Gotham has a network of old tunnels and subway extensions and water-works: relics of a bygone era of prosperity, or failed projects left forgotten. Together they comprise the Gotham underground, a dangerous city beneath the city that houses many of the criminals that plague the people night after night. Right now the Fox is riding down one of the larger ones. Originally intended to be a subway tunnel it's now dusty and poorly lit. Perfect hiding place for a Snake Cult. Or so he hears.

***

Harper was there, aptly named Bluebird. Earlier in the day, due to work, she was in that part of the town, but something spooked her away to the point where she couldn't really sleep, couldn't not think about it, so she had to WWBD. What would Batman do. He'd go down there and investigate, kick their pansy asses and send them packing. Which is what she was going to do. They were messing with her bread and butter there, she already had been penalized for not fixing up the power surges in that area, so she was going to make whomever down there pay. Probably a bunch of vagrants. They'd still pay even though their broke, cause no one messes with Harper Row. Ya' dig?

Manhole cover pried off with a crowbar and thirty minutes of tugging and pulling, and with a slip she was soon down into the tunnels, landing upon her feet with a bend of her knees that places fingers upon the ground in the sewage.

"Awgh, god. This smells of sick.." She exclaims, shaking off her hand with disgust hidden beneath ski-masked features.

***

Kanes contacted Zee and told her about the 'Snake Cult' and the young magician teleports in, just in front of where Kane is currently riding, with a soft 'pop' sound. She's actually dressed in her costume, due to the mention of the cult, and she wrinkles her nose at the smell and environment "You take me to the nicest places, Fox." and then turns as Harper speaks and peers into the gloom "Did you hear that?"

***

"I did…" The Fox urges the elk he's riding forward and reaches for his crossbow as he peers into the darkness… "Ah… Bluebird." His eyebrows go up behind his mask. "Fancy seeing you here." He looks over to Zee. "Did you contact her?"

Up ahead there's a faint chanting that can be heard. Hrm. That's probably a sign that all is not right.

***

Hearing voices up ahead, Bluebird wipes her hands along the back of her pants, which soon draw down towards her knees where she wrongly places her two pistols. They were unlike any other pistols, a switch along the side fires them to life, electricity giving her both light and protection as she eases her way forward. Both guns were held in front of her, her head tilting just a little in the dark, spying the two afar with a slight frown.

"Oh. It's you two." Zatanna was looking good. Fox still lookin' creepy. But whatever, more back up the better things have a chance of not going south.

"She didn't contact me." Bluebird speaks up, leaping out of the water to stomp her boots onto the ground, taking up along the sides as she nears the two with a deep frown gone unseen. "What the hell…" She mutters to herself, looking towards the two, questioning.

***

"I didn't" Zee confirms as Bluebird speaks. The guns get an interested look from the young magician and her eyebrows rise. "What are you doin…." the sentence trails as the chanting is heard "Oh goodie… " the words are at odds with her tone.

Looking over to The Fox and then to Bluebird, Zee inclines her head in the direction of the chanting. "That sounds like what we came looking for… shall we?"

***

The Fox looks up ahead. "Yeah it does. Shall we? Help is good for this kind of thing." He urges that elk up head at a walk. There's another hundred yards or so of tunnel to cover at the end of which it takes a sharp bend right into a disused track exchange. Dismounting, the Fox dips into a pack at his side and keeps his hand there, as he listens. There's a lot of chanting in a language that sounds vaguely nordic or germanic and then a sharp and sudden. "HAIL HYDRA!"

***

Bluebird lets her gun-tasers hang loosely upon her fingers. Right above the water. Not smart, not smart at all. The lighthearted gaze soon goes towards Zatanna, her eyes smiling through the mask. "What? I's just protecting myself." But, game face was back on as she continues the slow walk, never missing a beat in the pace, save for stopping to carefully itch her face with the butt of her makeshift guns.

The chanting grows louder, her brows furrow and.. Hail Hydra?

