About ten minutes after CHAOS.

***

Ten minutes ago Misfit wrapped up putting a bow on four robbers that were trying to break into a midtown jewelry store in a late Gotham Evening. The alarm and dispatch displayed in her goggles and she was able to get there much faster than the cops. By the time they arrived it was a bunch of broken displays, disarmed mooks, and ziptied up to each other.

Present finds her on a nearby roof watching the activity over yonder as the cops shove the perps into a car. "Ah yessss dark vengeancing…" Charlie mutters.

***

"I don't think 'vengeancing' is a word," Robin comments from close behind. He noticed the fight, watched as Charlie wrapped things up, and then followed her up here. Not even noticed. He's sneaky that way. "Nice work, though."

***

Be damned if Charlie doesn't jump a little bit there when the talking from Robin behind her. Luckily she recognizes his voice. She rubs the back of her neck right below her cowl and turns around to face him with a grin. "I'm pretty sure if I keep this up they will add it to the dictionary soon. Like Doh or YOLO or something… you know when it becomes supes popular." she grins "Thank you."

***

Robin does not twitch a muscle at her jump, even if he is slightly amused. He's always suspected that Bruce does that sort of thing because he finds it funny. "I'm pretty sure there's a word for it already," he notes. "'Avenging'." He considers for a moment. "Though I suppose it doesn't have quite the right ring to it."

***

Charlie cocks her head squinting behind her goggles like she is trying to get a feel for Avenging. "Yeah it doesn't ring right.. also I think that Avengers group is on that. Anyhow it is my battle cry.. Dark Vengeance!" she pauses "You don't like it?"

***

"Well, the verb form of 'vengeance' is 'avenge'," Robin says with a shrug. "As for 'Dark Vengeance', to be honest it kinda sounds like supervillains ganging up on the heroes who took them down before. Like, you know, the Joker and Luthor team up to take down Batman and Superman." He pauses. "Pretty sure Luthor's not dumb enough to team up with the Joker, in general, but the point remains. For whom are you taking vengeance?"

***

That gets a blink and then another squint. "I… you know." she pauses and smiles a touch sad. "My mom and little sister I guess .. it is why I started this… but… " a pause again "I figured I needed a call sign…. so I went with it. I've been using it for months though.. not sure I should change it up now…"

***

"Stick with what you got, I guess," Robin says. "I just hit them. Usually before they know I'm there, if I can manage it. It tends to speak loud enough for all concerned." A wry smile. "Announcing yourself to thugs in Gotham isn't generally the best way to go… but, to be fair, you can teleport, so it's less a problem for you than most of us."

***

Misfit nods "It is kind of my schtick… they pretty much hear about Dark Vengeancing right before I kick the first one in the back of the head…" she trails off. "Then again you are a ninja badass Robin… I wish I was half as sneaky as you."

***

Robin waves a hand. "There are way sneakier than me. Batman, Catwoman, actual ninjas…" He flops back against the chimney, settling himself down on the cold roof. "Man, we need, like, a Bat-coffee shop. It sucks to hang out on rooftops at the beginning of March."

***

Misfit grins "I could pop somewhere and get us some coffee if you want…" she looks around then eye flicks up to check the 911 and dispatch feeds, then back to focusing on you. "I actually got to sort of meet Batman. Kind of. I mean he let me help out with the Valentines day massacre. I totally took down Calendar man with this lady that screams really loud… I hope I did a good job." hey you are the one who mentioned Batman.

***

"Black Canary?" Robin suggests. She's the one who does most of the screaming around Gotham, anyway. Unless the Silver Banshee is visiting town. "Cool that you got to meet him. He's…" Robin pauses, fishing for the right word. "Taciturn." Yes. That'll suffice. "Good job with Calendar Man, too."

***

Misfit another squint from the girl at the Taciturn, she will have to look that up later. "I guess so… she wasn't much older than I am though." which is a bit unusual really. "He wasn't like Harley.. he went down pretty easy with a punch. The real problem was that KGBeast guy who was all half robot and shooting everyone…" oh she led with Calendar MAn and KGBeast was there??

