The Big Apricot

The second largest city of the US did not start that way, it started as any other small colony but boomed outward like no other.

In 1634 a Dutch fur trader named Paul De Vries made trade to the local natives for the land just outside of Fort Hobb and named it De Vries Village. The Village eventually began to grow, its great placement as well as the trade maintained with the natives and beyond it boomed into a small city, and in 1675 was sold to England and renamed New Troy. This exchange lead the peaceful coexistence between natives and colonists into three battles, the final forcing the native tribes off the land they had held.

The city rapidly began to grow under English rule and the citizens began to branch out, colonizing the areas around New Troy that became known as Park Ridge, Bakerline, St. Martin's Island, Hell's Gate, and Queensland Park - The central area now gaining the name of Metropolis.

With this towns prosperity and growth came the use of its manpower for the Continental Army and General George Washington. During the battle of Devils Winter Seige the denizens of New Troy were forced to cover within Fort Hobb. Once the Seige was over and the battle won by Dan Hunter and Tomahawk's Rangers the people discarded the old name and renamed Fort Hobb to Forth Hunter.

Now that the town finally gained its freedom from England the slow growth found a quicker momentum. In 1783 the first branch of Metropolis' preeminence in commerce and banking was founded by P. Randall Jeffries - The First Metropolitan Bank. With the aid of president Thomas Jefferson following the expeditions of Lewis and Clark, articles were written and sent out to the citizens of New Troy, helping found not only the Daily Planet, but that of its popularity that made it the top news coverage in the world, also making Metropolis the center for media.

1839. ”With virtuous endeavor, the New Troy of tomorrow will rival any metropolis of antiquity.” These words were stated by M.W. Nicholson with the opening of New Troy College, and brought on the finalization of those who still called the land New Troy, adopted the name of Metropolis as well.

By 1870 Metropolis was becoming so densely populated many more old buildings were razed for the erection of taller and more efficient ones, and though progress was occurring rapidly around the people, one acre was set aside of land that will remain 'as is', and it was officially named Centennial Park.

New Troy College was quickly renowned for the architectural studies that went on there, the city blossoming around it and growing taller as well as reaching farther, sorting some of the tallest buildings by the end of the 19th century. Not only was the architectural advancement one that marked this budding Metropolis but the arrival of Waldo Glenmorgan to teach the science division birthed and opened up a whole other commerce avenue for "his beloved Metropolis", those words spoken alone creating a movement that officially had the reformation of Hunter City and it's neighbors taking on the name of Metropolis in 1905 - the University as well becoming the University of Metropolis.

With progress and growth comes crime, and it was blossoming in the streets of Metropolis, though with the construction of Stryker's Island Penitentiary, the concept alone struck enough fear to end the problem before it became a spreading growth.

Metropolis' growing populous as well as popularity not only attracted presidents, philanthropists, scientists, and kings from our world, in the late 1800's to early 1900's it also became the site of curiosity for creatures from other planets, planes, or dimensions - the first sighting one in Hell's Gate, leading to several throughout and whispers of /new/ residents in the subway tunnels.

As Metropolis expanded even the attention shifted ad waned, attention shifting from the Hob's Bay area to that of the Northern point of New Troy, making 1910 the beginning of the darker days - Suicide Days. The darkening of the neighborhood as well as the rising prices and low incomes of the people in the area during the great Depression caused many suicides from this Hob's Bay area specifically, giving it the name that unfortunately stuck. Suicide Slums.

With the end of World War 2 the city began its own boom, arts and education taking a lead but never far ahead of science and innovation. New transportation has formed to make it easier for those in Hob's Bay to more easily commute to work outside of their district, and the first superhero to call Metropolis his home came and bolstered the busy city's atmosphere even more. Captain Comet even broke ground, gathering the first shovel full of dirt for the Metropolis Institute of Technology in 1952.

After the JFK assassination and the Vietnam War Metropolis took to more changes. Students began protests - political and livelihood wise, the baby boom began, and the media picked up and took major wing for the city. The radio station passed the 200 mark, and WGBS, WGMC, WJAB, and WMET formed, as well as Metropolis Daily News and the Metro Eagle, giving the Daily Planet its first run of inner-competition.

With the increase real estate is seeing a higher climb in value, creating beach front real estate and properties, parks expanding, and amusement parks rising to allow for entertainment for the visitors in hopes to keep them.

But as always, with the good comes the bad, crime rose once more, and not just your everyday - that of a battle that ended with the furthering of the law enforcement in Metropolis once again, creating the Special Crimes Unit where individuals are hired on a basis to deal specifically with the rise in 'metas' and 'supers'.

Metropolis saw only one more fall in expansion after this due to the apprehension of people to come to a city bustling with super human activity - but as Metropolis is renown for, acceptance set in, as well as assurance that the City responded accordingly in order to protect its people.

Not only is Metropolis a hub for expansion and advancement in the human side of things, but it is also the same for those of meta and super capabilities - keeping each carefully hand in hand for the growth and good of its economy and people.
