Sometimes, a wise man once said, you get what's coming around. And sometimes you are what's coming around. Most of the time Kane Reynard is the latter. Today though trouble has come to find him in the form of… er, well actually he's not sure how many Ninja. He's been at this for about five minutes which is an eternity in a fight, staying ahead of the black suited men with the swords and the throwing blades and the weighted ropes, turning to fight them when cut off or surrounded. There's… a dozen? Two.

The Fox parkours off a rooftop to a lower one, rolls and brings his blade and brings his tonfa to bear once more, spinning and whirling them, warding off blows from his left and from behind before lashing out. Another down, red, reptilian eyes glaring up sightlessly at him, same as all the other's he's struck down today. This is getting out of hand. If he could just get a minute to reach for one of his charms…

***

Kane doesn't get a minute. He gets a bat. Not the wooden or aluminium, but the cape and cowled sort as the small, shadowed body comes barelling into the group from the side. She knocks one aside and the spinning flare of her cape at least gets them to lean back, giving the Fox a moment to breathe. She turns, giving them her profile and putting her within reach of Kane. Her arm stretches out as she does so, fingers closing around weighted rope at his waist, fingers deftly working it free and pulling it loose as she reverses her turn on that same axis, this time bringing the rope to play to try to get even more breathing room.

Silent as usual, the featureless-masked Batgirl doesn't spare a 'hi' or even a glance as she moves into the fight.

***

It's a bit of shock to have someone pulling at the rope wrapped around his waist, but it is placed there for ease of access so it's not too hard to get off. The Fox flips his grip on the left tonfa to hook a sword and pull it out of the way in time for the ninja wielding it to get a strike to the face from the rope. Then he's breifly slinging the right baton and dipping into his satchel for charms. He comes back with two. One of them goes to Cass, a bolt of blue light arcing over to her, surrounding her fists, feet and the rope with a nimbus of charged energy that lends more power to her strikes. The other goes to him, his movements suddenly becoming more graceful and fluid. He flips off an aircon unit and whips his second baton back out right across a ninja's face. The hood flies off to reveal an inhuman, fanged, reptilian head. Nope. Not normal.

There's… a lot of them and now their attention is split. They're fast and lithe, striking with blade and fist at the elusive little black bat.

***

Batgirl knows that whatever it is, the Fox is looking to help her and so she doesn't try to move out of the way of the charm. Not that she knows what it does, even when it lights up her fists. She doesn't play videogames and she's not familiar with Kane's abilities and so the first time she hits one of the reptilian ninja as she maneuvers in close, tying up their blade with the rope, ribs crunch under her blow, sending the creature flying backwards.

This gets a startled pause from Cassandra, always so careful about exactly how hard she hits people, which leaves her open for that split second for a blade to get through. It opens up her costume, laying open flesh along her side as she twiststumbles out of the way.

***

Kane's tonfa are thick oak, walnet or maple. Hardwoods. He carves them out of the best of whatever he can get. They're time conumsing to make, but ultimately replaceable, as demonstrated as he hurls one at the head of the ninja that just hit Cass. He'll probably figure out later why she hesitated… and feel bad about it. Right now he's just focused on surviving and frankly they have better chances with the two of them. Also Cass is basically the only nice Bat. So there's that.

Breathe in the irony.

In a moment the tonfa is replaced by a kama and the Fox is spinning back, giving ground in the face of superior numbers. There's fewer now since Cass made their entrence but between the two of them they're still outnumbered ten to one.

***

Batgirl doesn't normally let surprise take her like that, and so she's not surprised when the ninja take advantage of it. Kane buys her a moment, and that's all she needs to use one end of the weighted chain to grab the ninja that the Fox just tonfa'ed to the face and yank him in to kick him in the face. The other end catches another and she yanks him over to catch him with a roundhouse to the face. She leaves the chain behind now, moving into the sea of ninja, catching a blade on crossed forearms before laying about with feet and knees and elbows. And avoiding using her fists. The numbers don't give her pause, nor the long, bleeding cut visible where her costume is torn open.

