Now that Misfit has accepted the responsibility of helping keep watch over the Earth's magic there's… well it's not like it's more important to teach her how to use her own. It was always important to Fenris. But the order of the lessons has been revised a bit. There've been a few globe hopping lessons in between to make sure Charlie has a good hold on how to use her Ley Pendulum to get around if she ever needs to. That was a while ago. Now Fenris is back at his house, adjusting a few things on his forge and preparing to make a few talismans to hold life Energy since he gets the feeling some of his friends, both Primal Force and not, will get banged up from time to time and he may not always be able to personally heal them.

***

Charlie practices her silent teleportations, bouncing >pinkurple> into the Brooklyn place. Aiming for behind, up against wall, downwind. She isn't sure she can ever get the drop on him if he can hear her heartbeat or something but she is giving it the college try right?

***

Fenris is really focused… and when he looks up she's actually only a foot or so from him. Easily within arm's reach. The Old Wolf smiles. "That's very good Charlie." He looks over his shoulder. "Very good indeed. I can see you've been working on that. What brings you by?" On the forge's surface are several stones cut into regular polyhedral shapes. He's inscribing runes on the surfaces of each.

***

The young woman bumps aganst the Old Wolf as she peers around him at what he is working on. "Wait.. how does one forge stones…" she peers at the runes being carved "Or is this just the carving step… or is this like a metaphorical forge.." Charlie trails off "Wanted to see you."

***

Fenris smiles. "Actual forges are bulky. This is enchanted to serve several purposes." Getting hot is one of them and forge sounds better than 'multipurpose enchanting table.' "Mmmm, well you have found me. You know you're welcome to visit any time." The God-Wolf doesn't have quite the same hangups about knocking that a lot of people do. Comes of being a wolf.

***

Charlie crouches down studying the forge. You can tell she is trying the trick with focusing her sight to see magic in motion. There is a lot of concentration then she ooohs. "Okay so … right… " she straightens "This has a lot of magic woven into it.."

***

"Yes. Quite a bit. And because I didn't want to shatter the stone when I made it, I had to do it slowly. Took me a few weeks of consistent work." Sometimes it doesn't matter how much power you can sling if what you're slinging it into can't take it. "Good, though. You're able to see it."

Fenris inscribes one last rune with what looks like a dental pick and sets his tools and the stones down. "Would you care to try?"

***

The young woman perks up at the idea. She considers the tool you set down then you. "Sure. I mean I want to learn how to make enchantments and not just chaospunch people into being newts…soooo yes definitely." she grins. "Where do we start?"

***

"Pick up the pick. First thing is to show you how to trickle magic into it without breaking it. And if it does break, don't worry. I have more." Fenris grins and waits for Charlie to pick up the inscribing tool. "Getting magic into it shouldn't be a problem for you. Controlling the flow may be. Just takes practice." Once she has it he reaches out to touch it himself and flows a bit of his own magic into it so she can feel how it's supposed to feel.

***

Charlie still has the sight up, it may be slightly ruby tingued and fueled by chaos but she is not just feeling what you are doing but also watching the magic flow. "Huh ok… and yes… throttle seems to be the main problem." throttle hah. She carefully holds the carving pick and lifts it to study it turning it in her hand before focusing on the part touching herself, holding it, and tries to gentle ease a trickle of her brand of magic into it.

***

It's easy. The pick is made of a silver-steel alloy that the ancients called 'flowsteel.' It's a pretty useless metal, actually, unless one happens to know magic. In which case it's all kinds of useful for applications like this. Fenris nods as he senses Charlies magic flow into it and offers her one of the stones with his free hand. "That's it. Now picture the stone soft as clay and just… write." He'd tell her what to write. For what he's doing it's pretty specific, but he wants to see what happens if he just lets her magic take it's course.

***

Well right now Charlie is holding two magical flows, one for her sight, and one into the carving tool. "Right…. just write…" she carefully takes the offered stone, and sets it onto the enchanting table. The tip of her tongue cutely pokes out of the corner of her mouth as she adds the third task of envisioning stone soft as clay and tries to write. Her attention is very split between all three spells and the writing, well it just sort of flows out of her.

***

Fenris takes his hand off the pen. Whatever Charlie is writing now is very directed by the chaos magic within her and, really, ought to be fairly enlightening… if it makes any sense to begin with. He watches it take shape, murmuring encouragement as the stylus flows over the facets on the stone one after the other.

***

Charlie's nostrils flare as she breaths in a little faster. The magic flows into the stone, her free hand turning it as the facets soak up the carvings now. She doesn't blow the stone up outright or thankfully the forge. Whatever is happening though is giving her a swift and merciless headache, like thinking to hard about certain topics does.

***

Fenris can see the flow of magic starting to reach levels that might possibly be dangerous. He's not particularly worried about the house or himself, but Charlie blowing up or dimensionally teleporting on accident… that'd be bad. The Old Wolf reaches over to grab her arm and siphon off some of that excess magic. "Easy… easy. You control it, it doesn't control you." He murmurs.

***

Charlie flinches a little at the grab, and the siphon well it does burn with Ruby Fire and Chaos.

Still it was well timed, and after one more carving the young woman stops completely and blinks setting down the carving pick. "Ugn." she intones wittily.

***

Fenris shuts his eyes and grits his teeth ever so slightly as the magic burns against his own primal power. He channels it out into the air and land around them, acting as a grounding rod. After a moment he opens his eyes. "You okay?" He first looks up to Charlie and then glances down to see what it is she's made.

***

Charlie pauses looking down at the stone sitting on the enchanting table. She only has the sight still up giving her some mild eye strain. "Well.. it's magic…" she notes. It is her magic, it glows with crimson chaos energy. "Not sure.. though?"

That little stone with the strange symbols that seem random, chaotic even, practically seethes there on the table with skewed probability.

***

Fenris looks a bit closer and chuckles. "Aaaah. Do you know what a monkey's paw is, Charlie? This is a bad luck charm." And a fairly well made one if… a little on the weak side. Which is good. If it were too strong he'd have to shatter it. Bad luck on that scale is highly destructive. "Interesting that you could make that without any kind of training." It's just what her magic wanted to make.

"How are you feeling?"

***

No training. Right. She rubs her temple and stares down at it. "Huh.. don't know what a monkey's paw is no.. I mean heard the term but never looked it up…" Charlie pauses "Is it safe for me to touch.. and a bit of a headache Fenris."

***

Fenris still has a hand on Charlie's arm and it briefly glows green as he uses his own magic to rebalance hers. "There you go. And yes it should be safe for you. If it's not we'll simply disenchant it, but really the carving is almost perfect."

***

She carefully reaches down and picks it up then looks it over. "Okay.. so um… what do I do with it. I mean you say it is a bad luck charm but I don't want bad luck…"

***

"Charge it with your magic to make it work. Carefully. It's… not going to take much. Probably only enough to make someone have a minor misfortune. That's not the enchantment's fault, it's the material. I was making lesser health talismans, so I didn't need them to hold much. Polished granite won't take a whole lot of magic before shattering." Fenris smiles. "And given what i saw, you should be able to charge it without breaking it."

***

Charlie nods turning it over in her hand "Right.. and then what… throw it at them or slip it in their pocket or what…?"

***

"Or leave it in their sock drawer. Something like that." Fenris grins. "The way you do it will influence the bad luck." He straightens up. "Anyway, would you like something to eat?" He indicates the kitchen. "I'm going to get a BLT." Bacon. One of the modern age's best inventions. And magic in it's own righ.

***

Charlie grins "I'd love a BLT…" she moves to head to the kitchen with her unluck stone.
