might actually be amusement. "I know how that can be. "Well, here's hoping you're not going to be shuffled off again soon. Fitz was THIS close to becoming intolerable. Downright annoying. You on board with his project already?"

***

Jemma hadn't noticed… "As much as I can be…." Simmons sighs slightly "He's taking it so seriously…" as she would, of course it just translates differently. "I'm trying to bring myself up to speed as quickly as possible with the information available." No mention of Jericho or Illyana at this point… she's not sure how much May knows.

***

Melinda May nods once. "Good. Then you can help me get Fitz over to talk with Trent. He's afraid of being seen with the man." And by the faint tinge of sarcasm that color's May's voice, she clearly things the other scientist is completely daft for behaving that way. "And I might have a favor to ask you as well… off the books."
Jemma flushes at the mention of Trents name "You know Jericho? How about Illyana?" Subtle Simmons, really subtle! Simmons has so far had an 'off the books meeting' with the two Limbo dwellers and been stolen away to Limbo already. "Oh? Off the books?"

***

"Yes, Illyana too, though Trent would be the primary contact." May nods again at the question about 'off the books', but doesn't say anything more about it. Not here and not now. "Oh, and maybe come prepared with ice cream."

***

"Oh…" Simmons looks utterly confused. Her introduction to Henson was it sitting on Illyana's lap, no mention of icecream at all. "Is there a particular brand or flavour I should bring?" Blowing out a deep breath, the young scientist fixes May with a steady gaze "This will earn me a lecture from Fitz, won't it?"

***

Melinda May scoffs faintly. "Not if you make sure to drag him along. And no ice cream preference. I think Trent's little pet demon eats it purely as a novelty. But it might get you closer to the thing's good graces, and that's potentially useful." She straightens away from the table, looking a bit more serious now. "The off the books project isn't anything that'll get anyone in trouble."

***

"I am trying May…" Simmons shakes her head "This responsibility thing from Fury…. it's had rather a big impact." Nodding "If I can, the next the time, I'll bring icecream." K'Nert had rather unnerved the young scientist… maybe it was the demonic Trent and Illyana spoke to him him. "Another project?" Now… she sounds interested.

***

Melinda May nods again, then tilts her head toward the door. "It's your break time, right?" Without waiting for the biochemist's answer, she turns and heads for the door.

***

"Ummm… well yes…" Jemma stows the sample slides away and tidies her workspace quickly before hurrying after May. "Where are we going, Agent May…" she's still wearing her safety goggles as she scurries.

***

Melinda May looks at Jemma's safety goggles rather pointedly while she leads the scientist out of the building proper. It's a reasonably short walk to a local coffee shop, and that's where she finally stops. Claiming a small, out of the way table, she gestures for Jemma to sit, then puts a small USB-like device on the table. When it lights up, though, there's the faintest shivery sensation. Simmons would likely recognize the tech as a device to block surveillance equipment.

"I want you to develop an electrolyte solution that's about ten times as concentrated as anything currently available."

***

Seeing Mays pointed glance, Jemma palms the goggle from her face and pockets them as she follows the dour agent from the laboratory. Sitting, Jemma eyes the device with a level of suspicion before settling "oh?" is all she says to Mays statement.

***

"Can you do it?" Clearly, May isn't going to take so non-committal a response, and she IS going to insist on a promise to help before sharing any more information.

***

"Ummm well…." Simmons is frowning deeply "You know that's like asking how long a piece of string is right?" Jemma blows out a /very/ long breath "I /might/ be able to do it."

***

"I'd appreciate it if you would try." May knows she's being cryptic but she can't be fully sure that revealing why she'd want a concentrated electrolyte solution would not cause more problems than it solves for Trent. "In the meantime, I want you to accompany me to DC on a delivery run to Quantico."

***

Simmons tilts her head slightly and regards May "Of course, May. I'll get it my best shot." Blinking slightly, the young biochem nods slowly "Delivery run, Quantico. I can do that. When?"

***

Melinda May says, "A few days from now at the most." May makes a mental note to forward the details to Simmons. "We'll be taking the Bus as it's going to include a contingent of scientists, and the cargo is pressure sensitive." Hence the pressurized and sealed cargo containers that the Bus carries."

***

Melinda May offers with a slight shrug, "I need someone I know to keep the eggheads from crawling all over the Bus." That she thinks highly enough of Simmons to ask her to undertake this task goes unspoken. "If you agree, I'll make sure the lab space is prepped for you." With Jemma's help, this milk run might actually turn out to be less annoying than she was dreading it would be.

***

"Well, that's easy then" Jemma smiles, if a little bemused "I can most certainly do that." It sounds like it's going to be a easy run for the young scientist. "And having lab space ready, would be fabulous." If it makes it less annoying for May, all the better.

***

Melinda May nods. "Good. Ready to head back?" May moves as if to stand. If Jemma follows, good. If she's not ready to leave yet, she'll wait for her. Nothing pressing going on right now.

***

Simmons is and stands to follow May, nodding to the device on the table. "You'll want to take that." As she waits for May she adds "I'll work on the electrolyte solution as well, maybe I can do it on the Bus." That would work nicely in fact.

***

Melinda May scoops up the little device and returns it to her pocket after turning it off. She hadn't forgotten about it, really! "That can work. Get me a list of supplies, and I'll requisition them." She leads the way back out of the coffee shop.