***

Robin is used to Charlie putting some of these things out of order. After all, she was dealing with Calendar Man — others handled KGBeast. "Not sure then," Robin says with a shrug. "Canary's… maybe ten years older than me." And he and Charlie are pretty much the same age, right? Canary's actually a few years older than that, but if he suggested she was her actual age and it got back to her, she might be peeved. Women, right? "Harley's got endurance because she's put up with Joker being… well… an abusive jerk. Calendar Man is just a guy in a costume. He doesn't even do much to reinforce his costumes."

***

Misfit considers "Well yeah…. I mean she wasn’t like ancient right." and yes she and Robin are about the same age, though Charlie often acts younger. Also she helped with Beast, it is just out of order entirely there. Mostly she seems prouder about CalendarMan and not the russian. "I almost got Harley but the doctors weren't doctors.. swear.." she just sighs "I'll get her last time… though I am staying way back from Joker. He gassed me .. it was intensely bad…" she isn't inoculated by Bruce to the gas after all. But she is still here breathing. "I had the giggles and my face hurt for a couple days…."

***

"The Joker is always intensely bad," Robin replies. "I've dealt with him more than once. If you have the choice, you stay away from Joker. Let Batman handle him. Unless somebody else is in immediate danger." He shrugs. "It's just the best policy, you know? Harley's better. She's crazy and she'll hurt you, but she's more… predictable. And less randomly homicidal."

***

Misfit nods "I mean she has … Harley seems to have some super strength by the by.. she isn't just durable." she frowns "But Joker.. damn. My mistake was getting in close though.. Oracle gave me a pretty good lecture on tactics when I got out of that one alive. May didn't get him either that time either… she tried really hard though. Also that weird guy in the armored suit… dumpsterknight." she grins a touch. "Oh hey are you coming with us to Tokyo?"

***

"I don't know," says Tim. "Oracle told me about it, but the plans seem kind of vague so far. It depends on when, and whether I can find an excuse not to be at school when it happens." He shrugs. "Spring break would be a good excuse, but… well, we'll have to see."

***

Misfit nods "Man I still don’t know how you manage school.. I barely manage to get enough sleep with all the patrols and crime fighting between Gotham and the Titans… you must have bat-time-management skills." she grins "I hope you come.. maybe I should tell Vorpal we should time it for spring break then…"

***

"I manage school because I have to," Robin replies. "Last semester I tried to do too much and almost made myself crazy. School, job, Robin, Titans, girlfriend." A grimace. "Two of those aren't an issue anymore, anyway. But I can't give up school. I'm expected to be something other than Robin — and since my dad doesn't know about my night life, I need to be able to keep up with my day life, too."

***

Misfit nods "That makes sense…and I remember" she really does remember you telling her. "I just am complimenting your time management skills Robin. Ninja Time Management." she cocks her head "So uh…" she hesitates "Why do you think … that Fox guy is all good with the Batman but I still haven't even got to say hi to him?" it has been killing her, she can't ask Oracle but… well Robin is a Titan too… and he knows Batman so well like better than anyone.

***

Robin shakes his head at this. "No idea," he says. "I still can't quite believe that Batman gave the Fox his blessing. Such as it is." He grimaces. "At a guess, he's seen Fox in action, understands the need for what he does. And you're young. When I became Robin, Batman had decided he shouldn't bring any more young people on as Robin, and I figured out who he was and started campaigning for Nightwing to become Robin again. I suppose the fact that you're younger could have something to do with it, because you wouldn't know it to watch him but he's got a serious sense of guilt."

***

Misfit mutters "It's just a damn good thing I swore to Oracle I wouldn't bounce into people's home bases after I did that too her and the clocktower…" which actually worked out great cause well now she has a family with Babs and a place to live that isn't a burnt down apartment building her mom died in. Man orphans. "I'm an adult though… not that young… I mean I decided to do this and just because he accepts the dumb Fox and all and won't talk to me doesn't mean I'm giving it up anytime ever."

***

"A lot of us respect your choices and support you," Robin says. "And clearly you're doing fine around here. It would be a non-issue in any other city. Fact is, you probably need to accept that he's not going to give you his support until he's ready. Which may be never. You know how many times he's told me to tell Spoiler to quit?"

***

Charlie thinks about that there as she chews on it all. "I.. you are right." she sighs, and probably needed to hear this from you and not someone else. "It just bites me that he did for Fox but .. yah.." she smiles softly "Thanks…" for the support probably. Because you are right. Like usual. "How many times?"