"…Fuck that. I'm out." She makes moves to leave but, doesn't. She was just joking to hide how nervous she really was.

***

"Just interested" Zee grins to Bluebird as she starts moving as well. "HYDRA?" she looks to The Fox "Seems like you've uncovered a snakes nest, Fox." What is it with all the animal names today? Stopping just at that bend, the young magician looks as Bluebird speaks and nods when she realises the other young woman is just nervous.

"What do you think, Fox? If this is a snakes nest, they're going to be very dangerous." Fanatically and dangerous…

***

These sewers. They're like Hotel California. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave. And, they have very recently become Reason #96. No matter how many times Agent Melinda May makes it clear that she HATES Gotham, SHIELD keeps sending her that way. Of course, it's probably because of the Hydra angle on this one, but still.

Having been moving carefully along a different subterranean tunnel than the others, she's been using a fancy and easier to wear SHIELD version of those low light vision things. Mentally cursing when she hears the echoed shout of 'Hail Hydra!', she starts moving a bit quicker, but then stops at a different set of voices. Ones she recognizes. Removing her night vision equipment, she moves stealthily-like up to the nearest intersection where she can now see the faintly blue glow of a particular elk and at the last moment makes sure to step loudly enough to be heard as she enters the others' field of view.

"Understatement, Zatara." May raises what look like a pair of small, metallic practice swords — as if someone took a pair of bokken and coated them in a dull greenish-grey metal — and tilts her head toward the chanting voices. "Hope you brought the good toys. You going to stand there all day or what?"

***

"Agent May, nice to see you here." The Fox notes. "Well, four of us should be good. Shall we?" The druid readies his crossbow and spins around the corner. There's a pair of 'thwip-boom' noises as he unleashes concussive bolts at the nearst two robed cultists. The guards clear he dives into the main room and… just stops and stares. "Oh. That… wasn't quite what I was expecting."

The Room has been converted into some kind place of worship and at the top of it, on a large dias is a seven headed, scaled monstrosity the size of subway car, looking over it's worshipers as if trying to decide what to do with them. It seems… less than amused at the intrusion. Like a bear whose den has been entered.

Hail Hydra… right…

***

Even though Zee told her about Hydra the other day? Bluebird was really in no rush to meet them. But since she actually has to work down in these parts, she supposes that it was a good thing that others were here. She keeps her mouth shut this time around, keeping her cool, eyes peeled to the darkness, gaze falling back as Melinda makes her appearance, keeping her gun hands low and pressed to her sides so that she doesn't haul off and shoot willy nilly.

Cause Harper and Willy Nilly go hand in hand, y'see.

As the Fox makes his move into the area, Bluebird follows close behind, skidding to a stop as her mouth hangs agape behind the ski-mask.. yeah. This is way above her pay grade. The guns were powered off immediately as she really takes a step back, shoving them back into the holster as she snaps her fingers to point towards the monstrosity. "So.. I am /totally/ not playing with you guys anymore. You all got this, right?"

***

"Hello Agent May" Zatanna smiles brightly "Meet Bluebird" she inclines her head to the other young woman and then follows The Fox into the room "Uhhh Fox, that's not the HYDRA I was expecting." With a sigh and a small smirk to Bluebird "You don't like having fun?" Cause, you know, attacking a real, down to earth, Hydra… is fun (truly).

Looking more seriously to Bluebird, the young magician considers "Those pistols of yours, was that electricity? Cause if so, I could sure use it to power a spell."

***

Melinda May huffs in annoyance at the crossbow-wielding man then follows him in to the main chamber. Okay, yeah. If anyone here speaks Mandarin Chinese, she really did just say 'Holy Mother of God and all her wacky nephews'. But then she snags the masked Bluebird by one arm. "Too late to change your mind. Concentrate on disabling the robed idiots." She steals one of Bluebird's guns and tosses it to Zatanna before switching out her non-bladed bokken for what looks like a weight on a length of paracord and a small flask of oil. Let's just hope this room is big enough for what she has in mind.

