The X-Men are less a team and more a group of people that believe. They believe in the dream of Charles Xavier. That mutant and humans can live together, in harmony. As to how to go about achieving that end? Well, the answers are as diverse as the followers themselves. Many of those who claim the title 'X-Men' have attended Xavier's Institute as children or teenagers, but not all.

Those who are the heroic vigilante group working out of a secret base several miles from the school itself are affectionately (or sometimes sarcastically) called the Gold Team. While their identities are kept secret from the public, their heroic personae can be well-known. They are outspoken fighters for mutant rights and are known to swoop in to a situation to help save the day and then swoop back out just as quickly.

Others feel that a less public approach is the answer, sabotaging anti-mutant plans by hook and by crook. This is the "Blue" Team. This is not a "Death Squad", and like all followers of Xavier they try to avoid killing. But there are a lot of actions of a more clandestine nature that don't involve killing. These X-Men take steps to ensure that not only are their private identities kept secret, but their 'heroic' ones as well.

A recent addition is that of a "Red" team. Started by alumni of Xavier's Institute, these X-Men live openly as mutants among the people of New York. Choosing not to live in "M-Town" but mixing with the general population, da Costa International (DCI) underwrites the team by making use of their talents to foot the cost of supporting them. These heroes public identities are known in addition to their heroic personae.

The SR-73 "Black Bird" : Acquisition of this advanced piece of machinery is a mystery to most of the X-Men (if not all except for Xavier himself) It is modeled after the SR-71 Lockheed with the following differences; increased crew capacity (9) : 7 seats (5 are in the cockpit area, 2 are below near the hatch along with the 2 standing harnesses) VTOL capabilities, though not 'stealth' capable to the eye it is highly capable of hiding from radar and surveillance equipment, pressurized cabin. It comes with expected high-tech sensory systems as well including state of the art radar. There are no on board weapon systems on this vessel.
*There is only one Blackbird and it is use is generally restricted to Scott Summer's/Cyclop's team and designated pilots or senior members unless authorization is granted. It's usage is intended for missions only.

Red Team resources
The Red Team's Manhattan headquarters includes advanced computers and secure networking, conference and presentation rooms with secure blackout mode, housing and medical facilities, an extensive support staff, a landing pad for fliers and air vehicles, and a private motor pool that includes vehicles ranging from motorcycles to trucks. Members of all X-teams (rank 4+) have full clearance for the facility, but X-men without public identities are expected not to drive the vehicles for legal reasons. X-allies (rank 3 or lower) are 'on the guest list,' and may access the common areas freely, or the secure areas with an escort.

Membership in the Red Team constitutes legal full-time employment. Red Team members receive:

Their choice of a free suite apartment in the Da Costa Building or a housing stipend
A steady salary plus a commission on any contract work they complete
A generous benefits package
Legal and accounting services provided by DCI