***

Both Tonfa and Kama are perfect for the Fox's preferred method of fighting: up close and personal, controlling his opponent's limbs and weapons with his own. He hooks one into Batgirl's path, another into one of his compatiot's paths. The latter recieves a fatal stab wound before said compatriot is releived of his weapon, then the burden of consciousness. There's ringing steel and a sudden grunt as a blade slips past his guard and opens up his right arm. That assailant too is put down.

Cass herself suddenly is confronted by the joning of the group who also happens to be a shugenja. Or in non-oriental terms, a mage. Fortunately, a slow one. He whips a hand out and spins back, gathering up energy into a big glowing ball that he clearly intends to throw.

***

Slow is not something you want to be around Batgirl. She's got several on her, which makes going straight for the shugenja difficult. One gets an elbow to the side of the head, twisting around while catching the other on her. She tumbles, pulling the ninja with her and her feet launch him in a path straight for the mage gathering up his energy. Her hand slaps the ground and pushes, moving her laterally out of the direction of 'fire' as she punches the knee of another ninja. She pulls it this time, but with the glowing aura it still shatters the knee.

OK. Note to self. Pull more.

***

With the charm in, the Fox is a lot quicker. Not fast as a striking snake perhaps, but the differnece in speed is enough that he actually manages to slip between three and strike out in a whirl. All three are down before they can react. His baton gets kicked from his hand. The Kama hooks the offending leg and his sword finishes the job as it sweeps out from the back scabbard. This is why he carries so many weapons. He looks about for more opponents but the only ones left are currently fleeing Batgirl. Four or five of them. Scattered across the rooftop are fully two dozen, and more from chasing the druid. But it seems to be over, at least for the moment.

Kane takes a moment to catch his breath, watching to see what Cassandra will do.

***

Batgirl's gloved hand reaches to her belt and flicks a tracer after the closest fleeing ninja, but doesn't chase after. In fact, she stands there and sways on her feet, just a bit. The pale gold of her skin is hard to see in shadow and covered in blood, and the black of her costume hides the blood even better.

She takes a step over to one of the fallen, dropping down to a crouch that's slightly stiff only to keen eyes, pulling the hood free to get a good look at them. Her head turns, looking over to him with a confused tilt of her head.

***

"Dragon-bloods." Is all Kane says. He's gathered by this point that words aren't the best way to communicate with Batgirl. There's a moment while he binds up the long cut on his arm so that he's no longer dripping blood… well, mostly, anyway, and then proceeds to the downed Shugenja and takes his hood off, cutting away the costume a bit. There's a tattoo on the right shoulder. One of a long serpent gliding through the sea. He takes out a crystal from his belt and taps it once, causing it to glow.

***

Batgirl rises back up to her feet, though rather slowly than she normally would while letting her cape fall forward about her and hiding her in that dark fall from neck to ankles. A few drops of blood spatter against the roof beneath their feet.

"Here.. for you?" The darkly clad girl asks in the slightly broken, flat tone she always seems to have.

***

Kane nods in a slow kind of way. Yes and no. He shifts and picks through one's belt, looking for something he suspects he'll find… ah there it is. A photo. One of him, Misfit and Babs fighting in the clocktower the night the ninja came to get her. Clearly, someone's upset, even if they take a long time to express it. He hands the photo over to Cassandra by way of explanation before fishing a piece of chalk out of his pack. "Hold still." Is all he says before bending down to start drawing on the ground around the woman.

***

Batgirl's arm emerges to take the photo. Her head cocks to the side a bit and she looks back to him. "You… know her?" Barbara tends to be extra secretive. Certainly more than Cassandra herself.

When Kane tells her to hold still, she looks down at him rather curiously to watch what he's doing. His body language doesn't bespeak any sort of ill intent and so she does as she was instructed. Trusting is a bit easier when you can tell these types of things, but it may make her seem overly so.

***

Kane's nod is much more affirmative this time. He does not add that he also knows that Barbara is Oracle. That seems like the kind of thing she might not want out there. The circle is completed and the Fox stands. "This'll hurt. Going to close that cut." And then he focuses, willing the earth to close Batgirl's wounds. Well actually accellerating her natural healing but he doesn't know that.

He's so getting kicked for this.

***

Batgirl has at least managed to figure out that Kane does… things that people can't normally do. And having been forwarned, she stands there, still and silent.