***

The hydra roars and starts to (slowly) stomp down the dias toward the intruders as the cult adherants all turn to look at them. "SACRIFICES FOR THE SNAKE GOD!"

"Oh for the love of…" The Fox has his hands full shooting concussive bolts into the crowd, knocking them down and scattering them but there's probably fourty or fifty and very quickly Kane is forced to switch to his sword. Which it must be noted, he's very good at.

"Fire! We're going to need fire to deal with snakey over there… After we cut his heads off."

***

Right when Harper was about to back out of the scene entirely, her arm is grabbed and that gaze went right towards Melinda, with the need to clean her clock if she squeezes any harder. "You better let.. HEY! That's MY gun! I didn't say she could.. aaawwwggghh…" Hydras. Bluebird was sure that this isn't the hydra they're talking about. She was really, really sure that they weren't talking about a snaaaake..

Harper reaches behind herself to draw out a steel rod, pressing a button to fire it to life as she heads into the fray, away from the snake and towards the follows as they offer them up like pancakes to the hungry beast.

"No." *TING* "We're!" *BING!* "NOT!" *THWACK-BZZZT!*

It wasn't as if she were the best fighter, but most of the ones she mowed through weren't putting up a fight. With a bop and a zap, they were going down, all the while Harper glanced around the tiny citadel for a way to re-route water..

***

All Zee needed was the electricity so she could magnify its effect…. now she has a pistol in her hand and she looks rather uncomfortable. Fumbling, she looks how to turn it on and locates the switch on the side… the pistol flares and the young mage nods slowly. "OK, electricity… now, let me see."

~ yticirtcelE nutS dnA erujnI ehT ardyH ~

With a wave of her hand, Zee gestures from the electricity in the pistol and 'pushes' the flow to the Hydra's heads. "If someone can create a flame, I can magnify that too."

***

Melinda May spends a moment kneeled against the wall, saturating about the last yard or so of her length of paracord with the oil from the flask. At the same time she's mentally apologizing to her friend in Israel, because she's going to have to ask him to brave that synagogue again. For the fourth time. Then she's hastily wiping her hands off on a spare rag and dropping it over the spilled oil to light it and the now oily paracord. "Not after, while. Cut and cauterise." She stands with her now flaming weapon in hand and launches it at the closest of the hydra-thing's heads.

***

"Speaking of…" The Fox slices a couple more cultists. Fortunately Harper and Zee have them quite under control, so he breaks away and runs toward the Hydra. As he does he grabs a charm of unworked iron and crushes it into glowing dust. Almost immediately a blue glow surrounds his blade. There's one head lunging for him, and another, and another. The first one is dodged, the second one… a lot more narrowly dodged and the third his blade comes down on, hard, the power field around it causing it to slice through… Though… there are four more heads… and he might be in a bit of trouble now.

***

Under control? Not really. Harper gets smacked good along the ribs with one of the cultists staff, who in turn gets a good shock to the boot. He screams and falls to the ground, all the while Harper stands to make retreat. This was way too many for her to handle. One hand disabled to hold her sides, the other squaring off in a battle of steele vs. steele; it put her on the defense and continually backed her into the center of the room, putting her close to the hydra's heads.. one of many..

***

Well, not exactly… Zee had been sending the flow of electricity to the Hydra but seeing The Fox head that direction manages to deflect it towards the cultists. With any luck, they're merely disabled and not killed.

Maintaining the spell for a few minutes longer, the young magician directs the last dregs of the electricity to Bluebirds opponent "Don't touch them, Bluebird. You'll get a nasty shock." Spellcasting might leave vulnerable, but at least she can cast from a distance…

***

Melinda May waits for the flaming end of her weighted rope weapon to wrap around one of the Hydra's necks, then yanks for all she's worth. With any luck, the paracord is strong enough to decapitate the hydra, and the flames on the cord itself will hopefully do the necessary cauterizing. She's really gambling here, as she's got only the one shot at it. But, in her concentration on doing this, she's letting one of the cultists get a little too close.