***

"I lost count," says Robin. "He doesn't support her because he doesn't trust her reasons for doing it, doesn't believe she's trained sufficiently for the job, and, of course, there's the fact that her dad's a criminal." He shrugs. "And now, of course, she's temporarily retired, so I guess he's got his wish."

***

Charlie shakes her head "Sounds like reasons that could be applied to me too I guess.. well except the criminal dad." she pauses "Though who knows.. I don’t know my dad my mom wouldn’t ever talk about my dad…. he might be like a super criminal or something… not that Batman would know." she frowns "Maybe she will do it again… why was she doing it?"

***

"Because her dad's a criminal," replies Robin. "She doesn't like what he does, so she put on her costume to get in his way." He utters a sigh, shaking his head. "That bastard," he adds with dry frustration. "She might," he adds, "but she's got some important things to do herself right now."

***

Charlie isn't in the loop on the Spoiler sitch "Well I bet you will be there to help her if she gets back into this world. Also I can see why that might drive someone to do it. Redemption not Vengeance right." she nods to Robin. "Something drives all of us…. what drives you?"

***

Robin tends not to go into too much detail when it comes to Spoiler. It's too easy to figure out who she is given a little detail on her life. The name of her father, even his codename, will do the job. The Cluemaster has only one daughter. "Of course I'll be there to help her," he says. "As for why I do this? Batman needed me."

***

Misfit nods and shifts to plop down by you and studies you sidelong there "Yeah I get that.. I thought that the city needed a real Batgirl.." she sounds sheepish, cause she likes Batgirl having gotten to know her better. Charlie may have been obsessed with the original batgirl, which is ironic since she doesn't know Babs is that batgirl yet.

***

"Batgirl can be pretty quiet herself, but she's very good at what she does," says Robin. He draws one knee up to his chest and props his chin on it. "I figured out who he was shortly after the second Robin was murdered, though. And I realized that Batman was getting reckless and violent without a Robin to work with him. Since Nightwing wasn't going to put on the short pants again, it kind of fell to me."

***

Right. Misfit looks curious to Robin. "And Gotham needs Batman.. to be Batman. To be Batman he has to be unassailable and in control of everything he does.. not violent and reckless…" she studies her friend. "I get it… still that is amazing detective work…"

***

Robin shrugs. Yeah, he's a good detective. Dick had the acrobatic skills. Jason had a ton of attitude. But Tim is the successor to the best detective in the world. "Once I figured out who Nightwing was, it wasn't hard," he says.

***

Right and Charlie hasn't even figured out that Oracle is the original Batgirl. So sad. But then she hasn't claimed to be an amazing detective. "Right.. once I figured out who Nightwing was it wasn't hard…" she parrots back and then grins at you. "You are way to modest man…"

***

Robin smiles wryly. "Charlie, if you knew what I knew about Nightwing back when I figured all this out, you probably wouldn't have much trouble putting two and two together. If there's somebody in town who's one of four people in the world who can do something, chances are if you see somebody do that thing, it's that person."

***

Misfit considers that for a long moment "Hey good point.. I hadn't really thought about it like that though… which says something in itself." she scrunches her nose up cutely "I should totes probably stick to my magic lessons with Fenris…." oh right like that isn't disturbing.

***

"The trick to being a decent detective is to pay attention to the details, even the little things. They might be important." Robin slowly pulls himself to his feet. "Look, totally stick to your magic lessons… but if you want to learn more of the detective stuff, let me know. I can try to help you out."

***

Misfit leans and kips up to her feet, dusting her armor off now as she makes sure she isn't carrying a small snowdrift on her butt. "I would definitely like lessons in being a better crime fighter from you for sure!"

***

Robin nods. "Good enough. We'll get together, I'll see what I can turn up to help you. For now…" He glances westward. "I think I need to go check in on a couple of people, make sure they're not getting themselves into trouble. I'll see you later, alright?"

***

The young woman snaps off a smart salute then grins and nods "Sounds like a plan.. I should probably get myself back on patrol…. though I may bounce to the Tower and get some hot chocolate before coming back out." Charlie hesitates then nods "Good luck and see you later Robin."

***

"Have a good night, Charlie. Stay safe." His grappler points toward a high building, and then he's gone, zipping along on the high strength batcable.