He might actually wonder if it actually worked, as she doesn't yell, or hiss, or even twitch. Just stands. Very still. Even as the pain blazes up her side to stop the bleeding.

Oddly, no kicking.

***

The no kicking part is kind of a relief honestly. She can kick quite hard and most people react badly to this even having been warned. When it's done he nods again and wipes his blade clean on one of the ninja. "How?" He gestures over to the downed ninja. As in, how did you find me? Also perhaps, why. He's not expecting an answer really. Well, not a verbal one.

***

The picture that Kane handed her is tucked away. After the pain fades, she lifts an arm, cape spilling back to inspect the injury. She should take some care to make sure it doesn't reopen, but it'll do the job. She gives him a slight nod of thanks, though he might not get that's what it is, given the lack of words go to with.

His question gets an easy shrug, the cape spilling back into place. "Saw you. On patrol." She doesn't just keep to one portion of the city, and she happened to spot the battle.

***

Ah. How fortunate. The Fox doesn't get into that kind of trouble often but clearly someone wished to make a point to the insolent vulpine creature. "Thanks." He says and seems to mean it. He finishes up searching the jonin, convinced that the others won't have anything useful and then moves a few steps away from the fallen ninja. He seems to think for a moment and then pulls a round, red crystal shaped like a multifaceted lense from his pouch and tosses it to Batgirl. Lacking the ability to naturally see unusual energies, this is generally how he does it. And if she patrols all that much, or is reported to the Dragon… she may need it. He mimes looking through it, to instruct her in it's use. She may not be able to interpet the auras and odd colors, but the fact that theyre there will at least tell her she's dealing with something unusual.

***

Batgirl snags the crystal out of the air, and after a pause she looks through it at him and the ninjas arrayed around his feet. While she may not know what they mean, she has a much better ability to figure out visual cues than a lot of others. Moving are best, but visual works.

***

The Fox's own person and the crystals and charms he uses light up with unusual energies. It's an odd blue-green color. If she sweeps her gaze around certain parts of the city light up. Ley lines. Nexuses. Places of power. Unusual people and things. Other parts seem to grey out, as if dead. The parts of the city where there are no magic. The Narrows are one such place.

"Keep it. Might need it."

***

Batgirl closes her hand around it, head tilting to the side a bit as she looks back at him. Seeing him and his charms lit up gives her a pretty good idea of what it's showing her. She should show it to Babs. Maybe between her and Batman they could add it to the lenses their costumes use.

The diminuitive woman nods at him then. "You… alright?" Even if she can get a pretty good idea of his health, she's learned that people like to be asked the question.

***

Kane glances down at his right arm. Long, shallow cut. Painful, though. He nods. "I'll take care of it when I'm clear." Getting healed hurts as much for him as it does anyone else. Sometimes he just lets things take their course. This he'll probably have to deal with. He glances out from the way he thinks she came and then back to Batgirl and then out again. Is she going to keep patrolling or…?

***

Batgirl gives a slight nod, picking up on his question and he can almost hear the 'why wouldn't I' that goes with the set of her shoulders and tilt of her head. Dawn is a long way off. She'll at least try not to reopen the wound from tonight, but that's hardly a reason for her not to patrol. People are out there. In trouble. Dying.

***

The Fox chuckles dryly and pulls another charm out. Carved animal bone. Almost like a small whitle. He brings it up to his lips and blows, the shrill note causing it to glow and disintigrate into dust. Then an elk strides out of nowhere and he climbs on, glancing toward the Narrows. There's no magic there, as she just saw. It's a dead zone, which is part of why it's so awful. And paradoxically, sometimes that means monsters like to hide there. So that's where he's headed next.

***

Batgirl pulls out her swingline. She's going to swing by the clocktower and get her costume stitched up, and some of the blood cleaned up before it starts chafing. Criminals tend to get Ideas when they can see you've been hurt. "Be.. careful." She advises him before thumbing the button and shooting off the grapnel line.

***

"You too." The Fox nods, then he's off. Glowing elks actually dim surprisingly quickly when they get further away. Which is probably why most people don't spot him.

Also because no one ever looks up for seome reason.