***

There is indeed a way to control the water flow in the room. Behind Harper there's an old panel that still controls the pumps. They've been long disused but… she could probably flood the room.

May's burning rope bites into the HYDRA's neck while Zee does a Storm imitation.

There's a problem though. The Fox produces his shotgun and cauterzies the head he just dealt with but then is bowled over by two more from behind while another snaps at young Harper. May is at the moment clear and there don't seem to be many cultists left. Of course…. now May has a burning rope…

***

Right when Harper was about to get pushed close enough for a really good snap of the shoulder; Zee saves her tookus by taking out the cultist with lightening. "Woo!" Harper shouts out, drawing her hands up, only to get a brief nip of the shoulder.. which thankfully, was padded enough but sadly ripped and caught within the Hydra's mouth. There was no time for witty banter, right when she was about to go to May's rescue, a culists grips her in a headlock in which she doubles over, grasping hold of his arm to flip him over to plant the electric rod right into his middle.

This puts her in eyes view of the panel, the rod quickly placed within her back as she leaves the three to do what they will. They were the experts. Her? Not yet. Upon arrival, she bangs twice upon the panel, popping it open with a gloved fist, a few wires taken to pull and hold as a switchblade was produced to splice and sever the protective coating.

***

Zee's spell finally peters out and she see's The Fox go down, hit by those Hydra heads. Seeing, Mays burning rope the young magi bites her bottom lip "Get out of the way…" she yells and then gestures to the rope:

~ semalF flugnE dnA nruB ehT ardyH ~

The flames leap from the rope and expand into what looks like a large, potentially huge, fireball that hits the Hydra fair in the face of one of it's heads. The effort takes it's toll on the young magician though and she staggers as she maintains the spell to power the fireball.

***

Melinda May keeps yanking at the hydra's head, but, well, paracord isn't exactly known for its cutting abilities. Thus, when she heard Zatanna's yell, she abandons her attempt to garrote the hydra into submission and rushes over to grab the fallen Kane by the scruff (figuratively) and try to pull him clear of the ensuing fireball while using a hastily brandished knife to swipe at any lizardy maw that tries to come near them.

***

Another head comes down at May and Kane. The man's glowing blade goes into its jaw and out the skull. Which, rather amazingly doesn't kill the head, just makes it scream and flop about. There's another shotgun fireball to cauterize the wound. That does kill it. "Here!" Jericho tosses May the glowing blade as he breaks open his weapon to reload it… with a pair of glowing purple crystals instead of shotshells.

Fire is now all over the beast as Zee amplifies and controlls it, but.. er… it might be getting out of hand.

Enter Harper. The water's already starting to rise and the Fox has noticed. "Should we be planning on a quick exit Bluebird?"

***

With the water rushing out due to Harper's splicing, she glances back at the display, wincing, thanking whatever god is on this hell of an earth for protecting her probably once in a lifetime teammates. "Yeah! Get out of here, I got the rest!" And boy she does.

With a few steps back, she takes a run towards the wall, leaping to latch herself upon one of the pipes so that she could climb upwards. This is something that's hard to do without her work harness, but she's done it the past two years without falling into the mulch.

She spider-monkies her way to the top, looping a leg over hand, keeping the other leg locked tight as she hangs upside down. The rod falls from its harness as she does this but is easily caught, the button flicked to flair the electricity to life as the last gun she held is produced in the same manner.

Her thumb slides along the dial, and as she hangs, arcs of electricity fires from both weapons as she glances towards the three with a wide grin.

That they couldn't see.

It would have been so cool…

"Fried lizard in three… two.."

Forget the one. She drops the baton and the gun…

Heres to hoping they make it out alive!

***

The spell is getting out of hand as Zee's energy starts to falter and the fire flares up, flames licking out at other parts of the room. Clenching her jaw and locking her knees so she doesn't falter again, Zee's not actually paying attention to what else is going on around her, her focus entirely on controlling the fire and confining it to the Hydra.

***

Melinda May tosses her own blade to her off-hand at the same time as catching Kane's blue-glowing sword, and promptly spins around to slice off another of the hydra's heads. And then when she realizes what Bluebird is aiming to do, she shoves at Kane. "Move! Now!" For her own part, she takes off at a run as well, though she angles to catch Zatanna in a modified football tackle so she can sort of carry the spell caster with her out of the range of whatever instanity the masked young woman is about to unleash. No, she's not entirely sure what Harper is about to do. But she recognizes the mannerisms. They're almost disturbingly Barton-esque.

***

The Fox is up. He doesn't need the encouragement. "Zee! Run! Bluebird, get out!" Not that the latter needs any encouragement. He whistles for the Elk to pick up the younger mage while he makes a grab for Bluebird. This place is about to get real hot…

And then it does, arcing and sparking and smoking as the beast screams.

***

Harper was content to watch the thing burn and spark for all she cared. That hydra beast was messing with her money! Yet.. just when she was getting a birds eye view, she was snatched up and with a flailed arm, she yippieee's right along with the three as they scoot and boot.

***

"Hnngghh" Zee goes flying in Mays football tackle, landing hard as they're carried out of the way. Winded, her top hat knocked to the side and her hair a wild mess, she slowly stands "Agent May, what…" and then there's an Elk trying to carry her off. "Fox… what…" She'll finish a sentence soon.

***

Melinda May lets the elk get Zee clear, Stomper is faster than she is. She make sure to scoop up the spell caster's tophat if it falls, but otherwise chases after the glowing blue elk as fast as she can. Mentally, she's cussing up a storm. She never would have thought it possible, but she just saw proof of it firsthand. There is actually a human on this planet who is STUPIDER and MORE RECKLESS than Barton. It almost boggles the mind to contemplate.

***

BOOM!

Well that's one way to get rid of a Hydra. There's nothing left in there now but charred meat. And a sparking electrical panel which will probably now have to be rebuilt. And what's left of that Hydra Cult. So apparently not all snake cults are related to HYDRA. Just Hydras. Yeah, that's not confusing at all.

"Everyone make it out?" Kane looks over to Harper. "Nice work by the way." Dangerous, but credit where it's due. "Where are May and Zee?" May damn well saved his life… and Zee did as well. Dumb seven headed lizards.

***

Harper made it out fine; save for the probably broken rib, half assed bitten shoulder, and frayed ski mask. "Thanks!" Harper chimes in, wriggling herself from whatever hold anyone has upon her to jump down onto the ground, her shoulder being worked out and a hiss of a breath is given. "Christ. Do you guys know that doing this line of work, you kinda rack up in the medical bills? I almost kind of see why people take to robbing banks and such. This is gettin' way too expensive for my tastes."

Stupid hydras. Crazy asian ladies, mages and foxes. She bets they have money and no mouths to feed.

***

Zee drops to the ground from the Elk "I'm here Fox." Then looks around for May as she straightens her hat. "Let me heal you, Bluebird. I can do that… save you a bit of money." then glances at the Fox "Or he can…" Zee kind of rests against Stomper, keeping herself upright as she talks.

***

Melinda May is THIS close to berating Bluebird for that stunt, but then the kid's words remind her that she's not working with fellow SHIELD agents here. So instead she offers Kane his sword back. "If you let this one patch you up, better brace yourself. I need to call back in to HQ." She moves a short distance away to pull out a small comm unit.

***

"Mine hurt." The Fox nods, referencing his healings. "Might be best to let Zee do it. Unless you're tapped out, Zee." He watches as may walks off a short distance. Hrm. Interesting. "But if you're hurt we'll take care of you."

***

Harper didn't mention the cage match she had nearly a week ago. She just now regained use of her other eye, and was able to move her shoulder and arm. That limp she hid? Gone now, but still, the bruises on her face would probably be gone and she'd not have to suffer with foul looks for wearing too much makeup on the job. "Okay.." Yeah, she wasn't going anywhere near Fox. He can keep that mess to his self. "But if she's tapped out, I think I'll deal with the clinic."

***

"I have a bit more to give" Zee speaks quietly and moves towards Bluebird "It will just take a few minutes longer than usual. And then I'll need to rest." Holding her hands, palm out towards the woman, Zee concentrates resting her back against that glowing elk. Harper will feel the energy flow through her body, healing slowly and carefully.

***

Melinda May speaks quietly with someone over the comm for a few moments before returning to where the others are. Thankfully, despite taking up a ridiculous amount of space in these tunnels, Stomper is useful as his blue glow is an excellent gentle light source. Red would be better for preserving their eyesight, but, well. She looks from mage to druid to vigilante, and gleans that the current conversation is still on Bluebird's injuries, as minor as they seem to be comparatively.

***

Stomper also seems to have taken a liking to May, the big glowing elk following her around whenever Kane isn't actively directing him. "Go ahead then." The Fox steps back to watch, knowing it wouldn't be nearly so pleasent with him.

***

Harper takes the healing like a champ. Really, there's only one way to take the healing when you can barely feel the pain of flesh being knit back together. May's return to the group gains her an eye, she at least knows Zee, Creepy McDouchebag, but she doesn't know the lady.

"So." She mutters beneath her mask, her hand lifting to scratch her cheek above the suface. "Who's she."

***

As Stomper moves off after May, Zee stands up straight still concentrating on the healing of Bluebird "That should do it. Does that feel better?" and glances back to May in consternation… she's not entirely sure how to introduce the Agent and instead turns attention to the Fox, "Next time you invite me out, I choose the location o.k, Fox?"

***

Melinda May pauses about halfway back to the others, gives Stomper a hard stare, then shrugs and walks the rest of the way back. "Zatara, you going to need a ride back?" Apparently she isn't really in the mood for pleasantries and introductions. No offense, Bluebird.

***

"Sounds good to me." The Fox says to Zee and gives Harper a nod as he goes to recover his elk. Stop that, silly elk. "Always a pleasure Bluebird. May." He nods and starts to slowly canter on out.

***

Dissed! That's alright. Harper is good. She's not going to cry. Even though her name was dropped anyways, Harper gives a little bit of a shrug towards Zee. "I feel good, actually. Thanks."

She starts to walk along now, searching for a set of ladders that would lead her topside. "That's fine. Don't ask me for a lift. I'm only going into the concrete jungle a coupl'a miles away.. -MILES-.." Yeah, Harper is going to complain to herself the entire way home.

***

"Obviously not, May" Zee watches The Fox ride away. "I'd offer to telport us both out, but I don't think I've enough in the tank and well… my teleport can be a bit wonky at the best of time." Zee starts to walk, looking for a way out herself.

***

Melinda May rolls her eyes and turns to follow Zatanna, to make sure the spell caster makes it out of the sewers safely. The masked kid seemed pretty self sufficient, and Stomper and his pet human are on their own.

***

"Zee?" The Fox calls back turning in his saddle. "You not going with May? I can give you a ride if you need it." The druid had simply assumed Zee would accept the flight back.

***

Harper is.. pretty much gone. She found her way out quickly and quietly.

***

That just proves how tired she is and Zee looks at May in confusion. "Sorry, didn't realise that's what you meant. I just need somewhere to rest up a bit before I head back to Titan base." Because no one should know where that is… and getting to Shadowcrest, requires magic. "It's fine Fox. I'll go with May."

***

Melinda May nods to Zee. "I can at least get you to a safehouse." No, not a SHIELD safehouse. She'll call in a favor with Oracle if Zatanna agrees, and it'd be closer than returning to NYC right now anyway.
